Awesome trip - very scenic, informative, and fun!
Reviewed by: Connie, 2022/04/19Our trip with Makana Charters was a great time - our guides Cam and Asia were very helpful, knowledgeable and made the trip fun, as well as showing us amazing sights along the Na Pali Coastline. We entered a couple of awesome sea caves, saw turtles and hundreds of fish and sea life snorkeling, learned about the culture and history of the native Kauaian people, and enjoyed great views of the beautiful mountains, waterfalls and beaches all along the coastline. Safety was always front and foremost - we never felt at risk in any way. Would highly recommend Makana Charters - you can't go wrong!

Fantastic adventure!
Reviewed by: Billy, 2022/04/18My 9 year old daughter and I had a wonderful afternoon with Captain Cam and his partner Tony. They conveyed wonderful information about the areas we were seeing, made sure everyone was well taken care of, and kept the afternoon moving along such that there never seemed to be a dull moment. Highlights were snorkling, humpback whales, getting into some of the beautiful caves and just generally becoming familiar with a uniquely beautiful area of the world. Highly recommended!

What a great ride!
Reviewed by: J Slayton, 2022/03/26I've been on this tour a few times, this time with my sister and it does not disappoint. The coast is absolutely beautiful and we saw both wales and lots of playing dolphins, which was amazing.
The catamaran was very nice and well maintained. The staff was wonderful and our captain was outstanding.
I would definitely recommend this activity and it is a must do when in Kauai!

Breathtaking Experience

It was so organized and straight to the point which I loved. The whole crew was amazing and kind, always making sure passengers were okay and comfortable. It’s funny because I’m sure the crew has seen the views a million times, yet they still make it enjoyable and share such an insightful information about Kaua’i. The views were amazing and no pictures or videos can ever do them justice. I really appreciated this time experience and will carry it with me forever! Thank you so much, Holo Holo!

Kayak Kauai Hanalei River & Blue Lagoon Kayak & Snorkel Adventure
Great kayaking tour, not-so-great snorkeling tour
Reviewed by: Jams, 2022/01/06Kayaking the Hanalei River was magestic! The tour guides were fun and interesting and knowledgable! When we got to the snorkeling place, it seemed like it would be good - lots of reef, but then it was not as good as it seemed. I think the reef was too high in the sense that you could only snorkel around the coral, not above it as I'm used to, so if you don't find the "channel" (there are several false leads/dead-ends) then you may get stuck on top of the coral which means you may have to step on it, which you're not supposed to do! This is particularly challenging with children. The gear was all one-size-fits-no-one really well. I thought there would be children's sized gear so we didn't bother bringing the cheap children's gear that we purchased earlier in the week - I thought the tour would have better gear. All-in-all, we barely snorkeled! But otherwise, the tour was lovely!
Aloha Jams, Thanks for your nice, informative and fair review. Glad the guides, panorama, setting that is Hanalei made up for the disappointing snorkeling. At times depending on weather snorkeling, once in a while can be a “hit or miss”. Glad the guides were stil able to fun you. With small children we encourage folks to bring those cheap snorkeling gear that you mentioned. Stay well and thanks again for taking the time to share.

A very fun boat ride and snorkel, I will take this tour again for this price

The tour was well organized with a good size of the crews and customers for the price. The boat is steady and clean, very nice to stay for 5 hours.
The captain was very experienced and he made the boat ride so fun by how he explains things, how he operates the boat, and how he interacts with the customers. He is very respectable and friendly.
The crews are also very informative! They shared so many stories of Hawaii myth, how they grew up in Kauai, and how wonderful nature is.
I am very glad that we did a boat tour to see the Napali Coast. I hiked several trails along the coast and took a flight tour as well. All the views have different looks. I loved that I could get to do snorkel with the boat tour, I swam with so many fish and turtles.

It's a cruise around paradise with a crew of well trained, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly people, what more could you ask for
Reviewed by: David Shultz, 2021/09/03Our experience was pretty much perfect! The crew quickly found some dolphins which we stopped to watch and talk about, such amazing animals! The snorkel location was beautiful and the crew told us all about the island and various areas relative to local history, legends and the like. We then took to sailing as the weather was being friendly enough and enjoyed drinks and lunch. It's difficult to explain the joy of sailing off the coast of Kauai with a beer and a great group of people, it's worth every penny and more! We asked around the island and were told by every local that Holo Holo was the only choice for cruises around the island, they did not disappoint! We will be back to Kauai and will absolutely return to Holo Holo again

What an awesome day!

We wanted to choose a few excursions that allowed us to see most of the island and learn about the culture/history. This tour was...... AMAZING. Such a beautiful coast. The crew on the boat was more than great & very attentive to all passengers. They were all very knowledgeable about the island, and just overall made the trip fun. The provided lunch was delicious. Aside from the breath taking views of the Na Pali coast, we saw hundreds of spinner dolphins, sea turtles, seals, the forbidden island, and snorkeled. One thing I will say though, if you get motion sick, this is not the tour for you.

Loved the boat tour !

Breathtaking views and a laid back cruise.
Reviewed by: Michael, 2020/02/11If you are looking for some great Napali Coast views from the water, look no further. This tour was the complete package with a good amount of time for snorkeling, marine life watching (dolphins, whales, sea lions), and some good ole laid back sailing. You will start in Port Allen and travel north west up the famed Napali coast. With food and refreshments along the way this is a great afternoon of sailing and taking in the sights. The water can get a little choppy out there so if you are prone to sea sickness I would recommend taking something a few hours before departure. If not it is nothing a couple of beers won't fix! I took hundreds of photos and am having even a tough time deleting the duplicates! If you have the time one day in Kauai, I would highly reccomend this tour.

HoloHolo Speedboat - Snorkel at Na Pali Coast & Explore Sea Caves (from Hanalei)
Amazing views and fun time!

We also lucked out and saw 4 groups of dolphins, which is almost unheard of, as well as two groups of sea turtles! We ended our boat ride with about a half hour of snorkeling on the reef. Then we got sandwiches, chips, and drinks as we headed back to shore. Overall, we had an incredible morning on the water!

Money well-spent!

They were very attentive to our kids and kept everyone engaged and excited. The captain steered the boat with precision allowing us to get into small cave openings and over large waves.
Bring non-spray sunscreen and a hat that won’t blow off since it gets very windy. We took motion sickness pills prior to the trip which really helped.
The views were breathtaking! Highly recommend.

Beautiful scenery and Attentive crew--this tour is a must do!

For years I've dreamed of sailing along the Na Pali coast and it was more beautiful than I ever imagined. The emerald cliffs were absolutely breathtaking. Other passengers spotted whales breaching the water nearby but I couldn't take my eyes of the coast. As we began our sail back to the harbor we were accompanied by a pod of dolphins who swam alongside and in front of our boat for several minutes; it was magical.
My fiance's favorite part of the cruise was the snorkeling. We had so much fun swimming in a secluded cove and spotting unique marine life.
I can't leave out the exceptional crew. As we sailed along the coast they pointed out historic sites, popular film locations, famous (and notorious) hikes, and told us about the local wildlife.
We'll relish in the memories of this tour forever!

Kayak Kauai Hanalei River & Blue Lagoon Kayak & Snorkel Adventure
Rain can't stop a good time.
Reviewed by: Holly P, 2019/03/09A warm rain fell, off and on during our float up the river, but since we were going to get wet anyhow, it didn't matter. Our guides, Web and Dan, were very attentive and funny. And knowledgeable about what we were seeing along the way.
One thing that was different from our expectation, but didn't matter too much, was that since the road past Hanalei is closed indefinitely due to a storm, the guides had to park and load things in different spots than normal, which added to the walk to the beach.
I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes fun flatwater kayaking, and great snorkeling on the north coast of Kaua'i.

Thanks for warning others that, due to last years flood, has forced us to take a 1/4 mile walk along beautiful Hanale Bay.
Sometime in the next few months we are told that the road to the river mouth, where we generally launch, will be open once again.d

Beautiful scenery and a fun crew!
Reviewed by: Kari, 2019/01/08We had a great time on this snorkel cruise! The Na Pali Coast is gorgeous and our crew made the experience that much better by being so friendly and accommodating. They were right there if you needed anything, ready to answer any questions you had and give background information on the island, and were even offering to take pictures for you. We were fortunate to get to see so much marine life from the boat--dolphins, whales, sea turtles, manta rays, and a baby octopus. The only downside is that we wish we could have snorkeled for a longer period of time (because we love it!). The ride back to Kauai from Niihau was definitely rough, but we took Dramamine beforehand and wore sea bands, which all seemed to help. The crew definitely lightened the mood with jokes and took efficient care of those unfortunate few who got sick. We would definitely recommend this excursion!

Kayak Kauai Hanalei River & Blue Lagoon Kayak & Snorkel Adventure
Brought us to a hotel beach
Reviewed by: Thilo, 2018/11/26It was wasted money. We drove with the guides 45min to Hanalei. There we walked relatively long along the public beach to the kayaks and started to kayak in the river next corner. Nothing spectacular and you can see everything from the road. After about 1 hour kayaking they brought us to a dead reef in front of a hotel where you can go by yourself as well.

Sorry to hear that our Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel did not meet expectations.
Many folks enjoy not only the scenic drive by van up to Hanalei but also the short hike along beautiful Hanalei Bay to the staging area; not to mention the paddle/snorkel and panorama that surrounds magical Hanalei.
We are there for folks that choose to rent and go un-guided versus those who want to and maximize their time.
