I had heard that the oxygen is thin, but I was surprised at how difficult it was to breathe at such a high altitude! I really felt the impact of being told repeatedly to "take deep breaths." Fortunately, we had good weather and it wasn't too cold. I was a bit worried because I had been lax with my cold weather gear, but the warm clothing I was lent was very light and kept me from feeling cold at all.

The sunset is beautiful no matter where you see it, but here at 4,200 meters! Watching the bright red sun setting above the sea of clouds was truly magnificent. Then, we descended to 3,400 meters for stargazing. I checked the moon phase, and it was the fifth day after the new moon, so we could see the Milky Way clearly in the star-filled sky. The explanations about the constellations were very thorough and easy to understand. I took a lot of photos. Thank you very much!

酸素が薄いとは言われてましたが　こんなにも高所が息苦しくなるものか！と驚きでした。何度も繰り返し　”深呼吸して下さいね”と言われた事が身に染みました。お天気に恵まれた事とあまり寒くならなかったのが幸いでした。防寒対策が少しおろそかだったので心配してたのですがお貸し頂いた防寒着がとても軽くて暖かくて寒さを感じる事はありませんでした。夕日は何処でみても綺麗だなぁと思うのですが　ここは4200メートル！そう雲海を下にして見る真っ赤に燃える太陽は本当に素晴らしかったです。そして高度3400メートルまで下りての星空観察。月齢を調べ、参加した日が新月から5日目？の三日月の夜だったので　満天の星空で天の川もくっきりと観られました。星座の説明なども　とても丁寧で解りやすかったです。写真もいっぱい撮って頂きました。有難うございました。

First of all, it started with a very friendly guide (Macchan) welcoming us with a warm "aloha." He was considerate of my elderly mother and helped her into the front seat, which was easier for her to get in and out of.

That day, the bus was almost full. The scenery gradually changed from lava to more greenery. As we ascended, we entered the clouds and experienced some light rain, which made the changing views even more exciting.

To acclimatize to the altitude, we had about an hour of lunch time at the Onizuka Center before heading to the summit of Mauna Kea. The sea of clouds, sunset, and starry sky were different from what I had seen online or in guidebooks.

The 360-degree view was breathtaking. We observed the stars under some of the world's renowned observatories, in temperatures that felt unlike Hawaii. I was a bit worried about altitude sickness, but it turned out to be no problem at all.

Macchan was knowledgeable about cameras and took some wonderful photos, so I can enjoy them even after returning home. It became a lovely memory.

先ずは、とっても気さくなガイドさん（まっちゃんさん）の〜aloha〜お迎えからはじまりました。高齢の母を気遣って下さり、乗り降りのしやすい助手席に乗せていただきました。
この日はほぼ満員。
溶岩から段々と緑が増えていきます。どんどん標高があがり、途中　雲の中に突入したり、パラパラと雨が降ったりで、目まぐるしく景色が変わると共に期待もどんどん膨らんでいきます。
体を高地に慣らすためにオニヅカセンターで1時間ほどお弁当タイムを経て、マウナケア山頂へ。
ネットや、ガイドブックなどで見たものとは違う、雲海や夕陽、星空でした。
360度素晴らしい景色。世界の名だたる天文台の下での星空観測。ハワイとは思えない気温。
少しだけ心配していた高山病もまったく問題ありませんでした。
まっちゃんさんがカメラに詳しくて、とてもステキな写真を撮ってくださったので、帰国後も写真見て楽しめます。
素敵な想い出になりました。

I had been interested in the sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea, which I had seen on TV for a long time! Additionally, we got to do some stargazing, making it the best day ever! We participated as a couple on our honeymoon.

Initially, I was planning to sign up for a tour with a Japanese guide, but it was already fully booked, so I signed up for this tour instead. I was a bit worried since I don't speak much English, but despite the tour being almost 100% in English, thanks to the tour guide's consideration and a Japanese family who happened to join us, I was able to enjoy it very much!

I also observed other tours with Japanese guides and felt that the content and quality of this tour, along with the consideration for customers and the very free-flowing nature of the proceedings, made me truly glad that I participated in this tour.

The hot chocolate and brownies during stargazing were unforgettable. It was truly the best tour! Thank you very much!

英語がほぼ出来ないため、多少心配していましたが、ツアーの最中はほぼ100%英語だったにもかかわらず、ツアーガイドさんのお気遣いと、偶然一緒に参加した日本人の家族の方のおかげで、とても楽しむ事ができました！
他の日本語ガイドのツアーの方々もいらっしゃって様子を拝見致しましたが、ツアーの内容や質、お客様への配慮やとても自由な感じでの進行など、このツアーに参加出来てよかったと改めて感じています。
天体観測中のホットチョコレートとブラウニー、あのおいしさはわすれられません。
本当に最高のツアーでした！ありがとうございました！

What an amazing experience!!

This trip was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. We had a great time and enjoyed the experience immensely. I was a little disappointed when they called me that morning and told us the road to the summit was closed and we might not be able to go to the top. Since we were on a limited time schedule we decided to go anyway. Nate was our guide and picked us up in Kona. On the ride to Mauna Kea, he explained about the different kinds of lava flows and some of the myths about Pele. When we got to the sheep station, Nate set up our meal for us and explained about life as a sheep rancher on the island. He promised that if we didn't get to go to the summit, he would make sure we at least saw the sunset from another spot. Supper was very good and it was fun getting to know the other tourists with us. After we ate, we got the good news that the road had opened and we were able to go to the top. What a gorgeous sight!! We saw the sun set on one side and turned around and saw the full moon coming up on the other. After watching the sunset, we went back down to visitor center and did some stargazing. Nate was very knowledgeable about the constellations. We were able to see the rings around Saturn and other constellations that night. The hot chocolate and warm brownies tasted good after being up on the summit where it was pretty chilly! I would definitely recommend this adventure for anyone visiting the Big Island, If we are fortunate enough to return, we will be doing this again!! Thank you Nate for a great evening.

The tour was great. They picked us up from the hotel on time, and then we headed to the summit of Mauna Kea. The break time at the Onizuka Center was just right, and we were able to spend more time at the summit than I expected, allowing us to see a beautiful sunset. My two daughters, who were with us, seemed to have no issues with altitude sickness, but my wife and I experienced slight dizziness and drowsiness after walking a bit. However, it wasn't a major problem at all.

The stargazing along the way wasn't as impressive since the moon was out, so I wouldn't say it was "the first time I've ever seen this!!", but the guide from another group (Mac-chan) provided excellent explanations, and we were able to see various constellations. Additionally, they took photos of us with the starry sky in the background using my camera, which made for a wonderful keepsake.

So far, everything was good. After the tour, I requested the download link for the photos taken by the guide, as indicated on the business card I received, but I haven't received any response at all. I've sent multiple messages, even changing the sending address, but still no reply. As a result, I can't download the photos we took, nor can I even view them.

This is quite disappointing.

ツアーは良かったです。定刻どおりホテルに迎えに来ていただいて、その後、マウナケア山頂に向かいました。オニズカセンターでの休憩時間も丁度よく、また、山頂での時間も思ったよりたくさん確保できて、きれいな夕陽を見ることができました。気になっていた高山病は、同行した娘二人は何の問題もなかったようですが、私や妻は少し歩いたりすると軽くめまいがしたり眠気が出たりしました。が、全然大きな問題ではなかったです。途中の星空観察は、月が出ていたので正直なところ「生まれて初めて見た！！」と言うほどではなかったですが、他グループのガイド（マッちゃん）の解説が素晴らしく、いろいろな星座を見ることができました。また、自分が持参したカメラで星空バックで撮影もしてくれて、大変良い記念になりました。
で、ですよ。ここまでは良いのです。
ツアーが終わった後、名刺をもらって書いてあるとおりガイドさんにとってもらった写真のダウンロード用PSWの連絡をお願いしたのですが、全然レスがありません。発信元のアドレスを変えたりして何度何度も送ったのですが、それでもレス無しなのです。ですので、とってもらった写真はダウンロードできないどころか、見ることもできません。
これはちょっと頂けないなあ。

They provided great support for that, and we were able to see very beautiful scenery and a starry sky, which made us very satisfied!

When I consulted with the guide, Mr. Matsuzaki, he immediately discussed it with the security team, obtained permission to return to the summit, and went back after the stargazing to help me look for it. During that time, he turned off the car lights to be considerate of the observatories at the summit and drove in the faint light of the crescent moon. When he found my camera, I was moved to tears. The sunset from the summit was as beautiful as I had hoped. Thanks to the guide's advice, I was able to sit in a prime spot and enjoy the sunset comfortably and leisurely. After that, we moved to a different location for stargazing, which turned out to be another wonderful experience. Through the reflecting telescope, I was able to see Saturn. I was thrilled to see satellites and shooting stars with my own eyes, and I never expected to see the Milky Way so clearly. I also got to see the flames from the Kilauea crater. There were explanations about the constellations, which made it even more enjoyable. Fortunately, I was able to take many interesting photos, making for great memories. I believe this was an experience unique to participating in the tour.

その後、場所を移動しての星空観測。これが、また素晴らしい体験となりました。
反射望遠鏡では土星を見せてもらいました。衛星や流れ星は肉眼で見ることが出来るし、天の川もあんなによく見えるものだとは思っていなかったので、うれしかったです。キラウエアの火口の炎も見られました。星座のことなども解説があったので、より楽しめたと思います。
ありがたいことに面白い写真もたくさん撮っていただき良い記念になりました。ツアーに参加したからこその体験が出来たと思います。

I love the Big Island and have visited many times, but this was my first time participating in this tour, which I had been curious about. The bus slowly ascended towards the summit of Mauna Kea, and I could feel the thinning oxygen. We were picked up in front of the condominium at 3 PM and headed to the summit after picking up four groups. The weather down below was sunny and cloudy, and as we climbed, the clouds thickened, making us uncertain if it was really clear. However, near the summit, it was perfectly clear, above the clouds.

I had heard that the sunrise was wonderful, but due to timing, we opted for the sunset, which was also quite magical and enjoyable. The altitude at the summit of Mauna Kea is a bit breathless, so it might be tough for those around middle school age.

After the sun set, we descended a bit for stargazing. Unfortunately, there were quite a few clouds, and the moon was too bright, which was a bit disappointing. However, there was a thorough explanation of the constellations, which was satisfying. We were able to return to the hotel by a little after 10 PM.

Overall, it was a satisfying activity. The time spent was long, from the afternoon to the evening, allowing us to enjoy the day. If you manage the time difference well, you might also be able to enjoy the sunrise.

朝日が素晴らしいと聞いておりましたが、時間の問題で夕陽にしましたが、こちらもなかなか幻想的で良かったです。マウナケアの山頂は少々息が切れる高度ですので、中学生位まではきついかも。
日が沈んで少し下山して、星空観測。こちらは雲が少々多いのと、月が明る過ぎたので、ちょっと残念。でも丁寧な星座の説明もあり、満足。夜10時過ぎにはホテルに戻れました。
全体として満足のいくアクティビティでした。時間も午後～夜までと長く、一日楽しめました。時差を上手に使うと朝日も楽しめるかも知れないです。

I visited the Big Island of Hawaii on a mother-daughter trip because I wanted to show my 13-year-old daughter the great outdoors and the starry sky. Due to our fixed schedule, we were unable to see the starry sky as we had hoped, especially since it was the day after the full moon and July has long days. Our guide, Jin, was highly professional and made every effort to ensure we had the best tour possible under the limited circumstances. Overall, it was a very satisfying tour, and I would like to try to see the starry sky again.

I wasn't very confident with vehicles, so I was a bit worried, but I thought it might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb up to 4200 meters, so I decided to go for it. With a relaxed schedule that included photo opportunities, dinner, and bathroom breaks, we were able to reach the summit.

It felt quite strange to drive up to a summit of about 4200 meters. Even though I was wearing warm clothing, it was still cold (it seems it had been quite warm recently), and I felt the air was thin, so I was consciously breathing. From the summit, we were treated to a beautiful sunset, and I was able to get some wonderful photos with the sunset in the background. A little below the summit, we did some stargazing. Since it was three days before the full moon, the moon was too bright, and unfortunately, we couldn't see the Milky Way, but I was able to take some fantastic photos here as well, which made for great memories.

I wanted to see a beautiful starry sky, so I decided to join this tour. However, I was a bit anxious about whether I could climb up to 4,000 meters. We learned so much about the island volcanos on this tour. The views are amazing and star gazing is outstanding. Believe the advice to be prepared for the cold. It was 37 at the top (in July)! We were fortunate to see the glow of the lava from the volcano. Apparently an unusual occurance.
