The day before, I was able to swim with dolphins, and on this day, I headed towards the mountain. Along the way, I felt uneasy about the weather due to rain and fog, but when the guide showed us real-time images of the summit area, it was clear, so I decided to trust that and continue. After two bathroom breaks, by the time we arrived at the Onizuka Center, the sun was beginning to set. Since we took a sufficient break here, I was able to avoid headaches from altitude sickness. Choosing a tour with a longer acclimatization time was the right decision. The bento lunch was also very delicious, and I appreciated the eco-friendly aspect of not using disposable containers or chopsticks.

From Onizuka, we went up a dirt road for a while, took commemorative photos in front of the Subaru Telescope, and then continued to the summit to watch the sunset sinking into the sea of clouds. After sunset, we descended a bit (to 3900m) for stargazing. Unfortunately, the moon was a bit bright as it was just past the first quarter, but I was still able to see an impressive number of stars for the first time. We even had fun taking photos of ourselves jumping as if we were invisible, not just observing.

Since our accommodation was at the southern end of the Kona area, the pickup was first and the drop-off was last, making it a long two-hour drive, but I enjoyed it so much that I lost track of time.

さてオニヅカからは暫くダートを上がり、すばる望遠鏡前で記念撮影、さらに山頂へと上がり雲海に沈む夕日を眺めました。日没後は少し降りて(3900m地点)で星空観察。あいにく半月を少し過ぎたくらいの月でしたのですこし明るかったのですが、それでも初めて見るくらいの数の星を見ることができました。ジャンプして透明人間写真を撮ってみたり、単なる観察だけでない楽しみもありましたね。
宿泊先がKona地区の南の端だったこともあり、迎えは最初、送りは最後でしたので、片道2時間のロングドライブでしたが、時間が経つのを忘れるくらい楽しめました。

My first visit to the summit of Mauna Kea was surprisingly challenging due to the thin air, which made it a bit hard to breathe (though I think this varies from person to person). Although the participants this time didn't use it, I heard that the guide is prepared with oxygen supplies, so there’s no need to worry.

I was very satisfied with the sunset view. For stargazing, the half-moon was directly overhead, which made it a bit difficult to see some stars, but the guide's thorough and entertaining explanations were very informative. On that day, it was unusually warm for Mauna Kea, with no wind, so I was able to enjoy the tour without too much difficulty.

Next time, I would like to participate in a sunrise and stargazing tour as well.

　初めてのマウナケア山頂は、思いのほか空気が薄く少し息苦しく感じました（個人差は有ると思います）。今回の参加の方々は使いませんでしたが、ガイドさんは酸素吸入の準備もしているそうですから心配ないでしょう。
　夕日はばっちり見ることが出来て大満足でした。星空観測は半月が真上にあり、星が見えにくい所があって少し残念でしたが、ガイドさんの丁寧で面白い説明がありとてもためになりました。当日はマウナケアにしては珍しいくらい暖かで風もないということで、あまりきつい思いもせずにツアーを楽しむことが出来ました。
　今度は、日の出＆星空観測のツアーも参加してみたいと思います。

I participated with my in-laws and husband. The weather wasn't great on the day, but we were able to see a beautiful sunset at the summit. We also got to see the starry sky when the clouds cleared, and I was very moved to confirm the Milky Way. Our guide, Macchan, was bright and funny, which made it enjoyable for everyone. We took a lot of photos, and I was very happy to have starry sky pictures that I couldn't take myself. The winter clothing provided was also more substantial compared to other tour companies, so I would like to recommend this tour to others.

On April 28, I visited Mauna Kea for the first time in eight years. Last time, we reached the summit during the day, so this time, my husband and I participated to see the starry sky. Unfortunately, Mauna Kea was covered in clouds from below, which made me worry about how it would be, but our guide, Mino, cheerfully shared fun stories during the drive, easing my concerns.

The summit was indeed windy and cold, but the sunset was incredibly beautiful, and I felt it was worth participating. Additionally, the warm clothing provided made me feel comfortable and secure. 本当に山頂は風もきつくて寒かったけど夕日はとてもきれいで参加してよかったなって実感しました。
また、準備していただいている防寒着も暖かく安心してすごせました。
何より、ミノさんの星に関する説明が詳しく分かり易くて感心しました、その他には望遠鏡で月のクレーター・土星を見せていただき、だたただ感動でした。

It's been five years since I visited Mauna Kea. The road to Mauna Kea has been newly constructed, making it easy to arrive. I was worried about the clouds from below, but the weather at the summit was perfect with no wind, and the sunset was incredibly beautiful. I finally got to visit the place closest to the sky in Hawaii, which I had always wanted to go to. At 4,200 meters, higher than Mount Fuji, where there is still some snow, I witnessed the sunset... Watching the clouds change from orange to a fiery crimson, seeing the sun set and the colors shift from deep blue to black, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of nature. I was determined to participate since I was going to the Big Island of Hawaii.

The view of the sea of clouds and the sunset from the summit of Mauna Kea was amazing. The stargazing afterward was also enjoyable with very detailed explanations.

Additionally, the jacket rental and warm drink service were really nice. The guide's stories were interesting, and the time flew by.

It was a very educational tour with a breathtaking view. I just expected astronomy but the tour guide knew a great deal about volcanos, geology and island plant and animal life as well. The guide was awesome and I love taking tours with someone as trained and passionate about his work as this guy was. The food was so-so but it was hot and ready. The bus was cramped but it got us there and had big windows for great viewing. Once at the top, the observatories were incredible to look at as they opened up for evening viewing. The view of the sunset was also breathtaking, and not just from the lack of oxygen on top of the mountain. Once we headed back down for stargazing, our guides did a great job of pointing out astronomy as we used there 11 inch telescopes. Very great tour and highly recommended!

As a family with teenagers this trip catered to our needs. Our trip up the mountain was very good and our stop at the visitors centre for our meal gave us a chance to acclimatize before moving onto the summit. We made it to the summit and saw a wonderful sunset before moving onto some stargazing. Our artic jackets were more than handy and we arrived back in Kona by 11pm.

Mauna Kea is taller than Mount Fuji. Before departing, I was worried about whether I would be able to see the summit clearly since there were thick clouds covering it when I looked from the hotel. During the journey, our guide, Stephan (who speaks fluent Japanese, surprisingly for his appearance), made the trip enjoyable, and we quickly arrived at the Onizuka Visitor Center for a break. The bento and miso soup, which were my first taste of Japanese food in a while, were delicious and comforting. After acclimating my body, we headed to the summit. The gravel road was incredible, with no guardrails! As we ascended, I experienced altitude sickness for the first time in my life by the time we reached the summit. I thought I wouldn't be able to enjoy the tour, but when I saw the sunset sinking into the clouds, I was so moved that I forgot about the altitude sickness! I've never seen such a beautiful sunset. Furthermore, the starry sky afterward felt just like a planetarium. Being surrounded by stars in over 180 degrees was breathtaking. I believe this is one of the must-see views when visiting the Big Island. Also, the guides from Masashi Nature School are all unique and fun, so I highly recommend them!

富士山より高いマウナケア。出発前ホテルから見たら山頂に厚い雲がかかっていたので綺麗に見えるか不安でした。道中、ガイドのステファンさん(見た目からは想像付かない程日本語ペラペラ)が色々な楽しいをしてくれたので休憩所のオニヅカビジターセンターまであっという間に付きました。ここで久しぶりの日本食だったお弁当と味噌汁が美味しく、体に染み渡りました。体を慣らした所でいざ山頂へ。ガードレールもないすごい砂利道！どんどん標高も上がっていくので山頂に着く頃には人生初の高山病に・・これではせっかくのツアーも楽しめないかと思いましたが、いざ雲に沈んでいく夕日を見たら高山病を忘れるくらい感動しました！こんな綺麗な夕日は見た事がありません。更に、その後の星空はプラネタリウムそのままという感じでした。180度以上を星に囲まれているのでそれ以上かもしれません。ハワイ島に来たら絶対に外せない絶景のひとつだと思います。そしてマサシネイチャースクールのガイドさんは皆さん個性があって楽しいのでお勧めです♪

I was looking forward to participating as it was recommended by those around me! However, unfortunately, due to the snow, I was unable to see both the sunset and the starry sky… The guide mentioned that it’s rare not to see either, and they searched for a spot where we could see the stars until the very last moment, showing a determination not to give up! However, since I was really looking forward to it, it was very disappointing and shocking that I couldn’t see either after spending both time and money (>_<).

I think it would help change the mood a bit if, in such cases, you could provide photos of the sunset and starry sky as a gift♪ The photos are really well taken☆ Please consider this for the future! If there’s another opportunity, I would definitely like to try again!

もしまた来ることが出来たら、迷わずこちらでお願いしたいと思います。
長いツアーで子供も飽きるかなと思っていましたが、終始楽しい会話であっという間に解散時間でした。
それと、防寒具も他社さんに比べて暖かいと思います。

This year's annual family trip to Hawaii was our third visit to the Big Island. We invited our friends, a couple who were visiting Hawaii for the first time, so we wanted to make it a memorable experience! We booked Masashi's tour again, as we always do for Mauna Kea. This being our third time using his services, I was amazed at how much it has evolved each time. About five years ago, the tour provided a disposable packed lunch, but this time we received a plastic lunch box with plastic chopsticks like those found in a cafeteria. I was impressed by the environmentally friendly evolution. The warm miso soup and hot chocolate were also gentle on the body. Of course, our friends were thrilled and exclaimed that they would definitely come back again!

A 5-night, 7-day tour of the Big Island in late March. This was the tour I was most looking forward to on my first trip to Hawaii. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the sunset, but the starry sky was amazing. Above all, the guides, a Japanese person and an American (?), were very kind and wonderful people. They were among the friendliest I've encountered in past overseas tours, and they even provided oxygen for my son when he felt a bit unwell, showing concern until the very end. It truly became a great memory. I definitely want to see the sunset next time. Until we meet again on the Big Island!

Despite the clear blue sky with not a cloud in sight, I was a bit disappointed to hear that the gate to the summit was closed. However, when the gate finally opened just before sunset, my spirits were already lifted. As we welcomed the sunset, I was even more moved by the breathtaking scenery! And then… I lost track of time under the starry sky filled with shooting stars, despite the strong winds and bitter cold. The participants shared constellations with us, and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" for my husband, who would be celebrating his birthday two days later, creating unforgettable memories for us in our 60s. The tour was incredibly satisfying thanks to the staff's efforts in explaining the scenery on the way to the summit, stopping at the lava flow for photos, providing warm bento boxes, and bringing in telescopes for observing Jupiter. The service was exceptional! I also appreciated the ability to download the photos taken by the staff later. Thank you, Konno-san!

雲ひとつない快晴なのに山頂行きのゲートがクローズとのこと。少しがっかりした分、ゲートが日没ギリギリに開いた時には既に気分が高揚です。サンセットを迎えて、その光景にさらに感動！そして…降るような星空と流れ星に、強風と酷寒にもかかわらず時を忘れてしまいました。参加者の星座を教えていただいたり、二日後に誕生を迎える夫のために皆さんで「ハッピー・バースデー」を歌ってくださったりと、６０代の私たちに、忘れがたい思い出が増えました。山頂に向かう途中の風景の説明や溶岩流での下車、写真撮影、温かいお弁当、天体望遠鏡を持ち込んでの木星観察…とスタッフが全力で頑張って「おもてなし」をしてくださった事で大満足のツァーとなりました。スタッフが撮ってくれた写真を後日にダウンロード出来るのも嬉しいサービスです。今野さんありがとう！

We used this service for our honeymoon. On the day of our visit, the gates were closed due to strong winds, so we watched the sunset from a hill near the Onizuka Center. After that, we moved to a different location for stargazing. Since it was a new moon, the night sky was filled with countless stars, which was truly moving. Additionally, they took shots that I couldn't capture myself, and the fact that we could download them after the tour was also appealing.

Most importantly, thanks to our guide, Macchan, who kept the atmosphere lively with fun talks, we were able to forget the negative aspect of not being able to reach the summit and had a wonderful time. The cute hats they provided are also a lovely memory. Next time I visit the Big Island, I will definitely use Nature School again.

I participated in a morning dolphin snorkeling tour and then joined the Mauna Kea summit tour. Despite the tight schedule for pickup, they made sure we arrived on time. The beauty of the sunset from 4,200 meters is unforgettable. Even with the half-moon's light, I was able to see the winter diamond stars clearly. More than that, our guide, Ha, provided exceptional service. The convenient information about the Big Island was incredibly helpful for my future travels. They took many photos of us in various poses, and I think it's a wonderful service that the photos can be downloaded for free. Even though I had an upset stomach, I recovered with a delicious Japanese bento. On the way back, they kindly stopped at a supermarket, thinking I might need a late-night snack. Thank you very much. If I have the chance to go to the Big Island again, I would love to join the Mauna Kea summit tour once more, preferably on a new moon day.

I wanted to see the sunset and starry sky from the summit of Mauna Kea to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday, but all the sunset tours were fully booked. Just when I was about to give up, I found this site offering a starry sky and sunrise tour, and only Masashi Nature School had availability, so I joined immediately. With guidance from Masashi, who is not the president, we had a clear explanation of the starry sky using a laser pointer at the Onizuka Visitor Center, and we were able to see Saturn through a telescope (we could see the rings!). I was thrilled because my own camera couldn't capture the stars. The starry sky is truly beautiful—it's so stunning that words and photos can't do it justice. After enjoying warm drinks and sandwiches, we all climbed a nearby hill to watch the sunrise. I was moved by the sunrise emerging from the white sea of clouds. Although the road to the summit of Mauna Kea was closed due to snow, I was able to see the snow-covered Mauna Kea from the hill, which became a wonderful memory. For cold weather preparation, they provided thick jackets, pants, gloves, and hats, but since I'm sensitive to the cold, I wore two layers of Heattech, a fleece, a down jacket, a jumper, leggings, ski socks, and pants, which was just right. I was worried about altitude sickness, but thanks to Masashi's thoughtful care, we all had no issues, as we stopped to see the stars along the way and were allowed to take a nap near the visitor center. 母の還暦祝でマウナケア山頂からの夕日＆星空が見たかったのですが、夕日のツアーはどこも一杯で取れず諦めていたらこちらのサイトで星空＆朝日のツアーが、しかもマサシネイチャスクールさんだけ空いており即参加。社長さんではない方のマサシさんの案内でオニヅカビジターセンター側でレーザーポインターを用いて分かりやすい星空の説明と望遠鏡を使って土星(輪が見えました！)を見せて頂いたり、写真を撮って頂きました。持参したカメラでは星空が取れなかったので嬉しかったです☆星空は本当に綺麗です。写真や言葉では表現出来ないくらい綺麗です。温かい飲み物とサンドウィッチを頂いた後、近くの丘に全員で登り朝日を見ることが出来ました。白い雲海から出てくる朝日に感動しました。マウナケアは積雪でロードがクローズしており山頂からの朝日は見れませんでしたが、丘から雪で真っ白なマウナケアも見る事が出来たのでそれはそれで良い思い出になりました。防寒対策ですが、分厚い上着とズボン、手袋や帽子まで貸して頂けますが、寒がりなので中にヒートテック２枚、フリース、ダウン、ジャンバー、スパッツ、スキー用靴下、ズボンをはいて丁度良いくらいでした。心配していた高山病も途中車を降りて星空を見せて頂いたり、ビジターセンター近くまでは仮眠させて下さったりとマサシさんの気配りで全員問題ありませんでした。ハワイ島からホノルルまでの飛行機で席が隣だったOPツアー会社の方が夕日ツアーも良いと話されていたので次回は夕日＆星空ツアーに参加したいと思います。

He mentioned that he studied hard for this tour, focusing on constellations and photography. While it's expected for a guide to study constellations, his photography skills were a huge help. He took a two-shot photo of my wife and me with Orion in the background and uploaded it online. My friend, who had climbed to the summit the day before, was really envious of this service. At the end of January, I participated in a tour for my honeymoon. The staff, tour content, and meals were all extremely satisfying, just as the reviews said. Usually, I purchase photos, but the staff took pictures with their own DSLR camera, which we could download for free online, so that was great. I will definitely join again when I visit the Big Island. Thank you very much.

The admired Subaru Observatory, with the sunset sinking into the sea of clouds and the starry sky, was wonderful. I hadn't considered the moon phase, so the moon was dazzling, but it looked beautiful in a different way than usual.

Along the way, we combined with another group, and two drivers/guides prepared and explained everything, allowing us to spend our time efficiently.

The miso soup we had at the Onizuka Center was unexpectedly served in a bowl, but it was delicious. On the way back from the Big Island, I visited the Onizuka Museum next to the airport, as recommended. Thank you, Ha-kun!!

The deciding factor for this tour was that I couldn't find any other organizer that offered transportation to my hotel, but I am satisfied with the content, the guide, and the lunch.

月齢を考えていなかったので月が眩しかったですが、月もいつもと違って綺麗に見えます。

途中２台合同になり、２人のドライバー兼ガイドさんが準備と説明をしてくれて時間も無駄なく過ごすことが出来ました。

オニヅカセンターで頂いたお味噌汁、まさか、お椀で頂くとは思っていなかったですが美味しかったです。ハワイ島の帰りには教えてもらった空港脇のオニヅカ博物館に行ってきました。

今回のツアーの決め手は、宿泊先のホテルへの送迎がこちらの主催しか見つからなかったという消去法ですが、内容・ガイド・お弁当ともに満足しています。

Good organization but a rather long ride to the top. Stargazing was only so-so. I expected that we would see the stars through one of the observatories located at that top but instead, about 20 of us took turns looking through a kids reflective telescope. Not very exciting. Air is rare up there so be prepared for the possibility of altitude sickness.

We had a great guide Jim. His knowledge of Hawaiian history, plants and wildlife was great. When we were at the Summit with the large world telescope buildings and when we did the viewing of the stars he was excellent there as well.

The summit of Mauna Kea had breathtaking views and was very moving. I was glad to see the sunset and the starry sky beautifully.
