On July 19th, during our trip to Hawaii, my family and I (a party of 12) attended the Waikiki Luau with All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, Fire Dance & Rock-A-Hula. Unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing experiences of our trip.

From the start, the event felt more like a tourist trap than a cultural celebration. The performers wore plastic grass skirts and danced on astroturf, which cheapened the experience and made it feel like a stylized imitation rather than a tribute to Hawaiian tradition.

The buffet was just as underwhelming. The meats were dry and chewy, and several of us left our meals half-eaten. We all ended up searching for food elsewhere after the show.

When purchasing tickets, we noted that they included premier seating for the show—something we specifically chose so the younger members of our group could engage and see the performance clearly. However, we were seated near the back with no explanation. The seating appeared entirely random, and there was no effort to honor the premier designation.

The show itself was bizarre. It was supposedly a journey through Hawaiian music and culture, but the execution was confusing. While we expected an Elvis tribute, it felt like a full concert with song after song. Then came a Michael Jackson impersonator performing Thriller and several other full-length songs. We learned during the show that he once performed at Aloha Stadium, but the connection felt forced and irrelevant. A few of us dozed off, while others sat in disbelief trying to make sense of it.

The performance dragged on far too long. With a tighter runtime and focus on authentic Hawaiian culture, it could have been enjoyable. The fire dancer was the highlight, but came too late to redeem the evening.

Overall, this luau was inauthentic, overpriced, and not worth it. We wouldn’t recommend it.

I watched from the cheap seats at the back, but I could see everything and the atmosphere was perfect; it was amazing. It felt like watching Olympic gymnastics with perfect technique and an engaging structure, making the hour and a half fly by. On the first day of my trip, I was a bit drowsy before the 5:30 PM start, but once it began, I was wide awake and enjoyed it until the very end. I definitely want to see it again next time.

Since I hadn't booked many activities for this trip, I asked a local acquaintance for recommendations, and they mentioned that Cirque du Soleil, which just opened last year, is very popular. Although I hesitated a bit due to the cost, I decided to seize the opportunity and booked the best seats. From start to finish, this was the first show that truly engaged and entertained the audience. We watched from the center seat in the 9th row. Luckily, there were no other audience members on either side of us, so it felt like a couple's seat. Various performances unfold along the history of Hawaii. The stage isn't very large, but the performers also come out into the aisles, creating a dynamic experience that utilizes the entire theater. There were hilarious moments that involved audience participation, such as throwing large balloons into the crowd, and before we knew it, time flew by. Since it has just started, I recommend it to both first-timers and those who are familiar with Hawaii.

I always make it a point to see Cirque du Soleil when they perform in Tokyo, so I definitely wanted to see them in Hawaii as well. They used costumes and props from Hawaii, which added to the atmosphere.

There was a segment where a few audience members were picked to mimic dances and have fun, and this time was also very enjoyable.

The theater was small, but it was almost full. We had seats right in the middle, in the front row. There were five of us, and everyone had a great time.

I might be imagining it, but was the performance a bit shorter this time? I felt like it ended in about an hour and a half without any breaks.

I was satisfied.

シルクドソレイユが東京公演をする時は必ずみに行っていますので、ハワイでも是非とも思い見に行きました。ハワイの衣装や道具を使っていて雰囲気も楽しめました。

いつもの観客を数名ピックアップして踊りなどを真似させて楽しむ幕間？がありますが、今回もとても楽しかったです。

劇場は狭かったですが、ほぼ満員でした。真ん前の真ん中辺の席でした。5名で参加しましたが、皆楽しめました。

While looking for various activities during my free time, I found an event that piqued my interest and made a reservation. Since it was a new service, I boarded with excitement. The female staff member greeted us cheerfully in Japanese and explained the equipment very thoroughly. The device can be adjusted to fit each individual, allowing for a personalized setup. Once the video started, multiple power stones appeared. By using my palms to grab them, I could hear various explanations about Hawaii's history.

As a tip for grabbing, I was able to catch several by quickly and firmly grabbing them. My husband mentioned that it was difficult to react with long sleeves, so it might be better to roll them up. While listening to various scenery and explanations in the video, we quickly reached the final stop. The staff were very cheerful, and I was grateful that they took photos for us after getting off the bus.

集合時間の15分前にはバスも到着しており、このペイントなので直ぐにわかり安心しました。
スキマ時間に色々探していた所、未体験で興味を持ったイベントを見つけて予約しました。まだ新しいサービスとの事でワクワクしながら乗車　スタッフの女性は日本語で明るく接して頂き、装置説明もとても丁寧に教えていただきました。頭に装置をセットし個々に合わせてサイズ調整も可能な為、自分サイズでセット出来ます。映像が流れだすとパワーストーンがいくつも現れます。自分の手のひらを使ってグッとつかみゲットするとハワイの歴史や色々な説明を聞く事ができます。
つかみ方のコツとして私は素早くグッとつかむ感じでいくつもゲット出来ました。主人は服の袖口が長いと反応しづらいと言ってたので袖口はまくってた方が良いかもしれません。映像で色々な景色や解説を聞きながらアッと言う間に終点。
スタッフの方がとても朗らかでバス降車後に写真も撮って頂きありがたかったです。

The seating is way to close they are cramming as many people as they can on the boat . The food was not good the meat was not appetizing looking or tasting . The view from the top deck is nice but they really really need to work on the food if they are going to charge you so much we had to get food after still because we couldn’t eat the food from the buffet

"AUANA" can only be described as wonderful! I couldn't take my eyes off the performances, with no time to catch my breath between each stage. I stay in Honolulu for about ten days once a year, and I definitely want to participate again next year.
