Hawaii Zipline Tours - Big Island Waterfall & Rainforest Zip Adventure

Hilo zip line adventure

Reviewed by: Aaron H. , 2014/11/28

Very, very enjoyable experience!

Our tour guides Gabe and Nainoa were not only very personable and welcoming; they were also very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history/facts/culture and accommodating to ALL group members that varied in age (10-50's), and experience. Both were great entertainers and made the experience much more fun!

I would HIGHLY recommend this tour for anyone who has either never zip lined before or has had experience. ESPECIALLY with these two gentlemen if possible. Each line is better than the last and provides awesome scenery and opportunities for great photos.

If you have the chance/time DO THIS TOUR!!!

Thanks Gabe and Nainoa!

Grand Circle Island Tour - Volcano, Black Sand Beach, Waipio Valley & Waterfalls

Excellent Big Island Tour!

Reviewed by: James, 2014/11/26

We were out in Honolulu on our first trip to Hawaii. My girlfriend and I purchased the Small Group Circle Island, Waipio Valley & Volcanoes National Park out of quite a few similar guided tours around the Big island. It was a fun experience that helped us learn quite a lot about the Big Island, geographic facts, ancient legends, etc. This drive is about 10 hours or so and is on and off the beaten path. Different from Honolulu and Oahu, this mostly rural island has its own culture, farmers’ markets, tropical rain forests, and black, green, and white sand beaches. Our tour guide was awesome (and I totally forgot his name) and a great story teller. He was punctual in picking us up from the Kona airport. Although the weather didn't really cooperate that particular day, it was rain and cold, our tour guide made it fun with providing us all kinds of great information as well as a really smooth ride. It was obvious he loves what he does and where he lives. The sights and landscapes were incredible - black, green and white sand beaches, lava fields, waterfalls, etc. Our approximately 250 miles tour (long but fascinating) touched at first the Parker Ranch in Waimea the bay-side town of Hilo and an orchid nursery. We stopped at the Waipio Valley Lookout, a must see location. The lookout offers sweeping views of the valley, which is breathtakingly beautiful even though the weather was very cloudy and it probably took away from the experience. We stopped at the Mauna Loa a macadamia farm and packaging place for lunch and snacks. We stopped at the Rainbow Falls very close to Hilo. It is a shorter visit with great photo ops. An absolutely fabulous view and yes, we did see a rainbow. At the Volcano National Park we saw smoke but no lava flows from the viewing area but walked through a lava tube. The black sand beach is one that is different to anything else we saw so far. We counted 12 turtles resting on the beach. My girlfriend and I highly recommend this guided tour.

Hawaii Zipline Tours - Big Island Waterfall & Rainforest Zip Adventure

EPIC WAY TO SEE THE JUNGLES AND WATERFALLS OF HAWAII!

Reviewed by: Billy Satterfield, 2014/11/23

My wife and I had ziplined once before on Kauai and found it to be an incredible way to see parts of the island you would never get to see otherwise and at a killer perspective. We thought it would be tough to beat our first experience but decided that ziplining over Kolekole waterfalls would be worth a shot; and boy was it! The tour starts with an informative 15 minute drive before embarking on the first zipline. They start you off easy so that you can get a feel for ziplining since it will be a first time experience for many participants. They lines get better and better each run and then the final two lines are nothing short of stunning and worth the price of admission by themselves. The staff and setting were both fantastic and this adventure became one of our most memorable experiences on Hawaii and our best ziplining yet! A must do!

EPIC WAY TO SEE THE JUNGLES AND WATERFALLS OF HAWAII!

Reviewed by: Billy Satterfield, 2014/11/22

My wife and I did a Zipline in Kauai last year and quickly fell in love with the activity. When we went to the Big Island this year we decided to give it another try and see if it was still as thrilling. You take a 15 minute ride through a farm area on your way to the first zipline and the staff gives you information on the plants in the area; both native and non-native to Hawaii. The opening ziplines they take you on are all about helping you feel comfortable for an activity that most participants haven't experienced before. While hanging from a cable may seem scary to some, we quickly felt safe and confident from the start given the equipment and staff's help. Each zipline is longer and better than the previous one and the last two ziplines are nothing short of sensational and worth the price of admission on their own. For a great experience and an opportunity to see a vantage point of Hawaii and its spectacular waterfalls rarely seen, this series of ziplines is a can't miss!

So much fun, not scary at all!

Reviewed by: Christy, 2014/10/26

My husband and I are both slightly scared of heights, but this was just amazeballs! Wasn't scary at all (maybe the van ride out, a bit...). It's like sitting in a swing. Had a good time with our group, and got to taste some fresh bananas, ginger nectar, and sugar cane on the farmland we were traversing. Great fun, wish we could have done more than 7 lines, though,

Segway Off-Road Rain Forest Adventure at World Botanical Gardens [Open Soon]

Segway Tour Needs Improvement

Reviewed by: Rick, 2014/09/06

For the cost, more than $200 for two of us, this Segway event was not worth it. You only spend a short time on the Segway, and are not permitted to enter the rain forest, which is where we really hoped to go. It also felt like the guide was trying to "fill" the advertised time duration of the trip by over-staying at a simple waterfall site, and riding around the botanical grounds, which we could have easily walked. I would not do this again. Sorry for the negative remarks, but it's how we felt.

Zipe lining

Reviewed by: newbie to scuba, 2013/12/22

The garden had many varieties of plants. The zip rides were kind of short. There was also a suspension bridge we walked across. They need to add more and longer zip lines. The few seconds that we zipped across were hardly enough. The guides provided some fruit snacks from the trees as we walked between zip lines and talked about different trees. The water fall and the surrounding ranches with cows sleeping were a nice sight. Though those ranches do not belong to botanical gardens. Staff was very friendly and professional. I did not take Segway tour and chose instead to drive by myself to Hilo. Make sure to drive to Liliuokalani Park in Hilo when you are there. It was a very impressive Japanese garden design.

Pricey

Reviewed by: Nonna, 2012/08/14

As there is a word "volcano" in the name, I sort of assumed I'd be seeing a volcano. And yes, I understand that I made a mistake booking the tour; however, it is easy for somebody who's never been to the islands to not exactly know where stuff is located. Perhaps, renaming the tour to "coast" helicopter tour would be better, just to be perfectly clear. The price is also a bit steep, though I suppose it is not any higher than other companies'.

Great Trip

I went with my family on the volcano deluxe tour out of Kona and it was awesome. The views were amazing and the staff was awesome. Because of the headphones you wear, the noise wasn't even as bad as I expected.

One thing to watch out for if you get motion sick though is that it can get you sick. I'm very susceptible to motion sickness and got sick even with a couple Dramamine pills before the flight (my family was 2/3 of people getting sick on the flight who are susceptible to motion sickness and both people who got sick were in the front of the helicopter). That said, I thought it was still very worth it even with getting sick.

Pure magic

Reviewed by: Roberts Family Australia, 2009/10/20

We were blown away from the start to finish, the magnificance of the island is just unique starting from the hot arid black volcanic rock through to the volcanoe itself and then the beautiful coast on the hilo side to the luscious green valleys of the kings.
We went as a famiy and my children aged 12 and 13 were just as amazed.
Our pilot was great taking us in circles with a running commentry throughout the trip and hovering so that all of us would have plenty of time and sight of everything and plenty of time for photos although they never seem to do it justice. It was certainly the way to see a vast majority of the island, and as much at first glance of the price may make one a little hesitant it was worth every cent.
The only thing that was a bit expensive is getting out to the site itself costing around $90.00 Australian Dollars each way but that may be less if hiring a car or going as a group.Having said that I really dont think that after the experience it will really matter.

Non snorkelers - don't miss out!

Reviewed by: JK, 2008/09/21

I don't know how to swim, and no way would I try snorkeling without even knowing how to float, so this was right up my alley. The staff was engaging and funny and knew a lot about the fish that we saw. We floated over several clusters of coral and although I didn't see anything as cool as a dolphin or manta ray, I did see a variety of exotic fish I had never known outside of an aquarium. Sadly, it's a quick 1 hour because you're so focused on looking at the windows that you lose track of time.

I don't recommend taking tons of pictures like someone here suggested, only because the fish move so fast that you'd probably get bad shots anyway and secondly, you really want to enjoy this uninterrupted without a contraption mounted to your face. Maybe take a snapshot of the first reef so you can tell people "I experienced this," then put the camera away for good.
