I was worried that the helicopter might be canceled due to an unexpected eruption until the day of the flight. I'm glad we were able to fly safely. The view from the powerful helicopter and the sight of the eruption were breathtaking. However, I wished I could have seen the volcano up close a bit more. Well, I suppose safety reasons prevent that.

Last year, I participated in a dolphin tour with a Japanese guide, so when I compare the two experiences, I felt a sense of neglect here. Since it was an English tour, I couldn't catch much anyway, and the explanations were brief, plus there was no guide who entered the water with us. However, as soon as we got into the water, there were a lot of dolphins. They came really close, and I could see even the little scratches on their backs clearly. After that, while moving to another snorkeling spot, they looked for whales, and we were actually able to see one. The snorkeling was in a very clear area, and on the way back, they shared stories about the Big Island of Hawaii. I think it would have been even better if I could speak English, but I had a great experience.

This is my second time (the first time I applied directly).
It's difficult to get there on your own, but we go all the way down to Waipi'o Valley.
The horses are well-trained, and you can enjoy horseback riding with a simple lecture.
(They walk on their own without you having to do anything. Haha.)
Since they are living creatures, they stop along the way to eat grass as they please,
and they also take bathroom breaks while walking (which is another memory).
We even crossed a river. It was swollen from the rain a few hours earlier, but the horses moved forward without hesitation.
They also take commemorative photos for you.

Please enjoy the lush green trees, flowers, and horses of Waipi'o.
If you visit the Big Island, I highly recommend it!

We participated as a family of four. Our family was the only group on the tour, and we had one female guide with us. After preparing the saddles, we received instructions on how to ride and handle the horses. Everything was in English, but as long as you closely follow the guide's movements, you'll be fine! The handling instructions were just four basic commands: "go," "stop," "right," and "left," so it wasn't difficult.

And finally, we set off! Along the way, we even challenged ourselves to a canter while climbing up the vast ranch towards the mountains, and when we looked back, the stunning view of the Kohala Coast came into sight. It was a wonderful view, and I'm sure you can enjoy a refreshing feeling.

All the horses are well-trained and safe, but each horse has its own personality. The horse I rode seemed to dislike mud and chose to walk on dry ground, even if it meant staying away from the other horses. In contrast, the horse my wife rode seemed to love water and splashed right into the puddles. While we experienced a bit of the difficulty in controlling the horses, it was a fun time. I highly recommend that everyone try this experience!

[Additional Note]
The wind from the mountains felt cold, so even if it's sunny, I think it's better to borrow a jacket. Also, the horses will walk through puddles and muddy areas, so your shoes might get wet or dirty, so it's advisable to borrow boots as well. Both are available for free.

そしていよいよ出発です。途中、駆け足にも挑戦しながら広大な牧場を山の方に向かってどんどん登っていき、振り返るとコハラコーストの絶景が目に飛び込んできました。素晴らしい眺めです。爽快な気分が味わえるはずです。
どの馬もよく調教されていて危なくはありませんが、各々の馬に個性があります。私が乗った馬は「ぬかるみ」が嫌いらしく、他の馬から離れてでも乾いたところを選んで歩きました。と思えば妻が乗った馬は水に入るのが好きなようで水たまりにジャブジャブと入ります。思い通りに動かす難しさを少々味わいながらも楽しい時間でした。皆さんもぜひ体験してください！

【追記】
山からの風は冷たく感じましたので晴れていてもジャケットは借りたほうがいいと思います。また、水たまりやぬかるんだところを馬が進みます。靴が濡れたり汚れたりすることもあるかもしれませんのでブーツも借りたほうがいいと思います。いずれも無料でお借りできます。

I wanted to see the lava that flowed from the recent eruptions up close.
I couldn't get close enough with the rental car.

It was cold up there, so I recommend bringing a raincoat.

Since my accommodation was in Kailua-Kona, I had to make my way to the meeting point on foot. However, the public parking was difficult to find, which made me quite anxious, so it's necessary to check in advance. The tour exceeded my expectations as I was able to see whales up close, which was fantastic. However, the boat does rock quite a bit, so I think those who are prone to seasickness should prepare accordingly.

My husband and I participated together. Although we didn't encounter the bridging we were expecting (it seems the encounter rate is not very high), we did see a mother and calf whale! (I wonder if they are more commonly seen around Maui??)

The transportation was smooth, and we were able to experience an activity early in the morning, which allowed us to make the most of the rest of the day. I think it was a great schedule. Everyone on board was calling out, "Which direction are they?" as we spotted the whales, enjoying the spouts and tail slaps. The tour captain explained the whales' ecology (in English) and answered various questions from the passengers, which was very educational. I would love to participate again someday and hopefully see the bridging!

It was not stated were We would go to for the Manta Ray night time snorkle. We assumed it would be in front of the SheratonKona and were disappointed it was at the secondary location. We saw one manta Ray for about three seconds and that was it. I would highly recommend going to one that is in front of the SheratonKona because we got back to our hotel and we could see them from the restaurant there!

This was our first trip to Hawaii with my husband and his parents. We made a reservation here to experience the Hawaiian atmosphere on our first day. It's a buffet style, and it gets a bit crowded at first, but it's manageable after a short wait. The ahi poke was delicious. There are two drink stations: one at the back of the buffet line and another to the right of the stage. If you go further back from the drink counter on the right side of the stage around sunset, you can see a wonderful sunset. (There are also ashtrays in that area.) Overall, I thought it was a bit pricey, so I gave it three stars. I felt it would cost around 10,000 yen based on my experience in Japan.

Absolutely worth the price, good for all ages!

Obviously the tour does not summon the whales at their leisure, but we saw honestly 10+ whales (maybe some of the same ones) over a period of an hour and a half and it was incredible. I have so many photos that I can’t wait to post on social. Regardless of actually seeing the whales, the tour was not only educational but it was a smooth ride, very fun and friendly and we even used a hydro microphone that picked up the whales talking to eachother around us. It was nothing I’ve ever heard before, they are so loud!! I would recommend the early trip for any older folks (we took my grandma who is 78) and/or any easily motion sick people. Overall completely worth the price and waking up “early” on vacation.

Since it was a last-minute booking, I couldn't reconfirm until the day before, but I was able to participate without any issues. It takes about 40-50 minutes to get from Keauhou to Kealakekua Bay. During that time, they distribute fins and masks. Many people were snorkeling while wearing floaties or floats (available for rent). Since I had a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old with me, we were able to borrow a large boogie board (with a window to see underwater). It was a bit chilly because the sun was behind the clouds, so we got back on the boat partway through, but we enjoyed watching foreign guests having fun on the slide until the end. On the way there, pretzels and juice were served in the galley on the first floor, and on the way back, fruit was added. The crew also came up to the second floor to distribute snacks. Even though our English wasn't great, the crew made an effort to communicate with us.

This was THE COOLEST snorkel excursion. First they picked us up from our hotel, RAD. They have a marine biologist on board that taught us a lot about the creatures we'd be seeing and the ecosystem which was fascinating. The area they took us to was a gorgeous reef and we saw some amazing fish and sea creatures. The marine biologist was even diving for starfish that he showed everyone and let us pet while we were in the water. We got a good hour and a half of snorkeling and then it was time for a tasty sandwich bar lunch. On the way back was, yes what you've all been waiting for, an OPEN BAR. Those were the best drinks I got on the island. It was awesome, big shout out to the amazing crew.

While watching a mysterious safety video during check-in, my husband and I, along with our children, were genuinely worried that we might have signed up for a crazy tour. However, when the crew realized we were Japanese, they used simple Japanese phrases (like "stand," "sit," "hold on here," etc.), which made it enjoyable for us to participate.

When taking off, we sat on the deck and let ourselves go. Upon returning, we went with the flow and stood up on the deck at the right moment. The world over 100 meters above the sea was truly serene, and we were just amazed by the magnificent nature of Hawaii Island and the vast ocean.

When returning, it's fine if you're not in a swimsuit as long as you don't splash down, but if you're someone who might, please come in a swimsuit.

海上１００メートル以上の世界は，本当に静寂で，ハワイ島の大自然と雄大な海原に，ただただ感動しました。

As mentioned in the experience, when I went to the reception after 5 o'clock, there was a huge line. After the reception, there was the purchase of leis and photo taking, which seemed to take some time. The seating was full. Since the food was served from the front seats, I was nervous that there might not be any food left by the time it got to the back, but they kept replenishing it, so I was able to eat plenty. The dish with pork steamed in leaves and the dessert were delicious. The view of the harbor and Kona at sunset was amazing and beautiful!! The luau was packed with Kahiko, hula, Tahitian, and fire performances. However, my child got tired and fell asleep halfway through, but they were satisfied with the food. It was a lot of fun.

On December 30, we participated as a family of four. Two of us are children aged 9 and 11.
It was almost our first time riding horses, but the horses were well-trained, so we had no worries.
We took a walk in the valley floor of Waipi'o Valley, swaying on the backs of the horses. It was a place filled with rich water and greenery, exuding tranquility.

For your reference:
- We traveled to and from the valley floor by 4WD from the meeting point. This took quite a bit of time. The approximate schedule was: gather at 1:30 PM, move to the valley floor, start horseback riding at 2:15 PM, finish riding at 3:45 PM, and disperse at the meeting point at 4:15 PM.
- We were the only Japanese participants; everyone else was from the mainland United States.
- We planned to rent a car to get to the meeting point, but when we tried to make a reservation at the hotel after arriving on the Big Island, we were told there were no rental cars available until January 3.
We had no choice but to use a round-trip taxi, which cost over $400 from Kailua-Kona. We should have reserved a rental car from Japan.

12月30日に家族4人で参加しました。うち二人は9才、11才の子どもです。

・私たちはレンタカーを借りて集合場所まで行くつもりでしたが、ハワイ島へ着いてからホテルで予約しようとしたら、1月3日までハワイ島ではレンタカーが1台もないと言われました。
仕方なく往復タクシーを使い、カイルア・コナから400ドル強かかりました。
レンタカーは日本から予約して行くべきでした。

After paddling for about 30 minutes by sea kayak to the destination's shallow area, we entered the sea directly from the kayak to go snorkeling. The underwater visibility is very clear, and there are a decent variety and quantity of fish, so those who want to enjoy both kayaking and snorkeling should be satisfied. カヤックに乗る前にブリーフィングがありカヤックの漕ぎ方について説明があります。説明は全て英語ですが、ボートを漕いだことがある方なら基本的な説明は英語でも理解できると思います。また、カヤックの動作に必要なごくごく簡単な日本語の単語(左右、止まるなど)で説明することができるガイドが1人いました。
今回参加した全員がカヤックの経験者だったため、カヤックを漕ぐペースはかなり早めでしたが、ガイドが参加者のスキルやカヤックに乗ったことがある回数によってペースを合わせると思います。特に欧米の方は体力があるので、体力に自信がない方は、ブリーフィングの際にその旨を伝える事をお勧めします。ブリーフィングでカヤックに乗る際、ライフジャケットが必要か聞かれます。シュノーケリングをする際もライフジャケットを利用するので、シュノーケリングでライフジャケットが必要な方はブリーフィングの際に伝えた方がよいと思います。

ホエールウォッチングクルーズ ＜12～3月／午前／軽食付き／ワイコロアまたはカワイハエ港発＞

【Before Boarding the Boat】
At the scheduled time, a small bus came to pick us up at the hotel front. We were dropped off near the sea close to Waikoloa and were told, "Come back here when you're done. After completing the electronic signature on a device that looked like a tablet, we waited for about 10 minutes until a small boat arrived, and we boarded it. We transferred from the small boat to a larger boat just before going out to sea. There were only two of us from Japan participating.

【Whale Watching Experience】
Seating on the boat was free. Since it was an English tour, I couldn't understand what was being said at all (laughs). ワイコロアから程近い海に降ろされ「終わったらここに戻ってきてね。それと船に乗る前に同意書は向こうで書いてね。」と言われ、砂浜にある海の家(?)に向かいます。タブレットのような機械で電子サインを済ませ10分ほど待つと小さな船が来たので乗りました。
沖より少し手前で小さな船から大きな船に移ります。
日本人参加者は私達2人だけでした。

【ホエールウォッチング体験】
船の席は自由です。英語ツアーなので私は何を言っているかはちんぷんかんぷんでした（笑）。
また船は揺れるので立ち上がってクジラの写真を撮る際は、皆立つのでしっかりロープや手すりにつかまってください。
遠かったですが4〜5回クジラの潮吹きを見ることができ、クジラの反り返りの低いジャンプも見ることができました。ハワイ島の大自然を感じられた瞬間で貴重な体験でした。
クルーも親切なお兄ちゃんでした。「クジラは毎日ほぼ見れるよ！イルカはたまに。ここよりもコナの方がいるよ。」とのこと。クルーのお兄ちゃんに船でクジラに大接近してる画像を見せてもらい、大迫力すぎて驚きました。自然相手なのでクジラに会えるor会えないは運ですが、こういうラッキーな日もあるんだなぁと思いました。ちなみに、私達2人は船酔いせずに済みました。

【ホエールウォッチングを終えて】
9:30頃船から降りて、また小さい船に移動し砂浜へ戻ります。行きに乗ったバスに乗り込み、無事にホテルのフロントに到着し無事にツアー終了となりました☆

ホエールウォッチングは初めての経験だったので、参加してよかったです！またクジラを待ってる間はクルージングとして楽しみましたよ。遠くの方にマウナケア等の山が見えて美しい海岸も見ることができ優雅な時間でした。
