Last year, I participated in a tour with VELTRA during my trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, and it was so great that I decided to book again this time. At the request of my friend who accompanied me, we chose horseback riding. Since I had already experienced horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch, we opted for the beach horseback riding this time. I was told that beach horseback riding is recommended during this season as it is less affected by the weather compared to valley riding. On the way there, it started to rain, which made me worry, but while we were outside, we didn't need to use umbrellas and were able to fully enjoy the horseback riding. We even got to see sea turtles. Unlike the horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch, there isn't a place to store your belongings, so it's recommended to carry a bag for valuables that you can take with you while riding. When using a tour again, I will definitely use VELTRA.

同行した友人のリクエストで乗馬を選択、クアロアランチ乗馬は経験済みだったので、こちらの海辺乗馬にしました。
この季節は渓谷乗馬より海辺乗馬が天候に左右されづらくお勧めとのこと。行きの車の中では雨が降ってきて心配しましたが、外に出ている間は傘をさすこともなく、乗馬も満喫できました。
ウミガメにも会うことができました。
クアロアランチの乗馬と違って、荷物を預けるところがないので、貴重品バッグは乗馬しながら持てるものがお勧めです。
ツアー利用の際には、またVELTRAさんを利用させて頂きます。

I got caught in a huge traffic jam, but it turned out to be a satisfying tour. I felt that it would have been nice if we had about 30 more minutes at the Dole Plantation and Haleiwa Town. Although I couldn't see any sea turtles at Alii Beach, I was glad to encounter one during the horseback riding experience. Perhaps because of the heavy traffic? The horseback riding was a private experience for my husband and me, which was really lucky. The horses were calm, so I felt safe riding them, and the time flew by. If I have the chance, I would like to join this tour again.

Kazu-san, a Japanese guide, joyfully showed us various attractions in Honolulu from the car window from the start of our trip. After a restroom break at the Dole Plantation, we enjoyed delicious, plump garlic shrimp at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck in Haleiwa, which Kazu-san had reserved for us. After that, we went shopping at Happy Haleiwa and the Snoopy Surf Shop in Haleiwa. Kazu-san kindly explained how to ride a horse during our travels, so there were no issues with the English instructions for horseback riding. Twelve of us rode in a line through the woods and along the beach. We were able to enjoy horseback riding while being blown by the pleasant sea breeze and taking in the beautiful coastline. I received explanations in Japanese from our guide, Kaz, about how to ride and the names and personalities of the horses, so even as a beginner, I was able to comfortably see many turtles swimming from horseback. On the way back, we avoided traffic by returning via the Kualoa area, allowing us to see the magnificent scenery and landmarks, and we also stopped by a macadamia nut farm. Kaz introduced us to downtown Waikiki, murals, and Ala Moana Beach from the car window, providing great value for the price. Kaz, our guide, was very accommodating to my elderly father, who has difficulty walking, and I found him to be much more polite and kind than other reviews suggested. For those who want to leisurely enjoy exploring Haleiwa, I recommend avoiding crowded days and opting for a tour focused solely on the town.

The explanations on-site were in English, but it wasn't too difficult, and the people were friendly, making for an enjoyable time. There were also others who brought their own horses and some who were swimming in the sea. Since it was by the seaside, there were no risky areas like mountain paths where you might fall off, and with fewer weeds along the road, we could ride smoothly while enjoying the sea breeze.

I had some experience with horseback riding in Japan (it usually lasts about 10 minutes depending on the price), but here I was able to ride for a longer time (about 40 minutes) and basically guided the horse myself, which was fun (^O^). The horse was really smart, so even my second grader was fine! Additionally, we were able to go sightseeing in the town of Haleiwa along the way (this part was mixed with horseback riding and included a meal, so it was quite rushed at about 1 hour (^o^;), but there was also a separate course just for sightseeing). We also had a great encounter with sea turtles, which you can see with high probability!!!

The guide talked a lot about Hawaii while we were in the car! The horseback riding was wonderful; I was a bit scared at first, but my horse was very gentle and walked slowly ahead. The staff chooses each horse based on compatibility with the rider. Some horses seemed to be struggling because they just wanted to eat grass! Riding while looking at the ocean is something you can't experience in Japan, so I definitely recommend trying it!

My mother and I signed up for a seaside horseback riding course. It was our first horseback riding experience, but the local staff kindly helped us with how to ride and stop. Riding while looking at the sea was truly a wonderful feeling.

Unfortunately, after arriving at the Dole Plantation, which was supposed to be just a quick stop, we were told by the tour guide that there was a mistake and they had forgotten to bring their license, which would take time to retrieve from the office. As a result, our stay was extended by over an hour. Since this is a common spot for other tours, I had been there before and ended up with nothing to do, feeling quite bored. Additionally, the tour guide's attitude was lacking sincerity, saying things like, "This is quite rare, you know," which honestly made me feel anxious about whether it was safe to follow this person.

The horseback riding itself was a lovely experience, so next time I participate, I would prefer to join a different tour company if there is an option.

母と娘の親子二名で海辺乗馬コースを申し込みました。初めての乗馬体験でしたが乗り方、止まり方等現地のスタッフが親切に対応して下さり、何といっても海を見ながらの乗馬はとても気持ちの良いものでした。

I think I could have enjoyed the tour more if the guide had been better. As others have mentioned, it was disappointing to have Kaz as our guide.

① Dole Plantation

I arrived 10 minutes before opening. This meant that the actual time I had to enjoy Dole Plantation was only 20 minutes, which was unsatisfactory. I quenched my thirst with very delicious pineapple juice and browsed for souvenirs. I wished I had a bit more time to explore the garden.

② Strolling through Haleiwa Town on the North Shore and having brunch with garlic shrimp

I ate at a Japanese-owned restaurant recommended by the guide. (It was emphasized multiple times that they opened early for this tour.) Perhaps because of that, while it was tasty, it was lighter than I expected. Personally, I would have liked a bit more punch. (I think enjoying local flavors is one of the joys of traveling.) The careful preparation of the shells and the shrimp's digestive tract left a good impression. Strolling through the colorful streets was fun, but again, excluding meal time, the stay was only about 30 minutes! There isn't much time to leisurely check out interesting shops, so it might be good to set a purpose in advance.

All the horses were cute and smart, and it was truly healing. They are well-trained, so I think beginners can experience it with confidence. I wanted to spend more time interacting with the horses!

⑤ We stopped in Haleiwa to pick up participants from other courses and for a restroom break, which concluded the tour.

While the places visited and experiences were excellent, I realized that the presence of the guide significantly changed my level of satisfaction.

This time, the guide, Kaz, was basically high-handed and had a scary tone. Listening to his interactions with other participants, he treated them in a condescending manner, which made those around him uncomfortable.

The information he provided about Hawaii's history and buildings during the journey was interesting, but his unique way of speaking combined with issues with the audio microphone made it hard to absorb.

Additionally, he was very strict about the meeting times. I understand it was to avoid traffic, but it felt more like he was rushing participants to avoid affecting his own working hours rather than for the sake of the participants or to keep the tour schedule.

ガイドさんが勧める日本人経営の店で食べる。
(このツアーのために早い時間から開けてもらっていると何度も強調されました)
そのためか、美味しいのだが思ったよりもあっさりしている。
個人的にはもう少しパンチが欲しかったかな。
(せっかくならローカルの味を楽しむのも旅の醍醐味だと思うため)
殻と背ワタが丁寧に処理されているのは好印象です。
カラフルな街並みを散策するのは楽しいが、ここでも食事時間を除くと滞在時間が30分あるかないか！？
気になるお店をゆっくり見ている暇はないので、事前に目的を定めておくといいかもしれません。


③一番楽しみにしていた海辺での乗馬！！！

どの馬も可愛くてかしこくて、本当に癒されました。
よく調教されているので初心者の方でも安心して体験できると思います。
もっと長い時間馬と触れ合っていたかった！

訪問先・体験内容は申し分ないのですが、ガイドさんの存在ですごく満足度が変わってくることを実感しました。

今回のガイド、カズさんは基本的に高圧的で口調がコワイです。
他の参加者さんとのやり取りを聞いていても、バカにしたようなあしらうような対応をされていて、周りが不快に思う。

道中教えてくださるハワイの歴史や建物案内等は興味深い内容なのですが、独特なしゃべり方と音声マイクの不具合が相まって、入ってこない。

そして、集合時間にはすごく厳しくせっつかれます。
渋滞を避けるためなのはわかりますが、「参加者のため」「ツアー予定時刻を守るため」というよりも、ガイドさんご自身の勤務時間に影響のないよう、参加者を急かしているような印象を持ちました。

The horseback riding at Turtle Bay by the sea was very nice. The horse I rode was a bit of a glutton and kept trying to eat grass during the ride, so I had to scold him multiple times to get back on course, which left my arms sore. It turned into a fun memory! It was truly the best tour! During the journey to and from the destination, our Japanese driver and guide shared various information about Hawaii. The stories were easy to understand and interesting, and his calm tone made it very easy to listen to. After arriving in Haleiwa Town, he kindly provided detailed information about recommended shops and restaurants while we slowly drove through the area, which I really appreciated. I have visited Hawaii many times, but I learned a lot of things I didn't know before, and I had a truly fulfilling day. I was very satisfied with my choice of this tour and returned home happy. First, at the Dole Plantation, you can enjoy freshly squeezed pineapple juice for just $2.50! It's a great deal, and you can savor the true flavor of pineapple without any additives, so I absolutely recommend it!

Next, the horseback riding takes you through a forest with ups and downs, making the one-hour ride completely engaging! The horses are all thoroughbreds and very stable, so it's reassuring, and it's kind of cute when they occasionally get bored and start munching on grass (*^-^*). I participated in a horseback riding experience tour on May 15th. We received instructions on how to handle the horses while in the car and then headed to the location. As a couple in our 60s, I felt a bit anxious about whether we would be okay, but once we got on the horses, those worries quickly disappeared. The horses were so well-trained. When the horse in front started walking, ours followed suit, and when it stopped, ours did too. Even if there was a bit of disruption, pulling the reins as instructed made them listen.

While riding, we enjoyed the beautiful ocean view and the sound of the waves, spending a blissful time. Our instructor, Koji, provided excellent sightseeing information, sharing the names of many flowers blooming in town and details about Hawaii. We were able to see vast pineapple fields and sea turtles as well. In Haleiwa, he guided us to the restrooms and famous shops, so we didn’t get lost. He also took us to a delicious garlic shrimp restaurant, and on the way back, we toured the east coast and stopped by a souvenir shop where we could sample coffee. It was truly a wonderful tour that left us very satisfied. Thank you very much.

またインストラクターのコウジさんの観光案内が素晴らしくて
町中に咲いてる沢山の花の名前、ハワイの状況とか教えて下さり
広大なパイナップル畑や海亀も見ることができました。
ハレイワの町ではトイレの場所、有名店を教えて下さり迷うことなく
過ごせました。ガーリックシュリンプの美味しいお店も案内して下さり
帰りは東海岸の方を周っていただき、コーヒーの試飲できる土産店にも
よって頂きました。本当に満足できる素晴らしいツアーでした。

We had a great tour with (creepy) Uncle Kevin today on the North Shore of Oahu! We've been touring all around the world and can seriously rank Uncle Kevin as one of the best tour guides. The Surf Bus has the right equipment, the right itinerary and an excellent attitude. The bus was on time at every stage and Kevin had good solid connections at every stage. He took the time to work with each group on tour to insure they had the right experience. Some of the stops had multiple options and he was able to call ahead to report those options to the vendor. Kevin recommended great food and knew how important this is to an all day tour. One unmistakable clue that Kevin really knows what he is doing is that he knew so many of the other folks involved with the tour on a personal level. He's a local. He knew all of the answers because he grew up here.

Great attention to detail makes for a great tour. Uncle Kevin obviously knows what he is doing and we look forward to going on another Oahu tour with him soon. Also, kudos to the bus company. They had the right equipment and marketing to make Kevin's expertise shine.

My first time in Haleiwa. I participated during the May holiday. The driver (who was Japanese) was very good.

It rained from the morning on the day of the trip. After we set off, the horseback riding was canceled. The driver informed us, "You can get a full refund for the cancellations." We were supposed to have three groups that day, but since the others canceled, it was just my family that set off. We only canceled the horseback riding and received a $100 refund per person.

We visited the murals in downtown Honolulu, a shop where we could sample coffee, and Dole Pineapple. After that, we entered Haleiwa while seeing the famous sign, and the driver kindly explained the shops from the car. Since it was still early for lunch, we went to a soap factory and then returned to Haleiwa for a garlic shrimp lunch at the recommended "CAMARON." The shrimp were already peeled, making them easy to eat. The driver was very kind, reserving seats for us and wiping off the benches from the rain. Even during our free time, I felt relaxed exploring since I had been informed about the famous spots from the car in advance. We also got to go to Matsumoto Shave Ice. On the way back, we were able to see three turtles up close on the beach.

In May, it can get quite chilly when it rains, so I think long sleeves are necessary. (We bought hoodies for the whole family at Dole.)

ホノルルのダウンタウンの壁画、コーヒーの試飲ができるショップ、ドールパイナップルへ。その後、有名な看板を見ながらハレイワに入り、車中からお店を丁寧に説明してもらいました。お昼にはまだ早い時間だったので、石けん工場へ行ってから、再度ハレイワに戻り、ガーリックシュリンプの昼食。お勧めの「CAMARON」へ。シュリンプの殻がむいてあるので食べやすいです。ドライバーさんが席を取ってくれたり、ベンチの雨を拭いてくれたりととても親切でした。自由行動でも、予め車中から名店を教えてもらっていたので、ゆっくり安心して散策できました。マツモトシェイブアイスにもゆけました。かえりには浜辺で3頭もカメを間近で見ることができました。
5月は雨が降るとかなり冷え込むので長袖が必要かと思います。（ドールで家族全員パーカーを買いました）。

I was shocked by the self-centered way of entertaining. This was the only tour during my stay in Hawaii that left me feeling unpleasant. Even though we were thanked at the end, the atmosphere in the vehicle was so quiet.

Everything about it was tedious, filled with sarcasm and unnecessary details, and the overall vibe of the tour (inside the vehicle) was far from pleasant.

This was my sixth time in Hawaii, but it was the first time I felt this way during any of the many optional activities I participated in. The only good thing was that I was able to go horseback riding in nice weather.
