Awesome cruise!

Posted on: 2016/05/30

This cruise is just as advertised, a nicely narrated cruise down the southern coast from Kailua-Kona to Capt. Cook's monument. We had amazing visits from the spinner dolphins, had drinks and appetizers on the way out to the cove, and a local guitarist playing for us throughout the trip. The dinner was good, there was plenty to eat for everybody. The sunset was also very beautiful.

A little bit challenging, but fun!

The voucher we printed was a little confusing. It had the correct zip code and address, but the wrong location in one area, and the correct location in another. Leave early so you can find the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and the Hulakai Beach Hut. It is NOT at the Waikoloa Resort. We got there right on time and met Chris at the hut. He was very nice and friendly, low key and patient. I guess he's done this a lot with us novices! The cove was flat and glassy, and easy to get back on the board if you fall. After some practice in the cove, he lead us out past the breakers into a little more challenging water, but still not horribly choppy. Turned around and headed back into the cove. I had an easier time, so it may be more difficult for some people than others. Relax as best you can, keep looking up and you should be well on your way!

Wonderful excursion!

Got picked up in Kona about mid-day by Amanda and ended up with a small group of four people total. She was very friendly, welcoming, personable and knowledgeable. She was chatty in a good way and kept us engaged throughout the trip. First stop was the Punalu'u bakery for sandwiches in the gazebo on bakery grounds. Spent a little time touring the small garden and picked up some of their doughnuts for a treat later. Next stop was Black Sands beach, was hoping to see the sea turtles sunning themselves but only saw a couple in the water. On next to the National Park, saw the Volcano Lodge, Kilauea Iki lava bed, rainbow rocks, lava tubes, steam vents, and Jagger museum. Had dinner at the Kilauea military camp cafeteria which was interesting and unexpected. Very cool tour, great guide. Two thumbs up from us!
