An awesome way to spend Christmas Morning! This was part of many firsts for our family: our first trip to Hawaii, first time kayaking in the ocean, first time snorkeling, .... We had a wonderful time. My husband and I shared a Kayak and our son had his own. All of us had a wonderful time. My husband and son even jumped off the cliff! My only disappointment was I wish I had some photos of us during the experience.

We participated in the morning plan on February 2, 2012, and all three of us were very satisfied!! I've been to Hawaii about ten times, but since coming to the Big Island, I've fallen in love with this place and have been coming here for four consecutive years. I usually stay at a condominium in Waikoloa, but this time we also spent two nights in Hilo and were satisfied after seeing the red flames of Kilauea at night before returning to our "home" in Waikoloa.
I usually play around snorkeling in the nearby sea. I was interested in this tour and wanted to go, but I thought it wouldn't be right to go alone while leaving my wife and grandmother behind. However, I reconsidered because:
1. The boat is large and stable.
2. It has clean restrooms.
3. Breakfast, lunch, drinks, and fruit are included.
With these conditions, my grandmother could just enjoy watching from the boat.
I was deeply moved and impressed after participating for the first time. My English is limited to what I learned in middle school, so I was worried. Luckily, there was a young Japanese sister on board, and I asked her to help me if I didn't understand something, but I managed to get by on my own.
Along the way, we saw whales, and just before we arrived at our destination, we were welcomed by a pod of dolphins. The staff and crew were enthusiastic and cool, and their commitment to ensuring each guest had a great time was palpable.
The sea was clear, with coral reefs and schools of tropical fish. Most of the guests seemed to be Americans, and everyone, young and old, was lively and friendly. There was no need for words...
Honestly, I wish I understood more English. The beautiful and clean boat eased my grandmother's initial worries, and she even asked, "When are we going again?"
Even without getting in the water, she enjoyed watching everyone play in the beautifully clear coral reef from the boat. The staff filmed the experience, so I quickly purchased the video and watch it from time to time.
My younger brother, who was watching it with me, is retiring this year, and he wants us all to go together as a celebration, so we’ve already made a reservation for February 14, 2013. I’m looking forward to it!
Whether in winter or summer, the water is nice, but it can be cold when you get back on the boat, so I need to remember to bring a large towel or a yacht parka.
The most important thing is to "have fun together." Among the things to bring for this tour, it mentions bringing sunglasses and also an "adventurous spirit." I really love this feeling.
I can't wait to go again!

I participated on the day I arrived on the Big Island. Since my hotel was the Kona Coast Resort, it was just a short walk to the Keauhou Shopping Center where the Sea Paradise office is located. I found it cumbersome to confirm my reservation over the phone, so I went directly to the office to do so. (Photo: Since it was from the hotel, the office was in the building immediately to the right after entering from the lower entrance of the shopping center.) You walk past the Hilton to get to the port. They give you a map, so it's easy to find. As mentioned in the reviews, I rented a wetsuit next to the office. Everyone rented one. It takes just a little over 5 minutes from the port to the location where there is an English explanation. There were no other Japanese people besides my family. It's totally fine if you don't understand English. Each person receives a buoy, and (a large foreign man received two) you tuck it under your arm and enter the sea. As noted in the reviews, the best position is near the light. I absolutely recommend it. Mantas come right away, and their power is astonishing. About three of them circle around so closely that you can almost touch them.
Points:
- Be sure to rent a wetsuit.
- Position yourself near the light.
- While you tuck the buoy under your arm on the raft, when on the raft, hold it with your hands and bring the buoy to your feet to view it horizontally. If it's near your upper body, you may get seasick after about 40 minutes.
If possible, bring a digital camera that can record video; you'll be able to capture amazing footage. You can take beautiful pictures even without a flash. Since the manta's movements are fast, photos may come out blurry. I used a LUMIX FT-20 and captured some impressive videos.
If you're hesitating about whether to participate, I can assure you it will be a wonderful memory.

We enjoyed the Keauhou Kayaking Adventure very much. The Staff was outstanding! They were patient and very capable kayakers. One led while the other stayed in the back for those that were a bit slower. We didn't feel rushed or exhausted, as Walter kept the pace based on the group's abilities. We had some pretty decent swells and were not able to get close to the Sea Cave, but the scenery was still incredible. The snorkeling stop was fun, and the Staff had enough masks/snorkels for everyone. There were some first-timers with our group and there were times when they struggled a bit, but in the parking lot afterwards said they had a great time. The Staff, again, was very patient with them and never made them feel like beginners. We own a kayak, so it was easy for us. . .but you may want to rent once on the mainland (or hotel) before you embark on this one, just to make the whole experience a little easier. When the weather is bad and the sun doesn't shine, the perceived temperature is low, and you end up going home without drying off, so it was very cold.
I was able to see dolphins swimming in the distance, and I think if the weather had been good, it would have been a very satisfying snorkeling experience.

My husband and I went on our honeymoon and book this activity for our first day in Hawaii. The description stated, Sea Cave Kayaking Adventure, but we got so much more! We kayaked, went to the sea cave, swam with dolphins, snorkeled, got to jump off a cliff, fed the mongoose, had a nice lunch, and learned a lot about sea life, not to mention the hundreds of different fish and sea life we got to encounter. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and always kept safety a priority! No question about it we would return time and time again!

I participated in the morning tour with my wife. The entire guide was in English, but we received a Japanese notice sheet during check-in at the reception, which I think is almost the same as the verbal instructions given when boarding. As someone who struggles with English, I understood less than half, but reading the notice in advance helped me grasp the general idea. Just watching the beautiful coral reefs and colorful fish made me feel happy. On the way there, we even saw dolphins playing in the waves created by the boat. The food and drinks were more than enough to fill us up. There were many children present, so I believe people of all ages can enjoy this experience. There are also floaties available.
It seemed that most of the participants were travelers from the mainland United States, but there were a few other Japanese participants as well. However, I got the impression that the staff didn't engage much with the Japanese participants. Of course, it wasn't neglect; it might be due to the language barrier, leading to the impression that Japanese people are "hard to engage with." The staff properly offered equipment rentals and food and drink guidance, so it was reassuring, and I think it's perfectly fine to ask questions in broken English if you're unsure about something.

My granddaughter (14 yrs old) and I did this kayak snorkeling trip last month (July 27, 2012) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! We had never kayaked before but had snorkled quite a few times over on Oahu. Our group of 11 included both experienced and novice kayakers. The guides (especially Brent) were helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and especially patient with us newbies. Water visibility was fantastic. We saw an abundance of different fish when we stopped to snorkel and were lucky enough to have a pod of dolphins come within 15 feet of us. That alone made the experience memorable. Water bottles were provided on the kayaks and when we stopped we snacked on drinks, chips and fresh delicious pineapple. I would strongly recommend wearing water shoes/sandals in order to be able to easily climb up to the lava cliff to make the jump. Would I do this snorkeling trip again? In a heartbeat!!!

One thing to note is to not forget your motion sickness medication. You might get seasick.
One point of concern is that for the first 30 minutes or so, you cruise around the bay before starting to prepare to see the mantas. It's unclear whether you're waiting in line because of many competing companies or for some other reason, but cruising around the bay at sunset was not interesting at all...

Hello, this is Miya.
On June 30th, I went on a snorkeling cruise to Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island (with breakfast and lunch included).
Five years ago, I went on an evening plan, so this was my second experience as I wanted to see the beautiful sea in the morning.
On the Fair Wind, I enjoyed a tour of the Big Island where Japanese was not spoken.
The weather was cloudy, but it was great because I could see well underwater without getting sunburned.
I particularly enjoyed the colorful tropical fish that gather in the shallow waters, and it was a great experience for families who are not strong swimmers, from a 4-year-old child to a 65-year-old lady.
Especially, the free rental of bodyboards to peek underwater was very popular.
The slide extending from the second floor feels high at first, but elementary school students can enjoy it without any problems.
I hesitated a bit at the diving board, but next time I want to dive in headfirst.
For meals, breakfast included bread and fruit, and for lunch, we had BBQ hamburgers cooked on the boat.
The hamburgers eaten in the beautiful sea were incredibly delicious.

It was incredibly powerful. They come so close that they almost bump into you. They swoop right in front of you again and again! Four to five mantas came by repeatedly.
They come to eat the plankton gathered around the lights, and it was my first time consciously noticing the plankton itself, so it was very refreshing.
The meeting point is the office at the Kona Shopping Center. You check in there. There are no staff who speak Japanese. They didn't provide specific guidance on the wetsuits, but there was staff in the next room who lent them out. I participated in July, and I think it’s better to wear a wetsuit as the night sea can be a bit cold, especially for Japanese people who tend to feel cold more.
After borrowing the wetsuit, everyone moves to the harbor past the Sheraton. It’s easier if you have a rental car. If you ask the staff at the office, they can call a taxi for you. I considered taking a shuttle, but the timing didn’t work out.
Once we arrived at the harbor and boarded the boat, we enjoyed a cruise while watching the sunset, and when it got dark, we finally entered the sea to see the mantas. We held onto a pole and waited for the mantas to come to eat the plankton. After a while, one large manta, then two!! Four to five came by. We could see right into their mouths.
There are days when you might not see many, but we had mantas coming by repeatedly, and it was an impressive and wonderful experience. Everything was in English, but if you have courage, you can manage. It was just amazing.

It also provided a sense of how deep the water was, which made jumping off the cliff much easier. The guides provided plenty of refreshments, which made the trip back a little easier. Kayaking does require physical activity, so be prepared and drink water (which they will provide).

We participated as a couple with a 6-year-old child (kindergarten age).
We were able to see them properly! I think there were about 10 of them. It's definitely different from an aquarium! It’s magical, but some people might feel a bit scared because it’s quite dark.
We held onto a raft with downward-facing lights while waiting for the manta rays. You can float on your stomach with your feet on the float, so it’s easy and you don’t have to kick or tread water.
It seemed like they were coming closer to the brightest spot. Other tour rafts and divers were brighter, so they didn’t come too close, but we enjoyed it enough.
Since our child can’t swim yet, we used a jacket that we brought with us that inflates with air. They generally don’t use jackets, so if you need one, you should ask for it.
Also, it’s quite cold. Even people who usually handle the cold well were feeling chilly. Wearing two wetsuits keeps you warm, so it might be a good idea to ask if you can rent two when you get there.
I think it would be great to have a waterproof camera that can record video. For still images, you really need a big camera.

It's a little easier. The sea caves were non-existent. We only got 2 feet near a small little opening in the rock. The snorkeling was good. I rated the trip 4 stars only because of our guide who was really understanding and encouraging when it came to handling the fact that my daughter's boyfriend could not swim. It was because of our guide, I think his name is Brent, that John became daring enough to snorkel off the kayak and get help getting onto the rocks where he was able to relax a little and enjoy the snacks. The jump off the cliff is scary but fun to brag about afterwards. It was worth it for the experience of paddling a kayak on the open ocean but thank heaven the water wasn't rough when we went!

This large catamaran provides a wonderful relaxing ride over to the bay and they cook you a wonderful barbecue lunch in addition to a continental breakfast. There is lots of time to snorkel which is totally amazing! The coral and fish are beautiful. My favorite area is around the coral on the monument side. You will see lots of different fish and be sure and go back and snorkel some more after lunch! The catamaran does have slides and high platforms to jump off of, but the best part is snorkeling. They do offer snuba too, if you enjoy that. I highly recommend this tour. It is the best! Don't forget your underwater camera. Enjoy the attached pics.

This was by far our favorite part of visiting Hawaii for the first time. It was a total rush but we also felt completely safe with our extremely competent guides, Mattie and Jeramiah. Highly recommended. We have a slight fear of heights but the guides made us feel completely comfortable and we had so much fun!
If you're going to zip line in Hawaii, definitely use this company! Thanks again for an amazing experience, Kohala Zipline!

I participated in an afternoon cruise. I drove a rental car to the meeting point for the tour. The weather was nice, and the boat didn't rock much, but while I was fiddling with my camera and looking for my belongings, I started to feel a bit queasy. Since it takes time to get to Kealakekua Bay, I think it's better to take it slow and enjoy the view outside for a while after boarding.
The sea was very beautiful, and I could see all the way to the bottom. There were also many small fish. The boat was equipped not only with snorkeling sets but also with floaties and some kind of tool that allows you to look into the water without putting your face in it.
Only the consent form for the first tour was available in Japanese, but everything on the boat was in English. Since they also discuss safety precautions, I wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't understand English at all.
On the way back, we encountered dolphins, and they swam alongside the boat for a while, so we were able to enjoy some dolphin watching. It was a very satisfying tour.

After the tour ended, I realized that it wasn't an exploration through caves, but overall, it was very good.
Even as a beginner, when two people cooperate rhythmically in the kayak, we made great progress, and being close to the water made the blue of the sea stand out beautifully. At the snorkeling point, the waves were calm, and we could see colorful fish, plus we jumped off the cliffs!!! I really enjoyed playing in the sea.
For those planning to participate, I recommend:
- Wearing sandals that won’t come off for resting on the rocks.
- Taking sun protection measures is necessary. I suggest applying UV cream before heading back or wearing UV clothing. My feet got particularly sunburned.
The friendly service and enjoyable conversations were also memorable.

I have to say, the staff was fantastic. We came as a family - 2 adults and one 12-year old. One of us adults (me) got motion sickness on this trip. My 12 year old had to bear the brunt of the paddling as we were sharing a kayak. I was dreading the trip back from our snorkeling stop. The guides could see that we were struggling (because of my nausea and the high seas) and they tethered us to their kayak and helped us in. We continued to work our paddles but I think we might still be on the water today if it weren't for their help. My husband was in a single kayak and he did fantastic and had a great time. We certainly cannot blame anyone for my sea sickness except me but the staff was very nice about it and extremely helpful. Thanks guys for all of your help! My husband and son are ready to go again but I think I'll sit the next one out.

My family had a wonderful time on this snorkel adventure! Even though only 3 of us were signed up for the afternoon activity, the staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and flexible.
We had a wonderful ride out to Captain Cook's monument, with stops along the way to explain some of the history for that part of the island. The snorkeling equipment was in very nice shape and fit well. The reef was very nice, with a wide variety of fish, and plenty of time to see everything. There were plenty of refreshments and snacks, including fresh pineapple and guava waiting for us when we finished snorkeling. On the ride back, out guide took us further out into the ocean to see if we might see any whales or dolphins.
All in all, this was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon of our last day on the island.

Thank you for participating in the night snorkeling with manta rays. We are delighted to hear that you were able to see wild mantas up close.
Regarding your feedback about the first 30 minutes of the cruise, we confirmed with the operating company that this time is typically used for explanations and changing clothes. Additionally, when anchoring the boat in the sea, we take into account the sea conditions and the state of the coral reefs, so please understand that it may take a bit longer depending on the day's circumstances.
We look forward to serving you again.
