We received a brief explanation on the beach, and although we were filled with anxiety, both my son and I quickly learned to ride the waves. Since there was one instructor for the two of us, we repeatedly rode the waves and returned to the shore, and the one-hour course was more than enough for us. In fact, anything longer would have been physically challenging. I was worried about bumping into others at the crowded Waikiki Beach, but the area further out was relatively less crowded, so it wasn't a problem. Four years ago, I participated in this lesson for the first time. It was so impressive that during this family trip, I joined a group lesson (4 English speakers, 2 Japanese) with my younger brother.

After a general explanation, a local instructor who speaks Japanese took care of the two of us on the beach. It was like a completely private lesson! Both my brother (his first time surfing) and I (my second time) were able to ride the waves right away. In fact, I managed to ride all the waves except for one! My brother didn't fall even once! The instructor praised us a lot and also pointed out areas for improvement.

Another surfing instructor told me, "The person teaching you is really amazing."

The photos cost $50 for one participant and $75 for two. Since there's a breakwater nearby, I should have had my family come to take pictures. I didn't have the luxury of taking selfies... haha.

I was exhausted after the lesson, so I'm glad I signed up for it on the last day. I was able to sleep soundly on the plane. If I go to Hawaii again, I definitely want to participate in a lesson here again!

It was my first time doing SUP, but they taught me very carefully how to hold the board and paddle. They praised me a lot and encouraged me. Once I was able to do a little, they taught me the next thing, so I was able to improve without feeling pressured. I took a private SUP lesson at Waikiki Beach. First, I received some basic instruction on the sand and then headed straight to the ocean. When the waves came and I fell, I was taught how to get back on the board and tried again. As I repeated this and got used to it, I was enveloped in the luxury of paddling while looking at Diamond Head. My instructor, Mike, pointed and exclaimed, "Turtle!" and right there was a honu (sea turtle) coming up to the surface for air, which was so moving. As a 62-year-old with no particular athletic experience, I thoroughly enjoyed a happy hour filled with a pleasant sense of fatigue. Thank you very much.

The team at Ohana Surf Project are knowledgeable, fun and super helpful. They teach you all the fundamentals, make you feel comfortable in the water and are with you every step of the way. Kevin and Romeo were incredibly patient and friendly, especially for someone uncoordinated like me. If you’re telling yourself that you couldn’t do this, you can, and they can show you. They took someone like me, who can barely tie my shoes without falling over, and put me up on a board surfing a wave. If you’re reading this review trying to find the best team to help you, look no further, just book it!

I had a great time! It was supposed to be a one-hour experience, but I used up enough energy to feel satisfied in about 40 minutes! The instructor was very lively, and I was able to learn quickly. They mentioned that it's best not to bring valuables, but you can store your belongings on the shelf at the reception.

I had previously been taken care of a few times, and this time I requested private lessons for my daughter, who just started elementary school (7 years old)! She was a bit scared at first, but Matt-sensei taught her in a fun way, and before we knew it, she was doing nice rides multiple times! Despite being scared and cold, it seems she had a great time.

I was also able to ride a few times nearby with a board I rented separately, which became a wonderful memory.

Since they incorporate some Japanese while standing, I think even those who can't communicate in English can enjoy it enough. I want to go to Hawaii again soon; thank you for your help next time as well!

Towards the end, paddling was a bit tough, but I had plenty of time to enjoy it. However, there weren't many instructions, so a private lesson might not have been necessary.
