Kauai
The food was very good, and the show was good as well. My only real complaint is the time gap between events happening. We arrived and were treated to a tram tour of the botanical gardens, which is fabulous. After that we had approximately 40 minutes before the Imu ceremony where they pull the pig out of the oven. Although we further explored the gardens, there's only so many times you can admire a flower or tree. My wife and I decided to find seats (open seating for parties less than 5), and we choose poorly. The bar doesn't open until after the Imu ceremony, so we weren't able to enjoy a drink (other than water) while we waited. After the Imu ceremony, the band started playing music and the bar opened. Once the buffet started, we realized our poor choice of seats, as we were among the last tables to be signaled for the buffet. At least we had drinks by that time, but the waiting wears on you. The food was good, but once we were finished, there was only the music to listen to. Normally this is an opportunity to talk to the other guests, but the seating arrangement isn't conducive to starting a conversation with strangers.
After another 30 minutes or dead time or so, we moved from the dining area to the theater. The show was entertaining, with traditional dances and music, but it just didn't flow as a story for me. I felt like it was more of a documentary of Hawaiian dance. My wife and I were ready to go when it was over (even before).
I enjoyed the whole experience immensely! The food was great and the entertainment was fantastic! What I loved the most was that there was constantly something going on, I was never bored waiting for the next tick of the clock to happen, unlike a different luau we went to later during our trip.
Very nice and friendly staff. Great food and excellent show.
My idea about a Luau was...some food and a little bit of Tahitian dancing on a hotel property...This is what we saw year after year walking on Kaanapali beach - Maui .
Smith Family Garden Luau IT IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT- worth attending. They are very well organized and offer you a unique experience!
1. You get greeted by a local girl and boy who are offering a lei and at this point you get a group picture taken- nice touch- no pressure to buy it,
2.They offer you a tour of the garden and after that you have time to wander by yourself- 50 min- until they do the pork ceremony.
3. You are invited to your table- parties 6 or more have assigned seats- very thoughtful. They have a neat system to invite you to get the food without overcrowding the area. BTW- plenty of good food and drinks.
4. During the meal they entertain you : a little bit of dancing and singing and they invite people from the crowd to teach them how to dance. It was really neat !!
4. After the meal you are invited to an outdoor theater for an 1 hour show. It was A REAL show...lights, music...put together very professional! Enough seats for everyone, you can seethe scene from every seat . At the entrance you can pick up your photos.
I think it is the only Luau worth attending :)
Wailua River Cruise (Half Day / English Guide)
Since I had previously participated in a tour with a Japanese guide, I joined this affordable tour without a guide this time.
The cheerful English guide entertained everyone, and it was fun to sing and dance together!
After getting off the boat, the well-maintained walkway was reassuring, as my mother, who has some difficulty walking, was able to manage the distance.
The Wailua River Cruise is wonderful no matter how many times you come!
Best luau ever! Food was amazing! Drinks were strong! ❤️
The river is lovely and the grotto too - this activity is very affordable compared to many tourist attractions
Outstanding show. Staff was great. Good food variety
On our last night on the island, my friend and I went to the Smith's Luau, and it was one of our most memorable times on Kauai. It was not only informative, but entertaining as well. You can tell that this family owned and operative business is run with love and a true appreciation for Hawaiian culture.
The tram ride took us along the huge gardens, and was a great way to get a quick view of the area. I loved that they have a herd of goats! The babies were just so cute! It was also close to where they were doing the imu or underground oven ceremony. Picture time!
The food was plentiful and really tasty. I loved that they had entertainment (music and dancing) while we ate, and the only thing is that I would personally skip the fruit punch. It was just too sweet! But the food, man! I had two full plates and would have had more, but would have ended up rolling out of there.
Our night concluded with some fantastic performances, and although they weren't the most polished, they were filled with sincerity and a love of hula that can't be matched. You can tell that they truly enjoy being on that stage and it is just so moving. Really happy we went :)
It was a good way to check out some of the sites of movie scenes from Kauai. Relaxing and no stress, if that’s what you seek. Jonna was great, providing more of a local perspective and was also one of the founders of this movie tour. However note that due to recent flooding, tour won’t bring you to Hanalei Pier.
The MC and music brought the experience to another level. Enjoyed it very much!
The family owned luau was extremely well run from the warm greetings, the shell lei and pictures to a tour of the gardens, the ceremony of retrieving the pig and delicious dinner and drinks. We especially enjoyed the variety of the show. The dancers were suberb! We'd recommend this luau experience to everyone
Never ending tropical drinks, shopping pre-show, great dinner buffet and really nice show! What more can you ask for? The area is covered as well in case it rains. This was a fun evening! The show production is top notch. They fit a lot of people into the building but to their credit, it doesn’t feel like it. Don’t let them trick you into thinking the poi is good though! ;)
My daughter and her three friends 'raved' about the great dinner and show. The show was simply breathtaking and food outstanding. Especially enjoyed the after show meet with the cast! Would highly recommend this luau and show to all Island visitors
It was something to do on a rainy day to fill a couple hours.
I was able to easily make a reservation through Veltra and had a great time. It was an enjoyable optional tour for my trip. I would like to use it again.
ベルトラで簡単に予約し、楽しむことができました。
旅行の楽しみ オプションツアーでした。
又利用したいと思います。
Best luau I’ve been to! Very spacious and well organized! The food is delicious and everyone is very friendly! This was my second time and I’d do it again! Well worth the money!
The cruise was amazing. Very relaxing and welcoming. The crew, including all singers/dancers/captains, was phenomenal!
They sang Hawaiian songs while we were on the sightseeing boat. There was also hula dancing, and it was so much fun. The English tour was fine too. It was great to have Hawaiian songs and hula dancing in front of the fern cave! I was surprised to see a chicken on the way to the cave after landing.
The smith family runs a professional operation. Everything was well-timed. Tram through the gardens to the imu presentation was nice. Ability to walk through the gardens was nice as much as you want is nice. Imu (unearthing the cooked pig) was interesting. Food at dinner was good, though open air dining room was not was I would have expected. Show was in an amphitheater nearby and again not what I expected, but visibility was good for all. The show was very well done, the right length and I appreciated the educational sharing of different types of dance to immigrants from different countries. Very enjoyable.
We had Aunty Alicia as our guide and she was very knowledgeable and took us to extra spots! I was glad we got to see most of the north shore.
The only downside was the people flew in for the day and we were delayed waiting for them which cut our time short at some of our viewing sites.
Food is great, ground are amazing. This is more like a family than a production
The show is definitely the best part of it. Very entertaining, and great production. The dinner buffet is good -- more than enough food to stuff yourself, and decent selections of Hawaiian food. We didn't opt for the train ride before the dinner, and there's really not too many booths and demonstrations to walk around and see. A lot of people end up just sitting at their table early to wait for dinner to start, especially those who don't drink alcohol that much. My only complaint of the night was it was quite chilly and even cold after sitting there for a while watching the show. It's essentially "outdoors" (with cover) and it's December, so night time it's in the 60s, and I guess I didn't dress appropriately for 60s degrees F weather.
5 years ago I came to Kauai and kayaked up the Wailua river. This time I'm taking family here who are not all physically fit and it would be a pity if there was no other way to see the Wailua river and Fern Grotto! Fortunately there's Smith's River Cruise! It offers a relaxing way to see the river, take a boat ride, and walk around the Fern Grotto. Well worth the ticket price! You also get to see a fun performance by the crew there and on the boat ride back, and get to join in the dancing.
Best tour ever! All staff were amazing. Can't wait to go again! Will be recommending this company.
Loved attending this with my family and friends. Have already recommended it to other people!
It is so worth paying to have them pick you up and our driver was both informative and funny. I would pass on the train ride. Too many kids were in our car and we couldn't hear the tour. Or get closer to the conductor. The food was plentiful and many buffets were available. The drinks for Muai Tais or Blue Hawaiians were all inclusive and if you like to drink, there was no maximum. The show was the spotlight of this Luau. The pictures are just a brief image or example of the spectacular event that draws you into the history of Hawaii.
What a great night
A family run show and grounds
Well done
Really enjoyed the show and wowzers the meal
Outstanding
Gonna have to bump up my exercise program
This month
Mahalo
To many more
The show was beautiful, the food was incredible, and my only suggestion would be to add more activity or interaciton with the culture. The show at the Polynesian Cultural Center provides a tour through replicas of old villages and different polynesian islands. Very cool.
I had a great time with the plantation owners package. Dinner at Gaylords was fantastic and the scenery was amazing. The show was breathtaking and entertaining
