I went with my 10-year-old child, and we had a great time without any issues. There were two cheerful female guides who explained everything while we leisurely walked through the mountains for a full hour and a half. The dog at the reception leading the way was also very cute. It rained quite a bit along the way, but that felt nice in its own way. My experienced mother mentioned that she wanted to run at times, but she seemed very satisfied overall. Speaking a little English was not a problem at all.

It felt good to be able to control the horse freely by holding the reins myself. At first, the horse seemed to mock me, but once I got used to it, it started to listen to me.

We signed up for a one-and-a-half-hour plan for beginners as a family. We drove to the ranch with a rental car. The sign is simple and easy to overlook. Since it's a one-way road, it’s difficult to make a U-turn if you miss it. In March, it was a bit chilly, and the weather was partly cloudy. When we mentioned our reservation name, they provided us with helmets, jumpers, and a waist pouch for valuables (free of charge). After a brief lesson on how to use the reins, we set off immediately under the guidance of the instructor. The highlands offered a refreshing feeling with a 360-degree view. If the weather had been good, we might have been able to see the ocean, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and obscured. The horses were calm and moved slowly while grazing along the way, so I think even beginners can participate with confidence. While Kualoa Ranch on Oahu is nice, the spacious grasslands are unique to the Big Island.

I experienced horseback riding for the first time this time. I was worried about whether I could ride well, but they provided a proper explanation beforehand, and I was able to enjoy it until the end.

I don't speak much English, but they explained things clearly, and there are important explanations in Japanese as well, so I think it's fine for those who only understand Japanese.

I was able to fully enjoy the nature of Waipi'o Valley and had the precious experience of crossing a river on horseback.

Of course, the Big Island has wonderful beaches, Kilauea, and Mauna Kea, but I truly recommend this horseback riding tour as well!

The owners were very informative, having both grown up in Waipio. The tour takes you along their property and a small portion of private property outside of public access areas. It was great to learn so much info about Waipio! The owners have the answers to all your questions and have great stories to share about their time there. In terms of scenery, the only thing I wish was that the horseback tour took you to see more than just their taro farm below and the small patch we traveled by horseback. Overall the interactions with the owners make this a great choice for your horseback tour! They are as authentic as you can get to the Waipio, Hawaiian culture!

The ride in van to the valley, then back to the top were outstanding as well as horseback ride. Guide was a great driver on the narrow treacherous roads. Horseback ride wonderful, guides informative, horses gentle. Great instructions given on how to "drive" a horse. I've never felt so comfortable on a horse before. Mine was Holoholo, a handsome palamino. He had personality and would nip ar other horses. I could identify with him. I have personality as well. Scenery beautifal. I loved the ride so much that I went back for a second ride a week later.Also saw many wild horses too.
.I would recommend this activity to anyone and everyone.

I signed up at my partner's strong request, and since it was quite expensive, I participated without much enthusiasm, but it turned out to be more enjoyable than I expected.
We started with a brief lecture before setting off. The wonderful scenery seen from the back of the horse was, of course, much higher than my usual view, which made it enjoyable.
The child of the foreign family accompanying us was around elementary school age, and they had a great time.
We splashed through the flowing river, and at one point, we had trouble with a horse that stopped to eat grass and wouldn’t move at all, but looking back, that became a fun memory.

連れ合いのたっての希望で申し込んだが、それなりに高額なので、気乗りせずに参加したが、思ったより楽しかった。
最初に簡単なレクチャーがあって出発。馬の背から見る素晴らしい風景は、当然ながら普段よりずっと視線が高いので楽しめた。
同行の外国人の親子連れの子供は小学生ぐらいだったが、十分楽しんでいた。

Since I had never ridden a horse before, both my children (a fourth grader and a third-year middle school student) and I were very anxious. However, after listening to the instructions and getting on the horse, we quickly got the hang of it and started to enjoy ourselves. There were some unexpected moments, like when the horse started eating grass or when it almost got into a fight with the horse in front of it, but those became fun memories as well. The horses for the kids were honest and serious, so they managed to ride them without any issues. The mountain scenery was beautiful, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience.

Our tour included three couples from the mainland besides my husband and me. There was also a Japanese tour with a guide fluent in Japanese at the same meeting time, but the instructions and riding techniques were explained so thoroughly that we had no trouble at all with the English tour.
I was unsure about wearing a helmet. If you're worried, you can wear one, but the other couples weren't wearing helmets, so we decided not to. All the horses were well-trained (though some were quite greedy and tended to wander off), so it was fine without a helmet.
There was a bag available at the stable that you could borrow for free. You can put drinks, smartphones, and digital cameras in it. One person on the same tour attached a handle to their digital camera and took lots of photos while riding. I thought it would be a hassle to carry a selfie stick, so I just took my smartphone, but I was nervous about dropping it while taking pictures. I wished I had attached it to the selfie stick.
We also rode through the beautiful nature along the river, soaking in plenty of negative ions.
It was an afternoon tour, and it drizzled a bit on the way, but we were lucky that it didn't rain at Waipi'o! I would love to go horseback riding again when I visit the Big Island.

大自然の中川の中も進んで行きます。マイナスイオンをたっぷり浴びてきました。
午後からのツアーで、行く途中パラパラと雨が降っていましたが、ワイピオは雨が降らなくてラッキーでした！またハワイ島に行った時には乗馬したいです。

It was my first experience riding a horse, but I got used to it in about 30 minutes. The guide was flexible and provided support throughout the ride. Since we walked along narrow paths in the valley, the horse stopped to drink water and eat grass along the way, and we even passed by cars, which helped me improve my reins handling. They also took some great photos.

The meeting point was quite far and hard to find. I was a bit nervous during the journey, but somehow I understood the pickup fee.

It takes a long time to get on the horse. We went down the valley in a four-wheel drive vehicle, and it was quite an old car! The engine warning light was on, which was a bit scary.
The horses are well-trained, so it's safe. Even beginners will be fine.
Also, you can't go to the bathroom for about three hours. Just a heads up. Plus, the bathroom you can use before that is really dirty!

I actually wanted to go horseback riding in Waipi'o Valley, but I couldn't make a reservation, so I gave up. I was able to make a reservation for horseback riding at the ranch, so I participated here instead. They didn't speak any Japanese at all, but they explained things in simple English with smiles, so I hardly had any trouble. They provide Western boots, socks, parkas, jackets, and bags, so you can go hands-free without any issues. I left my valuables with them, but I took a drink, camera, and phone in my bag. Sneakers would be fine, but I think it's better to borrow boots. I had my own socks, so I wore those. Did we ride for about 1.5 hours? We galloped and trotted around the vast ranch grounds. Since my husband was almost a beginner, I thought we would just walk, but he looked at the situation and asked if we wanted to try running, and we did a few times. The horses do gauge people to some extent, but they are calm and listen well, so I wasn't particularly worried. They smiled and said, "Come back again next year!" Thank you very much! I want to come again!

In the early morning, there was heavy rain, and I thought we might be riding in the rain, but fortunately, the weather cleared up. We drove down to the valley, but the road was steep and narrow. Arriving there was a bit nerve-wracking, but we made it. We also got to see the waterfall that I wanted to see along the way. The horseback riding tour began, and our two cute dogs joined us as well. We crossed a river along the way, which was very refreshing. However, the horse had to pee, poop, and eat grass at various points. At the end, the guide took some photos for us.

We signed up for the 2.5-hour course for four family members. We gathered at 8:30 and arrived at the meeting point on time, but since the group for the 1.5-hour course, which was scheduled for 9:30, arrived before 9:00, we ended up starting with them and had to wait for nearly an hour after we were ready... During that time, there was no explanation given.

After being taught how to handle the horses, we set off. We all climbed up the highlands together. The weather was nice, and the views were great. We walked briskly several times, and about an hour passed.

As mentioned in other people's posts, we were wondering if we would also be on the 1.5-hour course, but along the way, we were told, "They go Long Course," and we took a different route. The other group descended and went back.

We continued to climb higher into the highlands and experienced a canter for the first time. It was for a short time, but it was an incredible speed and vibration, and I clung on desperately to avoid falling off the horse, making it a valuable experience.

After that, we arrived at a scenic viewpoint. We took photos with Maui Island in the background, with mountains and the sea, before descending. The actual riding time was about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I think it would be less confusing if the 1.5-hour course was labeled as the "Standard Course" and the 2.5-hour course as the "Long Course." The horseback riding itself was five stars due to the perfect weather and location, but the local staff's response was somewhat lacking, so I give it four stars.

8時半集合で時間通りに集合場所に行きましたが、9時半集合の１．５時間コースのグループが9時前に到着したために、結局その人達と一緒にスタートすることになり、準備が出来てから１時間近く待たされることに…
その間なんの説明もありませんでした。
馬の扱い方を教えてもらって出発。皆で高原をどんどん登って行きます。
天気も良く、見晴らしも良好。途中何度か速歩をしながら１時間ほどがすぎました。
他の人の投稿にもあるように、自分たちも１．５時間コースになるのかなぁと思っていましたが、途中で「They go Long Course」と言われ自分たちは別のルートへ。他のグループは下山し帰っていきました。
更に高原を登って行き、途中で初めての駈歩を体験。少しの時間でしたが、すごい速さと振動に馬から落ちないよう必死にしがみつきましたが貴重な体験となりました。
その後絶景ポイントに到着。マウイ島が見晴らせる場所で山と海をバックに写真撮影をし下山となりました。
正味の乗馬時間は２時間１５分程。
１．５時間コースは「標準コース」２．５時間コースは「ロングコース」とした方が誤解がないのではと思います。
乗馬自体は最高の天気、ロケーションで星５つですが、現地の人の対応がいまいちなので星４つです。

I reserved the 9 AM session, and the confirmation email I received the day before also stated 9 AM. I left early to make sure I would arrive on time, but when I got there on the day, I found out that it had been changed to the 12:30 PM session without my knowledge. We advance through the canyon in formation. At first, I was nervous, but once we started walking, I could freely control my horse with the reins and my legs. Sometimes, the horse would eat grass on its own or relieve itself, which was amusing! Wild horses were also out for a stroll! It's all in English, but I managed just fine! I want to go again!

渓谷をみんなで隊列組んで、進みます。最初は緊張していましたが、歩き出せば手綱の引き方、お腹の蹴り方、などで愛馬を自由にコントロールできます。時々、勝手に馬が草を食べたり、うんこ、おしっこしたり、面白い！野性の馬も散歩したり！

I participated with friends in November. I was looking for a tour with transportation included, but I was told that the transportation companies were fully booked, so I decided to take the plunge and join this tour without transportation, renting a car for the first time abroad. It was a good decision in terms of cost performance.

This was my second time riding a horse, but that didn't matter; we set off after a brief introduction. The height was quite significant, but we walked slowly through the woods, so it wasn't scary. We also splashed through the water, which added some variety and made it fun.

My horse was a bit of a glutton and stopped to eat grass along the way, but it was all very relaxed. The dogs that walked alongside us were also very cute.

Oh, Japanese is not spoken here. They knew a few words and occasionally said something, but it wasn't a problem for horseback riding.

送迎付のツアーを探していたのですが、送迎会社がいっぱいだと言われ、思い切って海外初レンタカーで、送迎なしのこのツアーに参加しました。コストパフォーマンスとしても正解でした。
馬に乗るのは2回目でしたが、そんなことおかまいなしに、ちょっとのレクで出発します。結構高さがありますが、木立をゆっくり歩いていくのでこわくはなく、でも水の中をじゃぶじゃぶ入ったりして、変化もあって楽しかったです。
私の馬は食いしん坊で、道中草を食べて動かなくなったりしましたが、それものんびりと。一緒に散歩する犬たちもとてもかわいかったです。
あ、日本語は通じません。少し単語を知っていて時々何か言ってましたが。乗馬には問題ないですよ。

Compared to other tours, the waiting time before starting was long, and the time spent riding the horse was short. We followed almost the same course, but other tours were already turning back and passing us. We were on the horse for about 40 to 50 minutes. I expected it to be 1.5 to 2 hours. The route felt more like the horse was just walking along a car track rather than going through the great outdoors. The guide spoke in English, but since there was a long line of horses, only those near the speaker could hear. I would recommend a tour that allows you to walk down into the canyon instead. Alternatively, if you're looking for a similar tour, I would recommend the Na'alapa tour.

I, who can hardly speak English, participated with my 67-year-old mother, who doesn't understand any English, and my 9-year-old son, along with five other beginners in horseback riding. They showed us a demonstration and explained key points in Japanese. My 9-year-old son was guided by the staff, and we slowly rode through the valley. There were eight participants and two guides, which gave us a sense of privacy, allowing us to enjoy ourselves without any hesitation. Next time, I would like to try riding on the mountain side. Everyone was satisfied. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful experience.

英語が殆ど出来ない私が、全く英語が分からない67才の母と9才の息子を筆頭に乗馬初心者5人を引き連れ参加しました(^o^)
実際に見本を見せてくれ、要所は日本語で説明もあり、9才の息子はガイドさんが手綱を引っ張り、渓谷の中をゆっくり回りました。参加者8名でガイドさんが2名、プライベート感もあり、気兼ねすること無く十分楽しめました。次回は、山側を回ってみたいです(^-^)皆、満足しておりました。素晴らしい体験をさせて頂きありがとうございました。
