Big Island
I participated on April 11th. Initially, I had signed up for the 10th, but upon checking, I found out it was the day after the full moon. When I contacted the tour company, they informed me that the stars would be more beautiful on the 11th, so they changed my reservation.
Fortunately, on the 10th, there was snow, and the roads were closed, resulting in the tour being canceled. When we gathered on the 11th, we were still told that the roads were closed and we might not be able to reach the summit, but we received word that they had reopened partway, and the weather was improving. The summit was completely white from the previous day's snow, and there were people snowboarding.
During the sunset, the staff mentioned that it had been a long time since they had seen such a beautiful view, and it truly was stunning and moving. It was extremely cold, though... After the sunset, we had stargazing. We saw shooting stars, the Milky Way, and many stars I had never seen before. They provided detailed explanations about the stars, making it a fulfilling tour.
I had seen Mauna Kea on TV several times and always wanted to go. Depending on the weather, the sunset and stargazing might not be visible, but when I went, it was said to be as beautiful as it could get, so I was really glad to have fulfilled my wish.

流れ星、天の川、今まで見たことない星をたくさん見ました。星の説明も丁寧にしてくれて、ボリューム満点のツアーでした。
何度かテレビで見ていて、いつか行きたいと思ってたマウナケア。天候によってはサンセットや星空がキレイに見れないようですが、私が行った時は、これ以上キレイには見えないと言われたほどで、ほんと念願かなってヨカッタです。

The sights we saw were great for a first timer to the island, but if I were to come back, I would stay on the west coast and drive over to see the volcano.
I had considerable hesitation because it was an expensive tour and my first experience on a helicopter, but I decided to book it thinking I might never have the chance to come again. However, once I was on board, the views were amazing, including the inside of the Kilauea volcano crater and the sight of lava flowing into the sea, which I couldn't have seen from a helicopter otherwise. I didn't feel the turbulence at all; it was much more comfortable than riding in a tour bus on the roads. The pilot's explanations were all in English, and honestly, I didn't understand much, but the scenery didn't need any words. I took a taxi from the Royal Kona Resort, and it cost about $100 one way, including the tip, so if the tour is your main purpose, it would be better to stay in the South Kohala area.

☆私たちが泊まったホテルからはとても遠く、送迎もないためため、レンタカーを使用しない方はシェラトンに泊まれば便利かなと思います
☆乗船し、10分ぐらいでポイントに到着、それほどユレは気になりません
☆棒状の浮に捕まり、棒状の浮を足や腰に当てるので泳ぎが苦手の方も大丈夫だと思います
★ウエットスーツは着るものの水温が低かったため、次第に手の感覚がなくなり、寒くて寒くて最後の方は修行のような気分に

The Snorkel Cruise was one of our top two activities. We very much enjoyed the cruise out to the Black Sand Beach. We saw some whales along the route. We enjoyed the snorkeling even more. This was our first ocean snorkeling cruise experience. We had snorkeled a little bit over the years but no where with as much color and marine life. Highly recommended whether you have snorkeled or not. The staff is very helpful and seem to enjoy their job. (if you can call that a job). Makes it a great experience. Very convenient launch from the Waikoloa Marriot. Very nice for us because that is where we stayed. Others were shuttled there and I am sure that was no problem either. Nice activity. Would do again.
Previously, when I took a helicopter tour on Kauai, the American guests riding with me seemed to be having a great time chatting with the pilot. We were listening to a Japanese tape during our helicopter tour... even though it was the same price!! So this time, I chose Blue Hawaiian hoping for a Japanese pilot.
It was an experience beyond my imagination. Since I had been staying for a few days, it felt like we were looking down from above at the places we had traveled by car, and the Big Island was incredibly BIG. The vast black land, lava, lush green valleys, waterfalls, and pastures, and finally the coastline... I thought I might get bored after two hours, but the pace was so fast that it was really fun.
The Japanese pilot, Toshi, was the best!!

The tour itself was cool but didn´t hold its promisses/expectations. The abstract about the tour on the internet contained information about the summer tour. So, everybody expected something else. In the end, we didn´t do much on this tour but enjoying ourself, which would have been great if I would have known about it earlier.

The weather was uncertain, but once you enter (they say no refunds even if it rains), seating is free, although the central seats are reserved and filled (there were reservation signs until the end, but many remained unoccupied). Upon entry, everyone could pour drinks from the bottles at the counter and enjoy unlimited drinks (there were no sample cocktails like in the photos). Before the meal, we all gathered to watch the ceremonial Kalua pig (steamed roast pork). The meal started buffet-style at each table, and the food was smoothly served. There was no explanation of the dishes, but they had a local flavor and were delicious.
The show began with the lighting of the torches, featuring Hawaiian and Tahitian dances, and there were plenty of opportunities for guest participation. The host, who had a different sense of engagement than what you would find in Japan, did a great job of energizing the show. Even though I didn't understand the English, it was an entertaining performance.

天候が不安でしたが入場（入場すると雨でも返金しないそうです）席は自由ですが中央席は予約席で埋まっています（最後まで予約札が有るが多くは埋まらなかった）客はほとんど外人ですが違和感が有りません、入場すると各自飲み物をカウンターの酒ビン、ボール内より注いで飲み放題（写真のようなサンプルカクテルは無い）食事前のセレモニーカルーアピック(豚の蒸し焼き）を皆で輪になり見学、食事をビユッフェスタイルで席ごとに開始、料理はスムースに取れた料理内容の説明書は無く内容的にはローカル色がありおいしかった、
たいまつ点火でショーの開始、ダンスはハワイアン、タヒチアンなど客の参加ショーもふんだんに取り入れ特に進行役（日本人には無い感覚）がショーの盛り上げがうまく英語は分からないが面白いショーでした。

Best meal we had on the island, & the entertainment was really well done. This was our first trip to the Big Island for our 20th anniversary, so we were trying to pack in a wide variety of activities. A Luau was almost a must on the list of things to do. Body Glove Whale Watching was Okay. The staff was nice, The snacks and beverages were nice. The boat was nice. My trip, though I booked it 3 months earlier, when I arrived at my hotel, it was changed. Sure, they comped the bar to have me switch, but the whales we did see were too far off to make the trip worth-while.
About 15 minutes by boat, two staff members held lights and illuminated from below, attracting a manta ray that approached us. Before the tour, we were warned not to touch the manta rays, but even though I didn't reach out, the manta came close and spun around, brushing against my body. Eventually, four manta rays gathered, and it was truly moving. I felt like I was able to see them up close more than when diving.
At first, I was watching from the surface, but when I got the signal that it was okay to dive, I was able to see them from below as well. Other travelers from Spain and Australia participated, and everyone was shouting "Wow! Wow!" continuously. I would love to visit the Big Island again just to participate in this tour.
船で15分ほどの所でまずスタッフが二人ライトを持って潜り下から上へライトで照らすとマンタが1匹寄って来ました.ツア−前に絶対マンタには触らないことと注意を受けましたが自分では触らないのにマンタの方から接近して来て体すれすれで回転するので体が触れるのです.
そのうち4匹集まって来て感動です.ダイビングをするよりも近くでマンタを見れたと思います.
最初は水面から見ていたのですが、潜ってもいいと合図があったので潜って下からも見上げる形でも見る事ができました.私以外にスペイン、オ−ストラリアからの旅行者が参加していました.全員ウォ−！ウォ−！の連続でした.

夫婦で１１９歳・２００９年１月１９日~２６日の旅でした。今回で４回目のハワイでしたが、ハワイ島は初めてでした。私はコタキナバルへ行きたかったのですが、今回は全面的に家内の希望でハワイ島経由オワフ島になり、それもこのマウナケアの星空観測とホノルル沖のホエールウォッチングへの参加が家内の希望でした。私は星空などはあまり興味もありませんでしたが今回は全面的に家内の計画に乗りました。常夏気候の平地から４２００ｍのマイナス気温のマウナケア山頂へ一気に行く訳ですから、冬の北海道旅行の様な支度が必要でした。しかし山頂でのサンセットを見て、その後 真っ暗になってからの星空、本当にすごかった！誰かが天空に無数の針穴を開けてその外からライトを当ててくれている様な感じがします。天の川だって生まれて初めてハッキリ見ました。大型天体望遠鏡を使ってのピンポイント観測とスタッフの分かり易い説明、一時の天体博士にもなりました。地球も宇宙の一員で有ることを実感しますよ。防寒着が用意されていますが、自分での準備も少しは必要ですので、今までのハワイ行きより荷物が増えましたが、十分おつりが来ましたね。今度は６月頃行きますよ。今と違う夏の星空に浸るために。
