I had wanted to participate for a long time, but I had to give up because the lunar phase and travel schedule didn't match. However, this time it finally happened!!!

On the day of participation, we were blessed with good weather, and the sunset gradient in the sky was beautiful. During the stargazing session, the guide explained the constellations clearly and thoroughly, and the starry sky was truly stunning.

As for cold weather preparation, on the day of participation, it was 28°C during the day, so I wore a light 3/4 sleeve top and long pants. I even forgot the disposable hand warmers I brought for warmth at the hotel, haha.

However, during the hike up to Onizuka, it was said to be "less windy and warmer than usual," around 9°C, so I wore my UK ultra-down jacket and only the borrowed cold-weather pants. Some people wore fleece, but it was warmer than I expected, so this was enough at Onizuka.

After arriving near the summit to watch the sunset, I was lent an additional jacket, hat, and gloves, which kept me warm and cozy, but it was still a bit chilly due to the wind, haha. If you're sensitive to the cold or participating during a colder season, proper preparation is essential. The stargazing location was a bit lower down, so it was perfectly warm there.

The bento box we received on the way to Onizuka was better than I expected; I thought it would be like a convenience store bento, but it came with warm miso soup and a drink. It was a proper bento, and I was surprised! It was delicious! From what I saw of the bento boxes from many other tour companies, this one might have been the most luxurious, haha. At the stargazing location, there was also a service of cookies and tea, making for a warm and cozy experience. I'm really glad I participated in this tour. I've created wonderful new memories on the Big Island!♪

以前から参加したかったけど、良い月齢と旅行日程が合わず断念してましたが
今回やっと実現しました！！！
参加当日は天候にも恵まれサンセットのグラデーションの空は美しく、
その後の星空観測ではガイドさんが星座の説明を分かりやすく丁寧に説明してくれ
満天の星空は本当に美しかったです。

防寒対策ですが参加当日は日中は28℃あり上は薄手の7分袖1枚＋下は長ズボンで参加。
寒さ対策に持って行った使い捨てカイロもホテルに忘れる始末wwww

でも途中オニヅカで「いつもより風も少なく暖かい」との事で9℃くらいで
持参したUKのウルトラダウンを着用し同時に貸していただける防寒着のズボンのみ着用。
フリースなど着てた方もいらっしゃいましたが、思ってたより暖かかったので
オニヅカではコレだけで十分でした。

サンセットを見る山頂付近に到着後、上着+帽子+手袋をさらに貸して頂き
モコモコ状態で暖かかったんですが、やはり風があるため
体感的にはチョット寒かったですww
寒がりさんや寒い時期の参加なら、それなりの対策必須です。
星空観測の場所では少し下った場所だったのでバッチリ暖かかったです(^_^)

行きのオニヅカで頂いたお弁当はコンビニ弁当くらいに思ってたら
温かいお味噌汁に飲み物もあり、ちゃんとしたお弁当でビックリ！美味しかったですww
たぶん他の沢山のツアー会社さんに参加されてる方のお弁当を見た限り一番豪華かもww
星空観測の場所でもクッキーと紅茶のサービスもあり
至れり尽くせりで心も身体も暖かく過ごせ、このツアーに参加してホント良かったです。
ハワイ島での素晴らしい新たな想い出が増えました♪

I was worried about altitude sickness since I was with my elderly mother, but she only had a slight headache, so it was fine. The sunset was beautiful, and the gradient of the Earth's shadow afterward was stunning as well. During the stargazing, we could see the distant flames of Kilauea Volcano! The moon was close to full, so the sky was brighter than I had imagined. I was thrilled to see the Southern Cross! On the way there, we also stopped at a lava point, which was enjoyable. I was torn between the Kilauea Volcano tour and Mauna Kea, but I'm glad I chose Mauna Kea.

I'm glad I went with Masashi, which had great reviews. The lunch at the Onizuka Visitor Center was more luxurious compared to other tour groups, and the taste was excellent. The stargazing took place at a high-altitude parking lot, so we weren't disturbed by surrounding lights. If we had done stargazing at the Onizuka Center, the surrounding lights would have been a concern. The guide's talk was also enjoyable! Especially the explanations about the stars were easy to understand and impressive. On the way back, we stopped at the Mauna Lani Resort Shops, so I was able to buy breakfast for the next morning.

口コミで評判のよかったマサシにしてよかったです。オニズカビジターセンターでのお弁当も他のツアー客と比べて豪華だったし、味も問題なし。星空観測が標高の高い地点の駐車場だったので周りの灯りに邪魔されません。オニヅカセンターで星空観測だとちょっと周りの灯りが気になりそうですもの。ガイドさんのトークも楽しかった！特に星空の説明はわかりやすくて感激。帰りは、マウナラニリゾートのＳｈｏｐｓに寄ってくれたので次の日の朝食も買えてよかったです。

As a solo traveller from the UK it was a bit of a lucky dip as there are other providers of similar tours to this one.....worth every penny!our tour guide was Blake,he was very knowledgeable and friendly the sunset was truly amazing and the star gazing was fun and I learned alot about some of the stars..the telescopes was very good pieces of kit and we even saw the moon rising from the cloud horizon which was amazing too....we were very lucky with the weather conditions it wasn't windy at all,still a bit chilly on the summit tho..the parka jackets were good quality and clean....I could carry on,but gonna leave it here as amazing well worth it....one small note,the gloves supplied keep your hands warm but don't make it easy to take pictures on small cameras and mobile phones.

I was a bit worried since we were going over 4,000 meters, but thanks to the great arrangements made by Matsuzaki, there were no issues at all. The full moon was just a few days away, so we couldn't see a 100% starry sky due to the moonlight, but we enjoyed it enough. The sunset was amazing. I want to take my family and go again.

My main purpose on the Big Island was to observe the stars at Mauna Kea, so I joined this tour. The bus was full with 13 people. The guide talked almost the entire way there, which kept it from being boring. At various points, we also had opportunities for photos, which was a nice memory since I was traveling alone. Since I heard about my professor's honeymoon trip to Mauna Kea, it has been a place I've longed to visit. It was colder than I expected! I had a happy time listening to the explanation of the constellations while lying on the ground. It was very helpful that they pointed out the stars with a laser, making it easy to understand their positions.

They also provided a telescope, and after seeing Jupiter with its two lines and its surrounding satellites, I was thrilled to see the moon with its clearly visible craters. Next time, if I have the opportunity to participate, I would like to join during a time when there are many stars visible with less moonlight.

車の中から見た虹、山頂から見た夕日、日が沈んが直後にだけ見ることのできる地球の影と虹色グラデーションの空、そして最後に見た星空と月・・・。本当にいろいろな素晴らしい地球の色を体感させていただきました。

地面に寝っ転がりながら星座の説明を聞かせていただき幸せな時間を過ごさせて頂きました。
レーザーで指し示していただいたので星の位置がわかり大変よかったと思います。

望遠鏡も用意していただき、2筋のラインが入った木星と木星の周りの衛星を見た後、クレーターのはっきり見える月を見て感激しました。
次回、参加する機会があったら月の光が少ない星がたくさん見える時期に参加したいと思います。

ハワイの大自然を満喫したツアーでした。一緒に参加した甥はまたハワイ島に行きたいと申しております。きっと忘れられない思い出になったことと思います。

A must-visit at least once! 一度は行くべき!

The main purpose of this trip was the "Sunset & Stargazing at the Summit of Mauna Kea." Although I had heard various stories from those who have been there, the incredible experience can only be truly understood by seeing it with your own eyes and experiencing it with your own body!

We planned our trip to coincide with the "new moon." (I later heard that it’s not something to worry too much about.)

Since we would be driving on mountain roads, if you are prone to motion sickness, motion sickness medication is a must-have item. They provide warm clothing, but it might also be good to bring a portable hand warmer. The bento was delicious, and having warm drinks like miso soup and cocoa was a nice touch!

During the star explanation, I was looking up for so long that my neck started to hurt (laughs). Seeing others lying down made me think I should have done that from the start. The explanations with the laser pointer were very clear and helpful.

行った事のある人たちから色々と話は聞いていたものの、やはり「自分の目」で見て「自分の体で体験」しないと言葉では伝わらない凄さ!!

私達は、「新月」にあわせて旅行の日程を決めました。(後で聞いたのですが、あまり気にしなくても大丈夫のようで)

山道を走行するので、車に酔う方は「酔い止め」は、必須アイテム。
防寒着は、用意してくださっていますが「携帯カイロ」も持って行くと良いかも。
お弁当も美味しく、お味噌汁、ココア他温かい飲み物も嬉しい‼

星の説明の時、ずっと上を向いていたので首が痛くなってしまいました(笑)
寝っころがっている方がいるのを見て、はじめから寝てれば良かったと思いました。
レーザーペンでの説明は、とてもわかりやすく良かったです。

Unfortunately, I couldn't reach the summit due to strong winds, but since it was clear, I was able to experience the breathtaking sunset! The Orion constellation is clearly visible even in Tokyo, but at Mauna Kea, I was amazed to see it among so many stars that I couldn't even tell where it was. I'm so happy to have had such a wonderful experience in my lifetime! I hope I can go again in the summer.

Stargazing around 4,000 meters, it was an incredible starry sky that you can't experience in Tokyo. During the tour, our guide, Mr. Matsuzaki, took various commemorative photos for us, and I was surprised that we could download high-resolution images for free. I got so caught up in taking my own photos that I ended up with only a few, but participants should definitely have their photos taken. It makes for a great keepsake.

As everyone mentioned, the sunset was magical and wonderful. Additionally, we were lucky that it coincided with the new moon, so the stars were truly beautiful. We could see artificial satellites, shooting stars, and even the distant Kilauea volcano's crater glowing red in the darkness! I'm really glad I participated! In Masashi's tour, the bento provided was not in the usual takeout containers but in a traditional layered box, and instead of disposable chopsticks, we had real ones, and the miso soup was served in a bowl, which showed great thoughtfulness. Also, our guide, Konno, took some stylish photos that became wonderful keepsakes. Thank you!

It was my first time reaching the summit in February, and the conditions for stargazing were perfect, so I was blessed with great timing and weather.
The travel time is long, but Stefan's entertaining talk makes the journey enjoyable.
Stargazing, one of my goals on the Big Island... it's something you should see at least once in your lifetime!

Definitely do this during your holiday! The sunset and scenery at Mauna Kea is out-of-this-world and impressive. The stargazing afterwards is fun, as well as amazing to see so many stars so brightly.

On the day of the tour, the weather was clear with a blue sky, but unfortunately, we couldn't reach the summit due to strong winds. However, we were able to see a beautiful sunset just below the Mauna Kea Visitor Center, and later, we enjoyed stargazing until the moon rose. Despite the challenging conditions of strong winds and the bright moon making it hard to see the stars, it was wonderful to look up at the night sky with the other participants, listen to interesting explanations, and enjoy warm tea and biscuits. Although it was disappointing not to reach the summit of Mauna Kea, I had a fantastic time and created lovely memories!

ツアー当日、天気は晴れで青空も広がっていたけれど、山頂が強風で残念ながら登ることができませんでした。しかし、オニヅカビジターズセンターの少し下あたりで綺麗な夕日をみて、その後月が上がるまで星空を見ることができました。強風だけじゃなく、月が明るくて星が見えずらいという悪条件が重なったものの、星空をツアーの参加者の方々と見上げて、面白い説明を聞いて、暖かい紅茶を飲んだりビスケットを食べたりと、最高でした。マウナケア山頂に登れなかったのは残念でしたが、非常に楽しめましたし、素敵な思い出になりました！

We were picked up at the hotel and headed to the Onizuka Visitor Center (about 2800m above sea level). As we sped along the highway, we listened to our guide explain about the black cattle, sheep, and goats raised on a ranch on the Big Island. After joining up with other tour guests, we began our ascent up the mountain. About an hour and a half after the pickup, we arrived at the Onizuka Visitor Center. We had dinner from our bento boxes and took a stroll around the area. I was amazed by the stunning silver color of the silversword (a native species of the Big Island, Mauna Kea Silver Sword), and since this is also a sacred site for Hawaiians, I discovered a prayer area (the original form of an altar), which piqued my interest. It was clear that prayers were directed toward the mountain.

Dressed in warm clothing, we got back in the vehicle. The car began to climb the bumpy mountain road that could only be navigated by a four-wheel drive. After about an hour of rough terrain, we reached the summit. As expected, at 4200m on Mauna Kea, we could see the sea of clouds far below. Due to the high altitude, it is said to be 99% clear. 　太陽が沈むと、天空にだんだんと星が見えてきます。うっすらと太陽の通る道も見え、寒くもなってきます。オリオン座、カシオペア座、北極星を見つけました。そこまでが私の知識の限界。やがてガイドさんが、レザーポインターを使い、誕生星座をツアー客に質問しながら、天空に広がる星座の紹介です。ギリシャ神話の世界が広がります。オリオン座の大星雲、双子座，水瓶座、双子座、天秤座、さらにはスバルなど、もちろん、既に沈んだ星座もあります。私の星座は、オリオンが出ているときは見えません。残念。
