Awesome Hike!!!

Posted on: 2015/06/19

We met Keola Nui at the North Shore Market Place, he introduced himself and let us know we would be the only ones on the hike that day. We could not have asked for a better guide. Nui was very knowledgeable about the land we were going to be hiking on, letting us know about the different farms along the road to the trail. He explained the history behind the current lay out of the farms. When we arrived at the trailhead, there was a light mist falling as Nui offered a prayer to the land in the native tongue to reassure it that we were there on peaceful terms. The trail itself was unbelievably beautiful. There were moments where we were complete enclosed in the jungle, then, it would open up to expose the sky and the mountain stream below. Again, Nui was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna, explaining the difference between the native and invasive plants. We encountered a few berries along the trail that we were able to sample, they tasted very much like raspberries. We hiked in for a couple of hours and ended up having lunch on some rocks in the middle of the stream, very cool!!! We then headed back, though there was much more to be seen, we were on a schedule and did not have the time to hike any further. When we had packed away our gear, Nui drove us the the Boy Scout Camp nearby to an absolutely incredible overlook...we did not want to leave!!! This is definitely a hike everyone should try, you'll learn so much about Oahu. Thank you Nui for a truly outstanding experience!!!

Dazzling Sunset Cruise

Posted on: 2015/06/13

Wow, what an amazing cruise!!! The weather was perfect, the sunset was dazzling, and my wife was stunning. With the sun setting in the west, Diamond Head looming in the east, and just the wind in our sails, we couldn't have asked for a more memorable experience. To top things off, there was a rain shower on Diamond Head that resulted in a rainbow, absolutely gorgeous!!! The crew was great and the food was delicious. We were given 2 drink tickets each, my recommendation is to purchase the Makani insulated tumbler, twice the drink for only $8. We opted for the Makani signature High Tide, quite tasty. This was our second adventure on the Makani, both were awesome!!! Highly recommended. A special Thank You to Mikiko at Veltra for keeping me on track!!!

Fabulous Turtle Canyon Snorkel

Posted on: 2015/06/13

This was the one adventure I was most excited about on our trip, it did not disappoint!!! I had never been snorkeling before and we were able to hit up Hanauma Bay beforehand. I'm glad we did, I felt a bit more at ease in the water, though, I had never stepped off the end of a boat into 20-30 ft of water in my life. I was a bit late getting in the water and by the time I caught up with my party, I had already missed one very large turtle. There were a number of brown fish in the water and there were other fish farther below. As members of our party began moving back to the boat, I decided to hang around a bit longer. Then, there he was, lumbering toward me out of the depths, a turtle!!! He changed course as he got closer and started to head into the canyon, I managed to get a couple of decent shots before he disappeared. I headed back to the boat, toward my waiting wife and a tasty lunch. This was truly a memorable experience. The crew was awesome, I would heartily recommend this adventure to everyone!!!

Amazing Shark Adventure

Posted on: 2015/06/13

I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about this adventure as the fateful morning arrived. We were in Oahu visiting our Son and his wife, she was particularly interested in the shark tour. My wife, on the other hand, would have none of it, fortunately, they have an 'Observer' option available. We boarded the Kai Ou after removing our shoes and headed out. The Captain explained that the sharks had become accustomed to the sound of the engines since there had been crabbing done in the past and they would not need to chum the water...we were going to be the bait. The water was absolutely beautiful, a bit on the choppy side, however, which made entering the cage a little more adventurous. It was really amazing being in the water with the sharks all around, there were between 8 and twelve, plus a few other fish, including some very large Trumpet Fish. I think my wife got the worst end of the deal as she was sea sick when we got back in the boat. The crew members were awesome, I would definitely recommend this adventure!!!
