I joined this tour because my husband wanted to see the sunset and the starry sky. First, we picked up participants from the hotel one by one. On this day, there were 13 participants in total, filling one bus (4 individuals, 4 couples, and 1 solo traveler). Since the Big Island of Hawaii is large, it took some time for pickups, but we stopped by a small shop along the way to pass the time (about 20 minutes). The guide provided very thorough explanations and shared various information about the Big Island.

Since the elevation is higher than Mount Fuji, we had an early dinner (around 4 PM) to acclimatize our bodies and took a restroom break. I was worried about altitude sickness, but the guide kept reminding us to drink water every 10 minutes, take deep breaths, and absolutely not to sleep!!! I only felt a slight headache, so I was okay. When we got off partway up the mountain, it was my first experience feeling the thin air and physical strain.

By the time we reached the summit, my body had acclimatized. Unfortunately, there were many clouds that day, and it rained on and off, but I was deeply moved and felt a sense of mystery as we barely managed to see the sunset. A little below the summit, we began our star observation! Due to the clouds, the guide had us wait in the car for a while until the clouds cleared. I believe the guides were considerate to ensure we could see the stars in the best possible conditions.

The moment we got out of the car, it felt like the stars were falling right above us!!!! After a while, the clouds covered the sky again, so we moved to another spot to observe the stars. There was some wind, and even when the clouds obscured our view, if we waited a bit, we saw even more stars than before!!!! We could even see the Milky Way clearly!!! Looking sideways, there were stars, and it made me realize that the Earth is round.

Additionally, the guide explained the constellations with a super laser beam, making it feel like an impromptu lecture, which was fun!

What was great about this tour was that it included warm clothing, which is not offered by other tours. Even though we waited outside for a long time without seeing stars, thanks to the warm clothing, I didn’t feel cold at all and enjoyed snacks and drinks. I heard that other tours leave if the stars aren’t visible (in fact, there were no other tour groups around).

Moreover, the guide took photos with a high-quality camera that he purchased out of his own pocket, and we could download them for free! Normally, they would charge for this, but he said, “Memories over records,” and provided this as a service. I deducted one star because it was cloudy and not all stars were visible, which was disappointing.

If you come to the Big Island, I wholeheartedly recommend Masashi Nature School!!! Thank you for everything!!!

主人が、夕日と星空を見たいと言っていたのでこのツアーに参加しました。
まず、順々にホテルから参加者をピックアップしていきます。
この日は、１台のバス満員で１３人参加でした。
（４人参加、カップル参加４組、１人参加）
ハワイ島は広いので、ピックアップに時間かかりますが、途中ちょっとしたお店に寄り、時間を潰したりしました。（約20分）
ガイドさんがとても丁寧に説明して下さり、ハワイ島についての情報など色々教えて頂きました。
富士山よりも標高が高いので、身体を慣れさすために、途中で早めの（16時ぐらい）夕食（お弁当）を取り、トイレに行ったりしました。
高山病を心配しましたが、ガイドさんが登ってる間、水を１０分おきにとること、深呼吸をしっかりすること、絶対に寝ない事！！！ずーっとおっしゃってくれていたので、じゃっかん頭痛を感じたぐらいで、大丈夫でした。山頂の途中で降りた時は、身体がしんどく空気が薄いと感じた初めての体験でした。

山頂に着くと、身体も慣れてきてきました。この日は、あいにく雲が多く雨が降ったり止んだりでしたが、夕日はかろうじて見れて大変感動し、神秘的でした。
山頂から少し下ったところで、いざ★の観察！雲が多く、ガイドさんが雲が履けるまでしばらく車の中で待機していました。
おそらく感動してもらう為に、一番いい状態で見てもらう為にガイドさん達が配慮してくれたのだと思います。
車からでた瞬間、頭上に★が降ってくるかのようでした！！！！
しばらくすると、雲で覆われてしまい、場所を移動しそこで★を観察。風もあったので、
雲がかかって見えなくなっても、しばらく待っているとさっきよりも★が沢山★★★！！！！
なんと天の川もくっきりみえました！！！
真横にみても★があり、地球は丸いんだなーと感じさせられました。
また、ガイドさんが、超レイザービームで星座の説明をして頂き、即席講座みたいな感じで楽しかったです♪

このツアーで良かったのは、他のツアーにはない、防寒具が付いていること。
★が見えなくてかなり外で待っていましたが、防寒具のお陰で、全然寒くなく飲み物お菓子など頂きました。他のツアーだと星がみえないと帰ってしまうそうです。
（実際、他のツアーの方はいませんでした）
また何より、ガイドさんが自腹で購入した超高画質カメラで、写真を撮って頂き、無料でダウンロードできるところ！本来お金を取られるとこですが、”記憶より記録”と言って、サービスだそうです。
★を一個減らしたのは、曇りで全部★というわけではなかったので、残念な気持ちで減らしました。
ハワイ島にきたら、是非、マサシネイチャースクール、心からお勧めします！！！！！

My only critique is that I wish we'd had more time to talk with the guides-- maybe even after we got back to the stables. It was also a good value for the money, but I'd have paid more for some extra time with them.

At the hotel front for the pickup, there was a high-energy guide who greeted us with "Aloha!" The sunset from the summit of Mauna Kea and the starry sky were amazing, but we were constantly laughing at the guide's delightful stories. They adjusted our cameras so we could capture the starry sky and even took photos with us. The delicious dinner, miso soup, and warm jackets were truly thoughtful touches. Solo trip to the Big Island. 4 nights in Hilo, 4 nights in Kona. On the day before the last day of the trip, I joined a stargazing tour at Mauna Kea! There was a warning about a demonstration before departure, and I was informed that we might not be able to climb... but I believed in miracles and decided not to cancel. The demonstration was lifted five days after arriving on the Big Island, but there was an unusual snowfall the night before in July, and the gate was closed... However, the snow melted along the way, and we were able to reach the summit! The sunset from the top of Mauna Kea, with snow still remaining, was incredibly magical, and I didn't feel much cold due to the lack of wind, which was very moving. Our guide, Yo, was young but knowledgeable about many things, and he provided excellent service by sharing stories about the Big Island and Mauna Kea from start to finish, as well as taking lots of photos. During the stargazing guide, he talked about the stars using a laser pointer. I believe this is something you can only experience here. It was unfortunate that the Onizuka Visitor Center was closed, so I give it 4 stars, but when I come back to the Big Island, I would like to participate in a sunrise tour next time. Thank you!

ハワイ島1人旅。ヒロ４泊、コナ４泊。旅の最終日前日、マウナケアの星空観測ツアーに！出発前デモがあり、登れないかも…と連絡がありましたが、奇跡を信じキャンセルせず挑みました。デモはハワイ島到着５日前に解除したと事のでしたが、７月には滅多にない雪が前夜降りゲートが閉まっている…と。が、途中雪も溶け登頂出来ることに！マウナケア登頂で見る夕日は雪が残る中とても幻想的で風もなく寒さもさほど感じられずとても感動しました。ガイトのヨウ君は若いながら色々な事を知っており、最初っから最後までハワイ島の事、マウナケアの事の話や、写真を沢山撮ってくれたり、とてもよいサービスをしてくださいました。特に星空のガイドではレーザーポインターで星についてお話してくれました。これは、絶対にココでないと味わえない事だと思います。オニヅカビジターセンターは閉まっていたのが残念で★４ですが、またハワイ島に来る時は今度はサンライズのツアーに参加したいと思います。ありがとうございました！

They lent me cold weather gear like down jackets, overpants, hats, and gloves, which kept me very warm. I had a light down jacket myself, but it wasn't necessary. Since I was mostly in the car and didn't walk much, it was better to minimize my luggage. I was almost hands-free, and that was great.

This was my first time at Sunset. It seemed better than Sunrise. I was able to prepare various things while it was still bright, which gave me a sense of ease, and it wasn't too cold. I enjoyed the sunset slowly, both before and after the sun went down. Now, for the exciting starry sky. I signed up aiming for a new moon day, and even though it was just before the meteor shower, I was able to see shooting stars. The guides, Kouno and You, explained the stars very clearly. I can't remember difficult explanations anyway, but I did remember Sagittarius, Scorpius, Libra, Cygnus, and the Summer Triangle! Thank you! We will be back!

We participated as a group of five: three adults and two children (ages 10 and 13). There were also four American family members, making a total of nine people in the group. The young woman who checked us in at the meeting point drove a 4WD to the stable at the bottom of the valley, and she led us on horseback. A young man followed behind us. My horse was very well-behaved and hardly needed any reins, but my sister's and niece's horses tended to stray from the line to eat grass or started running a bit, which required some attention in the beginning. However, the young man behind us quickly helped, so there was no need to worry. For a full two hours, we were healed by the vibrant green of the valley and the sound of hooves, and everyone was very satisfied with the activity.

I couldn't catch all the English explanations, but it was fine because they were accompanied by gestures. The sunset and starry sky at Mauna Kea were truly moving.

After acclimatizing my body by having an early dinner at the visitor center to prevent altitude sickness, I headed to the summit of Mauna Kea.

After enjoying the sunset at the summit, we observed the starry sky around 4,000 meters. Through the telescope, the rings of Saturn were clearly visible, and the natural planetarium experience was fun, thanks to our guide's playful personality.

During the tour, the guide took photos for us, and the service to download them from the website was great. I was also delighted with the beautiful photos taken with the starry sky.

This tour had a full-size van with 15 people. We were seated at the very back, so we didn't benefit much from the air conditioning during the low-altitude drive.

We had dinner at the Onizuka Center (a bento box and miso soup), then changed into warm clothing and set off for the summit. The road was bumpy along the way, but we safely arrived at the top. (My wife experienced mild altitude sickness and received oxygen.)

At the summit, there are 13 observatories, including the Subaru Telescope. We enjoyed the sunset sinking into the sea of clouds and did some stargazing a little further down.

The sky was filled with stars and the Milky Way, and to the southwest, the red lava from Kilauea illuminated the clouds below. It was an incredibly moving experience.

今回のツアーはフルサイズのバンに満員の１５名でした。私たちは一番後ろの席で低地走行時はなかなかエアコンの恩恵に与れませんでした。

They made sure we had proper warm clothing to avoid the cold, and the guides were very attentive to prevent altitude sickness. The meals included in the tour were also substantial, allowing us to enjoy the wonderful starry skies and the sunset from the summit without any worries. Additionally, it wasn't just about being taken to the locations; the detailed explanations were very interesting and easy to understand. I would love to request a guide again when I visit the Big Island.

Both me and my friend are big fans of stargazing. Being from Europe, we're used to completely different night sky and it war really refreshing to see the other-side-of-the-world's sky as well. Also, because Mauna Kea Summit has one of the clearest sky in the world, it took the stargazing to whole another level. It was really amazing experience and worth every penny. Also the guides knew like.. everything about the stars, so it was pretty educational too. Oh and by the way - the sunset seen from above the clouds at the summit? Magnificent!

This was undoubtedly the best tour I would recommend on my first visit to the Big Island of Hawaii. The sunset and stargazing did not disappoint, although it was a bit unfortunate that the new moon made it too bright. However, the explanations of the constellations were clear and impressive. The UCC Coffee Farm, which we visited to pass the time, was also great.

On the second day after arriving on the Big Island, I went to Mauna Kea. Leaving the hotel, I was overwhelmed by the majestic nature and terrain of the Big Island as I traveled along Daniel K. Inouye Highway and arrived at the Onizuka Visitor Center. While having dinner, I observed plants like the silversword and changed into warm clothing before reaching the summit. 星空撮影はフィルム一眼レフカメラで挑戦、星空用に設定したバルブ撮影（10分から20分間）では時間が星空には適度な時間でしたが、周りの光が入りうまく取れませんでした。また来年での挑戦したいと思ってます。このツアー会社はガイドさんが³参加者を撮ってくれた写真をインターネットにからダウンロードさせてくれます、このサービスは非常に嬉しかった。ふつうのデジカメでは星空は取れないので良い記念になりました。

The saying "Seeing is believing" really holds true; participating in the tour allowed me to experience the atmosphere that can't be conveyed through reviews. The cool temperatures and thin air near the summit, which are hard to imagine in the coastal town of Kailua, became real for me only after climbing to 4,000 meters! The sky above the sea of clouds was clearer and bluer than I had imagined, and I could feel the sunlight hitting my skin directly, making it warm. Of course, one of the main events, the sunset viewing, was as beautiful as rumored. The sky afterward looked like a large canvas, with stunning gradients of red, orange, yellow, purple, blue, and white that captivated everyone watching. The other main event, stargazing, felt like watching a planetarium, thanks to our guide's fun and easy-to-understand explanations of constellations and stars. Additionally, we were able to observe Saturn and the moon through a telescope, and the guidance on astrophotography was greatly appreciated. Along the way, we also had the chance to observe rare alpine plants that we wouldn't normally see, and the explanations about the climate and terrain made the tour even more enriching. Overall, there were many moments to fully engage our senses, and my family and I were extremely satisfied. Next time, I definitely want to join the sunrise tour!

Stargazing with my family. Mats was just the best!! He was so energetic and fun, like the Jungle Cruise guy from Disney. Since we gradually drove up, I didn't have to worry about oxygen shortage, and everything went smoothly. The bento with charcoal-grilled chicken was delicious. I was moved by Subaru, amazed by the green flash, and above all, I was captivated by the starry sky!! Next time, I want to join for the dawn!

Since it was close to a full moon, I felt there weren't many stars, and I thought the starry sky at my parents' house was more beautiful. The sunset was very pretty. The guide's boring jokes were a bit much, and I felt tired trying to keep up with them.

The view from the summit of Mauna Kea was truly breathtaking. Although the night sky observation wasn't as spectacular due to the full moon, I was able to see constellations that can't be seen in Japan. Saturn and Jupiter were also beautifully visible through the telescope.

When we were riding the horses, a foreign child started crying, which delayed our departure, so the riding time was shorter compared to last time, and the course was also shorter, which was disappointing. I recommended it to my son and his wife, and they were satisfied and enjoyed it. It's one of the activities I want to participate in again next time.
