Unfortunately, the explanation during the pre-monitoring was difficult to understand. However, we do some practice on the sandy beach, and the instructor provides support while we're on the water.

During my first attempt, I couldn't catch any waves and felt a bit down, but on the second try, the instructor taught me the tips again, and after that, I was able to enjoy it a lot. Most of the other participants were also first-timers, but everyone managed to ride the waves. Since we didn't wear life vests, it was surprisingly tough to swim back up every time we fell in. After a few tries, we were able to stand up, and the instructor ended up paddling off on his own. (laughs)

In the end, it was a 60-minute lesson, but I reached my physical limit after about 45 minutes and ended up sitting on the board, drifting with the waves.

I’m in my forties, but I was able to surf both enjoyably and rigorously.

I participated alone, and I was the only Japanese person there. During my time, there was no support in Japanese at all. That said, there isn’t much difficult English, so I don’t think a high level of English is necessary. However, if you can’t speak any English at all or feel anxious about it, I think it would be safer to go with another company.

There was one instructor for two of us. The other person was a large Western man, but he dropped out early and went home, so it was essentially a one-on-one experience.

The instructor was strict. It might not be suitable for those who prefer a slow, hands-on, and gentle teaching style, but I think it’s great for those who want to dive right in and go for it! I had a lot of fun trying multiple times.

However, you will get quite sunburned! Lying face down on the surfboard waiting for waves left my calves and the back of my thighs bright red, almost like a mild burn. I regretted not wearing my long pants rash guard that I had with me. You really do get burned. That’s the only thing to watch out for.

ただ、かなり日焼けします！
サーフボードにうつぶせになって波を待つのでふくらはぎと裏の太ももが真っ赤になり、軽いやけどのようになりました。長ズボンのラッシュガードを持っていたので履けばよかったと後悔しました。
本当に焼けます。これだけが注意です。

あと酔いやすい方は酔い止めを飲んだほうがいいと思います。
酔ったと言っている人がいました。

A couple in their 50s tried stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) for the first time. The instructor was kind and explained everything clearly, so we were able to move as we wished. My wife stood up right away. Although it seemed the wind was strong and the waves were high, we didn't mind since it was our first time and we didn't know any better. We had a great time. I signed up for a plan with my family for 5 people. Since it was my first time trying SUP, I booked a private lesson. In the first 5 to 10 minutes, we received explanations on how to hold the paddle, how to get on the board, and how to stand, and then we headed to the sea. After that, it felt like we were practicing on our own.

On the day, the wind was strong, making it difficult for beginners to stand and paddle. While sitting on the board, the instructor helped us ride the waves, and even though we struggled, we managed to have fun. However, I didn't feel like I received much of a lesson.

Also, I thought the photos were quite expensive. It was $30 per person, totaling $150 for 5 people, with each person getting about 10 photos (including similar ones).

My spouse and I tried surfing for the first time together. Initially, we just hoped to be able to stand up by the end of the lesson, but surprisingly, I managed to stand up on my first attempt. After repeating it several times, I was even able to strike a pose while standing by the end. Thanks to the cheerful and kind staff, we enjoyed this quick activity immensely.

It was also fun to communicate with participants from various countries while surfing (even if you can't speak English, it's fine to go with the flow; they will cheer you on if you catch a wave well). Additionally, there’s an option to have the day's activities filmed (with drone footage and photos), which I highly recommend for taking home memories.

You can store your belongings in lockers, so it's convenient during your travels. I participated right after climbing Diamond Head early in the morning, and it was no problem at all. The area around the surfing lesson has shallow waters with some rocks, so it might be good to have band-aids and disinfectant just in case.

サーフィンレッスン付近は浅瀬で所々岩があるので、万一に備えてバンドエイドや消毒液があるとなお良いかもしれません。
