This time, I was able to participate in the Mauna Kea Nature School, and I had a truly moving experience. The sunset from the summit of Mauna Kea was indeed breathtaking. Additionally, the stargazing afterward was wonderful. The temperature at the summit is very low, and this tour is the only one that provides rental cold-weather gear, showing the thoughtful consideration of the tour company.

At first, I hesitated to join the trip alone, but I'm really glad I did. The guide and the other participants were all very kind. It was truly moving to see stars that can only be viewed in the latest planetarium in such a realistic way. The stars visible change with the seasons, so I definitely want to repeat this experience.

Since it was mid-April, most tours had already ended. Just when I was about to give up, I came across this tour. I participated knowing that the chances of seeing whales were low, but I was able to see several of them. I even witnessed the moment when they dove straight down to the seabed. The other tour participants were also cheering. It was fun. I would like to participate again. Thank you very much.

Since we had children with us, we decided to join the Honolulu for whale watching, as it seemed that the boat activities were not suitable for them yet. I had heard that the area where whales appear is beyond Hawaii Kai, but it seemed that the Honolulu mainly offered sightseeing, as the tour only went as far as providing a view of Waikiki. If you have the time and are mainly interested in sightseeing, it might be fine, but for those hoping for the kind of whale watching advertised, I think other activities would be better.

We participated as a family on April 2nd. Since there was no pickup at 8 AM, I was thinking of taking the trolley bus, but it seemed that it wasn't running yet. I heard that I could take the bus, so I waited for the 19 or 20 mentioned in the book, but since I didn't check the schedule, it took a while to arrive. I ended up taking a taxi in a hurry.

The office location was hard to find. I stayed under the Aloha Tower for a while, but since I needed to go to the restroom, I headed towards the large ship and found the office. 子供達はすぐに飽きてしまいました

This is a great way to see the island. The driver was very knowledgeable, and we visited some beautiful areas. We had about 15 min. at each stop, which was fine, except at the Dole plantation. Honestly, I dont know why they bother. In 15 min we had time to get our ice cream, and that was it. No time to browse the gift shop at all, or browse the grounds at all. Either allow more time at Dole, or skip it altogether. The driver could use a bell of some sort. We often had to wait for people who didnt return when they were supposed to. I dont know if those delays made much difference, we still got to the Polynesian Cultural Center around 1pm, which was plenty of time. The evening show after the luau was fantastic.

The boat rocked quite a bit. It was difficult to stand, so those who are prone to seasickness might find it a bit challenging. Eating was also difficult in those conditions. The whales didn't show themselves very often. After seeing them spout water a few times, we only caught a glimpse of their backs, but it was still moving. Onboard, there were plenty of fun activities like hula dancing, lei-making, and ukulele lessons. I made a lei to take home. I am grateful for such a valuable and fulfilling experience. I'm not a big fan of group activities, but since it's difficult to visit Mauna Kea on your own, I decided to sign up despite it being a bit pricey. To conclude, my two middle school children said it was the most fun they had during our eight-day trip. I also enjoyed it, but I couldn't fully rejoice because I had some concerns about the cost-performance ratio (laughs). However, I was able to enjoy many unique landscapes, so that was great!

I participated on March 24th. Since I tend to get seasick, I took motion sickness medication early, which may have helped, but I did feel a bit nauseous when the waves were rough. However, as soon as we spotted the whale, my seasickness disappeared. The sweet potato-like dish was delicious, and I even had seconds on the cookies. When the whale was spotted, there was a cheer from everyone.

Mario was an excellent bus/tour driver! I would definitely recommend getting a longer tour that allows for the USS Missouri tour. A Sunday tour was the best - least amount of traffic, which allowed for more time at Pearl Harbor. Mario also allowed us out of the bus to take pictures at the King Kamehameha statue.

We waited 45 mins. to be picked up at our pick-up location. The driver did not give any explanation or apologize for the delay. When we arrived at the entrance to the Arizona Memorial, he found it would be about 1 1/2 hours before we would be able to actually go to the Memorial. He debated about waiting that long and then suggested we go to the Missouri first. After debating back & forth about that, he finally decided to do that. As soon as he started driving to the Missouri, he expressed concern about getting back at the required time for our tickets for the Arizona. It certainly didn't make us feel very confident. As a result of all this, I believe we were shorted time at both locations. This was our first and probably only trip to Pearl Harbor. We really wanted to experience it in the order in which events occurred - The Arizona and then the Missouri.

It was said that we couldn't get closer than 100 yards (just under 100 meters) for whale protection, but I felt like we could see the whales' tails, spouts, and backs from a few hundred meters away. I chose a plan that included lunch and transportation, but the lunch might have been unnecessary. (During the meal, there were announcements about whale sightings, so I couldn't eat in peace, and the food got cold and wasn't tasty.)

I think it would be better to separate the experiences: a reasonable morning tour focused on whale watching, and a sunset dinner cruise on the same Star of Honolulu for enjoying a meal. Also, since the whales were quite far away, I feel that my child wouldn't be very impressed even when they grow up a bit more. (Unless we were lucky enough to have the whales come closer.)

I chose the transportation option, but the area around Aloha Tower, where the boat departs, has a small mall, and it seemed like a nice place to stroll, so it might be better to take a taxi ourselves.

送迎付を選びましたが、船の発着するアロハタワー近辺はちょっとしたモールもあって、お散歩するのも楽しそうだったので自分たちでタクシーで行くほうが良いかもしれません。

There were about ten participants, and I felt a bit flustered during the introductions in the car. Everything was explained in English, but there was a participation agreement in Japanese, so I thought it would be nice to have some explanation notes in Japanese. Although I couldn't understand the language, I enjoyed myself thanks to the guide and the consideration of the other participants who wanted everyone to have a good time, and I was able to see the birds properly. I participated in the morning whale watching cruise with Star of Honolulu (without breakfast buffet).

After boarding, we were guided to seats on the first floor, where everyone listened to a whale watching lecture. There was an explanation in English followed by one in Japanese. Once the lecture was over, we dispersed to wait for the whales to appear at our preferred spots (most people went to the top deck, the fourth floor). The ship also provides free motion sickness medication, but you'll need water to take it.

When a whale is spotted, they announce the direction and distance over the loudspeaker. I was able to catch a glimpse of the spout and tail. You can leisurely enjoy the view of Honolulu from the sea, which is nice for those who want to relax, but if you're expecting to see whales up close in a dramatic way, it might not meet your expectations.

By the way, the parking at Aloha Tower costs $3 for the first 30 minutes, and then $3 for every additional 30 minutes, so it might be good to time your arrival with the departure time. Bob was so entertaining and informative! He made the early morning quite pleasant. However, I think arriving at Haleakala 75 minutes before sunrise was a bit too soon. Too much time to stand around and be cold. Also, the bus was a little small and cramped for leg room. The payoff, the spectacular sunrise, was exceptional.

This was the cheapest morning course, which didn't include breakfast.
Shortly after boarding the boat, we were able to see a whale's tail just once. After that, they didn't appear much, and my friend and I were talking about how it was nice to enjoy the beautiful sea and the scenery of Oahu, even if it was cheap.
