We participated with our elementary school-aged children. My wife and kids were a bit unsure about snorkeling in the open ocean for the first time, but thanks to our Japanese guide Daisuke, the whole family was able to enjoy it. We are very grateful. Although there were no prescription masks for the kids, we were still able to see dolphins without glasses (they were that close). When I asked the kids about their favorite memory in Hawaii, they said it was meeting the dolphins on this tour. We would love to use this service again if we have the opportunity.

The staff were really nice.
First, we rode on a boat that felt like a roller coaster and went to the sea in front of the Sheraton Hotel.
It was so much fun riding the fast boat while watching the sunset!
Once we reached the spot, we grabbed onto a surfboard with lights underneath and waited for the manta rays while looking at the fish below.
Seeing the manta rays in person was impressive—huge, close, and mysterious!

The sea temperature where we went is said to be the warmest throughout the year, so I didn't feel too cold at first.
However, snorkeling while staying still for a long time, even in such warm water, became quite chilly. Lying face down with my back and heels exposed made it very cold.

It felt like about 30 minutes?

Honestly, it felt long. After getting back on land, I was incredibly seasick and ended up vomiting into the sea, haha.
I've snorkeled many times before, but this was my first time feeling that way.
Another fish came by, which was fun to see, haha.

However, I noticed other tour guests were feeling the same way, so I thought some kind of motion sickness remedy might be necessary.

Staying still for such a long time while looking down at the fish became painful as time passed, especially with the cold.

I would appreciate it if there could be some time to lift our heads and move around, or take a break on the board to avoid staying still for too long.

We saw plenty of manta rays and fish, and the night sea was mysterious and very beautiful! The staff were also really great! I learned some fun facts about manta rays, which made me like them even more.

I think it would be an outstanding tour if there were just some measures for motion sickness!

まず、ジェットコースターのようなボートに乗って、シェラトンホテルの前の海に行きます。
夕日を見ながら、勢いの良いボートに乗るのはとっても楽しかったです！！
ポイントについたら、下にライトのついたサーフボートに捕まってうつ伏せのような形で下の魚を見ながらマンタを待ちます。
マンタは実際見てみると、でかい！近い！ミステリアス！迫力ありました。

私たちが行った海の気温は年間通して一番暖かいと言われていて、最初はそこまで寒さを感じませんでした。
ただ、ずっと動かないで待機した状態でのシュノーケルは、そんな暖かい海でもさすがにかなり冷えてきます。うつ伏せになっていて、背中やかかとは出ている状態なので、とても寒い。

体感時間30分くらい？

正直、長い。と思いました。
陸に上がった後、尋常じゃないくらいに酔って、海に向かって思いっきり嘔吐　笑
シュノーケルは何度もやったことありますが、初めて。
また別の魚が寄ってきて観れたので、それはそれで楽しかったです　笑

ただ、他のツアーのお客様もそのようになっていたので、少し酔い対策見たいなものは必要かな？と思いました。

じっとしているのがとにかく長く、魚を下を向いて見ているのが時間が経つごとに寒さとともに苦痛になってくる。

なので、顔を上げて動く時間や、一回休憩を挟んでボードで休むなど、じっとしたままじゃな時間を作ってほしいです。

マンタも魚もたくさん見れて、夜の海はミステリアスでとても綺麗！スタッフさんもとっても良い！マンタのプチ知識なども知れて、マンタがより好きになりました☆

酔い対策さえあれば抜群のツアーだと思いました♪

On October 17, 2016, I participated in a helicopter tour of the Big Island starting at 8:20 AM. It was my first time on a helicopter, so I was both nervous and excited. The moment we took off was just as I imagined, and the sensation of rising was incredibly interesting. The helicopter I boarded had windows made of clear acrylic down to the floor, giving me a real feeling of floating in the air, which was amazing.

We took off at 9:20 AM and headed towards the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater, passing over a U.S. Army base. It didn’t look as red as it did the night before, but due to recent significant magma rise, I could see some red lava moving in parts of the crater. The helicopter continued flying along the coast, where we witnessed the lava ocean entry. This is where lava flowing from the crater enters the sea, causing the water to boil violently and steam to rise, creating a spectacular sight.

After that, we landed at Hilo Airport to refuel and took off again 15 minutes later. This was also a restroom break for us. In the second half of the tour, we flew north along the east coast and saw the waterfalls in Waipiʻo Valley, which can only be accessed by helicopter. When the helicopter got close to the cliffs to see the waterfall up close, it was thrilling.

On the way back, we ascended above the clouds and enjoyed the view of the sea of clouds and the towering Mauna Kea. After a safe landing, we returned to the hotel and went shopping at a large shopping mall called Queens' Marketplace until it was time for our flight back to Oahu. I bought local specialties like Kona coffee here. This concluded the main event of my trip.

その後、ヒロ空港に給油のため着陸し15分後離陸しました。
人間は、ここでトイレ休憩でした。
後半は東沿岸を北上し、ヘリでしか行くことのできないワイピオ渓谷の滝を見ました。
滝を間近で見るため断崖絶壁のすぐそばまでヘリが近づいたときはスリル満点でした。
帰りは雲の上まで上昇し、雲海とそびえたつマウナケア山を鑑賞しました。
無事着陸後、ホテルに戻りオアフ島に帰る飛行機の時間まで
クイーンズ・マーケットプレイスという大型ショッピングモールに行き買い物をしました。
ここで地元特産のコナコーヒーなどを買いました。
こうして今回の旅のメインイベントが終わりました。

I came to Hawaii Island from Japan, excited for a vacation! This was my first trip to Hawaii, and I spent a full week on the island. Living in nature was incredibly refreshing.

We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village condominium. Since there was no shuttle service to the tour destination, we headed to Honokohau Marina with the rental car we had. We drove south on Highway 19, turned right onto Kealakehe Parkway, and quickly spotted the blue-roofed mall, so we didn't get lost.

We arrived a bit early, so we explored the area and found it to be a charming port town, which heightened our excitement! Upon entering the building, we were greeted by an elderly man with white hair. Since I hardly speak any English, I managed to say "Good morning," and he responded with a smile. When I conveyed that I didn't understand English, he handed me a notice and consent form written in Japanese, along with an explanation of the tour and the sights.

There were about 14 participants in total, including two groups from Japan and three family groups from America (among them were four children in elementary school).

As we boarded the boat, we spotted rays in the harbor, which heightened our anticipation! Just 1-2 minutes after departing, wild dolphins appeared, and everyone was thrilled! It was amazing to see wild dolphins swimming alongside the boat and jumping, as if welcoming us!

Our destination was the site of Captain Cook's memorial! We sped across the sea, feeling the wind, but it was quite bumpy and sunny. Sunscreen and rash guards are essential.

The snorkeling point was in a calm cove with excellent visibility, and there were plenty of fish! My companion, who isn't a strong swimmer, was initially scared, but once we got into the water, they became engrossed and enjoyed snorkeling.

After about an hour of snorkeling, we returned to the boat, where homemade sandwiches were served. They were delicious! During several breaks, we also enjoyed snacks, juice, and pineapple! Eating on the water was an extraordinary experience, and the pineapple cut fresh by the captain was especially tasty! Break times were flexible, so even those without much stamina can participate comfortably.

After snorkeling, we were able to rinse off our hair and bodies with a shower! After that, we were guided to the sights. The guidance was all in English, which I couldn't fully understand, but I could grasp the general idea.

On the way back, we saw dolphins again, and when we returned to the harbor, we spotted a sea turtle, making the tour very satisfying!

However, since the captain's guidance was entirely in English, I think it would have been even more enjoyable if I understood English. If I could wish for something, having a Japanese guide would be ideal.

Overall, I was very satisfied, so I highly recommend it!

For those participating, I would like to share a few tips:
1. Be sure to bring sunscreen.
2. A rash guard or long sleeves; women should wear half pants over their swimsuits.
3. If you don't want to rent a mask and snorkel, bring your own.
4. A waterproof camera.

I think these items would be helpful!

私たちはワイコロアにあるヒルトンキンクスランドのコンドミニアムに宿泊。
今回はツアー先まで送迎なしだったので借りていたレンタルカーで現地ホノコハウ・マリーナへ向かいました。
19号線をひたすら南下し、Kealakehe Pkwyを右折、すぐに目印の青い屋根のモールが見えたので迷いませんでした。

少し早めに着いたので周りを散策するととても雰囲気のある港町で楽しみが増して来ました！
建物に入ると白髪の老父がお出迎え！英語がほとんど話せない私はなんとか「グットモーニング」と話仕掛けると笑顔で対応してくれましたが英語はわかりませんと伝えると日本語の書いてある注意事項と同意書、そして今回のツアーの内容と名所の説明書きを渡されました。
実際に参加したのは私たちを含め日本から二組、アメリカから来ていたご家族グループ三組と14人位が参加(中には小学生低学年程のお子様も4人いました)

ボートに乗り込む時港にはエイが現れ、ワクワクが高まります！港を出港して1〜2分で野生のイルカが現れみんなで興奮しました！
まさかいきなり野生のイルカが現れてボートと並行して泳いだり、ジャンプしたりとまるで歓迎してくれているようでした！

目的地はキャプテン・クックの慰霊碑がある場所へ！海上を物凄いスピードで進み、風を感じられますが、激しい揺れと強い陽射しでした。
日焼け止めとラッシュガードは必需品です。

シュノーケリングポイントは波のない入江の小湾のような場所で透明度抜群で魚もたくさんいました！
泳ぐのが苦手な連れは最初は怖がっていましたが、いざ海に入ると夢中になって普通にシュノーケリングして楽しんでいました。

小一時間くらいシュノーケリングを楽しみ一度ボートに戻るとお手製のサンドイッチが振舞われました。それがとても美味しかったです！他にも数回の休憩中にスナックやジュース、パイナップルも！海上で食べる非日常の体験とても良かったです！キャプテンがその場で切ってくれたパイナップルもても美味しかったです！休憩は時間などは自分たち次第なので体力のない方でも安心して行えます。

シュノーケリングが終わるとシャワーで髪や青を洗わせてくれます！
シュノーケリング後に名所へ案内してくれました。ガイダンスは全て英語で理解できませんでしたが、なんとなくニュアンスでわかる？感じでした。

帰る途中もイルカが現れたり、港に戻るとウミガメが現れたりツアーとしては大満足出来ました！

ただキャプテンのガイドが全て英語だったので英語が理解できていればもっと楽しいと思います。贅沢を言えば日本語ガイドが付いていれば最高です。

トータル的にすごく満足できたのでオススメです！

参加する方にお伝えしたいことは
1.必ず日焼け止めを持っていく
2.ラッシュガード、もしくは長袖、女性は水着の上に履くハーフパンツ
3.マスク、シュノーケルのレンタルが嫌な方は自前の物を
4.水中用カメラ
を持っていくと良いと思います。

I recently participated in an event. On the day of the event, the departure was delayed due to the ship we were boarding, but we were taken to a spot nearby where we could see sea turtles. I was very happy to see the turtles up close. Of course, we also encountered manta rays!

As mentioned in other comments, please be aware that the meeting point is quite difficult to find. I have attached a photo of the location, but here are the key points a to c:
a. There are no stores or signs at the location.
b. There is a large parking area on the north side of the bay, so please park your car there. The restroom in the middle of the parking area should serve as a landmark.
c. In one corner of that parking lot, there is a waiting area with a yellow wall and a blue roof, which is the meeting point. The yellow and blue should help you identify it.

I have three pieces of advice for preparation based on our reflections:
1. I recommend taking motion sickness medication before participating. Even if you don't get seasick, you might feel queasy from the ocean waves!

他の方のコメントにもありますが集合場所がとてもわかりにくいため、注意してください。現地の写真を添付しましたが、次のa〜cがポイントです。
a.現地に店舗や看板はありません。
b.湾の北側に大きな駐車スペースがあるので、そこに車を止めましょう。駐車スペースの真ん中にトイレがあるのが目印となると思います。
c.その駐車場の隅の一画に黄色の壁で青色の屋根の待機スペースがあり、そこが集合場所となっています。黄色と青色が目印になるはずです。
事前準備としてのアドバイスが3点あります。我々の反省点を踏まえて1〜3に記載しますので参考になさってください。
1.酔い止めを飲んで参加することをお勧めします。船に酔わなくても海の波に酔ってしまうこともありますので要注意です！
2.帰りの船は海に濡れたまま走行するので寒いです。ホテルのバスタオル位分厚くて大きなのを持っていくと防寒になりますのでオススメです！
3.船に持込む袋はビニールをかぶせるか防水の効いた物が良いと思います。現地に行くまでの船上、海の波しぶきが飛んでくるので、荷物も含めて全身濡れてしまいますので！

The Japanese guide, Daisuke, who came to pick us up, was very friendly and wonderful, making the bus ride enjoyable from the start. We were really surprised by how many dolphins we encountered right from the beginning. There are many dolphin tours available, but I'm really glad I participated in this one. If you want to swim with dolphins on the Big Island, I definitely recommend this tour. I want to join again, so I will work hard to save money and go back once I can dive.

The sunset was amazing!! The view of the sea of clouds spreading out and turning a beautiful orange was truly wonderful. I don't think you can see such a beautiful landscape anywhere else. Also, on this tour, I was moved to see the Subaru Observatory, which Japan takes pride in. After watching the sunset, we did some stargazing!! The moon was out, but it was still very beautiful, and I could see quite a few stars, so I was very satisfied. I definitely recommend everyone to join this experience.

The guide was friendly and the explanations were easy to understand. Since we had extra time, we were able to visit a beautiful local beach as well. The sunset at Mauna Kea and the starry sky were truly amazing. I don't have any climbing experience, but it was easy since we could drive to the top. They also lent us warm clothing, which made it comfortable. The lunch was very delicious. I participated alone, but the guide was considerate and took photos for me, and I was able to talk with others on the same tour, which was nice.

ガイドさんがフレンドリーで、説明もわかりやすかった。時間が余ったので地元の
綺麗なビーチに追加で回ってもらえた。

Seeing dozens of dolphins under the blue sky... this tour became a lifelong memory. I would love to participate again if I go to the Big Island.

Even if you're not confident in swimming, you can easily join alone. The members when I participated were a group of three women on a trip, a newlywed couple, a husband and wife, and a solo foreign traveler. Everyone was full of energy, and while we were on the water, they would smile and ask, "Did you see the dolphins? There was a baby dolphin too!" It made me really happy to share the excitement even as a solo traveler.

And the guide was wonderful. They loved dolphins and seemed happier than anyone else on the tour, which made it so much fun to be around. It was truly an enjoyable tour. I highly recommend it. Thank you so much to the guide, the staff, and all the members.

The meeting place was not marked by a large sign like you would find at tourist attractions, but rather a regular ranch building, which made it a bit difficult to find. However, we managed to arrive by relying on the car navigation system. After reading a very simple horseback riding guide written in Japanese, we put on our helmets and immediately mounted the horses to set off. That day, it was just the two of us and a female guide. The horses were well-trained and walked slowly along a predetermined course without us having to do much, so I didn't feel any danger at all. We enjoyed over an hour of horseback riding in a vast hilly ranch surrounded by stunning views of the sea and mountains. Along the way, we also encountered herds of cows and sheep. This is an experience that you definitely can't have in Japan, and I highly recommend it.

This was by far the best tour we had done in Hawaii. Marcus the tour guide was top notch. Marcus knew so much about the area, the culture, plants, animals and was just a funny great person to be around. You ride in style in the plush Mercedes van. He took you to many different area's and we even got to see lava flowing, served lunch and to end the night a 5 star restaurant. Everything was included in your price of your tour. By far a MUST do while in Hawaii. You will not be disappointed in this tour or Marcus.

I visited the Big Island to see manta rays on my first trip to Hawaii. I took a taxi to the meeting point at Honokohau Harbor, but I wasn't sure where the exact location was, so I wandered around the area for a while... Fortunately, with the help of some kind people nearby, I managed to find it, but I recommend that first-timers sign up for a shuttle service.

Before boarding, our Japanese guide, Tori-chan, provided detailed explanations about the precautions, the ecology of the manta rays, and their history. Each manta ray has its own name, and Tori-chan and the other guides said they can tell them apart!

It took about 20 to 30 minutes by boat to reach the manta ray point. Once we arrived, we held onto a boogie board with LED lights and floated in the water (the light attracts plankton, which the manta rays come to eat). After about 10 minutes, the water became murky with the plankton drawn to the light. Just when I thought, "The visibility is getting worse...", there was a manta ray right beneath me!

The manta ray came towards the plankton swarming around our boogie board (attracted by the LED light)! It circled around the area of the boogie board once or twice. After that, several more manta rays swirled around us! I was so excited to see the manta rays swimming gracefully up close!!!

When we got back on the boat, it was a bit chilly (since we participated in October, the water temperature might have been a little low). While warm drinks were provided, it’s a good idea to bring a jacket or a bath towel. Also, there were a few people who got seasick... I strongly recommend taking motion sickness medication.

I had a very enjoyable and valuable experience. Thank you so much to the staff!

乗船する前に日本人ガイドのトリちゃんさんが注意事項やマンタの生態、歴史などについて詳しく説明してくれました。マンタにはそれぞれ名前が付いていて、トリちゃんさんや他のガイドさんは見分けられると言っていました！
マンタのポイントまでは船で20~30分程度。ポイントに到着するとLEDライトのついたビート板に捕まり海をプカプカ(LEDライトの光にプランクトンが寄ってきて、それをマンタが食べに来る)。10分程度すると光に寄ってきたプランクトンで海中は濁ります。「視界が悪くなってきたなぁ...」と思った瞬間、足元にはマンタが！
私たちの捕まるビート板の(LEDライトの光に群がる)プランクトンめがけて、マンタがやってきました！
1~2回、ビート板の付近を縦に旋回してくれました。その後も何匹かのマンタが私たちの周りをクルクルと！
優雅に泳ぐマンタをとても近くで見る事が出来て大興奮！！！

船から上がると少し寒いです(私たちが参加したのは10月だったので、少し水温は低かったかもしれません)。暖かい飲み物は頂けますが、上着やバスタオルは持って行った方が良いですね。
あと、船酔いする人もチラホラと...。酔い止めは飲むことを強くお勧めします。

とても楽しく、貴重な体験をさせて頂きました。スタッフの方々、本当にありがとうございました。

I participated in the tour on October 1st. I heard that the chances of seeing the starry sky are only about 10% throughout the year, which raised my expectations quite a bit. I reached the summit of Mauna Kea without suffering from altitude sickness, but there were quite a few clouds, making me wonder if I would fall into that 10%.

The sunset at the summit was blocked by clouds, so it wasn't a particularly moving experience, but the landscape with many observatories was satisfying enough. After that, we moved to a lower area where the chances of seeing stars were higher. As we were moving, the beautiful starry sky began to appear, raising my hopes once again.

The excitement I felt when we moved to a place where we could see the stars and looked up at the sky is something I still can't forget now that I'm back home. Since childhood, I've had a hobby of stargazing (although as an adult, I hardly had time to look at the stars), and I remembered quite a few names of stars and constellations. However, the starry sky I looked up at was completely different from the skies in Japan, with the sheer number of stars and the Milky Way clearly visible.

My wife and I were very satisfied with the dazzling starry sky, where the names of stars and constellations were hard to distinguish. The guide's explanations were also wonderful, and I was impressed by how well they had studied. I was told that if I participated from May to July, I might see the Northern Cross of Cygnus and the Southern Cross, which can only be seen in the Southern Hemisphere, and I thought I would like to participate again as I headed home. Thank you for the wonderful experience of the starry sky.

星空が見える場所に移動し、空を見上げた時の感動は、帰国した今でも忘れられません。
子供のころから、天体観測が趣味で(成人してからは、ほとんど星を見る時間もありませんでしたが)、星や星座の名前はそれなりに覚えていました。
しかし、見上げた星空は、星の数の多さ、天の川がはっきりと見えること等、日本の星空とはまったく異っていました。
星や、星座名もはっきりしないくらい、星々が光り輝く星空に、女房ともども大満足でした。
また、ガイドの方の解説もすばらしく、よく勉強されているなと感心させられました。
５月から７月ごろ参加すると、白鳥座の北十字星と、南半球しか見えない南十字星が見えるかもと言う解説もあり、また参加したいと思い帰路につきました。
星空の感動、ありがとうございました。

I participated in a tour for my honeymoon. During the day, I saw dolphins at Dolphin High School, then strolled around the town of Kona, and at night, I enrolled directly into Manta University! Since I had rented a car, I joined the group on-site. (The location can be hard to find on the map, so I recommend arriving early.)

There were about three staff members and around 15 customers. The Japanese instructor, Tori, was very cheerful and friendly. There was also an American captain and another American instructor. English-speaking guests were on the same board, heading to the spot while watching the sunset.

Once we arrived at the spot, we held onto a board with blue lights and waited for the manta rays to arrive while snorkeling. At first, they didn't come, and I thought I was getting tired, but then two manta rays appeared right in front of me and started swirling around! We weren't allowed to touch them, but the waves made our bodies sway quite a bit, and I thought I might bump into a manta ray (laughs).

There were also divers at the bottom, shining underwater flashlights to create blue lights. It felt like being in outer space.

I got pretty tired from the swaying, but it was a great experience.

ポイントに着いたら、ブルー色の照明が積んであるボードに捕まって、スノーケリング状態でマンタの到来を待つ。最初はなかなか来なくて、疲れたなと思ったら、2枚のマンタが目の前に来てぐるぐる回り始めました！手で触ってはいけないのですが、波で体はかなり揺れるので、マンタにぶつかるかと思いました（笑）。
水底にはダイビングの方もいて、水中電灯でブルー色の明かりを照らしていました。宇宙にいるような感覚でした。
揺れで結構疲れましたが、いい体験となりました。

I took a taxi from the hotel in Kailua-Kona. I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was just over $30 including the tip. When I told the taxi driver "Keauhou Bay," he asked, "Which tour company?" so I said "Fair Wind," and he took me there. The driver also checked the return time at the tour desk and came to pick me up.

At Kealakekua Bay, I encountered a pod of dolphins. Two of them came right up to the front of the boat and even jumped. I'm not sure what the chances are of seeing dolphins, but it seems to happen fairly regularly.

As for snorkeling, while the fish population wasn't very dense, I think it was enjoyable enough.

The food was quite good for being served on a boat. However, it seemed that the coffee ran out halfway through, so it was disappointing that there were only cold drinks available during lunch.

Since you might be exposed to direct sunlight in some areas of the boat, I think it's a good idea to have a hat and a rash guard.

船の上では場所によっては直射日光を浴びることになるので、帽子とラッシュガードがあったほうが良いと思います。

Both of us were a bit anxious since it was our first time riding horses, but we had a lot of fun. The horse was quite stubborn, but that added to its charm. We rode up a small stream, and the hour and a half went by in no time. They lend you a bag to keep your valuables in while in the saddle, so we were able to put our camera and water bottles in it.

二人とも初乗馬で不安でしたが、結構楽しめました。
なかなか言うことの聞かない馬でしたが、それも愛嬌でした。
