This is my second time participating. Three years ago, when I joined, we had to carry the surfboards from the shop to the beach ourselves, which was quite heavy and challenging. However, it has improved, and now we only need to transport them from the car parked by the beach to the water's edge! This is much easier.

I signed up for a group lesson, but since there were only two of us that day, it turned into a semi-private lesson, which was lucky. The timing was perfect, and I was able to stand up properly from the first try! The instructor spoke mostly English, but once we were out in the water, we only needed to use commands like "paddle" and "stand," so it wasn't a problem if you didn't speak English. Occasionally, they checked on us in a mix of Japanese, asking things like "Are you tired?" (laughs).

The group doing stand-up paddleboarding at the same time also let us surf towards the end. All the staff were friendly, and I had a great time participating again.

2度目の参加です。3年前に参加した時はサーフボードをショップからビーチまで自分たちで運ばなければならず結構重くて大変だったのですが、改善されてビーチサイドに止めた車から波打ち際まで運ぶだけで良くなっていました！これは楽チン。

グループレッスンを申し込みましたがこの日は二人だけだったので、セミプライベートになりラッキー。タイミング良く波に乗せてくれるので、1回目からちゃんと立つことができました！
担当してくれた方はほとんど英語ですが、沖に出てしまえば「漕いで」「立って」くらいしか使わないので英語が出来なくても問題ないです。時々日本語まじりで「ツカレタ？」などと気遣ってくれました(笑)
同じ時間にスタンドアップパドルをしていたグループも最後の方にはパドルを置いてサーフィンをさせてくれていましたよ。スタッフは皆フレンドリーで今回も楽しく参加できました。

We watched a Japanese video at the shop beforehand and then headed to the beach. It was quite tiring, but since it was a longboard, I managed to stand up and ride the waves properly. Everyone was able to ride the waves. Paddling is extremely exhausting. They lend you rash guards and boots. They also burn the images taken at the shop onto a CD and sell them. If you like them and want to buy, it's a good idea to bring some money.

At the beginning, I was told that there would be a bit of a stronger warning for safety in the ocean, and that was indeed the case. Even though I understood, it still made me feel a bit down. Surfing was fun.

I felt uncomfortable listening to some rather rude things said to another man, perhaps because they thought he didn't understand English. I wondered if men of the sea are just that foul-mouthed!?

At 41 years old, I tried surfing for the first time! I was really anxious about whether I could do it. The instructor was a foreigner, and right after picking me up, they asked if I could speak English, which made me even more nervous... All the explanations on the beach were in English... I honestly wondered if I would be okay.

But thinking "you learn by doing," I took the board and headed to the ocean. I was told that there were good waves suitable for beginners, and somehow, after about three tries, I managed to stand on the board. The instructor only spoke very simple Japanese, like "Paddle!" and "Are you okay?" But they made an effort to communicate using the Japanese I knew and gestures. Also, perhaps due to the tide, when I got separated from the other tour participants, they quickly came to my aid, and at one point, thinking I might be tired, they asked, "Break?" Even though we couldn't communicate in Japanese, I felt their consideration in their responses.

I didn't request a female instructor, so there were two instructors, one male and one female. (There were five participants in total, including me.) It might be tough for those who have a strong aversion to English. However, the instructors were friendly and fun, and I was able to enjoy surfing itself, so I was very satisfied with the experience.

インストラクターの方は本当にかんたんな日本語しか喋れなかったです。「漕いで！」とか「大丈夫？」とか。でも知ってる日本語やジェスチャーを使ってなんとか伝えようと努力してくださいました。また潮の流れのせいか私が他のツアー客の方とはぐれたときなどはすぐ駆けつけてくださったり、途中私が疲れてると思ったのか「休憩（する）？」と声をかけてくださったり、日本語が通じないながらも気遣いが感じられる対応でした。
私は女性を希望しなかったので、インストラクターは男女の２名でした。（ツアー客は私を含め５人でした）
英語に拒絶反応を示す方には厳しいかもしれません。
でもインストラクターの方は気さくで楽しい人たちでしたし、サーフィンそのものも楽しむことができ、私としてはとても満足のいく内容でした。

Did a semi-private lesson with two friends which was perfect. Jordan man, so good, he was an amazing instructor, kind and supportive and super friendly, and he got us all up on our boards and surfing on our own within the first hour. The day was bright, waves were slow but incoming, and the view of Waikiki from the water was unforgettable! Thanks to Hans Hedemann Surf School and HawaiiActivities.com. Ah man, such a great way to spend the morning.

Okay, I'm hooked! I cannot wait to get back to Oahu, and get on a board again! The day was great in every way. Austin is an amazing instructor, and a cool dude. I felt safe and confident with him, and was surfing in no time. Absolutely awesome!! I also had the privilege of meeting CJ, and Rachel (Turtle Bay shop). I had no plans to go surfing at all, but my daughter said, "Since we're in Hawaii, let's go surfing!" and that's how it happened. I experienced surfing for the first time in Hawaii! I had heard that the waves in Hawaii are beginner-friendly, so I thought if I was going to try it, it should be in Hawaii. I challenged myself with my brother and cousin! Besides us, there were also a Japanese parent-child pair and two groups from English-speaking countries, making a total of about 11 people.

I think experiencing this in Hawaii was the right choice for me. I gained confidence from doing well, and I feel like I might get hooked on surfing! If I go to Hawaii again, I’ll definitely do it again!

I was completely surprised that both my kids were able to surf on the first class. They enjoyed it so much they (the kids) insisted on another session. Their teachers were so good the kids were interested in learning more!!! a big shout out to Travis, Tim and Adam. These young men are wonderful teachers and it was an honor to meet them. Hardworking, talented and yet so humble and compassionate to their culture and environment. It was a wonderful experience! I also want to say the office staff were also very nice. It was my first experience, and I was satisfied to be able to stand on the surfboard. Since it was a shallow area, two friends who accompanied me got injured on their feet by rocks when they fell off the board. I think the water depth varies with the tides, but I believe it's important to be cautious about injuries during the experience.

I participated with my child, and thanks to the careful instruction, both of us were able to ride the waves in our dream destination, Hawaii. By the end, we were exhausted and a bit wobbly, but we had a blast until we were both completely sun-kissed. It was so much fun!!

One of the purposes of this trip is to go surfing!! That said, my husband, daughter, and I have zero experience... What will happen??? On top of that, we started with a mix of English lessons and a lot of anxiety~!

On the beach, important points were explained in a simple and easy-to-understand mix of English and Japanese, and we practiced on boards placed on the sand. Then we headed to the sea. I wondered if I could really ride the waves, but as we went out, when the waves came and I was about to catch one, the staff shouted, "Mom, stand up! Stand up!" When I tried standing, I glided~~~! Riding the waves felt amazing and was the best experience. During the two-hour lesson, I managed to ride almost without any failures. Of course, it was thanks to the staff who helped me catch the waves...

I recommend it to anyone who wants to try surfing. You'll get hooked!!

My daughter and I went surfing for the first time together. The beach right in front of Waikiki was just perfect for beginners. We both managed to stand up and pose for photos. It was a great experience for my 60th birthday... The local instructor told me, "I have students over 80 years old... you still have a long way to go."

The staff at Hans Hedeman surf school in Waikiki Went above and beyond to make sure my family had an enjoyable safe experience.
C.J. Was waiting for us in our hotel lobby with a big smile and welcoming personality.
Everyone from classroom to water were friendly and knowledgeable. I had the upmost confidence that my kids were in safe hands at all times.
The instructors did a great job and all three of my kids were able to get up and stay on their boards immediately.
Thanks to the Hans Hedeman school, my family had a great experience with memories they can keep for years ( and video to prove it !)
