We participated in a morning tour with my 7-year-old and 10-year-old daughters and my wife, who can't swim. Our guide, Alan, picked us up at the meeting point, and on the way, we stopped by Alan's office to choose fins that fit my feet before heading to Hanauma Bay. Alan is a friendly guy who has lived in Nagoya, so he speaks Japanese quite well.

First, we learned how to wear the mask, breathe, and use the fins. We paired up with the kids and set off holding hands. When we got to deeper water, my younger child got scared, but Alan held their hand too, and the three of us held hands as he took us to various points.

There were many different fish, and they came so close that it felt like we could catch them if we reached out. They swam right in front of us and below us without fleeing. We didn't see any turtles, but we encountered some very large fish and long, slender fish about a meter long. Alan mentioned that turtles don't come to the bay much during low tide because it's shallow.

Towards the end, my daughters and wife got tired and decided to retire, while I asked Alan to take me to another point, which left me very satisfied. I brought a disposable underwater camera, but it was difficult to take pictures while floating. I won't know how well they turned out until I develop the film.

Thanks to the life jacket, my wife, who can't swim, was able to float and enjoyed herself. The kids seemed to have a great time too and were reluctant to leave. Alan was very considerate, so we completed the tour without any worries.

For those considering the tour, here's some helpful information: they provide a fairly large safety box (with a lock), which easily accommodated changes of clothes, towels, and sandals for all four of us. The ride down to the beach was easy since we took a trolley bus (the trolley bus fee seemed to be included in the participation cost). There were also showers and changing areas available.

It's a tour that makes you want to participate again!

ガイドのアランさんがピックアップ場所まで迎えに来てくれ、途中アランさんの事務所により自分の足に合ったフィンを選びハナウマ湾へ出発。アランさんは名古屋に住んでいたことがあるらしく日本語が達者な気さくなオッサンです。
最初にマスクの付け方、呼吸の仕方やフィンの使い方などを教わり、大人と子どものペアで手をつなぎ出発。深い所に行くと下の子が怖がってしまいましたが、アランさんも子どもの手をつないでくれ3人で手をつなぎいろんなポイントに連れて行ってもらいました。
いろんな魚がたくさんいて、手を伸ばせば捕まえれそうな距離まで近づいても逃げずにいるし、私たちの前や下を普通に泳いで行きます。
亀にはあえませんでしたが、とても大きな魚や1mぐらいはある細長い魚たちに遭遇。亀は引き潮の時間は湾が浅いからあまり来ないと言っていました。
終盤に娘と妻が疲れたとリタイヤ、私はアランさんに別のポイントに連れて行ってもらい大満足。
使い捨ての水中カメラを持って行ったのですが、浮かんだ状態での撮影は難しいです。上手く写っているかは現像してみないと分かりません。
泳げない妻もライフジャケットのおかげで浮いていられ、楽しんでいました。
子どもたちもとても楽しんでくれたみたいで帰るのを惜しんでいました。
アランさんがいろいろと気をつかってくれたので何の不安もなく無事ツアー終了。

ツアー検討中の方へ参考となれば
結構大きいセーフティボックス（鍵付き）を持っていってくれるので、４人分の着替えとタオル、サンダルはその中に余裕で入りました。
海までの上り下りはトロリーバスで行くので楽チン（トロリーバス代は参加費に含まれていたみたい）
シャワーと着替える場所はありました。
もう一度参加したくなるツアーです。

Don't let the less then perfect weather deter you from going. We went on a cloudy overcast day and were still able to enjoy the fishes and sea turtles. Bring a water camera, get picture opportunity.

I participated in a morning tour. During my first trip to Hawaii, I also went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. Since it was a place I wanted to visit again when I came back to Hawaii, I was looking forward to Hanauma.

This time, I chose a guided tour because I was with my children. There were two 8-year-olds and a 6-year-old, along with my husband and me. The guide held the hand of the 6-year-old and swam together with us, which was very helpful. The children were satisfied and happy to see various fish. The guide kindly taught us how to snorkel, and I was glad we could enjoy the ocean with peace of mind.

We must say a big thank you to Alan who really looked after us on this snorkel tour. My husband had never been snorkelling before and isn't particularly confident in the ocean, but Alan was brilliant, staying with him all the time, making sure he got the hang of everything. He pointed out the fish etc and knew exactly where the best spots were to make the most of the time we had at Hanauma Bay. I would definately recommend this tour to others.

Even though it was just a short three-night trip, spending half a day on this tour was a wonderful choice. I was able to see beautiful fish in the stunning sea and even encountered turtles twice... I still feel moved just thinking about it.

We were a group of three women around sixty, joined by two younger women, making a total of five members. At first, I had a bit of anxiety, but the expert held my hand and was always right beside me, so once I got the hang of the breathing rhythm, my worries faded away.

Snorkeling was "fun, moving, and exciting." Even if you're not confident in swimming, you'll be fine with the expert. I want everyone I know to experience this!

I wanted to meet the fish when I went to Hawaii, so I was looking for a tour. Since it was just my son, who is 10 years old and has never swum in the ocean, and me, a complete beginner, I thought we wouldn't be able to adventure without a guide. Although it was a bit pricey, I decided on this tour! I also read everyone's experiences and thought it sounded great.

If I remember correctly, the language option was only in English, but our guide, Alan, was very good at Japanese as he studied it in college and had lived in Nagoya.

After being picked up at the hotel, we adjusted our fin sizes at the shop and loaded our gear before heading to Hanauma Bay. It was a cold, cloudy day with strong winds. I thought there would be no place to put valuables, so I didn't bring any (I only had 10 dollars!). Alan had a locked box, but I felt embarrassed because I had nothing to put in it...

It was really cold, and my son was just shivering. Since we were the only participants, Alan and I held my son's hands and started swimming. We were able to see various fish, as if we were swimming in an aquarium, and we even encountered turtles! It was so moving!

I don't think I could have had this experience alone due to my fear. Alan was a gentle guide, and we made wonderful memories. I would love to participate again if I have the chance.

　この日は風が強く曇っていて寒い日でした。置くところがないと思って貴重品は持っていかなかったのですが（10ドルしかもっていきませんでした！）アランさんが鍵つきのボックスを持っていましたが、何も入れるものがなくてはずかしいような・・・・
　本当に寒い日で息子は寒くて震えているだけ・・参加したのが私達だけなのもあり、アランさんと私で息子の手を引いて泳ぎ始めると水族館の中を泳いでいるように色々なお魚、それから亀さんにも本当に会えました！感激です！

I participated alone on April 13, 2009. I joined the morning course, and there were a total of five people in the group, including myself and a Canadian family of four (parents and two elementary school-aged sons). Our guide, Alan, was very proficient in Japanese and explained how to use the snorkeling equipment in a mix of Japanese and English.

As for the sea, while we could see large fish in the shallow areas, the visibility wasn't very high. Especially on this day, the waves were quite high, and even as someone with diving experience, I felt a bit nervous when swimming out. The two Canadian sons had one being guided by Alan and the other by their father, and it looked quite challenging for them. While it's hard to generalize since it depends on the weather, I recommend that those who are considering signing up and are new to snorkeling or not confident in their physical strength keep in mind that such situations can occasionally occur.

That said, the high satisfaction with the tour came from the beauty of the location at Hanauma Bay and the attentiveness of the guide! Before entering, we watched a 10-minute film, which was informative about environmental protection and safety in the ocean at Hanauma Bay.

If I have the opportunity to go to Hawaii again, I would definitely want to participate in this tour!

肝心な海は…というと、浅瀬に大きな魚が見られるものの、透明度はあまり高くなかったです。特にこの日は波が高く、沖に向かって泳ぐ場面ではダイビング経験者の私でも少し緊張しました（カナダ人の2人の息子さんは、ひとりはアランさんが、もうひとりはお父さんが手を引きながら一緒に泳いでいましたが…かなり大変そうでした＾＾;）
天候によるものなので一概には言えませんが、これから申し込まれる方でシュノーケリングが初めての方や体力に自信がない方は、稀にそういうケースもあることを頭の隅にいれておくことをオススメします。

とはいえ、ツアーの満足度が高かったのは、ハナウマ湾のロケーションの美しさとガイドさんの気配り！また入場前に10分ほどの映画を見るのですが、ハナウマ湾の環境保護と海の安全に対する意識の高さも勉強になり良かったです。

This was by far the best part of our vacation! We chose to do the small group tour because my husband can't swim and has never been in the ocean. Not to worry, our guide, Alan, was fabulous!!! He was very patient and helpful. Not only did he help us with the technical part of snorkeling, but he brought us to some areas of Hanauma Bay that most don't see. We were lucky enough to swim with four sea turtles! We would certainly go back!

I applied after seeing the reviews here. I really wanted to swim with the sea turtles.

I was told that you can't always see them, but I encountered two sea turtles. One of them came up close, looking curious, and swam with me! I was so thrilled.

On the way back to the shore, there was a spot where the waves were strong, and it took more than 10 minutes to return. I definitely think beginners need a guide.

Since it was my first time snorkeling, I chose this tour with a guide, and it was definitely the right decision. Our guide, Alan, was great at speaking Japanese and taught us how to snorkel in a very thorough manner, which made me feel at ease. We encountered a sea turtle right after getting into the water and were thrilled to swim alongside it for a while. In the end, we saw two turtles! I really appreciated having a guide who took us to places we wouldn't have been able to reach on our own and to points with lots of fish. It truly became the best memory of my time in Hawaii. I highly recommend it for first-timers!

In July 2008, I participated with my wife. Our companions were an American couple. The instructor was a Japanese named Kiko. Since there were many participants, we were asked to help out. We met up with others at the entrance of the Education Theater (where we watched a 7-minute video on environmental protection and ocean safety before heading to the beach). After that, we took a tram to the beach.

At the beach, a complete set of snorkeling gear, including marine boots, was prepared in each person's size, and our belongings were stored in a large locked container. It was truly attentive service.

The seawater temperature varied significantly by location, and many areas felt quite cold. Due to the tides, we didn't see many fish, and the visibility was not great. The visibility in the shallows was decent, but it became murky (with fine bubbles) as we went further out. Since it was the day after our arrival in Hawaii, the timing in the afternoon was fine for our stamina, but considering the tide conditions that day, I thought the visibility might have been better in the morning.

ハワイ到着の翌日のため、体力的には午後でよかったのだが、この日の潮回りから言ったら透明度はやはり午前中がよかったのかなと思う。
亀も見られず、期待が大きかっただけに疲労も増大。
少し早めにリタイアしグテグテ状態で浜にあがった。
浜にあがってミネラルウォータをもらい、クッキーを進められたがほとんど食べる元気なし。水分の多そうなのを捜してひとつだけ食べた。
シャワーを浴びた頃には、幾分元気が復活。このころに満足しきった妻が戻ってきた。
日頃の運動不足を痛感した一日でした。

Since it was my first time snorkeling, I chose this tour with an expert. The guide, Alan, was friendly, spoke Japanese well, and treated us with care, which made me feel very at ease. Additionally, we were able to go out to areas that we wouldn't have been able to reach on our own, so I highly recommend taking this tour if you're going! We also got to see sea turtles! However, if you're prone to seasickness, it might be a good idea to take some motion sickness medication.

Our guide, Alan, provided kind and attentive instruction in fluent Japanese, allowing us to enjoy snorkeling with our family without any worries. Since this was a guided tour, we were able to go quite far out, and we even encountered four sea turtles and saw rays up close. I believe it would have been impossible for us to do this on our own, so even though the price was a bit high, I think it was definitely worth it. This was my first time booking an optional tour online, but there were no issues at all, and my family loved it. Alan himself provided transportation in a van, and he brought a large locked box to the beach for our clothes, towels, and valuables, so we could store them safely. After coming out of the water, there was a shower next to the restroom, and we could change inside the restroom. They also provided mineral water and snacks, which was very thoughtful. The snorkeling at Hanauma Bay was incredibly fun!

Excellent adventure, was disappointed one of the family members had a fear of water that could not be overcome. The snorkeling was fantastic and the owner knew all the great places to go and see aquatic life. WIsh there would have been some sort of refund for the one member who could not get out in the water.

This was the most fun my girlfriend and I had. The water was a little murky the day we went out there, but you could definitly see all sorts of fish out there. It was our first time snorkling and our guide was excellent and stayed with us and continuously made sure we were all ok! He even showed us out where there were 2 huge sea turtles. We can't wait to go back!

We were able to see a variety of fish and sea turtles, and my child was very satisfied. The guide took us quite far out, which would have been impossible to do on our own. They even helped pull me along with my 9-year-old child. The waves were strong, and I felt a bit seasick, but it was fun.

This wa our first trip to Hawaii and first time snorkeling. We loved it! The guide knew all the spots and lead us was patient to the beautiful fish and sea turtles. We couldn't have asked for a better time. A definite must do. I would have loved to have spent more time snorkeling, but our tour was up. 5 Stars!

Since I'm going to Hawaii, I wanted to go snorkeling! Since it was my first time snorkeling, I thought it would be best to have a guide, so my family of three joined this tour, even though the price was a bit high.

My first choice was in the morning, but since I signed up at the last minute, we ended up going in the afternoon. First, we were picked up right in front of our hotel by our instructor, Alan. We headed to Hanauma Bay with another group of six.

When we arrived at the entrance of Hanauma Bay, we met up with a newlywed American couple, and Alan collected the entrance fee of $5 for those over 12 years old and paid it all at once. While we watched a nine-minute movie, he prepared everything in front of the trolley that goes down the slope, allowing us to smoothly access the sandy beach.

Since there were a lot of people this time, Alan assigned the newlyweds to one instructor, while Kiko and Aki, both Japanese instructors, took care of us Japanese participants.

They provided all the necessary equipment, including life jackets, mats, and a place to store valuables (you could also put in clothes and towels), and they even had water and some snacks ready.

The others were very skilled (sorry for being a bother), and I, who had no confidence in swimming, honestly thought during practice, "Should I just wait on the beach?" I participated with my child in late August 2008. It was clear that they were considerate in their conversations during the car ride.

We met up with two more participants along the way, making a total of four of us heading to Hanauma Bay. After watching a video about Hanauma Bay, we took a trolley down. At the beach, we received equipment instructions, put on life jackets, and stepped into the slightly cold water. We practiced in shallower areas after a preliminary lecture. I already felt a bit out of place at this point. I held onto someone’s hand as we headed out.

There they were! Fish were swimming around normally, including some large ones over 50 centimeters long.

Unfortunately, we didn’t encounter any turtles, but it was clear they were trying hard to find them. With the underwater camera I brought, they actively took pictures of us and the fish.

You can manage valuables and changes of clothes in a large locked case. They even let me put in the slippers I wore. Mats and equipment are all available for rent. We received water and snacks at the end.

You can change clothes easily afterward, so I think it’s a good idea to bring some.

As a note, my underwater goggles didn’t seem to fit well, and water kept getting in, making me accidentally drink saltwater, which was quite uncomfortable. While all equipment is available for rent, it might be better to bring your own if you have something that fits perfectly.

We swam quite far out for about an hour. The water was pretty cold, and I was shivering afterward. A bath towel and a long-sleeved cover-up are essential.

For those who really want to see turtles, a tour to the North Shore might be better. We encountered turtles on the beach two days later on a different tour.

That said, for beginners, this tour offers hands-on guidance from start to finish, so I think it would be fun to go with friends.

　かなり沖へ向かい、一時間ほど泳ぎます。
　水もかなり冷たいので、あがってからは震えが出るほどでした。
　バスタオルや長そでの羽織るものは必須です。

　「どうしてもカメを見たい」という人は、ノースショアに行くのツアーのほうがいいかもしれません。
　私たちは二日後に、別のツアーで、砂浜に上がっているカメに出会うことができました。

We participated with three adults and one child. Unfortunately, we didn't see any turtles, but I was very moved to see fish swimming within reach. Our child, who is four years old, was scared and didn't want to go into the water because he couldn't breathe well underwater, but our guide, Alan, carried him on his back, so we felt safe even when we went out to the open water. This is a very beautiful spot, lovely beach. I have been snorkling many times before including the Great Barrier Reef but have never done a guided tour. It was great to have a guide because he took us to places we would never have gone without him and saw much more. He new where all the hiding spots were. We saw so much more than if we had been just on our own. and what a great swim we had. Then snacks were provided after the tour. Well done! Cindi Johnston Whitby, On Canada
