Kauai’s mountain tubing adventure offers a unique blend of history, nature, and excitement. Operated exclusively by Kauai Backcountry Adventures, this activity allows participants to float through hand-dug irrigation canals and tunnels dating back to the 1870s, fed by water from Mount Waialeale. While the experience is designed to be safe and enjoyable for a wide range of ages, it’s essential to understand the safety measures, age limits, and requirements in place to ensure a fun and secure adventure.

Safety Measures

Safety is a top priority for Kauai Backcountry Adventures. Participants are provided with essential safety gear, including helmets, headlamps, gloves, and inner tubes. Life jackets are also provided for children. These items are crucial for navigating the tunnels and ensuring protection throughout the journey. Each tour is guided by trained professionals who lead the group, provide safety instructions, and assist participants as needed. The canals are typically around 3 to 4 feet deep, allowing participants to stand if necessary, which adds an extra layer of safety. It’s important to note that the activity is not recommended for individuals with back, hip, or knee problems, or for those who are claustrophobic. Pregnant women up to the first trimester may participate with written physician approval.
