My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful time on this catamaran, with some good food sitting down on nets while sailing through the Waikiki waterfront. We didn't even go on Friday which includes the fireworks and still think it was more than worth it. Will definitely do it again if I am back in Hawaii in the future.

Makani Dinner Cruise exceeded our expectations!

We originally tried to book the Star Line dinner cruise, but it was booked up. I'm glad we decided to book the Makani dinner cruise. It exceeded all of our expectations! The boat wasn't very big, but was able to accommodate up to 65 people.
The crew were very welcoming and willing to help with anything we needed during our ride. They really made the whole experience a lot more personable than we would have gotten if we booked the Star Cruise.
The food was a small buffet style selection. It was all you can eat, and was excellent! They don't have an open bar, but there's one free drink included in your purchase. The bartender Chris was a real cool guy. Probably the most popular guy on the boat. I can't seem to put my finger on why lol.
To cap the night off the fireworks over the water were amazing! To see Waikiki lit up and glaring with fireworks was the highlight for me. I would definitely recommend wearing a light jacket, possibly even some pants. It gets extremely windy during the ride!
If you're considering doing the dinner cruise you can't go wrong with the Makani!

In December, it was a bit chilly, but I was able to slowly enjoy the sunset sinking on the horizon! Also, I was surprised that the captain spoke Japanese so well! I was a bit anxious since there were few Japanese participants, but thanks to that, I was able to have fun! Luckily, I encountered whales and dolphins! It was a wonderful cruising experience.

I feel like overall this was a good experience. The original booking was cancelled due to weather, but they were great about rescheduling (or cancelling altogether if we wanted) since it was weather. We went with another couple and were glad that we did. However, we did this more as a surprise and didn't have as much info as we should have (like someone not being great on boats). Despite that it was a fun experience. Like many things, it is what you make of it. The food was fine and the drinks were apparently good (I can only speak for the ones I tried but I enjoyed them). Once you get out on the water you kind of have to make your own activities since you are on a boat and that's the whole point of the experience.

If you want to have an enjoyable time on a boat, its a great experience, but if you come hoping to be entertained or something then you will be disappointed. For the price its not terrible (with the rebate). Going with a positive mindset makes for a good time. Good company also helps.

Relaxing, Chill, Perfect!

A friend and I both took our ladies on a surprise sunset cruise with Makani Catamaran and it was fantastic. It was definitely one of those experiences that was so much fun time flew right by.

The great thing about this catamaran cruise is that you launch out of Kewalo Basin on a slip, not off of a beach like some Waikiki cruises. This means that if you want you can really dress however you like- shoes, jeans, dresses.

Once you get on the boat, you're introduced to the crew and they go through the obligatory house-keeping topics: Crew introductions, location of bathrooms, safety items, where you can go on the boat, etc. Then they go over how food and drinks work.

Food for us was a buffet of five items: Veggie/tofu wraps, rice, potatoes, shoyu(soy sauce) and ginger chicken- which was the best in my opinion, and beef stir fry. Each item had one tray's worth of food, which was easily enough to satisfy everyone on board, although I don't believe there were any left overs. I've read reviews stating the food was a little nicer than Panda's Express, and that seems like a very fair statement.

The cruise came with one free drink. On the boat non-alcoholic drinks are $2 and alcoholic drinks are $6, and the more alcoholic ones like Long Island Iced Teas are $8. You can buy a commemorative cup for $8 which holds about twice as much as the disposable cups you would get otherwise. Our bartender made good recommendations based on what flavors I told him we were looking for.

The best part is just being out at sea with the people you're with. Aside from the crew instructions at the beginning, it's very hands-off. You just wander around the ship enjoying your company and great views. Although it can get a little windy, it's quiet enough that you can converse at a normal volume easily. If you get cold you can spend a few minutes on the inside of the boat to warm up a bit.

If this is within your budget, I highly recommend it. It's simple, clean, and fun.

I went sailing around Waikiki on the yacht Makani! I had been on several dinner cruises with the Star of Honolulu, but since it's a large ship, I didn't really feel like I was on the ocean. However, the Makani is much closer to the water, which gives you a real sense of being at sea. Once we got out a bit, it became a quiet and comfortable sailing experience.

Additionally, I had a surprise encounter with a whale! It was just a fleeting moment, so I couldn't capture it on camera, but it was truly moving to see it in such a setting. I definitely want to board again next time.

I had some waiting time before departure, so I was able to relax and take photos. There was a diverse crowd, including people from Europe and Asia. We were the only Japanese people there. I didn't fully understand the explanations in English, but I managed to grasp the gist of it!

The attire ranged from luxurious outfits to people in shorts and sandals, so there didn't seem to be a dress code. I tend to get seasick, so I didn't eat anything, and it was quite cold at the end of November, but I stayed outside the whole time. When my companion tried to get a refill, the meat was gone, but it seemed there were still plenty of potatoes left. The cookies they distributed were delicious.

The staff were kind, taking photos for us and being very attentive. It was disappointing that we couldn't see the orange sunset >_<. However, I was happy to see a small dolphin! I was quite satisfied with the views of Diamond Head and the hotel nightscape. I recommend this tour for active individuals.

I think everyone feels the same way, but before leaving for Japan, I imagined "blue seas and skies" and planned fun optional tours. However, Hawaii isn't always sunny! Especially for ocean activities, the weather can lead to either amazing memories or disappointing results.

The sunset dinner cruise I booked this time had bad weather, with cloudy skies throughout, so I didn't have high expectations... but the result was very good! The gently rocking boat, combined with the friendliness of the crew, created a very pleasant atmosphere.

Seeing the lights of the hotels in Waikiki from the sea and a pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat was wonderful. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the sunset, but it became a great memory that you can't experience on land. I would love to participate again next time, on a sunny day!

We participated as a couple. We arrived 15 minutes late for the pickup. Naturally, there was no sign of embarrassment, and we were taken to the yacht harbor. Well, I suppose we can say this is the pace of a tropical country. However, it can be a bit unsettling if you're unsure whether you're in the right place.

The cruise was on a medium-sized boat. It had a large sail, so I guess it falls into the category of a yacht. When we think of a cruise, we often imagine a luxury liner, but I believe any boat that sails on the sea can be considered a cruise in that sense. I was aware of this from other reviews, so it didn't particularly bother me, and the price was low, so it was to be expected. The wind we felt while cruising and the views we saw were fantastic. I would definitely want to use this service again. The boat had little rocking, and no one was feeling seasick. Also, we were lucky enough to see dolphins. However, it gets cold on the way back. Once the sun sets, it can be quite chilly, so it's necessary to prepare with a hoodie or something similar.

Regarding dinner, you simply take 5 or 6 types of side dishes onto your plate and eat them, so it's like a lunch plate. It's best not to have high expectations. You should come with the mindset of enjoying the cruise itself.

ディナーに関しては、5,6種類のおかず等を自分の皿にとってそれを食べるだけなので、ランチプレートのようなものです。あまり期待をしない方がいいです。あくまでも、クルーズのみを楽しみに来たと割りきるべきです。

When you think of Hawaii, you think of cruising, so I decided to participate. The boat was about the size of a cross between a cruiser and a yacht; however, if you are prone to seasickness, you should take motion sickness medication in advance, as there can be enough rocking to make you feel sick. I had a coupon for one free drink, but when I upgraded to a larger size, I was charged normally. All the staff were locals, so if you don't speak English, it can be difficult to understand these things. The food was light snacks, so that was a bit of a letdown. On the day of the cruise, there was also a rainbow, and the weather was nice, so overall, I was fairly satisfied.

Since I came all the way to Hawaii, I wanted to see the sunset from the ocean, so I booked this tour. It's a yacht rather than a large boat, so it sways more than I expected! I think it's better to be out on the deck and feel the wind rather than stay inside.

As soon as we set sail, drinks were served, and after a while, there was a buffet-style dinner. Although no one spoke Japanese, the staff was very friendly, so I didn't have any issues. We set sail at 5 PM, and by before 6 PM, the drinks and dinner were finished. I thought to myself, "Do I really have to stay in this sway for over an hour?" but on the way back, the swaying stopped due to the direction of the waves, and I was able to enjoy the much-anticipated sunset and relax.

It may depend on the day, but I think those who are not prone to seasickness will enjoy it even if it sways.

せっかくハワイに来たので海からのサンセットが見たくこちらのツアーを予約。
大型船ではなくヨットなので思っていた以上に揺れる！
室内にいるよりデッキに出て風に当たる方がいいと思います。
出航してすぐドリンクが提供され、しばらくしてバイキング形式のディナー。日本語は全く通じませんがスタッフはとてもフレンドリーで困ることはありませんでした。
17時に出航して18時前にはドリンクとディナーが終了、まだ１時間以上もこの揺れの中いるのかぁ、、と一瞬挫けそうになりましたが戻りは波の向き的に揺れがなくなり期待のサンセットを見たりのんびり過ごせました。
日にもよると思いますが揺れても大丈夫な船酔いに強い方は楽しめると思います。

Small Boat But BIG Surprises!

We scheduled our evening on the Prince Kuhio Sunset Cruise for our 26th Wedding Anniversary. It wasn't a large boat but I will tell you the Captain and the crew had big hearts and were full of BIG surprises.

We had a sumptuous dinner that was better than any meal I had had on the island. The chef should be commended. The food was served quickly and it was hot when you got it. The crew swiftly took your beverage orders and made sure you were happy. Their customer service was exemplary!

Then we were entertained to a hula show and a fire dance. The evening was capped off by a spectacular fireworks display from the shore.

This crew worked their tails off: they drove the shuttle buses, they served food and beverages, and they put on a show.

It was a magical night that I will never forget as long as I live! Thank you Prince Kuhio!

We took the cruise for my daughter's birthday and she said it was her best birthday ever. The music set the mood for a really fun night. The drinks were great and definitely not watered down! The food was really good and plenty of it! It was the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen. The staff was super friendly and fun. The fireworks at the end of the night was a perfect way to end an amazing evening. I wouldn't think twice about booking this again on our next visit to Hawaii, it was the highlight of our trip! Thank you!

This trip to Hawaii was the most fun! 今回のハワイでＮｏ1楽しかったです。

During my 7-day stay in Hawaii, I arranged various optional tours, but the sunset dinner cruise was the most memorable. The boat is a slightly larger catamaran yacht, so there was hardly any rocking, allowing us to enjoy the sunset in a calm atmosphere. In Hawaii, there are many Japanese tourists everywhere, and while there are tours with a 100% participation rate of Japanese people, this tour had a lower percentage of Japanese guests, which made it enjoyable to converse with multilingual tourists in English.

However, there are a couple of downsides:
1. Although it's called a buffet, it's not an all-you-can-eat experience. For example, there are restrictions like "two pieces per person." It means you can eat what you like, but only in specified quantities. Japanese people might associate buffet with all-you-can-eat, so this is something to be aware of.
2. At the check-in counter, Westerners were allowed to check in before the designated time, while Japanese guests were told to "wait until the time," which felt discriminatory. After persistent negotiation, I was finally allowed to check in, but for Japanese guests with limited English skills, they might end up feeling helpless. Since boarding is done in the order of check-in, securing your spot is very important.

7日間のハワイ滞在で、いろいろなオプショナルターを組みましたが、その中でもこのサンセット・ディナークルーズが一番の記念になりました。船はすこし大きめのカタマランヨットですので、ほとんど揺れがなく落ち着いてサンセットが楽しめました。ハワイはどこに行っても日本人が多く、参加率100％日本人のツアーもある中、このツアーは日本人率が低く、多言語の観光客と（英語で）お話をすることもできて楽しめます。

難点は、
①ビュフェとありますが、いわゆる食べ放題ではありません。たとえば「これは一人二個まで」などの制限があります。「好きなものを決まった分量まで食べてよいですよ」という意味です。日本人はビュフェ＝食べ放題というイメージでしょうから注意が必要です。
②チェックインカウンターでは、西洋人はチェックイン開始時間前に受付していながら、日本人は「時間までまて」と差別を受けました。しつこく交渉してやっと受付てもらえましたが、英語力のない日本人だと泣き寝入りでしょう。受付順に乗船して席を確保しますので、受付順は非常に重要です。

We had a wonderful time out on the Makani Catermeran this week. The crew was very friendly, funny and accomodating. The boat ride was also very smooth ( per the weather conditions ) and all of us looked like we had a great time. We never felt cramped, the boat was plenty large enough. Food was pretty good as well as the drinks!!! We stuffed our selves! One of the crew even fished as we sailed along, unfortunately nothing was caught this time out. The views of waikiki and diamond head were amazing! It was great to get to see the skyline from the ocean. The sunset was beautiful and was timed great on our way back! Thank you everyone at Makani Catameran!

The dinner cruise we participated in was completely different from any other dinner cruise we've been on. First, we were picked up at 4 PM, which felt early for a dinner cruise.

The boat was small with an open bottom, making it feel like it was on skis. On the day we went, we were the only Japanese guests, and since the staff couldn't speak Japanese, everything was in English, but that was fine.

As soon as we set sail, a buffet-style meal began. However, the selection was limited, and it wasn't really what you would call a dinner buffet. There were too few tables for everyone to eat at the same time. Up to that point, I thought this cruise was a bit disappointing, but I was surprised when we went out onto the deck. The waves were high that day, and the boat was moving at an incredible speed, riding over the waves like surfing, which was really thrilling. It felt like the boat itself was an attraction, and while I was scared it might capsize, I had a lot of fun. The other guests were also very excited.

There was a deck at the front of the boat where you could stand and get splashed with water. The front area had a net-like seating arrangement, allowing us to see the ocean below through the mesh. It was quite impressive. Instead of enjoying a meal on the dinner cruise, we found a different kind of enjoyment and were very satisfied. I recommend wearing casual clothes that you don't mind getting wet.

After the thrilling experience, we slowly moved towards Diamond Head, where we enjoyed a peaceful moment that was quite different from earlier. During sunset, we had a relaxing time and took many photos. The tour ended when the sun went down, so we returned earlier than on a typical dinner cruise. By the time we left, even though we couldn't communicate well, the Americans who were also on the cruise made an effort to communicate with us, which was enjoyable.

I wouldn't recommend this for those who want to enjoy a dinner, but for those who want to experience the thrill of the boat, it was an excellent cruise.

参加したディナークルーズは今まで参加したディナークルーズとは全く違いました。まず迎えに来てもらうのが16時。ディナークルーズにしては早いなって思いながらの参加でした。
船は小さく船底が開いている…船がスキー板をはいている感じです。参加した日は日本人は私たち夫婦だけでした。スタッフも日本語が話せないので全て英語でしたが大丈夫でした。
出航するとすぐにバイキング形式の食事が始まりました。食事と言っても品数は少なくてとてもディナーバイキングと呼べる料理ではありませんでした。テーブルも少なくて全員が一斉には食事出来ない席数です。ここまではこのクルージングはいまいちかと思っていましたがデッキへ出てびっくりしました。私が参加した日は波が高くて沖にすごいスピードで船が進んで行くので波乗りのように波を渡っていきそれはそれはすごい迫力でした。船そのものがアトラクションのようで転覆しないかとすごく怖かったけどすごく楽しかったです。外人さん達も大盛り上がりでした。船の先端にデッキがありそこに立つと水しぶきですごく濡れます。前方は網で編んだような座れるところになっていて下は海が網の目から見れます。すごい迫力です。ディナークルーズで食事を楽しむよりは違った楽しみ方で大満足でした。服は濡れてもいいようにカジュアルが良いと思います。アトラクションのようなスリルの後はゆっくり進んでダイヤモンドヘッドが見れて先ほどとは違った静かな時間が流れました。サンセットの時もゆったりした時間で写真もたくさん撮れました。日が沈むと終了のツアーなので通常のディナークルーズより帰りは早いです。帰る頃には言葉は通じないけど参加していたアメリカの人達が一生懸命コミュニケーションをとってくれて楽しかったです。ディナーを楽しみたい人にはあまりおすすめしませんが船の迫力を楽しみたい人には最高のクルージングでした。

Since I have a 6-month-old and a nearly 3-year-old, I thought a formal cruise might be too much, so I chose this option. However, both my mother in her 70s and I are prone to seasickness, so we took motion sickness medication. The boat rocked quite a bit, and while I took the full recommended dose and was on the verge of seasickness, my mother, who took half, ended up completely seasick. My husband and the kids, who usually don’t get seasick, were fine. After a while out at sea, the seasickness settled down, but those prone to it should be cautious.

The boat is small, and everyone was dressed casually, making for a relaxed cruising experience. There are no assigned seats, so you can sit wherever you like on a first-come, first-served basis. Hawaiian music played before departure, which really set the mood. After we set sail, ballads from artists like The Beatles filled the air, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The sunset was incredibly beautiful, and I was mesmerized by the pink-tinted sea. And then there was the green flash! I’m not entirely sure since it wasn’t a bright green, but the crew member shouted "green flash!" so I believe that’s what it was. The sunset, which shone brightly before fading away, left a strong impression.

The food was light snacks, but it was delicious. Even my 3-year-old ate well. Our family was the only one with kids; most of the participants were white. Since the kids behaved quietly, I don’t think we were looked at disapprovingly. A friendly woman in her 60s approached me while I was holding the baby, which made me happy.

As a side note, a fishing rod set up at the back of the boat got a hit, and we caught a fish about 60 cm long. It seemed to be very exciting for the 3-year-old boy.

船は小さく、参加者も皆ラフな服装なので、カジュアルに楽しめるクルージングです。席は決まっていないので、先着順に好きな席に座れます。出航前から、ハワイアンミュージックが流れており、ムードが高まりました。出航後はビートルズなどのバラード系の洋楽が流れ、雰囲気満点でした。
夕陽はとても美しく、ピンクに染まる海にうっとりでした。そしてグリーンフラッシュ！はっきりとした緑色ではなかったので自信はないですが、船員さんが「green flash!」と叫んだので,
きっとそうなのだと思っています。最後にピカッと光ったあとにスッと消えた夕陽はとても印象的でした。

ご飯は軽食ですが、美味しかったです。3歳の子も良く食べていました。
子連れは私たち家族だけで、ほとんどは白人でした。子供たちが大人しくしてくれていたので、白い目で見られることはなかったと思います。赤ちゃんを抱っこしていたら白人の60台くらいの女性からフレンドリーに話しかけられて嬉しかったです。
余談ですが、船尾にしかけた釣り竿がヒットし、60㎝くらいの魚を釣り上げていました。3歳の男の子にはとっても面白かったようでした。

The pickup was a bit confusing since other tours gathered at the same location, but I was relieved that we were picked up safely. After arriving, we waited a little before boarding. The boat was smaller than I expected. Right after boarding, there was an announcement about safety instructions in the dining area, but it was all in English. There were no other Japanese people besides us, which made me a bit worried, but I managed to understand most of it with some listening skills. They explained the locations of the life jackets and the restrooms. The meal was served buffet-style, with white rice, taro, spring rolls, beef and vegetable stir-fry, BBQ chicken, and boiled vegetables. There weren't many options, but since I was worried about seasickness, it was enough for me. We had a small child with us, but they didn't mind at all, and we were able to relax. The area with a net stretched over the water below was a lovely spot. We were blessed with good weather and enjoyed the dazzling sea before sunset, and we were very satisfied to see a beautiful sunset. The child seemed impressed and kept saying, "The sky is red!" Even the family members who were seasick felt better after watching the beautiful sunset! I’m really glad we participated. I highly recommend this tour!

到着後、少し待ってから乗船しました。
思っていたより小さな船でした。
乗り込んですぐに、船内の食事スペースで乗船の注意事項の案内がありましたが、全て英語です。
日本人は私達意外おらず、少し心配でしたが、多少のヒアリング力で大体分かりました。
ライフカードの場所、トイレの場所等の説明でした。
食事はビュッフェ形式です。
白米、タロ芋、春巻、ビーフと野菜炒め、BBQチキン、茹で野菜等がありました。
品数は多くはなかったですが、船酔いが心配であまり食べられなかったので十分でした。
小さい子連れでしたが、嫌がられる事もなく、安心して過ごせました。
水上を真下にネットが張ってあるスペースは素敵な場所でした。
天候にも恵まれ、サンセット前の眩しい海を堪能してから、キレイなサンセットをしっかり見られ大満足でした。
子どもも印象的だったようで、お空が赤！とずっと言っていました。
船酔いしていた家族も美しいサンセットを見ていたら船酔いも解消された！と大満足でした。
参加してとても良かったです。
オススメのツアーです！

We attended the dinner sunset cruise on Sunday September 10, 2017. Transportation is included at no additional cost. Our assigned time to ba at the pick up location was 3:40 for a 3:50 pick up. We were told to look for a black or silver Mercedes Sprinter Van. Many passed by with out stopping. As the time got later every van that flew past us just made us that more concerned that we may not get picked up. We were unstructured to call the Makani if there was any delay in transportation. When I called the recording said I was the third caller. When it finally said I was next and someone would be with me shortly, five minutes later it said they were experiencing high call volume and leave a message. I tried this a couple of times with no luck. Found out after the fact that they don't answer calls after hours so it does no good giving a number to customers. Around 4:10 a van came by. They had a small sign in the front window for Makani. The driver said he was just from a transportation company who gets called sometimes to pick up Makani guests. He received the call late which meant all the remaining guests would be that much later. We mad four stops on the way to the boat to pick up additional passengers and each was more upset than the previous. Makani should contact passenger and let them know that the transportation is running late or have someone answering the phone.

The weather was a little rainy but it was still. Ice to get out on the water. We still had a nice time and the sunset pics were okay. You can't control the weather. The food served was actually really good. Teriyaki chicken, rice, egg rolls, veggies, etc. cookies for dessert. Beers were $6. Other boats included alcohol for around the same price fare but didn't have availability last minute. When we saw the boats that we called which didn't have availability they looked over full. All in all it was a good experience.

Amazing experience

This cruise was incredible! My wife and I only had a few days in Waikiki and chose carefully how we wanted to spend our time. The cruise was definitely the highlight of our trip. The views were incredible, the staff was friendly, and the food was really good! If you're looking for a great photo op this is the place. It can be romantic, but also something fun to do with family or friends. The next time we are in Waikiki we will definitely take this sunset cruise.
