  • Go early in the day. Try to get to Electric Beach early in the morning when visibility is at its best and when wildlife is most active.
  • Don’t touch anything! Remember that you are visiting their home, so be respectful and don’t disturb or damage any of the coral or other wildlife while snorkeling around Electric Beach.
  • Always check in with local surf conditions before hitting the water.  Regardless of when you decide to go snorkeling at Electric Beach, some areas may pose a larger risk than others due to strong currents or high waves.

When is the Best Time to Go Snorkeling?

When it comes to the best time for snorkeling at Electric Beach in Hawaii, you’ll want to make sure you plan your visit around the peak times of the year.  Early morning hours are the best time to visit to avoid crowded times and to take advantage of the calm sea conditions.  Generally speaking, summer months are the most popular for snorkeling due to warm water temperatures and calmer seas. However, winter storms can bring up interesting aquatic life that may not be seen during other seasons.

For more experienced snorkelers, winter brings the opportunity to explore deeper depths in search of sunken ships and coral reefs without threat of strong currents or jellyfish stings. During these months, also look out for Honu (Hawaiian sea turtles) as they come closer to shore for a break from the cold ocean temperatures. If you prefer warmer waters and sunny skies with calm currents, then the period between April and October is ideal. The sunniest days tend to occur from July through August, when visitors can expect crystal clear visibility and an abundance of colorful fish swimming through vibrant coral reefs.
