We participated as a family of four. There were also two couples, making a total of eight people. I think we were on the horses for just under two hours.

Everything was in English, but the staff was very friendly and explained the history of Waipi'o Valley in a way that was easy to understand.

The weather was nice, and riding horses in nature was very relaxing.

While the service wasn't overly luxurious, they took family photos from various angles, and even when there were delays or the line got mixed up, we were guided smoothly without feeling rushed, allowing us to enjoy the scenery with peace of mind.

The kids were very satisfied, so we would like to participate again.

The cat in the stable was cute.

至れり尽くせりのサービスではありませんが、家族での写真も色々な角度で撮ってくれましたし、列が乱れたり、遅れたりしても急かされる事なく、上手く誘導してもらえたので、安心して風景を楽しめました。

子供達も大満足だったので、また参加したいと思います。

I participated with my middle school daughter. Both of us lacked sufficient English skills, so there were many parts of the guide's explanations that we couldn't understand. They would answer our questions, but there wasn't much kindness or consideration shown. It was raining quite a bit, and it felt like we were just turning back on the same path, making the journey monotonous. The rain gear they provided was excellent, and we didn't get wet at all in the covered areas. I wonder if it would have felt nice if it had been sunny.

We only had one day on the big island and wanted to see as much as possible. This tour takes you all the way around with multiple, although brief stops and several locations. Could omit the coffee tasting and spend more time on the black beach or at the falls.

Our guide, Keith, was full of history, folk lore and traditional information which was a big bonus.
If you want history and a good whirlwind tour of the island, this tour is for you.
Of note, lunch was provided and this service has its own chef who prepares the meals. Very healthy sampling of the typical fare at area restaurants, however, when it’s served in lieu of a cold sandwich and a picturesque park, it suddenly becomes one of the best meals of the vacation.

I participated in the morning session. It took about an hour and a half from Kona to reach the meeting place. We drove to the stable in the canyon and chose our horses. The instructions were 100% in English, so I had to pick up on the reins and precautions somewhat intuitively (laughs). The horses are well-trained, and the instructors are positioned at the front and back of the line, so I didn't feel particularly anxious. However, some horses would stop to eat grass or drink water and act freely, so I think it's important to take the lead.

By the way, what I found personally helpful to bring was a windbreaker. Depending on the timing (late April), I was caught in a sudden downpour that required an umbrella for about 10 minutes during the ride. I was unsure if it would be a nuisance, but I tied it around my waist and was able to quickly put it on while on the horse to shield myself from the rain, which turned out to be a great decision! They might provide raincoats if it rains from the start, but if it starts raining during the ride, each person will need to handle it on their own! Everyone was using insect repellent spray as well.

The instructors were all kind, explaining plants along the way and taking photos, which made for great memories. It's not often you get the chance to ride through such magnificent nature, and I'm glad I participated. I would love to do it again if I come back to the Big Island. Lastly, after horseback riding, I had a malasada at Tex Drive In near Honokaa, which I also recommend.

コナから1時間半程かかって集合場所に到着。渓谷にある馬屋まで車で移動し馬を選んでもらいます。
説明は100%英語なので手綱操作や注意事項は何となく察する感じで(笑)
馬はよく調教されてますしインストラクターの方が隊列の前後にいるので特に不安は感じませんが、馬によっては止まって草を食べたり水を飲んだり好き勝手に行動するので主導権を握る事が大事だと思います。
　ちなみに個人的に持って行って役立ったのがウインドブレーカーでした。
時期(4月末)によるのかもしれませんが、乗馬の最中に10分程普通に傘がいるレベルの通り雨に降られました。邪魔になるかな？と思いつつ腰に巻いていきましたが馬上でさっと羽織って雨をしのぐことができて大正解でした！
最初から雨の時はカッパをかしてくれる？かもしれませんが、途中で降った場合は各自で対応になります！
後は虫よけスプレーをみんな使っていました。
　インストラクターの方はみんな親切で途中で植物の説明をしてくれたり、写真を撮ってくれていい思い出になりましたし、雄大な自然の中を馬で散歩できる機会なんてそうそうないし参加して良かったです。
またハワイ島に来たらやってみたいです。
最後に、乗馬の後はホノカア近くのテックスドライブインでマラサダを食べましたがこちらもオススメです。

I signed up for horseback riding even though I couldn't speak English, thinking I could manage somehow. However, I found that I could hardly understand the explanations in English, and I only grasped the instructions through gestures. After quickly choosing a horse, we were off. I was really anxious, but the horse was well-trained and moved forward to some extent. At first, I was just trying to stay on, but gradually I was able to take in the scenery. However, at one point, the horse started eating grass, and when I tried to overtake another horse, I got scolded and almost fell off, desperately hanging on.

As I got more comfortable, I learned to control the horse so that it wouldn't get too close to others, and I started to find it cute. The freshness of the valley and my first horseback riding experience were thrilling yet enjoyable. I believe I can ride better next time. The time felt quite long, and my backside started to hurt a bit, and my legs were trembling afterward. I didn't have the chance to drink water during the ride because I couldn't let go of the reins. I took pictures with a camera hanging around my neck, using one hand. A guide did take a picture for me once.

初めての乗馬で英語が出来ないのに何とかなるかと申込みました。やはり英語の説明がほとんど理解出来ず、説明している時のジェスチャーのみで理解し、すぐ馬を選ばれて乗り込んだら出発です。すごーく不安でしたがそこは調教済のお馬さん、ある程度は進んでくれます。はじめは乗ってるだけで精一杯でしたが徐々に景色を観る余裕が。でも途中で草を食べ始めたり、他の馬を追い抜こうとして怒られ、ヒヒーンとなり落ちそうになって一生懸命捕まりました。
慣れてくると他の馬に近づき過ぎないようにコントロール出来るようになったりするので可愛く思えてきます。渓谷の清々しさと初めての乗馬はハラハラしつつ楽しかったです。次はもっと上手く乗れるはず。時間はけっこう長く感じました。少しお尻が痛くなり、終わった後は足もプルプルしました。手を離す余裕がなく途中で水を飲むことは私はありませんでした。写真も首にかけたカメラで片手で適当に撮る感じでした。一度ガイドさんが撮ってくれましたが。

I went with my 10-year-old child, and we had a great time without any issues. There were two cheerful female guides who explained everything while we leisurely walked through the mountains for a full hour and a half. The dog at the reception leading the way was also very cute. It rained quite a bit along the way, but that felt nice in its own way. My experienced mother mentioned that she wanted to run at times, but she seemed very satisfied overall. Speaking a little English was not a problem at all.

I experienced horseback riding for the first time this time. I was worried about whether I could ride well, but they provided a proper explanation beforehand, and I was able to enjoy it until the end.

I don't speak much English, but they explained things clearly, and there are important explanations in Japanese as well, so I think it's fine for those who only understand Japanese.

I was able to fully enjoy the nature of Waipi'o Valley and had the precious experience of crossing a river on horseback.

Of course, the Big Island has wonderful beaches, Kilauea, and Mauna Kea, but I truly recommend this horseback riding tour as well!

今回初めて乗馬を体験しました。上手く乗れるかどうか不安でしたが、先にちゃんと説明してくれて最後まで楽しむことが出来ました。

Our tour was AMAZING!! Our tour driver was Nathan or Nate. He was awsome!!
They pick you up at your hotel, which is super convenient! The tour group can fit up to 12 people. So it is nice and small. Our group was super fun and Nate was very informative and talked to us about everything and anything he could! The van is nice and clean and not to mention Eco friendly! It rained alittle, and they had raincoats for everyone just in case.They provide bento lunch for everyone. We actually had 2 vegans in our group and Nate was very caring and took them to a nearby grocery store, so they could pick up a few things to eat since they could not eat much from the bento. Nate not only took us to the places mentioned, but he also drove by a few other places he thought our group would like! He was AMAZING!! This tour was so much fun, the sights were beautiful and very informative!

The owners were very informative, having both grown up in Waipio. The tour takes you along their property and a small portion of private property outside of public access areas. It was great to learn so much info about Waipio! The owners have the answers to all your questions and have great stories to share about their time there. In terms of scenery, the only thing I wish was that the horseback tour took you to see more than just their taro farm below and the small patch we traveled by horseback. Overall the interactions with the owners make this a great choice for your horseback tour! They are as authentic as you can get to the Waipio, Hawaiian culture!

The ride in van to the valley, then back to the top were outstanding as well as horseback ride. Guide was a great driver on the narrow treacherous roads. Horseback ride wonderful, guides informative, horses gentle. Great instructions given on how to "drive" a horse. I've never felt so comfortable on a horse before. Mine was Holoholo, a handsome palamino. He had personality and would nip ar other horses. I could identify with him. I have personality as well. Scenery beautifal. I loved the ride so much that I went back for a second ride a week later.Also saw many wild horses too.
.I would recommend this activity to anyone and everyone.

I signed up at my partner's strong request, and since it was quite expensive, I participated without much enthusiasm, but it turned out to be more enjoyable than I expected.
We started with a brief lecture before setting off. The wonderful scenery seen from the back of the horse was, of course, much higher than my usual view, which made it enjoyable.
The child of the foreign family accompanying us was around elementary school age, and they had a great time.
We splashed through the flowing river, and at one point, we had trouble with a horse that stopped to eat grass and wouldn’t move at all, but looking back, that became a fun memory.

連れ合いのたっての希望で申し込んだが、それなりに高額なので、気乗りせずに参加したが、思ったより楽しかった。
最初に簡単なレクチャーがあって出発。馬の背から見る素晴らしい風景は、当然ながら普段よりずっと視線が高いので楽しめた。
同行の外国人の親子連れの子供は小学生ぐらいだったが、十分楽しんでいた。

Since I had never ridden a horse before, both my children (a fourth grader and a third-year middle school student) and I were very anxious. However, after listening to the instructions and getting on the horse, we quickly got the hang of it and started to enjoy ourselves. There were some unexpected moments, like when the horse started eating grass or when it almost got into a fight with the horse in front of it, but those became fun memories as well. The horses for the kids were honest and serious, so they managed to ride them without any issues. The mountain scenery was beautiful, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience.

乗馬をしたことがなかったので、私も子供たち(小４と中３)もとても不安でしたが、説明を聞いてから馬に乗ってみると、すんなりと進んでいくので、だんだんと慣れて、楽しくなってきました。途中で草を食べてしまったり、前の馬にくっついてしまってけんかになりかけたり、、とハプニングもありましたが、それもまた、楽しい思い出となりました。子供たちの馬は、素直で真面目な馬だったので、問題なく、乗りこなしていました。山の風景がとても素敵で、最高に良い経験でした。

This tour was life changing for me! Such an awesome experience to really see the island and have someone guide you through it so you really understand what you're seeing and the history behind it.

Tour guide was Chris who was excellent. He has a real gift for this, and you can tell he is truly passionate and loves what he does. Makes the tour feel more real and less like show and tell or reading from a script. 10/10 highly recommended tour.

Tour provides you with all the comforts you need for the day so you're never hungry, cold, or unsure of where a clean bathroom is. Even had plugs for you to charge your phone although I had a portable charger with me that day which I recommend for any trip.

Our tour included three couples from the mainland besides my husband and me. There was also a Japanese tour with a guide fluent in Japanese at the same meeting time, but the instructions and riding techniques were explained so thoroughly that we had no trouble at all with the English tour.
I was unsure about wearing a helmet. If you're worried, you can wear one, but the other couples weren't wearing helmets, so we decided not to. All the horses were well-trained (though some were quite greedy and tended to wander off), so it was fine without a helmet.
There was a bag available at the stable that you could borrow for free. You can put drinks, smartphones, and digital cameras in it. One person on the same tour attached a handle to their digital camera and took lots of photos while riding. I thought it would be a hassle to carry a selfie stick, so I just took my smartphone, but I was nervous about dropping it while taking pictures. I wished I had attached it to the selfie stick.
We also rode through the beautiful nature along the river, soaking in plenty of negative ions.
It was an afternoon tour, and it drizzled a bit on the way, but we were lucky that it didn't rain at Waipi'o! I would love to go horseback riding again when I visit the Big Island.

迷ったのはヘルメットの着用。心配なら着用、他のカップルは着用なしだったので着用なしで。馬はどの子も良く調教されてるので（一部かなり食いしん坊で寄り道の多い子もいましたが）ヘルメットなしでも大丈夫でした。
馬屋に蔵につけるバッグがあり、無料で借りれます。
飲み物やスマホ、デジカメなど入れておくことができます。同じツアーの方がデジカメにハンドルをつけて乗馬しながらバシバシ写真を撮ってました。私は荷物になるかとスマホの自撮り棒を外してスマホのみ持って行きましたが、落としそうでハラハラしながら撮影してました。自撮り棒につけていけば良かったなと思いました。
大自然の中川の中も進んで行きます。マイナスイオンをたっぷり浴びてきました。
午後からのツアーで、行く途中パラパラと雨が降っていましたが、ワイピオは雨が降らなくてラッキーでした！またハワイ島に行った時には乗馬したいです。

It was my first experience riding a horse, but I got used to it in about 30 minutes. The guide was flexible and provided support throughout the ride. Since we walked along narrow paths in the valley, the horse stopped to drink water and eat grass along the way, and we even passed by cars, which helped me improve my reins handling. They also took some great photos.

The meeting point was quite far and hard to find. I was a bit nervous during the journey, but somehow I understood the pickup fee.

乗馬初体験でしたが30分ほどで慣れてきました。
ガイドの方が前後について、臨機応変にサポートしてくれました。渓谷の細い道を歩くので途中で馬が水を飲んだり草を食べたり、途中で車とすれ違うことも、おかげで手綱さばきも上手くなりました。いい写真も撮ってくれました。

This tour is very informative. You get to see black sand, volcanoes, waterfalls, and more. Our driver/guide was excellent.
There was more walking than indicated on the website, including climbing lots of stairs. Therefore I was not able to see some of the sites. But if you don't have any mobility issues, I recommend this tour.

It takes a long time to get on the horse. We went down the valley in a four-wheel drive vehicle, and it was quite an old car! The engine warning light was on, which was a bit scary.
The horses are well-trained, so it's safe. Even beginners will be fine.
Also, you can't go to the bathroom for about three hours. Just a heads up. Plus, the bathroom you can use before that is really dirty!

The guys were awesome. Made it fun. The horses were strong and healthy. The scenery was breathtaking, green and lush. We would have liked to ride the horses through the waterfalls, same price, but this was good too. There were wild horses and donkey that let you pet them. Overall our experiences was great. Thank you for making the day fun.

In the early morning, there was heavy rain, and I thought we might be riding in the rain, but fortunately, the weather cleared up. We drove down to the valley, but the road was steep and narrow. Arriving there was a bit nerve-wracking, but we made it. We also got to see the waterfall that I wanted to see along the way. The horseback riding tour began, and our two cute dogs joined us as well. We crossed a river along the way, which was very refreshing. However, the horse had to pee, poop, and eat grass at various points. At the end, the guide took some photos for us.

朝方に大雨が降り、雨の中での乗馬かなと思いましたが、運良く天気が回復。車で谷まで降りていきますが急坂で細い道。ちょっとビビりながらも到着。途中見たかった滝も見えました。馬に乗りツアー開始。飼っているかわいい犬２匹もいっしょについて来ました。途中川を渡ったりとても気分爽快です。でも馬は途中でおしっこ、うんこ、草を食べるなどいろいろあります。最後にガイドさんが写真を撮ってくれます。

I reserved the 9 AM session, and the confirmation email I received the day before also stated 9 AM. I left early to make sure I would arrive on time, but when I got there on the day, I found out that it had been changed to the 12:30 PM session without my knowledge. I was told that the 9 AM session was fully booked, so I had no choice but to kill time. The staff members were all very pleasant and apologized, but it seems best to directly confirm again before the day.

We advance through the canyon in formation. At first, I was nervous, but once we started walking, I could freely control my horse with the reins and my legs.
