Oahu
Excellent Day, would have liked some more rugged OFF Road parts on trip
It was an adventurous hike!
But we were able to go back and forth safely.
Along the way, the guide frequently explained about the plants and animals, which was very interesting.
The explanations were in English, and there were hardly any Japanese participants, but it was a good opportunity to study English and a valuable experience for communication in English.
The pickup was about 20 minutes late, which made me a bit anxious, but when I relaxed and waited, they came and found me.
It was nice that they kindly drove us back as well!
The class of 2016 had a wonderful time at Project Graduation, and we are so grateful that you safely got the students to their many exciting destinations around the island! Thank you very much!
Our first scheduled tour was cancelled last minute for unknown reasons, but luckily we were able to reschedule for later in our vacation.
Anyways, it was pretty fun. The jeep was closed-topped and air conditioned; fairly comfortable.
Tour guide was great; laid back and flexible.
We didn't really spend much time at the Dole plantation. We didn't go to a coffee plantation, but did stop at a macadamia shop. We didn't stop at Byodo temple. We skipped lunch, but did stop at a fruit stand. We stopped at several scenic points of interest, but as expected, a lot of the time was spent getting from place to place. We did do a small hike, which I guess I might have missed that in the description as I was unprepared..bring shoes!
Decent tour if you prefer a small group (we were paired with one other couple).
It was a beautiful hike. Rodolpho is personable and I learned a lot about the island from him.
Mahalo Mike.. Glad you enjoyed it. Enjoy the rest of your stay
Hiking in the rainforest was refreshing. Our guide, Terry, provided explanations in English (making it easy to understand even for those who are not good at English), so I was able to enjoy and learn at the same time.
We had an amazing time on this tour, and our tour guide Rodolph was very friendly and knowledgable. I totally recommend this tour while visiting Hawaii-a sight worth experiencing.
Great way to see the island. Driver well informed and super friendly. Well recommended.
In January, it was too cold for adults to swim in the ocean or pool, so I joined a hiking tour.
As we progressed, the guide explained about the plants and animals in the tropical rainforest, and we ended up seeing a waterfall. I had thought Hawaii was just about the beaches, but it was great to walk through such a tropical rainforest at a distance and difficulty level that even preschoolers could manage.
I highly recommend this tour for those who are tired of the beaches in Hawaii. It might be especially good for families with children, as it's also beneficial for their English education.
Lanai ensured we had a Wonderful day. Great itinerary, local food and we came away with a deeper understanding of the islands, its people and culture.
the driver showed up on time took us to pearl harbor & directed us to the sights after touring the Arizona & the museum we were a group of 13 some wanted to go to the battle ship & the submarine & some wanted to tour the city. the driver was very accommodating helpful & very helpful he made the day for us
Thank you for your compliments. We are glad to know your trip with us exceeded your expectations. We look forward to serving you again.
Royal Star Hawaii.
Our guide was Mathias (Mai Tai) lol...
He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable!!
Very personable and funny too. Hike was great, a few challenges but overall pretty easy.. We did not use boots and came back a bit muddy. But we are used to that back in PA. Highly recommend these fellas... Small group and shows with their personal touches!! Two thumbs up & mahalo for a great hike!!!
Our guide really knew his stuff, and was a fun guy! It was nice to take a trail that not everyone takes as it had more of an adventurous feeling. It was beautiful, and the perfect length of time.
Participated on October 2nd. A must-see for LOST fans. You can enjoy that bamboo grove. Walking through the bamboo thicket is interesting and addictive. The tour is all-inclusive. They provide all the necessary gear, water, and snacks. (The dried fruit and nuts are delicious. Eating them while exercising is super tasty because they're sweet and salty.) They even came to pick us up before the scheduled time. The guide was kind, cheerful, and explained everything well; he was very serious and the best. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the tropical rainforest. The view of the mountains from the Manoa residential area is also lovely. The difficulty level is adjusted to the participants' fitness, so I think there's no need to worry.
I wanted to experience the forest impression that stays with you later, so I decided to join this tour in Hawaii by myself. The other Japanese-language tours didn't fit my schedule, so I joined this English one alone. They provided everyone with rubber boots. When asked what size I wear, I said 8, which fit perfectly (I wear 24 cm). They also allowed exchanges. There were some muddy areas, but since it was a stream over hard volcanic rock, walking was easy. I crossed the stream a few times and it reminded me of my childhood, splashing my feet in the water. Since I was wearing rubber boots, it was no problem. At the end, we took commemorative photos at Mano Falls. Although the tour was in English, the guide was also good at Japanese. The Aussie group with me ended up with muddy bottoms from the mud. I wonder why? Maybe everyone else was fine. It was a lot of fun. I also got to experience the aroma of the coffee forest.
On the day of the tour, there were about 15 people in the group, and we were the only Japanese participants. The location was accessed from quite a distance before the usual entrance to the Manoa Falls hike. I was a bit worried because the tour reviews mentioned walking silently like in military training, but in reality, we progressed at a comfortable pace that matched the participants, and the guide provided very detailed explanations about Hawaii's nature and wildlife at various points, which was truly enjoyable☆☆
We walked near a stream to reach the waterfall, so the sound of the water was soothing, and I felt relaxed by the sounds of birds and the wind. This route is different from the Manoa Falls hike, and the waterfall at the end is also different. On the way back, we returned through a bamboo grove. Since there are muddy areas and we crossed a river, I recommend borrowing rubber boots at the beginning. It felt a bit adventurous and was a lot of fun! With rubber boots, you can proceed without worrying about water or mud.
The tour is not specifically for Japanese speakers, and the guide does not speak Japanese, so I think having some English skills would enhance the experience. However, since this hike goes through private land and is a route you can't access on the usual Manoa course, I highly recommend it for those who love Hawaii's nature. It is truly healing and a lot of fun!
I think you'll enjoy communicating with various participants as you climb together! I definitely want to participate again next time♪
Mahalo ABB, We are happy you enjoyed the tour. Please come again and try a different adventure to experience more of Hawaii..
My husband and I took our 11 and 10 year old daughters. We ALL loved this hike. It was longer than I expected, but definately worth it! I really recommend the boots to avoid ruining your shoes. The hike can get a little tough, but if I did it...anyone can! Have fun and wait for the big surprise.
I participated in the English tour with a bit of excitement. There were two Japanese women and about eight people from English-speaking countries, and despite my limited English, we were able to communicate and enjoy trekking together.
We climbed through a bamboo-like area near Manoa, but since Manoa has one of the highest rainfall levels in Oahu, the ground is often muddy, and we crossed a small stream along the way, so I definitely recommend borrowing rubber boots. This tour is almost 100% in English, so it's great for those who really love trekking and find Diamond Head too easy! However, for those who are anxious about their English skills, it might take a bit of courage to join.
Also, I noticed that arriving about 30 minutes late is something typical for English tours. If you don't have that kind of flexibility, you might find it frustrating at first.
Mattias was a great tour guide and knew a lot about the hike. I took my 8 year old son along and he had a great time as well. It was beautiful.
Most interesting of the all the tours we took. The rain forest is truly amazing. Fantastic tour!
We did the hike-only portion up to a waterwall. Beautiful rainforest hike on the way up, and impressively thick bamboo forest on the way back down. We appreciated that bug spray, water, and snacks were provided. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and patient with the occasional extra time it took our 6-year old daughter to navigate some slippery and steep areas. Bike Hawaii was understanding and flexible with us when we accidentally started on the wrong activity, and easily re-scheduled us to another day so we could enjoy the activity we meant to attend. I'm sure we will use their business again when we return to Oahu.
Sidenote: our transportation back to the hotel was a 6-seater vehicle, with 7 intended passengers. Much Thanks to the cab driver who insisted that it was not safe for me to simply "hold my daughter on my lap" for the return ride! I totally agree.
Last year, I enjoyed hiking with a Japanese guide, and I signed up for a different plan with a Japanese guide this year, but unfortunately, it was fully booked. Reluctantly, I used this plan, but the guide did not show up at the pickup time and arrived quite late. There was no excuse for the tardiness upon arrival. The plan involved walking through a private church property in rubber boots. As I walked, I thought it felt like the Japanese military's Imphal operation. After walking for several minutes, we arrived at a waterfall, and shortly after that, we turned back. There was little explanation provided. I feel that last year's plan with the Japanese guide was much more enjoyable. I can't really recommend this one.
It was such a beautiful experience to walk through a lush tropical rain forest. The hike was not strenuous, which allowed me to take in all of the beautiful sights and sounds of the rain forest. The waterfall was definitely the highlight of the hike. This is where we took a break and had plenty of photo opportunities. The pictures we took were so beautiful they could probably be used for a post card picture.
I recommend this for those who have visited Manoa Falls as mentioned in the guidebook and felt they could walk more or want a bit more adventure!
There were seven participants, including myself. Three were solo travelers, one couple, and one married couple, all from the mainland United States. The guide primarily spoke English but also shared a little bit of Japanese. I think even those who don't understand English at all will be fine. Rather, we were walking quite a bit, so there wasn't much opportunity for conversation during the hike.
It felt more like trekking off the beaten path than I expected, so I think it's better to wear trekking shoes or change into borrowed rubber boots. I went in short sleeves and shorts, but even with insect repellent, I still got bitten (the swelling went down quickly♪), so I recommend long pants for those who are prone to mosquito bites. As for belongings, everything was fine as listed.
Although it was an English-only tour, I participated alone. I was the only Japanese person, and there were about ten travelers from the mainland United States.
As we made our way to the waterfall, we received very detailed explanations about the trees and other aspects of the rainforest. Along the way, we had to jump over rivers and navigate difficult terrain, which required everyone to help each other out and cooperate. It might be tough if you can't communicate in English to some extent.
The water at the destination waterfall was disappointingly low, which was the only letdown. However, the staff was very kind, and a sense of camaraderie developed among the participants. Overall, I thought it was an interesting tour.
I participated alone on August 25th. I was a bit anxious about the English guide, but even if you can't speak English, people who love nature can quickly bond. There were seven participants, and aside from me, everyone was from abroad, but we were considerate of each other and realized that communication is not just about words! I was worried because there were no previous reviews, but the hotel pick-up was on time, and even though I was waiting at a different location, they came to find me. It is required to wear long pants, but as long as you have pants that go down to just below the knee and socks, you'll be fine. You'll also wear rubber boots, so make sure to declare your shoe size in advance; even if it doesn't fit, there are extra shoes available, so you can wear something that fits you. They also prepare insect repellent spray, and the itinerary allows you to enjoy various trees and scenery, which is fantastic. Above all, the fact that "there are no snakes" is wonderful! The path to the waterfall makes you sweat just enough to feel good. The nuts and dried fruits provided are delicious. The waterfall isn't very big, but it's a secret view that only those who participate in this tour can see. What impressed me even more was the way back. As we descended carefully through the green bamboo, the sounds of different plants and animals compared to when we climbed up soothed my heart. It was truly eco-trekking. Since it's a tropical rainforest, it does rain, but the trees provide enough cover that the raincoat I brought was completely unnecessary. Other participants got their bottoms dirty, but in the end, we could wash off in a stream, so it's all good. The difficulty level is about climbing a mountain of around 200 meters. They adjust to our pace, so everyone should definitely participate!
