This is my seventh time in Hawaii. Although I had tried to challenge myself several times in the past, the timing never worked out, and this time I finally got to do it!

On the first day after arriving in Hawaii, I took an evening lesson to combat jet lag, and the weather and waves were perfect, allowing me to stand up from the very first try. The two hours flew by, and it was so much fun that I booked another lesson for the day before my return.

However, the second time was on a day with strong winds, which made it a bit challenging. For beginners, it might be better to avoid days with strong winds for easier riding.

Since I had experience with wakeboarding and snowboarding, I thought I would be able to stand up easily. It was a group session, but that day there were few people, so it ended up being just me and the coach (lucky!). We watched a video on the basics, and then headed out to the ocean! We rented rash guards and aqua shoes at the shop. It was a group lesson, but during our time slot, there were only five of us: our family and one other Korean woman in her 30s, with two staff members assisting us. We learned how to ride the waves while watching a video in the shop. After that, we moved to the beach and practiced the motions of riding the waves on the sand multiple times together. Then it was time to hit the ocean! Paddling was really tough, but both my mother and I managed to get out. The waves in Waikiki in March were quite gentle, suitable for beginners. In the summer, the waves get bigger, so it's advised not to go too far out. Because the waves were calm, it seemed impossible to ride them without paddling strongly, and when the waves came, the staff would give us a push. That helped us catch the waves! My husband and I were able to stand on the board for about five times, quite long. My mother, in her late 50s, also tried to stand several times and fell off the board, but she managed to stand for two longer periods and seemed to have a lot of fun! I participated with a friend. We were picked up by car from the hotel and gathered at the office near the beach for a short lecture while watching a video, then headed to the beach for a surfing experience. There are lockers available for personal belongings. When I asked the staff if there was a security box, they lent me a key that could be attached to the locker. I put my passport and wallet there without any issues.

I brought a rash guard just in case, but there were plenty available for rent, and my friend borrowed one without any problems. I was worried about not understanding English, but they provided an instructor who spoke Japanese, so there were no language issues.

There were five people in the group, and some participants were there alone. Once we got into the water to start surfing, it was a cycle of getting on the surfboard, being swept close to the shore, paddling out, and getting back on the board, so I think being alone wouldn’t be a problem.

As others have mentioned, you can generally ride the waves. Let's try to enjoy as much as we can within the time! One thing to be cautious about is the rocks and coral under the water. I injured my foot relatively early on, but I continued without worrying too much.

Even if you get hurt, there are first aid supplies at the office, and I used them as well. This became my best memory of my stay in Hawaii. Thank you very much!

英語がわからず不安でしたが、日本語が話せるインストラクターの方をわざわざつけていただき、言葉の問題はありませんでした。
グループは5人で、1人で参加している方もいました。実際、海に出てサーフィンに乗り出すと、サーフィン乗る→岸付近に流される→沖までパドリング→サーフィン乗るの繰り返しなので、1人でも気にならないと思います。
あとは他の方の体験にあるように、基本的に乗れます。時間内で出来るだけトライして楽しみましょう^_^
一点だけ、海面下にある、岩やサンゴには気をつけましょう。私も足を割と序盤に怪我しました。気にせず続けましたが。
怪我しても応急処置用品は事務所にあり、私も使わせてもらいました。

I walked to Waikiki Beach to ensure I wouldn't be late for the meeting time, and I was immediately impressed by the wonderful location!

With my excitement building, the lesson began with a one-on-one session with an American trainer. He mixed in some broken Japanese and gave us simple explanations on the beach before we quickly grabbed our surfboards and headed to the ocean. Before I knew it, we started practicing standing on the board, following the American style of teaching.

Despite some failures and being guided by the trainer, I managed to stand up on the board. A photographer also entered the water and captured amazing footage, making the dream-like experience pass by in no time.

日本語がわかるかたは韓国の方が少し出来る感じでしたが、皆さん優しくて子供も私も立てて乗れて楽しかったです。
パドリングも疲れたら、ずっと引っ張って波まで連れていってくれました。
ただ、残念なのは写真が一枚もなかった事かな。
後、ハンズさんは一体誰なのか、いないのかよくわからないまま若いお兄ちゃん達が教えてくれました。
