From the moment we got into the pickup truck, our Japanese guide was non-stop talking, to the point where I thought they might get tired. Since all the participants were Japanese, the vehicle was always filled with laughter. We were blessed with great weather and enjoyed a wonderful sunset. This time, I finally got to see the sunset and starry sky after two attempts!
The guide was very kind and helped me with things unrelated to the tour, for which I am very grateful!
The sunset sinking into the sea of clouds was truly beautiful and will be a lifelong memory!
Of course, the tour was amazing (it's a bit disappointing when the weather doesn't cooperate, but you can get tickets for the next time!). The guides and the people who handled the phone calls were all fantastic!

Continuing from yesterday's tour (yesterday was Kilauea), I finally made it to Mauna Kea. To be honest, I’m a sunny weather girl, so as soon as I got on the tour bus, I confidently told the guide that today would be clear and the weather wouldn’t change! I guarantee it! Everyone, it’s thanks to me~ (^_-)☆

Before heading to the summit, we had lunch at the Onizuka Visitor Center (I forgot to take a photo). This was to prevent altitude sickness. I made sure to see the Silversword, which can be seen outside the Onizuka Visitor Center. This alpine plant can only be found in Hawaii and the Himalayas, and it blooms only once every several years.

The reason I wanted to join this tour was to see the Southern Cross and the Subaru Telescope. We were about to depart for the summit. Observatories from around the world lined up. The Subaru Telescope!!

And we enjoyed the scenery until sunset♪~ As the sun set, we got in the car for stargazing at 3,800 meters!!! I chose this tour because it was the highest altitude for observation. However, I realized before leaving the Big Island (tears) that it was three days before the full moon, which means the moonlight would make it hard to see the stars... But I was told that it’s not impossible to see the stars, and the moon would be beautiful, so I was glad I participated knowing that. If you want to see a beautiful starry sky, choose a new moon!!!

Indeed, it wasn’t that the stars were completely invisible, but they were a bit hard to see... However, the moon was incredibly beautiful. I was also surprised to see several artificial satellites shining. The guide was surprised too (+o+). They taught us the positions of the constellations and even shared myths. 山頂へ行く前にオニヅカビジターセンターでお弁当を食べ（写真撮り忘れました。）高山病にならない為にですね。
シルバーソードをしっかり見て来ましたよ。オニヅカビジターセンターの外で見られます。ハワイとヒマラヤでしか見られない高山植物で花は十数年に一度しか咲きません。
このツアーに参加したかったのは南十字星を見たかったこととすばる望遠鏡が見たかったことです。
そろそろ山頂へ向け出発です。世界各国の天文台ずらり。すばる望遠鏡！！
そして夕陽が落ちるまで景色を堪能♪～
陽が落ち車に乗り、3800ｍで星空観測！！！
確かこのツアーが一番標高が高い場所での観測だったので決めました。
でもハワイ島出発前に気づいてしまったのです（涙）この日は満月の３日前
ってことは月明かりで星は見えずらい...でも星空は全く見られないわけでは
ないし月は綺麗に見られますよって言われ承知で参加していたのでよかった
です。綺麗な星空が見たいなら新月を選んでくださいね！！！
確かに星空は全く見えないわけではありませんでしたがやはり見えずらかったかなぁ～...でも月は最高に綺麗でした。あとビックリしたのは人工衛星のヒカリがいくつも見えました。ガイドさんにもビックリ(+o+)星座の位置を教えて頂き、神話まで話してくださいました。ちゃんと質問しても答えて頂き天文博士？素晴らしいです。私の質問？それば決まっていますよ！「南十字星がみたいのですが」明け方に見られるとのこと...トホホ。サンライズの方に
すればよかったかな～とは思いましたがサンライズは次の機会に。次はコナ
マラソン時に...見られることを確認してから予約しよっと
今回はこのツアーに参加したい一心でヒロに滞在していたのですが
コナまで移動しコナから帰国しました。

It was a nice day today!

First, we were at the last hotel for pickup, and I ended up sitting in the back row. This remained unchanged until the end, which was puzzling. Usually, in such tours, you would expect to change seats for the return trip, and I thought the last pickup location would be the first drop-off, so I assumed I would sit in the front. Moreover, there was clearly an elderly person with us, which was a disappointing point.

The weather was great all the way to Mauna Kea. The lunch was a bento box with miso soup, and it was delicious. The cocoa after the meal was also a nice touch. It was cold up there, so I borrowed a jacket and pants to wear on the bus as we headed to the summit. (Honestly, it was a bit sad for the elderly person to sit in the back of the cramped bus.)

After overcoming rough roads, we finally reached the summit!!

Or so I thought, but the ranger told us to turn back... Why? It turned out the wind was strong, it was getting colder, and the road was freezing. 今日はいい天気！という日に参加しました。

まず最後のピックアップのホテルだったのですが、
最後列に座ることに。そしてこれは最後まで変わらなかったのは
なぞでした。
通常こういうツアーだといきと帰りは座る場所を変えたりすると
思いますし、普通最後のピックアップ場所は、最初のドロップオフなので
一番前に座るのかと思ってました。
しかもどう考えても最高齢者が一緒にいたのですが、、これは残念ポイント。

とってもいい天気でオニヅカまで。
お弁当は幕の内弁当とお味噌汁で、おいしかったです。
食後のココアもうれしかった。
ここで寒いので上着とズボンを貸していただき、
着用してバスにのって山頂を目指します。
（狭いバスの中、最高齢者が後ろに座るのは正直ちょっとかわいそうです）

悪路を超えてようやく頂上！！

と思ったら、レンジャーが戻れ、と、、、、。
なぜ？と思ったら風がつよくてさらに寒くなり道路が凍結するから。
とのこと。
頂上の写真をあわただしくとって下山。
それは仕方ないのですが、
どこかでサンセットの写真をとるのかとまっていたら、
まさかの2000メートルまで下がった上にすでに日没。
地球の影も簡単に説明だけで写真撮影できず。

そして再度星空観測のため、オニヅカまでのぼりました。
星空観測自体はよかったです。

これはツアータイトル不催行だな、と思って、よくここで書かれている
二年以内に再チャレンジの券をもらえるのかと思ったら、
オニヅカまでいったらもらえないとのこと。
でもサンセットみれてないのに？と思いました。

さらに残念だったのは、
写真をとっていただいたものを
ツアー後、ダウンロードさせてもらえるのですが、
もう一台行った同じ会社の車は、日没も地球の影も一緒に写真を
とっている、、、、。
私たちのグループはないうえに、他のとった写真もいまひとつ。

以前グランドサークルのこういうツアーに参加したときは
写真の撮り方もとてもガイドさんたちは詳しくて、
本当に上手にとってくださったので
それを期待していたのかもしれませんが、
写真の技術も残念でした。

日系で評判がいい会社だったので期待しすぎたのかもしれませんが、
もう少しサンセットがとれなかったときのケアを考えて用意しておく
ほうが、トータルの満足感もあがるし、納得できると思います。
改善を希望します。

Before participating in this tour, I was concerned about altitude sickness and the weather. To counter altitude sickness, we had dinner at the Onizuka Center, located at an elevation of about 2800m, which also helped with acclimatization. このツアー参加前に気になった事は高山病と天気について。
高山病対策は途中の標高2800m付近のオニヅカセンターにて高地順応を兼ね夕飯のお弁当を食べました。(このハワイアンチックな和風弁当＆温かい味噌汁は美味でした！)その後、山頂へ向かい出発してからも、丁寧に深呼吸の仕方を教えてもらい、道中高山病の症状も出ず問題なく過ごせました。
天気についても、ここ最近は不安定な天気で星空が見えたり見えなかったり、との事でしたが、私達が参加した日は幸いなことに問題ありませんでした。(と言うか、絶好のコンディション！)麓から上を見上げると山に雲が掛かっていますが、これは毎日のことらしい。考えてみれば、それよりも高い4200mまで登るんですよね。。
山頂からは雲海から沈む大変キレイな夕日が臨めました。山頂でサンセット堪能後、少し下に降りそこから天体観測。暗くなるにつれて星がどんどん多くなり、その最中に動く人工衛星も2〜3機確認できました。今日は太陽の反射光もよくあたり風もありで、絶好のコンディションだったようです。夏場の星空はもっとスゴいとのことですが、これ以上の星空ってどうなっちゃうの？？という程キレイな星空でした。夜空についてもポインターを使い面白おかしく説明していただき、天体について改めて学ぶ事が出来ました。
天候の運不運もあるのでしょうが、私達にとって最高のひと時となりました。

I was really glad to finally go on the Mauna Kea tour, and I was also blessed with great weather, experiencing the best sunset and a starry sky that took my breath away!

Regarding the tour content, aside from some road paving issues, the drive was smooth. The bento we had at the Onizuka Visitor Center was delicious, and the consideration for photo opportunities during the sunset and stargazing at the summit exceeded my expectations. We were blessed with great weather and were able to see the best sunset without any obstructions. The starry sky was also a breathtaking experience, truly one for a lifetime. I was impressed by the location at the summit of Mauna Kea, where various observatories from different countries are located! The winds were so strong that I felt like I might be blown away, but I was able to see a very beautiful sunset. Since it's nature, we can't predict the weather until the reservation date. I climbed up to 2,800 meters, but it started to rain along the way. We take some time for altitude acclimatization, but due to the rain, we eat cold boxed lunches in the car. Beyond that point, the road was closed due to snow and ice. We changed our plans and headed to the west coast to watch the sunset. I was looking forward to seeing the sunset and stargazing from the summit, but... here too, the clouds obscured everything. I've seen the sunset every day for five days, so maybe it's okay.

The summit of Mauna Kea was cold at minus 2 degrees with strong winds, and I didn't have the luxury to take photos. I experienced mild altitude sickness and felt a bit unsteady, followed by a headache later, but I was able to enjoy the experience until the end. (There were three portable toilets at the summit, but no tissues.)

By the way, the stars were amazing!! I will never forget this experience and will definitely participate again.

Lastly, the miso soup in the bento was incredibly delicious. I bought stickers and playing cards as souvenirs at the Onizuka Visitor Center. Thank you for your hospitality. Thank you very much.

I was initially anxious about going to a mountain higher than Mount Fuji, but gradually acclimating my body and the fun guidance from Shin made it possible for me to reach the summit safely. At the top, I experienced the sun sinking into the clouds, the gradient after sunset, and a series of first-time experiences. It was a great day with favorable conditions, not just in terms of the weather, but also the sunset and moonrise times. We participated as two men who came for work, but I believe it would be perfect for couples or partners. As for concerns about altitude sickness, since we drove to the summit and took our time to acclimatize, I felt a bit uncomfortable when we descended, but moving slowly was not a problem. Next time, I would like to participate with my family. I think it would be even better if it were a little cheaper (laughs).

The sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea was truly wonderful with the changing colors of the setting sun. Additionally, during the stargazing, I was moved to see the Milky Way, numerous stars, and even artificial satellites flying by. This year, I was also able to take a photo of the lava from Kilauea volcano reflecting red in the clouds, which was fantastic. If you visit the Big Island, I definitely recommend stargazing.

Four years ago, I went to the summit of Mauna Kea, but due to bad weather, I could only make it to the Onizuka Visitor Center. I was worried about the weather, but it turned out to be perfectly clear, and the sunset was amazing. I took a lot of photos, and they lent me some props for the shoot, which made for some fun pictures. The tour guide encouraged everyone to take photos, and later I received the data. Both the sunset and the starry sky photos turned out beautifully, creating wonderful memories. Thank you for your help!

4年前にマウナケア山頂をしたのですが、天候が悪くオニズカビジターセンターまでしか行けなかったので天気の心配がありましたが、ずっと快晴で文句なしのサンセットでした。　写真をたくさん撮っていただき、撮影小物も貸していただき楽しい写真になりました。　ツアー客みんなに写真の声掛けをして下さり、後にデータをいただきましたが、サンセットも星空の写真もとても綺麗に映っていていい思い出となりました。　お世話になりました！

I had visited the Big Island several times, but this was my first opportunity to go to the summit of Mauna Kea. While it was possible to get to ONIZUKA on our own, it was not feasible to drive to the summit with a rental car (though I heard some people do manage to get in...). Given the concerns about driving on Saddle Road at night, we decided to book a tour.

Since we were staying at Mauna Lani, the tour bus picked us up last. We spent the morning playing at the beach, and the pickup came around 3:45 PM. It was very convenient that they came right to the parking lot of our accommodation. They informed us in advance to avoid alcohol for six hours to prevent altitude sickness and also contacted us about renting warm clothing.

Unfortunately, it was raining when we reached ONIZUKA, so based on the tour guide's judgment, we had our lunch (a bento-style meal with warm miso soup) in the vehicle and hurried to the summit. Fortunately, the summit was clear, and we were able to enjoy the sunset slowly. I was glad we didn’t take our time eating lunch. It was impressive! After that, we descended (there's a rule that you must leave the park after the sunset) and observed the starry sky. There was also warm tea and cookies available. They took many photos for us (no extra charge), and we were very satisfied. The night sky photos that I couldn't capture with my own camera were a highlight. It was a thoroughly enjoyable tour.

I had brought my own warm clothing, but it was really cold, so I was grateful to be able to borrow some. The road to the summit is quite bumpy, and the return trip on Saddle Road is pitch dark. I truly felt it was a good decision to join the tour.

I have also participated in a sunrise tour on Maui, but it was physically demanding, so I recommend the sunset tour. If you have the time, a sunrise tour could be fine, but you will be extremely sleepy afterward.

初めて訪れました
自分たちでONIZUKAまで行く事は可能でしたが、レンタカーでは山頂まで行くことが不可能（中にはいってしまう人もいるそうですが・・・）との事と夜のサドルロードの運転など不安要素もありツアーを予約

マウナラニに滞在していたので、ツアーバスが迎えに来てくださったのが一番最後のでした。
午前中はビーチで遊び、15：45位に迎えが来ました
滞在先の駐車場まで来ていただいたので、とても楽でした
事前に、注意事項として高山病を避けるため6時間はアルコールを控えるよう、また防寒具のレンタルのご連絡などをいただきました
ONIZUKAまで行くとあいにくの雨、ツアーの方の判断で車内でお弁当をいただき（幕ノ内的なものと温かいお味噌汁）急ぎ山頂へ
山頂が晴れていたので、ゆっくりサンセットを楽しむ事ができました
のんびりお弁当食べていなくてよかった
さすがです！
それから、下山（サンセット終わると公園を出ないといけない決まりです）し、星空を観測。温かい紅茶とクッキーもありました
たくさん写真もとっていただき（別途料金不要）大満足でした
自分のカメラでは撮影できない夜空の写真
大満足のツアーでした

防寒着も持参していましたが、本当に寒いのでお借りできたこと
また、山頂までの道がかなり揺れます。そして帰りのサドルロードが真っ暗です。本当にツアーに参加してよかったと思います。

サンライズツアーもマウイ島で参加した事がありますが、体力的にもきついのでサンセットをお勧めいたします。
時間がある方はサンライズでも構わないと思いますが、ツアー後眠くてたまりません。
