Tour actually worked out better than expected. The tour vans are nice and new, the guides are nice and knowledgeable. You go right to the telescope summit and watch the sunrise followed by a great star gazing experience.

The guide, Herald, was friendly and kept the group energized during the long drive. He shared a lot of local information about Hawaii. If you understand English, I think it's easier to participate than in a Japanese tour.

Although the weather in Kona was nice on the day of the tour, it rained as we got closer to Mauna Kea, and I was worried about the weather at the summit. However, when we arrived at the top, it was above the clouds, so there was no need to worry.

The summit of Mauna Kea was really cold. Even with a light down jacket and four layers underneath, plus a large down jacket they provided, I still felt cold. Despite the warnings about needing a jacket and long pants, some people didn't prepare, and it seemed quite cold, so they ended up spending most of the time on the bus, which was disappointing to see. (So, warm clothing is essential.)

There were parts where we joined other group tours, which made it hard to hear the explanations, and there were often car lights and white lights that are strictly prohibited for stargazing. However, I was able to see shooting stars multiple times, which was moving! I highly recommend it.

あれだけ注意事項に上着必須、長ズボンと書いてあっても用意していない人もいて、かなり寒かったらしくバスの中でほとんどを過ごすこととなり、見ていて残念でした。(そのため、防寒具必須です)
ほかの団体ツアーと一緒になる部分もあり、説明が聞き取れなかったり、星を見るには厳禁の車のライトやホワイトライトが行き交うことも多かったですが、流れ星を何度も見ることができ、感動的でした！お勧めです。

I prepared for the cold by bringing a hoodie, a rash guard, and slacks, as it was mentioned in advance to dress in layers. I thought it would be just right to receive warm clothing at the 2,800-meter "Onizuka Visitor Center." However, when I reached the summit, it was quite windy and very cold! I borrowed gloves, but it was still chilly. I seriously wished I had a sweater. The view from the top was fantastic, possibly because the air was so clear. The sunset was beautiful. At night, since the moon wasn't out, I was able to observe many stars, and the guide explained the constellations using a laser pointer, which was a lot of fun. I was impressed by the guide's extensive knowledge!

What surprised me was that I could see the "Hubble Space Telescope" flying right above the tour! It became a great memory.

Without suffering from altitude sickness, I witnessed a beautiful sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea. For some reason, I found myself in tears. Then, at a parking lot a little lower down, we enjoyed a starry sky. It was a luxurious time lying down together just to gaze at the stars. Kon-chan's explanations were easy to understand.

It was a perfect night with a sky full of stars, with no moon in sight. It was an experience I will never forget.

The tour was very interesting and Arthur our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the region. He answered all of our questions about the local environment as well as the history of the Hawaiian people.

It was cold at the summit and a sweatshirt should be worn if you cannot handle the cold even with the atlantic parka and gloves that is supplied.

The stargazing spot was incredibly clear and we could see hundreds of stars. We were also able to spot Venus, Jupiter, and several star systems through the telescopes provided.

　マウナケアの山頂は、寒いです。上下のウェアを貸してくれるので、自分で薄手のダウンとハイソックスの靴下とスマホができる手袋を持っていきました。手袋も貸してもらえますが、分厚いのでカメラの操作をするには不自由です。

The ride to the Onizuka Visitor Center was smooth along the paved road. At the visitor center, we had a bento box and miso soup, put on our warm clothing, and then ascended the unpaved road all the way up to 4,200 meters. The summit was very cold, and the wind exceeded 20 meters per second. The landscape resembled Mars, providing an experience that you can't have in Japan. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't favorable, and we couldn't enjoy a clear starry sky, but our guide, Mr. Kono, searched various spots to show us the stars. We later revisited Mauna Kea State Park on another day with a rental car. That time, we were blessed with clear skies and were able to enjoy a number of stars that can't be seen in Japan. Thank you very much, Mr. Kono, for everything.

3月後半、家族4人でマウナケア山頂　サンセット＆星空ツアーに参加。13人乗りのバスは日本人で満席に。途中、オニズカビジターセンターまでは、舗装された道路で順調。ビジターセンターでお弁当に味噌汁、防寒着を着て、舗装されていない道路を登り、一路4200mまで。頂上はとても寒く、また風も風速20mを超える状況。また、風景も火星を思わせるような景観で日本では経験できない環境を体験することができました。あいにく天気には恵まれず、晴天の星空を楽しむことはできませんでしたが、何とか星空を見せようとガイドのコンノさんはいろんな場所を探してくれました。途中立ち寄っていただいたマウナケア州立公園には、別の日に自分たちでレンタカーで再訪。そのときは晴天に恵まれて、日本では見られない数の星を楽しむことができました。コンノさん、いろいろありがとうございました。

Mauna Kea was closed due to bad weather, so unfortunately, I couldn't reach the summit, but I was satisfied with the beautiful sunset along the beach and the starry sky afterward. I was a bit worried about whether we would be able to see the sunset and the starry sky due to the cloudy weather, but our guide, Matsuzaki-san, really lifted our spirits. The members I was with were also fun and had great energy, making the car ride enjoyable. I participated with my daughter. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy the whole time, and since we were dealing with nature, I had resigned myself to that being half the experience. However, thanks to our guide's persistence, we were rewarded in the last few minutes when the stars spread out between the clouds. It was worth it. Thank you very much. I would like to try going during the dry season next time.

The scenery was truly stunning. At the summit of Mauna Kea, the wind was very strong, and I felt that the perceived temperature was quite low, but since they lent us warm clothing (with ski pants!), I didn't feel too cold (although my friend who was with me seemed to be quite cold). This was one tour we will never forget! The views from the top of Mauna Kea are indescribable. You truly feel that you are on top of the world! The other positive parts of the adventure - the tour was well organize with attention to safety, tour guide Geraldo was very knowledgeable, the food was delicious and the others on the tour were a hoot to spend an evening with. If you go, be sure to dress warmly! The coats provided were great, but it was chilly prior to going up. We highly recommend this tour!

I participated at the end of June 2017.
The sunset was very beautiful.
It was cold at the summit.
They lent me warm clothing, but since I'm sensitive to the cold, I brought extra layers to wear underneath.
The sun sets quickly, so it's better to use the restroom early.
The starry sky was visible three days after the new moon.
During a full moon, the light is so strong that the stars are hard to see.
The guide was cheerful and kept the atmosphere lively, so I didn't get bored during the drive.
They also took a lot of photos and provided them for free later on.

夕日がとてもきれいでした。
山頂は寒かったです。
防寒具を貸してくれましたが、寒がりなので他に中に着るものを持参して着てました。
沈むときはあっという間に沈むのでトイレは早めに済ませたほうが良さそうです。
星空は新月の３日後でしたがよく見えました。
満月ですと光が強くて星がよく見えないようです。

It's been years since I've felt this moved. Our guide, M, carefully taught us about local gourmet food, traffic rules, and manners. The next day, we had a long drive to Hilo, so it was very helpful. M was fun to talk to and very considerate, making the bus ride relaxing. We had lunch at the Onizuka Center, and although I had no expectations, it was unexpectedly delicious (laughs). I had eaten a hearty lunch beforehand, so I wasn't hungry, which was a bit disappointing.

Then, it was time for the hike. I was so sleepy—just incredibly tired. M tried to keep us awake with conversation, but I was still drowsy. Somehow, we made it to the summit. "Is this Earth? Is this Hawaii?" I couldn't find the words. M became a guide because she participated in this tour. She said, "My life changed." While watching the sunset sinking into the sea of clouds with my wife, I cried. Somehow, the worries I had seemed small and insignificant when I saw that sunset. (Though once I return to Japan, I'll probably be back to worrying about little things again.)

After that, we moved down to stargaze. At first, there weren't many stars, and I thought, "Well, this is it." But gradually, more stars appeared, and before I knew it, I was looking at a sky sprinkled with stars, and I cried again. The sunset was amazing, but the starry sky was also heart-stirring. M carefully explained the constellations using a laser pointer. Along the way, the warm tea and biscuits were delicious too. Finally, after we got off the bus, M dashed back to deliver my forgotten sunglasses. I was moved that she took the time to check for lost items. I can't express how much I was touched. そして、いざ、登山。『眠い』とにかく眠い。Mちゃんがいろいろ眠気さましに、お話しするが眠い。
なんとか、山頂につきました。『ここ、地球？』『ここﾊﾜｲ？』言葉にならないです。Mちゃんがｶﾞｲﾄﾞさんに転職したのは、このﾂｱｰに参加したから。『人生かわりました』とのこと。雲海に沈みゆく夕陽を家内と見ながら、泣いてました。なんか、悩んでることなんか、このサンセットおみると、小さく、どうでもよいことののうに思えてきました。（日本に帰りしばらくするとまた、小さいことに悩む日々ですが）そのあと、下に移動して星空観賞。最初は、あまり星がなく、『まあ、こんなもんか』と思っていたら、徐々に星がでてきて、気が付けば、お星さまを振りまいた空を見、また涙。ｻﾝｾｯﾄも最高だったけど、星空も心揺さぶる。ﾚｰｻﾞｰﾎﾟｲﾝﾀｰを使いながら、丁寧に星座の説明をしてくれる。途中で暖かい紅茶とﾋﾞｽｹｯﾄも美味しかった。最後に、ﾊﾞｽを降た後、Mちゃんが猛ダッシュ、で『ｻﾝｸﾞﾗｽ！』と忘れ物と届けてくれた。ちゃんと忘れ物の確認してることに、ここでも感動。どれだけ、感動したんだろう。他の参加者の方も、ﾏﾅｰが良く、とても快適でした。今度は、ﾏｻｼでﾏｳﾅｹｱに行きたいですね。

Unfortunately, the summit was closed due to snow, so we had to give up on the sunset. However, we descended a bit and found a spot without clouds, where we were able to see the most amazing starry sky. This was all thanks to our fantastic guide. He helped us find the location and provided detailed explanations about the Orion constellation, the Andromeda Nebula, and various other constellations using a telescope. I owe a big thanks to JIN OTAKA from your group’s nature school and his great partner. Thank you!

I accidentally forgot to give a tip, so I called your company and arranged to leave it at the hotel front desk for Jin to pick up later, which relieved me. It would have been too regrettable not to do so after such a fun guiding experience. I highly recommend everyone to take advantage of this service!
