Big Island
We came for an adventure and left with an experience we’ll remember forever. Not only was the UTV experience so fun but we learned so many ancient Hawaiian stories, history, and culture from our tour guides who were all Hawaiian natives. The type of stuff you can’t google or find in books, but real life knowledge passed down from their ancestors that we were lucky enough to hear about. The UTVing was awesome and we saw the 7 valleys, beautiful views, and stopped at a small private waterfall, and collected some wild guava along the way which was delicious, but if you want a real Hawaiian experience it’s the people who work for the UTV tour that make the 2+ hours something you’ll remember forever. Truly amazing
Was a great afternoon driving through the trails to the waterfall! We hit every MUD hole there was along the way! Then stopped for a snack, took some pics of how Muddy we were then walked down to the waterfall and jumped in the refreshing water! The guides we Absolutely amazing, told us all about the history of the land and waterfall. Shared with us other places to stop and see on our trek back across the island, VERY FRIENDLY and all did and absolute amazing job making our day AMAZING! We definitely recommend this excursion for anyone, they won't disappoint!!
Aloha Laura and Toni,
Thank you for your great review and for choosing Umauma. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the mud.
Mahalo!
This tour was fun. Stupid fun. Like crazy, muddy, stupid fun! 10 out of 10 would recommend. We had a beautiful day with juuust enough rain to keep the mud nice and soft and sticky with a few big, slick puddles to splash through. Can't recommend this experience enough!
Bring clothing you don't mind getting dirty. Really, really dirty. And wet. You get the opportunity to hike down to a gorgeous, waterfall-fed pool for some swimming.
The guides were friendly and fun and we had a blast. The property is stunning and there are showers available for after the ride; bring a change of dry, clean clothes!
Wow! Not only did we get to see the scenery as advertised, but it was also way more beautiful in real life than in the pictures. And not having been on an ATV before, it was very fun and exciting. We were taken on a pretty high-speed adventure right up the slopes of Mauna Kea. Seems like we gained about 1500 feet though it was hard to tell for sure. In addition to the views, we say a few tame cows and a heard of wild pigs! Our shuttle driver and tour guides, Isaiah, Jericho, Sam and Henry were really helpful, and Jericho was especially entertaining! They were all full of knowledge of the ancient Hawaiians that first landed on the Big Island, and had great stories about their heritage, and also Jericho had a great since of humor. He had us laughing the whole time! We would definitely take a trip with them again some time!
Alisha and Chloe were great. This was a lot of fun despite the rain. Be prepared to get muddy though.
The atv was basically a track on a large piece of property- nice view but guess we had expected a ride to woods to a waterfall. The waterfall view is best from the gift shop but it was fun to swim in their river. Didn’t feel like we were really out in nature.
My husband wanted to go faster on the atv- but it was fine for me as a newbie and more cautious person. The guides were very nice. It was overall ok- but very pricey for the experience we thought.

About 60 km from the hotel in Waikoloa, after passing Honokaa and driving for a while, we arrived at the ranch, which took about an hour. We hopped into a two-person buggy and started our adventure. First, we drove through the mountain course, encountering ducks, cows, and horses for an hour. After returning to the office, we took a break and enjoyed freshly picked pineapple to recharge, then spent the second hour on the coastal course. We could switch drivers at any time, which added to the thrill. On the way back, we were satisfied after eating the famous Malasada at Tex Drive In.
be prepared to get extra dirty, however this is the cost of extreme fun!!
Aloha Kara,
Thank you for your review. So glad you had a great time. The level of dirty does depend on the weather. It's hilarious to see how much the guests love the mud. lol
Mahalo!
We have family in Hilo so visit Big Island annually. Over the years, we have seen most of the "tourist" sites so we now spend most of our time going on hikes and hanging out with the family. This trip, our main event was the Hawaii ATV Ride Tour and we four had a blast. We all rode in the same vehicle and two of us took turns driving. It was a lot more exciting than it looks on the website, the paths are rutted and bumpy and great fun. The guides were also great fun and provided, for us, just the right amount of local history and character.
Great experience, highly recommend. Host are very gracious and very friendly.
My parents, my 8 yo son and I had a blast on the tour!
Henry was an awesome guide; we got a kick out of watching him chase a group of wild pigs. :-D He did a great job pointing out photo opportunities, wild animals, and educating us on the history of Kohala.
Jerry drove us to and from the meeting point. He was super friendly and shared lots of stories about growing up on the island and the importance of family. He also pointed out places to eat in Kohala on the way back, which was good because we were hungry!
Isiah was the second guide on our tour, and he picked ripe fruit from the land during our snack stop at a beautiful waterfall. It was fun to try all fruits and hang out with them, learning the history of the land.
Overall would highly recommend this tour!
Loved it! I’ve never done anything like this before and I had a great time
The whole team treated us good and taught us about their culture and the islands. I highly recommend this to everyone, the sights were beautiful.
We had a fantastic time! Everyone’s energy really helped make it great. If it is/was raining, prepare to get soaked
Get ready for getting dirty and having a fun time! All of the crew are great high energy and full of local information, you can feel their pride and excitement to share story and inform visitors about native culture and history, wonderful. They prioritize safety and everyone’s comfort, and the views are amazing! The trail is adventurous and a bumpy ride! Definitely the best Utv experience, don’t miss out! You’ll see the ocean and cliffs, , we got to see Maui from afar, small waterfall picnic stop with a taste of fresh guava. Overall would definitely do again!
This ATV ride was fun and bumpy, and it took us to places where we can see the beauty of the island period we start and head a treat and he gave us some knowledge of the plants that are native to the island. It was very much worth it for the Young people love to ride and drive the UTV
I would recommend this it’s a great out for the whole family. Great hosts very accommodating and fun to learn the Hawaiian culture
My hubby and I wanted to try this ATV experience since we enjoyed a similar one on Kauai the previous year and it did not disappoint!
Going through the trails and seeing the sites were completely beautiful. The private little waterfall/lagoon was also refreshing after being covered with the dust from the trail.
The one thing I would have liked is a bandana to cover the lower half of my face because the dust got all up in every crevice.
Hi Ann,
Thank you for your 5-Star review and your comment. We did sell bandannas at one point but I guess we sold out. We'll get on it! Thank you!
You need to check this out if you are not an experienced ATV rider, the tour guides are very patient and chill.
You will arrive to a beautiful area, check in, bet your gear and go over a few house rules. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO USE THE PROVIDED GOOGLES (not your sunglasses)! The road gets pretty dirt heavy and become difficult to see.
It's a short ride but they take you to a small water hole where you are given the opportunity to jump off the rock and into the water and afterwards a drive back.
Wear something that you can get dirty, do not wear white and do not bring items you do not want to get dirty. The dirt is like a clay color and sticks.
Our tours guides were great ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hey Stepheee,
Thanks for the review and great advise for future guests. Glad you had a great time!
No hate on other tour places and I def seen a few but the tour guides, the views and the experience is def #1 on this tour. I did a lot of extensive research and finalized this tour but it definitely exceeded my expectations. The views they take you on are incredible. I mean you will probably never see anything like it on any other tour. We actually seen another ATV tour on our ziplining adventure tour and I'm so glad I chose this one. Other tours are shorter and don't have the exciting adventure this one gives you. You are literally driving through a farm/valley/on the coast and then to a private water fall. You get fresh fruit picked off the trees guys its amazing Im telling you. If you are having trouble deciding I will decide for you THIS ONE IS IT! The tour guides gave us so much info, they were funny, gave us such a big history lesson and overall they just made this memorable. I wish i chose this company for my ziplining adventure as well. But you live and learn. Overall had a blast and def recommend. Also: Not to far from Kona and the views on the drive here are amazing.
I rode with a 9-year-old, and it was incredibly exciting. We went through the jungle, climbed up and down, which was quite thrilling (maybe because of my driving?). Ducks followed us at the pond, and we got to do some fishing. The view of the white-capped Pacific Ocean from the cliffs was amazing. Along the way, we saw some rare flowers and tried some fruits; it was a packed two and a half hours. In addition to our group of eight, there were two Western couples, and we had two friendly guides for our party of ten. I highly recommend it.
The crew was amazing, the views were incredible, the ride was exciting and the little stories and details made the experience memorable. I recommend doing this adventure!
The ATVs zoom you through this gorgeous open field. Gorgeous grounds to explore and a great day.
We had a great time as a family and would highly recommend this group. The guides are amazing!! Henry, Keanu and the others are so kind, positive and tell great stories. Our Kids ages15 and 12 throughly enjoyed it and kept saying “again”…. When going through bumpy, rocky areas. The UTV’s are in great shape and have great suspension (doesn’t mean you won’t feel the bumps). We felt safe the entire time. We would recommend to anyone wishing to have a great outdoor family adventure.
Family loved this tour! Make sure you book all guests though!
Scott and his partner did a great job. Wish they had regular ATVs instead of side by sides.
Hands down one of the best experiences we’ve had! We were there over Mother’s Day weekend and he was AMAZING… we definitely felt like we made a friend.. he dropped so much knowledge about everything that we couldn’t have been happier to learn what they do there and hand feed the ducks! …Of course the ATV’s were cool and the land beautiful but he truly made our experience what it was and we are so grateful.. thank you!
The guides were very animated and well versed with history. My husband was so impressed with the Honda machinery. We even saw wild pigs which was a favorite impromptu thing that happened. Well organized and seemed very safe. We got dustier than I expected but that was me being naive. Follow their instruction on what to bring and no worries. You will get dirty. We didn't get muddy but maybe if it was wetter we would have. We loved it and highly recommend this group.
If you’re looking for a fun and not so hot time this is the perfect activity. The area where this is held is fresh and vibrant and does a good job in showing out the land. Being able to run wild in a ATV is great and a good way to get dirty and ready for a swim at the falls! Early is the best as it can get packed later on and you’ll get the waterfall all to yourself. They provide drinks and snacks for you and the crew is a very cheerful and knowledgeable bunch that give you tips on how to enjoy your time in the island!
A must do, the guides were all amazing and extremely knowledgeable.
