We did some stretching before entering the sea, but I almost gave up paddling out. The female instructor helps the women, but the men have to do it on their own. Do your best! I was able to stand up multiple times while surfing, and it was really fun. If you get seasick, be careful because you might get sick while surfing too.

I went surfing near Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. The instructor was a local, and he quickly remembered my face and name, giving necessary instructions in broken Japanese. Everyone else was a beginner, so the instructor was pushing the board for us when we were catching waves. I found it a bit lacking for my level. I was nervous participating alone without speaking English, but it was great to be in the same group as Japanese people. Once you get out to the sea, you end up being alone anyway, so I don't think there's any need to worry about participating solo. Riding the waves by yourself is difficult, but the staff pushes you at just the right moment, making it easy to catch the waves. However, as a beginner, the board was really big, and paddling was very challenging.

About 7 to 8 years ago, I participated in surfing lessons here. It was my first time, but I managed to ride the waves a few times and had so much fun that I decided to join again. This time, I successfully rode all the waves! Yay! The staff were incredibly helpful, and I realized once again that this school is the best. They give you a little push at the moment you catch the wave, which makes you feel like you've really "caught it!" After that, all you need to do is stand up calmly, and you're good to go! Riding the waves was a success. Of course, paddling is tough, but my sister, who joined me, is also a woman in her late 40s. If you have the motivation, you can definitely do it, so I highly encourage everyone to give it a try. Surfing in Hawaii is the best memory for a trip!

By the way, I also tried surfing on the Gold Coast, but I couldn't ride a single wave. I wonder if the waves in Hawaii are better or if the staff are just that good, as it felt surprisingly easy to stand up.

I was a bit worried after seeing some comments saying the service was "neglected," thinking, "Was it really great 7 to 8 years ago but has changed?" However, that was not the case at all. The staff were truly amazing, encouraging me with wonderful smiles and providing strong support. Even when I was paddling hard but not making progress or couldn't go in the direction I wanted, they offered solid support.

In the end, I wanted to take a photo with the staff who took care of me the most, but I missed the chance, which was disappointing. They were busy cleaning up, and I felt bad interrupting them. It's impressive that they clean up after the lesson too; they are truly powerful staff! If I go to Hawaii again, I will definitely participate in the lessons. By then, I might be over 50... (laughs)

その時初めてだったのですが、何度か波乗りに成功し楽しかったので、また参加しました。
今回は波乗り全部成功しましたよ。ヤッター！スタッフの方に大変助けてもらって、やはりここのスクールでなくっちゃと改めて思いました。波乗りの瞬間、ひと押し入れて下さるんですよ～。これで「乗った！」と実感できるので、あとは落ち着いて立てばＯＫ！波乗り成功です。もちろんパドルはしんどいですが、私も一緒に参加した妹も４０歳後半女性です。やる気があれば、がんばれますので是非是非皆さんも体験して下さい。「ハワイでサーフィン」なんて旅の思い出として最高です！
（ちなみにゴールドコーストでもサーフィンに挑戦しましたが１度も乗れませんでした。ハワイは波が良いのか、スタッフが良いのか不思議と簡単に立てます）

時々、書き込みで「放ったらかし」とあったので、「７～８年前は凄く良かったけど変わってしまったのかな？」と心配していましたが、全然そんなことなく、素敵な笑顔で励ましてくれたり、力強く助けて下さったり、本当に最高のスタッフでした。一生懸命パドルしてるけど力不足で進まない、行きたい方向に行けないなんて時にはしっかりサポートしてくれます。

最後に一番面倒を見てくれたスタッフと写真を撮りたかったのですが、取り損ねて残念。後片付けを一生懸命されてるので声をかけるのが申し訳なくて。あのレッスンの後に後片付けもなんて、本当にパワフルなスタッフです！
またハワイに行ったら、絶対レッスンに参加します。その時、私５０歳超えかもですが。。。（笑）

I was anxious because I couldn't speak English, but the person explaining things was able to communicate in Japanese, so I was able to understand everything without any issues. After that, we headed straight to the beach! The lesson was right in front of us on the beach! Although the lesson was in English, it was fine with gestures! Due to a pickup trouble from another parasailing experience, we were an hour late and participated with my 14-year-old son. He was satisfied as he was able to stand up and ride the waves early on. Since we were an hour late, I think we only had about an hour left for the lesson, but after the other participants left, it turned into almost a private lesson, and we were able to enjoy an extended time. Thank you to the Japanese staff member, Aiko? (I hope I’m not mistaken ^_^) for handling the pickup trouble. I definitely recommend this tour. As for me, I had to give up after 30 minutes due to a recurrence of back pain! (It was because of the hotel’s too soft bed! Just an excuse ^_^;) It's a shame I don't have any photos.

別のパラセーリングの体験談に投稿させていただいたピックアップのトラブルで、1時間遅れで、14歳の長男と参加。長男は、早々に立って波に乗ることができて満足そうでした。1時間遅れだったので、本当はレッスン時間あと1時間ぐらいしかなかったと思いますが、他のレッスンの皆さんが帰ったあとも、ほぼプライベートレッスン状態で、時間延長で楽しませていただきました。日本人スタッフのアイコさん？(だったかな。間違えてたらすみません^_^)ピックアップのトラブルから対応ありがとうございました。ぜひ、オススメのツアーです。最後に、私は？というと、腰痛再発のため、30分でgive up!(ホテルの柔らかすぎるベッドのせいだぁ！言い訳でした^_^;)写真がないのが残念。

I tried surfing for the first time at the age of 62. Since I was good at skiing, I thought I could manage it and signed up casually. I imagined that balance would be important, so I did some mental training in preparation. However, the pickup was 30 minutes late, the instructions were all in English (which I couldn't understand), the semi-private lesson instructor was unfriendly (sorry for being an old guy!), and to top it off, the weather was bad, so my surfing experience left a lot to be desired. Overall, it was a lot of fun.
During my first trip to Hawaii, the experience of "surfing while looking at Diamond Head!" is something I think is quite rare.

With that in mind, here are the good and bad points:
1. Good points
- Using a long board makes it relatively easy to stand up. They push you from behind, so it's fine. No one in the same group had trouble standing.
- The location is absolutely fantastic! You can enjoy long rides while looking at Diamond Head. It feels really great.
- They take photos for you. $30 plus tax. The number of photos increases based on how many rides you take.

2. Bad points
- Women who couldn't get out to sea were left behind. The instructor only pulled them once at the beginning. As a result, those who couldn't go out on their own had fewer chances to ride the waves. I think if there were helpers, everyone could have enjoyed it more.
- The teaching was rough for the price. Even setting aside the fact that it's in English, in Japan, you would get more thorough instruction for half the price. I felt it was just a name for a lesson. They were just pushing from behind.

I wrote both good and bad points, but as I mentioned at the beginning, since it's Hawaii, which is an amazing place, I still recommend it.
It's a great memory for your trip!

3. Bonus
Be careful as it can be more tiring than you think. I think it's better to avoid hiking Diamond Head on the same day.

それを踏まえて以下の良い点、悪い点を書きます。
１．良い点
・長い板を使うので比較的簡単に立つことができる。後ろから押してくれるし大丈夫。同じグループで立てない人はいませんでした。
・ロケーションが最高に良い！ダイヤモンドヘッドを見ながらロングライドも可能です。とても気分が良いです。
・写真を撮ってくれる。＄３０プラス税金。乗った分だけ写真が増えます。

２．悪い点
・沖に出られない女性は放って置かれていました。先生が引っ張ってくれるのは最初の１回だけでした。結果、沖に自力で行けない人は波に乗る回数が少ないです。ヘルプ係とかいれば皆で楽しめたのにと思います。
・値段の割に教え方が雑。英語なのは置いといても、日本なら半額でもっと丁寧に教えてくれます。レッスンとは名ばかりだなと思いました。ただ後ろから押してるだけじゃん。

良い点、悪い点の両方を書きましたが、最初に書いた通りハワイという最高の場所なので、やっぱりお勧めです。
旅の思い出には最高ですよ！

３．おまけ
自分で思っている以上に疲れるので注意してください。同じ日にダイヤモンドヘッド登山とかはやめた方が良いと思います。

Surf HNL - Waikiki Surfing Lessons at Ala Moana Beach

We had heard really great things about Girls Who Surf so had picked them for our very first surf lesson. One downside is that apparently it is impossible to actually get a female instructor which makes you wonder about the name of the group. Our instructor was Warren and he did a good job of explaining what all to do and then took us into the water. I was horrible at it and opted to sit out and let my husband finish the course instead and he actually ended up doing rather well. They took photos for us and since we were such bad surfers and there were so few photos they gave us a discount on the photo package. Both Warren and the photographer were really nice. Only possible negative of the outing is that even though we had provided height/weight info ahead of time they did not bring a board big enough for my husband and had to go get another board which delayed the start of our lesson. Wasn't a big problem since the weather was nice and we basically just sat on the beach waiting.

We participated as a couple. Since we had taken a different surfing lesson the day before, we were a bit tired and left a little early with more than enough time. We also received T-shirts, which made for a nice memento.

The conversation in English was slow, and they paid attention to our reactions, so it wasn't a problem for us, even though we couldn't speak much. Even though I can't speak English, I received polite lessons! The instructor and the person who came to pick me up were both foreigners, but everyone was kind, and I had a great time surfing♪ I participated alone, but I highly recommend it!
