My wife, 11 month old daughter, and boarded the Star of Honolulu, on the One Star package. The night started with a Mai Tai, which was quite strong (coming as a surprise to me as in my experience, “welcome drinks” tend to be very watered down), and we were taken to our table with our appetizers ready and waiting for us. The food was fantastic! I’m going to be honest; I had low expectations for the food. All you can eat crab on a ship, generally does not mean “high quality” to me. And boy was I proven wrong. The crab especially was very tasty, and my wife and I definitely took advantage of the “all you can eat” description. The show was also very fun to watch, with examples of dances of different styles from around Polynesia. The service from our waiter, Chad, was excellent as well: my water was never empty, empty plates were taken as soon as I was finished, and the crab kept coming. I’ve already suggested the Star of Honolulu to family members for when they visit.

I participated in a dinner with all-you-can-eat steak and crab. We departed in the evening and were able to see the sun setting over the ocean. I wasn't expecting much from the food, but the crab was incredibly delicious. Whenever our plates were empty, they kept bringing more, and I ended up very full. Lastly, it was fun to dance with everyone at the venue!

This is my approximately 30th time in Hawaii. I believe this is my 7th sunset cruise.

Recently, I have been participating in the Honolulu Marathon consecutively, bringing new people each year, and I always include a visit to Pearl Harbor and the sunset cruise.

Unfortunately, this time felt like a lackluster cruise. I think it had to do with our seating arrangement. We were seated in a group of six in a central area, and besides the seven of us in our 70s, there were two couples of newlyweds from abroad. No matter what we said, there was little response, and it didn't have the lively atmosphere we usually enjoy with the whole table. I wish they would consider age demographics when assigning seats.

Also, I was expecting lobster, but it turned out to be snow crab. (I had promoted it to my friends beforehand.)

But I will probably board again next year.

The staff were very considerate, giving balloons and candy to keep the kids entertained, and they really enjoyed themselves. It seemed like there were many honeymooners around, but I think it would have been nice to have a bit more space between the seats. There was the usual photo session on board, and since we rarely have the chance to take family photos, we decided to purchase them as the kids looked great. It was a wonderful keepsake. I was satisfied from the moment we set sail! The food was at a level that met my expectations, and above all, the show was wonderful. The staff's attention to detail was very pleasant. You could really feel that each staff member was trying to entertain us.

While it's a classic choice, I think this cruise is highly recommended for the last night.

However, I couldn't help but be disappointed by the attire and footwear of some other passengers. Although there isn't a specific dress code, I wish they would avoid wearing sandals... it really takes away from the experience.

This cruise was so much fun! We really enjoyed the crablegs, and the Mai Tai's are the best in Waikiki! They really get you involved by getting you up to dance and sing! It was my wedding night, so they sang the Hawaiian Wedding Song to me and my new hubby, and the next day was my birthday so they also sang Happy Birthday to me! It was a great, fun, romantic activity, and I would definitely do it again!

About 20 years ago, I boarded a ship when I went to Hawaii, but I didn't remember much. However, after using the service again after a long time, both my wife and I were very satisfied. The crew made us feel at home, the champagne was delicious, and both the chicken and crab dishes were great. The waves were calm as well. The best part was when, just before disembarking, the passengers and crew danced to YMCA together. It was a lot of fun.
