Fortunately, we spotted a humpback whale right after leaving the harbor! And then, it jumped right in front of us! Both the guide and we were super excited.

Previously, I participated in a dolphin tour on Oahu, so this time I chose to see manta rays, which I had never seen before.

The crew was incredibly kind, and it was very reassuring to have staff who could speak Japanese.

We hopped on the boat and headed to the manta point!

During the ride, the sunset visible from the boat was stunning and moving. I tend to get seasick, so I took motion sickness medication from the start, which allowed me to enjoy the trip.

I was splashed with water, and my excitement was at its peak!

Upon arriving at the spot, I held onto the rope attached to the surfboard and waited for the manta rays to come close. It was a bit cold in the water during that time, but the guide checked on me several times, asking if I was okay.

When I actually saw the manta rays, the impact was incredible, and I was very moved. They were so close that I was really worried about accidentally touching them, but I was desperate to take photos.

On the way back, we were treated to hot chocolate and snacks, and there was a rather bitter ginger treat, which made me happy. This ginger was really delicious!

Since the wetsuits were wet on the way back, a bath towel is absolutely essential.

I spent a precious and happy time gazing at the beautiful starry sky over the dark sea.

水しぶきも浴び私のテンションはMAX！

スポットへ到着してサーフボードに付いてる紐を持って、ひたすらマンタが近寄ってくるのを待つ感じでした。
その間は水の中で少し寒かったのですが、ガイドさんが大丈夫？と何度も声をかけてくれました。

実際マンタを見ると、迫力がすごくて、とても感動しました。
とにかく近いので触れてしまわないかとてもとても心配でしたが私は写真を撮る事に必死でした。

帰りには、ホットチョコレートと、スナック、かなり苦いですがジンジャーの差し入れがあり、嬉しかったです。
このジンジャーがかなり美味しかった！

帰りはウェットスーツも濡れてるのでバスタオルは絶対必須です。

真っ暗な海を綺麗な星空を見ながら幸せな貴重な時間を過ごさせていただきました。

You have to do this activity! If you love sea creatures, and have not done this before, go for it! The Hula Kai is the way to go. Other tours are available, but the Hula Kai us the best outfit. Plan it early in the trip. It is highly unlikely that the Mantas will not show up, but if they don't, go again. It is only a couple of hours, and a reliable great time. You don't need to be an experienced snorkel / scuba person, they have a system all worked out. Very easy in and out of the water. Go for it!

I participated with my child who is under three years old. My husband and I planned to take turns going into the sea while one of us stayed on the boat with our child, but since the group went a bit far from the boat, that plan turned out to be difficult. In the end, we sat our son on a surfboard and both of us snorkeled with the other participants. At first, our child was scared and crying, but gradually he got used to it and said, "I'm not scared anymore." The staff were very kind to our youngest son, holding him so we could enjoy ourselves without worrying about him, and they were incredibly helpful.

I wasn't sure about the meeting place, but when I called the contact number, they kindly explained the location and even sent a photo of the map to my phone.

We had a great time, but I think it might be difficult for children under three to participate, depending on the staff.

集合場所もよく分からなかったのですが連絡先に電話を入れたらとても丁寧に場所を教えてくれて私の携帯に地図の写真まで送ってくれました。

とても楽しめましたがスタッフによっては３歳未満の参加は難しいかと思います。

Since I went to the Big Island, I absolutely wanted to see a manta ray! With high spirits, I joined this tour. I was really excited until I got into the water, but... since it was December, the water temperature was cold, and the waves were quite strong, so the conditions weren't great. Once I got in the water, it was really cold, and even though I took motion sickness medication, I ended up feeling seasick. I stayed in the water for 30 minutes, determined to see at least one manta ray, and I was able to see a few! The excitement I felt when I saw them was truly beyond words! However, I couldn't last until the end and had to get back on the boat after 30 minutes, feeling groggy... but this is also a memory of my trip.

The instructor, Torichan, was a very cheerful Japanese person, which made me feel really at ease. They lent us their personal windbreaker since we were feeling seasick and offered us warm drinks.

It was easy to communicate in Japanese, which was nice.

I want to see manta rays up close again, so I think I'll try for a rematch during the warmer season!

ハワイ島に行ったからには、絶対にマンタを見たい‼︎と、気合いいっぱいでこちらのツアーに参加しました。
海に入るまではノリノリでしたが…
12月という事もあって、水温は冷たくたまたま波のうねりも強く、とても良いコンディションとは言えませんでした。
海に入ると、とっても寒くて酔い止めを飲んでいましたが波酔いもしてしまいました。
一目でもマンタを見たいとねばり30分海に入ってて、数枚のマンタを見れました！
見た時の感動はほんとうに計り知れないものでした！
ただ、最後までは頑張れず30分で船に上がりグロッキー状態でしたが…笑
これも、旅の思い出です。
インストラクターのとりちゃんは
とっても明るい日本人の方で、とても安心できまし
た。船酔いしてる私たちに私物のウインドブレーカーを貸してくれたり、暖かい飲み物をくれたり。

日本語でやり取りできるから楽ちんでした。

もっともっと、近くでマンタが見たいので今度は暖かいシーズンでリベンジしたと思います！

My husband and I enjoyed the evening of going out on a canoe and then getting in the water and holding on to a lighted surf board to observing the huge mantas come right up to you! The young crew members were very friendly and helpful. They did provide a wet suit top but I regretted not having my full wet suit. Although it is in the "warm" Hawaiian water- after 30 minutes the water does steal your bodies warmth. So that would be my only suggestion to the average tourist. Despite the cold near the end, it was such a unique encounter that the amazing mantas- we were thrilled!

Overwhelmed by the manta ray approaching! 目前に迫るマンタに圧倒！

I participated in early November. I was worried about the cold for the night activity, but thanks to the wetsuit I rented, I didn't feel too cold underwater. If the waiting time underwater is long, it might be tough. Fortunately, we only waited about five minutes, and more than three mantas came to us, which made me forget the cold in amazement. The graceful mantas gliding right in front of me were breathtaking! The bright white bellies of the mantas illuminated by the lights stood out against the night sea, making it feel almost unreal. They kept coming until we got back on the surface, and I enjoyed it until the very end.

Once we got back on the boat, my body felt heavier than I expected, and the cold was tough. I'm glad I brought a thick towel and a windbreaker. Also, despite taking motion sickness medicine, I felt nauseous from the waves and couldn't drink cocoa.

Unfortunately, we couldn't see the sunset, so I’ll give it a ☆-1. However, I was very satisfied with the main manta experience! I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

11月初旬に参加しました。夜のアクティビティのため寒さが心配でしたが、借りたウェットスーツのおかげか水中ではあまり寒さを感じませんでした。水中での待機時間が長いとこたえるかもしれません。幸いにも私たちの場合は5分ほど待っただけで3枚以上のマンタが来てくれたので、感動で寒さも吹き飛びました。目の前を優雅に翻るマンタは圧巻です！ライトに照らされたマンタの真っ白な腹部が夜の海に映え、現実のこととは思えないほどでした。水上に上がるまで繰り返しマンタが来てくれて、最後まで満喫できました。
船上に上がってからは思った以上に体が重く、寒さがこたえました。厚手のタオルとウインドブレーカーを持って行ってよかったです。また、酔い止め薬を飲んで行ったのにも関わらず波酔いをしたのか、胸がむかむかしてココアが飲めませんでした。
残念ながら夕日が見られなかったので、☆-1つ。でも、メインのマンタを満喫できたので大満足です！友達にも勧めたいと思います。

This was my first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. I participated based on a friend's recommendation. Previously, I had joined a dolphin tour on Oahu, so I chose to see manta rays this time.

We took a helicopter ride to the manta point, and it felt like an attraction similar to a banana boat. The sunset visible from the boat was incredibly beautiful and moving. I thought manta rays were something to see at an aquarium (laughs), so I was really looking forward to this tour. Since it was a meet-up plan, I drove there with a rental car, but the meeting spot in the large harbor was a bit hard to find. It's best to allow a little extra time♪

The other participants were from overseas (maybe America?), and our guide, a very cute and cheerful girl named Ari, guided us in perfect Japanese as we traveled by boat for about 20 minutes to the point. It felt amazing; even though it was a small boat, the sensation of cutting through the wind and racing across the evening sea was the best. We encountered wild dolphins along the way, and they even stopped the boat for a bit, allowing us to see them up close. It seemed like the dolphins were coming over to us!

When we arrived at the manta point, we held onto a board with blue lights to watch the mantas. I was shocked to see them so close! I observed their large mouths, round eyes, and even the tips of their tails. It felt like they were dancing around, which was a strange sensation. I had imagined it would be more like just seeing them glide by, so it was quite a surprise.

Of course, since it was nighttime on the way back and my wetsuit was wet, please make sure to bring a bath towel and a windbreaker. The starry sky we saw on the way back was a breathtaking view with the majestic mountains over the sea.

他の参加者の方は海外の方たち（アメリカかな？）でしたが、とってもかわいくて明るいガイドのアリちゃんに、ばっちり日本語でガイドしてもらいながら20分ほど船でポイントまで行きます。これがとっても気持ち良くて、小さい船ですが風を切って夕方の海を疾走する感覚は最高でした。途中で野生のイルカにも遭遇して、少し船を止めてくれたのですごく近くで見ることができたし、イルカの方も寄ってきてくれてるようでした！
マンタポイントに着いて、ブルーライトの付いたボードにつかまってマンタを見るのですが、『えっ！こんなに近くで見れるの？！マンタってこんな姿をしてるんだ！』って、大きな口やつぶらな目、しっぽの先までマンタを隅々まで観察できました。くるくるとダンスをしてくれてるようでもあり、不思議な感覚でした。『すーっと通りすぎるのを見る』みたいなイメージだったので、びっくりしました。
さすがに、帰りは夜ですしウェットスーツも濡れてるのでバスタオルやウインドブレーカーをちゃんと持っていって下さいね。帰りに見た星空も、海の上で雄大な山々と共にのぞむ絶景でしたよ。

I stayed at the Sheraton Kona Resort, and it cost $40 (one way) by taxi from the hotel to the location. Even considering the tip, it was a good deal. For the return trip, I was told that there are no taxis waiting, so I asked the hotel staff to help me and made a round-trip reservation.

The return time was about an hour earlier than what was listed on the voucher. At the meeting point, the taxi driver and the guide spoke directly, so I didn't have to wait outside.

The meeting place took some time to reach, as the taxi driver was unsure even after I showed him pictures and maps. I recommend acting early.

The guide was very cheerful and spoke fluent Japanese!

The boat ride to the manta ray swimming point was quite fast and fun. Thanks to taking motion sickness medication after seeing other people's posts, I didn't get seasick. The sunset we saw along the way was also very beautiful!

When swimming with the manta rays, there were no life jackets, so as someone who can't swim at all, I was quite worried. However, I just had to hold onto the rope attached to the board and float, so I was able to enjoy it too. No worries!

I was able to see manta rays up close, and it was a very satisfying tour. Several manta rays came right in front of me multiple times, close enough to touch (though I didn't touch them).

By November, it gets cold on the way there (even colder on the way back), so I think it's better to bring a larger towel or something to wear.

到着迄は時間がかかりました。
早めの行動をおすすめします。

★ツアー内容
ガイドさんはとても明るく、日本語もペラペラでした♪

マンタと泳ぐポイント迄の船は、かなり猛スピードで楽しかったです。笑
他の方の投稿を見て酔い止めを飲んでおいたおかげか、船酔いはなかったです＾＾
途中で見た夕日もとてもきれいでした！！

マンタと泳ぐ際は、ライフジャケットもなかったので、
1ミリも泳げない私はとても心配でしたが、
ボードについているロープをつかんで浮いていれば良いだけだったので、
私でも楽しめました＾＾
心配無しです♪

目の前でマンタも見れ、とても大満足なツアーでした。
何匹ものマンタが何度も目の前に来てくれ、
触れるほどの距離です！（触れませんが＾＾）

11月ともなると行きから（帰りはもっと）寒いので、
大きめのタオルや羽織るもの等を持って行った方がよいと思います＾＾

We headed to the meeting place at Honokohau Harbor from Waikoloa by rental car, but there was a long traffic jam heading towards Kailua about 3 kilometers before Kona Airport, so it's better for those using a rental car to leave their accommodations early.

The meeting spot is a bit hard to find, but if you follow keywords like the large parking lot on the north side of the harbor (partly gravel), the big public restroom in the middle, and the building with a yellow fence and blue roof (which is easier to identify as a shed), you should be fine.

The boat can be quite bumpy, jumping on the waves, so if you are prone to seasickness, it's definitely advisable to take motion sickness medication that you bought in Japan. The boat will anchor at the manta ray viewing point, but the slight swaying here can also trigger seasickness.

The Japanese-speaking guide, Ali, is very friendly and cute. She explained the manta rays clearly for first-time participants. You hold onto a surfboard to keep your body horizontal and wait for the manta rays to come. That day, manta rays gathered one after another to feed, and we were able to see them doing flips right in front of us. It felt like they were looking at us with their big eyes, which was quite thrilling. The largest female manta ray is said to be over 4 meters long. I had an incredible and unforgettable experience, and I'm very excited. Mahalo.

集合場所のホノコハウハーバーへはワイコロアからレンタカーで向かいましたが、コナ空港手前3キロ位からカイルア方面に向って長い渋滞が起きていたのでレンタカーを利用して行く人は早めに宿を出た方が良いです。
待ち合わせ場所はちょっと分かりにくいけど、ハーバー北側の広い駐車場（一部砂利）、真ん中にある大きい公衆トイレ、黄色いフェンスと青い屋根の建物（小屋と行った方が分かりやすい）といったキーワードを辿って行けば大丈夫です。
ボートは結構激しく海面をジャンプしたりして揺れるので船酔いしやすい人は絶対に日本で買った酔い止めの薬を飲んだ方が良いです。マンタを見るポイントでボートを停泊しますが、ここでの微妙な横揺れも船酔いを誘発させます。
日本語を話すガイドのアリちゃんはとってもフレンドリーでキュートです。初めての参加の人にも分かりやすくマンタの説明をしてくれました。サーフボードにつかまって体を水平に保ちマンタが来るのを待ちます。この日は次から次へとマンタが餌を食べに集まり、目の前でくるんくるんと宙返りをする姿が直ぐ近くで見る事が出来ました。大きな目玉でギョロッとこちらを見ているような気がしてドキッとします。一番大きな雌のマンタは4メートル以上あるそうです。信じられないような未知なる体験をさせていただき大変興奮しています。Mahalo

Swimming with manta rays in the night sea was one of the things I wanted to do on the Big Island of Hawaii. My husband, who is terrified of swimming and entering the ocean at night, surprisingly enjoyed it as well.

First, we boarded a small boat and headed out to sea. The thrill of the speed was exhilarating! The sunset viewed from the boat was breathtaking. When the sun had completely set and it was dark, we arrived at the observation spot. We all held onto the board and floated while waiting for the manta rays. Although I said we were waiting, the rays were quickly attracted to the light beneath the board and came right up to us. I was so excited to see a manta ray glide just below my belly! The manta rays dancing gracefully in the night sea were truly mystical. I was able to take some great photos of them, and I was very satisfied!

However, as others have mentioned, it can be quite nauseating. The gentle rocking of the board was tougher than seasickness. Even my husband and I, who love thrilling rides, felt a bit queasy. It’s definitely a good idea to take motion sickness medication for peace of mind. A girl in our group looked pretty miserable from the nausea.

On the way back, we enjoyed the starry sky and felt the grandeur of the Big Island. If you’re considering participating in this activity, you absolutely should!

まず、小さなボートに乗って沖へ出ます。スピード感がスリリング‼ボートから見る夕陽は絶景です。
陽も沈みすっかり暗くなった頃に、観測スポットに到着。みんなでボードに掴まり、プカプカと浮きながらマンタを待ちます。待つと書きましたが、ボードの下の光に引き寄せられ、すぐにマンタが寄ってきます。自分のお腹下スレスレを通るマンタに大興奮♪夜の海で、ゆったりと優雅に舞うマンタは神秘的です。マンタの写真もバッチリ撮れて、大満足!!!
ただし、他の参加者の方も書かれているように、けっこう酔います。船酔いよりも、ボードのゆったりとした揺れがキツかった。絶叫系アトラクションが大好きな私たち夫妻でも、酔いました。酔い止めは飲んだほうが、安心です。一緒のグループだった女の子は、酔ってしまいかなり辛そうでした。
帰りのボートでは、星空が楽しめ、ハワイ島の雄大さを感じられます。
アクティビティに参加するか迷っている方は、絶対にやるべきです！

I thought the guide would be Japanese since they spoke Japanese, but they were actually from an English-speaking country. Haha! Of course, their Japanese was excellent, so it wasn't a problem.

When floating on the surface of the water, it's truly moving to see the manta rays swimming right beside you!

However, while traveling it was fine, but the boat during our stay really made me feel seasick... I took motion sickness medication, but I was still in a pretty groggy state.

Also, the light snacks were basically chocolate bars, haha!

日本語を話せるガイドさんということで、てっきり日本人かと思っていたら、普通に英語圏の方でした。笑
勿論、日本語お上手だったので問題はありませんでした。

海面に浮かんでいると、マンタが本当に身体すれすれを泳いでいくので感動します！

On our second visit to the Big Island on October 17, we decided to challenge ourselves with manta watching. We were a bit anxious at the start since our beautiful driver couldn't speak Japanese, but it turned out to be lucky as we were the only two Japanese participants on the tour, allowing us to have the shuttle and our guide, Tori, all to ourselves. The boat ride to our destination off the coast of Kona was thrilling, comparable to a ride at an amusement park, and we all cheered while enjoying the fun journey, plus we got to admire a beautiful sunset. On the way back, we also enjoyed a starry sky, so we never had a dull moment during the trip. During the main event, it was an incredible day as manta rays continuously swirled beneath me with their mouths wide open, making me gasp in awe. I was amazed by how many times the mantas brushed against the bar I was holding onto, yet I felt no fear at all. I think this might be my last chance to visit the Big Island, but I had a truly moving experience and created wonderful memories. Thank you to all the staff.

10/17　2度目のビッグアイランド訪問でやり残していたマンタウォッチに夫婦でチャレンジしました。迎えの美人ドライバーが日本語しゃべれないのでちょっと不安なスタートでしたが、当日のツアーは日本人の参加者が私たち二人だけでしたので送迎車も日本人ガイドのトリさんも独占状態でラッキーでした。コナ空港沖の目的地までのボート移動もライド系アトラクション並の衝撃とスリルでみんなで歓声を上げながら楽しい移動を体験でき、おまけに綺麗な夕日が鑑賞できました。帰路も満天の星空鑑賞付でしたので移動も暇をもてあそぶことはありませんでした。本番も、大当たりの日で私の下をひっきりなしにマンタが大きな口を開けて旋回し続け、声にならないうめき声をあげつつけていました。つかまっているバーの手に何度もマンタが触れてくるという接近戦に感動しつつも恐怖心は全くありませんでした。ビッグアイランドに来れるのも最後かと思いますが最後に感動的な経験をできいい思い出ができました。スタッフのみなさんありがとう。

We used this service for our honeymoon (﹡ˆˆ﹡). First of all, as others have mentioned, I had trouble finding the meeting point; I'm glad I planned to arrive a bit early. Once we arrived, we changed into half-pants wetsuits and boarded the boat for departure! The boat ride was thrilling, comparable to a roller coaster, and the 15 minutes until we reached the snorkeling area were a blast! (It might have helped that I took motion sickness medication beforehand...)

On the boat, our cute guide "Ali-chan," who spoke Japanese well, explained interesting facts about manta rays! This made me even more excited about seeing them!

Once the sun set, we began snorkeling. We all held onto a board with a rope while snorkeling. My husband can't swim, but he had no problems snorkeling at all!! (He was very happy about this ^^)

As for the mantas, we saw them five times that day☆ I was really happy to see them five times, but according to Ali-chan, that was fewer than usual... After swimming, we returned to the harbor while sipping warm cocoa. The starry sky was beautiful!!!

If I have the chance to go to the Big Island again, I would love to participate again!!

着いたら、半ズボンタイプのウェットスーツに着替えて、ボートに乗って出発です！このボートが、ジェットコースター並にスリリングで、シュノーケリングエリアに着くまでの15分ぐらい終始楽しかったです！(事前に酔い止めを飲んでいたからよかったのかもしれませんが･･･)
船の上では、可愛くて日本語も上手なガイドの「アリちゃん」が、マンタに関する知識を解説してくれました！これで、余計にマンタに対する楽しみな気持ちが高まりました！
日が沈んだら、シュノーケリングの開始です。
みんなでロープのついたボードにつかまってシュノーケリングをします。ですので、私の旦那は泳げませんが、何の問題もなくシュノーケリングできました！！(本人はこれにとても喜んでました^^)
そして肝心のマンタですが、この日は5回マンタが見れました☆私としては、5回も見れてとても嬉しかったですが、アリちゃんによるといつもよりも少ないそうです･･･
泳ぎ終わったら、あったかいココアを飲みながら帰港しました。星空がとても綺麗でした！！！
また、ハワイ島に行くことがあれば、参加したいです！！

I heard that the meeting place was difficult to find, but a very kind taxi driver helped us and we arrived safely.

The sunset we saw while bouncing on the boat to the manta ray viewing point was incredibly beautiful. However, it was bouncing so much that it was hard to take pictures (laughs).

As soon as I jumped into the sea, a manta ray came right to us. Two manta rays seemed to be playing with us, gracefully approaching and flipping over. They were so close that I felt like I could touch them (but you shouldn't touch them). I kept shouting, "Wow, so cute!" for a long time. They stayed close for quite a while, so I was able to see their faces, mouths, bellies (undersides), and tails clearly. I was a bit worried they might be scary, but the manta rays were adorable, beautiful, elegant, and cute. I was very satisfied.

As a second-time snorkeler, I ended up feeling seasick afterward and had to return to the boat a little earlier than everyone else. Maybe it was the garlic shrimp I ate for lunch that didn't sit well... (laughs). I'm sorry to the Japanese guide, Tori-chan, for the trouble.

On the other hand, my friend who went with me was super energetic and took tons of pictures.

On the way back, the left side of the boat had a sparkling night view, while the right side was filled with stars. It was fulfilling until the very end. I had a great time and highly recommend it.

結構長く近くにいてくれたので顔や、口の中や、お腹（裏側）や、しっぽもしっかり見る事ができました。
ちょっとコワいのかなと心配していましたが、マンタは愛らしく、美しく、優雅でかわいかったです。大満足です。

シュノーケル２回目の私はその後波酔いしてしまい、みなさんよりほんの少しだけ早くボートに戻してもらいました。ランチでいっぱい食べたガーリックシュリンプがダメだったのか…(笑)
日本人ガイドのトリちゃんにはお世話になってしまいスミマセンでした。

一方、一緒に行った友人は超元気で写真を撮りまくってました。

帰りのボートは左手はキラッキラの夜景、右手はたっくさんの星。
最後まで充実。
楽しかったです。おすすめです。

The staff were really nice.
First, we rode on a boat that felt like a roller coaster and went to the sea in front of the Sheraton Hotel.
It was so much fun riding the fast boat while watching the sunset!
Once we reached the spot, we grabbed onto a surfboard with lights underneath and waited for the manta rays while looking at the fish below.
Seeing the manta rays in person was impressive—huge, close, and mysterious!

The sea temperature where we went is said to be the warmest throughout the year, so I didn't feel too cold at first.
However, snorkeling while staying still for a long time, even in such warm water, became quite chilly. Lying face down with my back and heels exposed made it very cold.

It felt like about 30 minutes?

Honestly, it felt long. After getting back on land, I was incredibly seasick and ended up vomiting into the sea, haha.
I've snorkeled many times before, but this was my first time feeling that way.
Another fish came by, which was fun to see, haha.

However, I noticed other tour guests were feeling the same way, so I thought some kind of motion sickness remedy might be necessary.

Staying still for such a long time while looking down at the fish became painful as time passed, especially with the cold.

I would appreciate it if there could be some time to lift our heads and move around, or take a break on the board to avoid staying still for too long.

We saw plenty of manta rays and fish, and the night sea was mysterious and very beautiful! The staff were also really great! I learned some fun facts about manta rays, which made me like them even more.

I think it would be an outstanding tour if there were just some measures for motion sickness!

ただ、他のツアーのお客様もそのようになっていたので、少し酔い対策見たいなものは必要かな？と思いました。

じっとしているのがとにかく長く、魚を下を向いて見ているのが時間が経つごとに寒さとともに苦痛になってくる。

なので、顔を上げて動く時間や、一回休憩を挟んでボードで休むなど、じっとしたままじゃな時間を作ってほしいです。

マンタも魚もたくさん見れて、夜の海はミステリアスでとても綺麗！スタッフさんもとっても良い！マンタのプチ知識なども知れて、マンタがより好きになりました☆

酔い対策さえあれば抜群のツアーだと思いました♪

I recently participated in an event. On the day of the event, the departure was delayed due to the ship we were boarding, but we were taken to a spot nearby where we could see sea turtles. I was very happy to see the turtles up close. Of course, we also encountered manta rays!

As mentioned in other comments, please be aware that the meeting point is quite difficult to find. I have attached a photo of the location, but here are the key points a to c:
a. There are no stores or signs at the location.
b. There is a large parking area on the north side of the bay, so please park your car there. The restroom in the middle of the parking area should serve as a landmark.
c. In one corner of that parking lot, there is a waiting area with a yellow wall and a blue roof, which is the meeting point. The yellow and blue should help you identify it.

I have three pieces of advice for preparation based on our reflections:
1. I recommend taking motion sickness medication before participating. Even if you don't get seasick, you might feel queasy from the ocean waves!
2. The return boat ride can be cold since you will be wet from the sea. Bringing a thick and large towel, like a hotel bath towel, is recommended for warmth!

a.現地に店舗や看板はありません。
b.湾の北側に大きな駐車スペースがあるので、そこに車を止めましょう。駐車スペースの真ん中にトイレがあるのが目印となると思います。
c.その駐車場の隅の一画に黄色の壁で青色の屋根の待機スペースがあり、そこが集合場所となっています。黄色と青色が目印になるはずです。
事前準備としてのアドバイスが3点あります。我々の反省点を踏まえて1〜3に記載しますので参考になさってください。
1.酔い止めを飲んで参加することをお勧めします。船に酔わなくても海の波に酔ってしまうこともありますので要注意です！
2.帰りの船は海に濡れたまま走行するので寒いです。ホテルのバスタオル位分厚くて大きなのを持っていくと防寒になりますのでオススメです！
3.船に持込む袋はビニールをかぶせるか防水の効いた物が良いと思います。現地に行くまでの船上、海の波しぶきが飛んでくるので、荷物も含めて全身濡れてしまいますので！

I visited the Big Island to see manta rays on my first trip to Hawaii. I took a taxi to the meeting point at Honokohau Harbor, but I wasn't sure where the exact location was, so I wandered around the area for a while... It took about 20 to 30 minutes by boat to reach the manta ray point. マンタのポイントまでは船で20~30分程度。ポイントに到着するとLEDライトのついたビート板に捕まり海をプカプカ(LEDライトの光にプランクトンが寄ってきて、それをマンタが食べに来る)。10分程度すると光に寄ってきたプランクトンで海中は濁ります。「視界が悪くなってきたなぁ...」と思った瞬間、足元にはマンタが！
私たちの捕まるビート板の(LEDライトの光に群がる)プランクトンめがけて、マンタがやってきました！
1~2回、ビート板の付近を縦に旋回してくれました。その後も何匹かのマンタが私たちの周りをクルクルと！
優雅に泳ぐマンタをとても近くで見る事が出来て大興奮！！！

船から上がると少し寒いです(私たちが参加したのは10月だったので、少し水温は低かったかもしれません)。暖かい飲み物は頂けますが、上着やバスタオルは持って行った方が良いですね。
あと、船酔いする人もチラホラと...。酔い止めは飲むことを強くお勧めします。

There were about three staff members and around 15 customers. The Japanese instructor, Tori, was very cheerful and friendly. There was also an American captain and another American instructor. English-speaking guests were on the same board, heading to the spot while watching the sunset.

Once we arrived at the spot, we held onto a board with blue lights and waited for the manta rays to arrive while snorkeling. At first, they didn't come, and I thought I was getting tired, but then two manta rays appeared right in front of me and started swirling around! We weren't allowed to touch them, but the waves made our bodies sway quite a bit, and I thought I might bump into a manta ray (laughs).

There were also divers at the bottom, shining underwater flashlights to create blue lights. It felt like being in outer space.

I got pretty tired from the swaying, but it was a great experience.

ポイントに着いたら、ブルー色の照明が積んであるボードに捕まって、スノーケリング状態でマンタの到来を待つ。最初はなかなか来なくて、疲れたなと思ったら、2枚のマンタが目の前に来てぐるぐる回り始めました！手で触ってはいけないのですが、波で体はかなり揺れるので、マンタにぶつかるかと思いました（笑）。
水底にはダイビングの方もいて、水中電灯でブルー色の明かりを照らしていました。宇宙にいるような感覚でした。
揺れで結構疲れましたが、いい体験となりました。

The night ocean was sparkling with plankton, like jewels, creating a very magical atmosphere. Watching the twinkling plankton made time feel slow, as if I had entered another dimension.

As I was daydreaming, a large manta ray came by. It swam so close that I thought it would bump into me as it did a full turn! At first, I was nervous, but I gradually got used to it and thought, "Come on, manta!"

Before I knew it, time flew by as I was completely absorbed in the experience.

その光に寄ってきながらプランクトンを食べるマンタを見ます。
フィンなしでシュノーケルのみでサーフボードについている縄を持ちながら
浮かんでマンタを待ちます。

夜の海中はプランクトンがキラキラと宝石のようでとても幻想的。
キラキラ舞うプランクトンを見ていると
時間軸もゆっくりゆっくり。。
別の異次元にきたように感じました。

ぼんやりしていると、大きなマンタが来ました。
大きな体をくるっと一回転して、私の身体にぶつかる！と思うほど
近くを通っていきました。
最初は、ドキドキしましたが、次第に慣れてきて、
マンタ！きて！！と思いました。

夢中になっていると時間はアッと言う間でした。

ボートにあがると、出発前は夕陽でキレイだったのに
真っ暗になっていました。

そしてウエットスーツを着ているにも関わらず寒かったです。

このツアーはガイドのトリちゃんがとても親切でステキな方です。
名前を憶えてくれ、名前で呼んでもらえることで
親近感を持てて嬉しかったし、また来たい！と思いました。
更に、ハワイ島の情報を教えてもらい、一石二鳥のツアーでした。

I visited the Big Island of Hawaii for the first time, and my main goal was to see manta rays! That's why I joined this tour.

First, there was our Japanese female guide, Torichan (sorry, I forgot her full name...). We drove there by rental car, but the place was so vast that we couldn't find the university and ended up going in circles until she kindly approached us. She had a perfect sun-kissed body, was energetic and kind, and made the tour enjoyable.

The tour started with us changing into wetsuits and listening to a brief explanation and safety instructions. Then we set off on a Zodiac boat. The boat had long benches facing away from each other, but we were thrilled to sit facing forward on the cooler at the front! (Once we left the harbor, we got to ride on the edge of the boat like on a banana boat.) It was exhilarating and quite bumpy. My companion gets seasick, so they took medication beforehand, but the rocking was so intense that it was beyond just feeling sick (laughs)...

Once we arrived at the spot, we took turns entering the night sea, holding onto modified surfboards, and waited for the manta rays while snorkeling horizontally. To keep ourselves horizontal, we placed our feet on noodles to float. They would slip off quickly, but if you shouted, "It slipped off!" the guide would help you put your feet back on. The guide did an amazing job in the pitch-black sea. m(_ _)m

Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long, and the manta rays came right away! It was truly incredible! We were so excited to see three to four manta rays gracefully swimming slowly! (This excitement continued in the car ride back and even after returning to the hotel.) After about 20 minutes, the manta rays swam away, and the tour ended safely.

On the way back, we enjoyed the thrill of speeding across the dark sea. I don't get seasick, but there were about 19 people, both Japanese and foreigners, and some of them felt unwell. Since there's a possibility of getting seasick while moving on the boat or floating in the sea, I recommend being in good health and fully prepared to participate. Otherwise, the amazing experience might be diminished.

Actually, we had to change our original reservation date due to bad weather, and I appreciate the courteous handling of the cancellation notice and reservation change over the phone. We were scheduled to move to Oahu the day after, so it was great that we could seize this last chance.

I'm glad I graduated from university after skipping middle and high school!!

今回初めてハワイ島を訪れました。その最大の目的はマンタを見ること！そのためこのツアーに参加しました。
まずは日本人女性ガイドのとりちゃん（すみません、フルネーム忘れました...）。レンタカーで行ったのですが、場所が広すぎて大学が発見できずグルグルしていると、声をかけて頂きました。完璧な日焼けボディで、元気で優しく、ツアーを楽しませてもらいました。
ツアーは、ウェットスーツに着替えて最初簡単な説明と注意事項等を聞き、ゾディアックボートで出発。ボートには背中合わせで横向きに長椅子があるのですが、私たちは先頭のクーラーボックスに正面向きに座らせてもらい感激！（港を出るとボートの淵にバナナボート風に乗せてもらえます。）スピード感あり結構揺れて楽しめます。連れは船酔いするため事前に薬は飲んではいたものの、揺れが激しすぎて酔うどころではなかったと（苦笑）...
さてポイントに到着後、順番に夜の海に入り改造サーフボードにつかまり、身体水平シュノーケリングでマンタを待ちます。水平を保つためヌードルに足の甲をのせて浮かせます。すぐに外れますが「外れたぁ～！」と叫べば、ガイドさんがまた足をのせてくれます。ガイドさん真っ暗な海上で大仕事です。m(_ _)m
この日はそれほど待つこともなく、すぐにマンタやってきました！ほんと、ヤバいです！この日は３～４枚ほどのマンタの優雅でスローな泳ぎに大興奮！！（この興奮は、帰りの車中はもちろん、ホテルへ戻ってからも続いてました。）２０分程でマンタもどこかへ行ってしまって、無事終了。
帰りも真っ暗な海を疾走するボートを楽しめます。
僕は船酔いしないのですが、この日も日本人＋外国人あわせて１９名ほどいらっしゃいましたが、具合を悪くされた方がいらっしゃいました。ボート移動や海に浮かんでいる時など酔われる可能性あるので、体調は整えて準備万端で参加されることをお勧めします。最高の感動が半減しちゃいますからね。
実は私たちは、当初の予約日が荒天のため翌日に変更してもらいました。その際も現地にてお電話で中止連絡頂や予約変更をご丁寧に対応頂き、感謝しております。翌々日はオアフ島へ移動する予定だったので、ラストチャンスを物にでき良かったです。
中・高とばして大学夜学部を無事卒業できてよかったです！！

I participated in this tour because I wanted to see wild mantas, which you have a high chance of encountering. Since I had rented a car, I opted for a meeting point, but it was a bit difficult to find. The meeting place is at Honokohau Harbor, not Honokohau Marina (you need to take the first right after entering the side road from the highway), and I wandered around the area for a while.

The tour had a mixed team of foreigners and Japanese, and there was a Japanese-speaking guide as well. After departing, we headed to the manta spot on a high-speed boat while enjoying a very beautiful sunset. The 20-minute journey was thrilling at high speed. Although I usually don’t get seasick, I felt a bit queasy.

Once we arrived, we put on our snorkeling gear and floated on the surface, waiting for the mantas to come. It was exhilarating to see the mantas swimming close by, coming to eat the plankton in the water. I had never seen such a sight, with their mouths wide open.

レンタカーを借りていたので現地集合にしましたが、集合場所はやや分かりにくいです。ホノコハウマリーナではなくホノコハウハーバー(ハイウェイから脇道に入って一つ目の分岐を右)の最も奥が集合場所で、しばらく付近をさ迷ってしまいました。
ツアーは外国の方と日本人の混成チームで、日本語のガイドの方もいらっしゃいます。
出航後は、非常に美しい夕日を見ながら高速ボートでマンタスポットまで向かいます。20分程の道のりは、ハイスピードでスリル満点。盛り上がりましたが、普段乗り物酔いしない私でもやや船酔いしました。
到着後は、シュノーケルを装置して海面に浮かび、マンタがやって来るのを待ちます。海中のプランクトンを食べにやって来たマンタが至近距離をグルグルと泳ぐ姿は美しく、非常に興奮しました。マンタの口の中まで丸見えで、あのような光景は見たことがありませんでした。

First, when we arrived at the harbor and headed to the meeting point, the staff member, Tori-chan, greeted us very cheerfully and friendly! On that day, there were two couples, my husband and I, and a newlywed couple, along with four Japanese staff members from Honolulu participating.

Despite the small number of people, we got to ride on a large rubber boat! The edge of the rubber boat was designed like a banana boat, allowing us to enjoy activities while watching the beautiful sunset. As soon as we arrived, the sun began to set, and we all enjoyed the stunning sunset together, taking photos.

Once the sun went down and we looked at the sea, there were manta rays right there!! We quickly got ready and headed into the water! The sight of three manta rays dancing was exhilarating. Without having to wait for the manta rays to come to us, they approached us repeatedly, coming so close that we could almost touch them!!

The thirty minutes flew by, and the other tour guests returned to the boat. Tori-chan and the other staff members were very attentive, providing support and encouragement to me since I couldn't swim, allowing me to enjoy watching the manta rays without any anxiety. The only downside was that my camera didn’t work well, and I couldn’t take any photos underwater.

On the way back, we enjoyed a relaxing time under the full moonlight and the night view of Kona. With the banana boat ride, sunset, full moon, and night view, this tour offered many wonderful experiences beyond just the manta rays!!

At the end of the tour, we received a cute graduation certificate from Manta University. What kind of certificate it is will be a surprise for those who participate in the tour. Thank you so much, Tori-chan, the captain, and all the staff from Honolulu. Such a wonderful and emotional experience is rare! If you come to the Big Island, I definitely think you should join this tour.

あっという間の３０分間が終わり、他のツアー客もみんなボートへ。
鳥ちゃんや他のスタッフさんが泳げない私への声掛けやフォローを丁寧にしてくれて、少しの不安もなく、マンタが踊る姿を楽しめました。ただ、カメラがうまく機能せず、海の中の写真が全然取れなかったのだけが残念です・・。
帰りは、満月の月明かりとコナの夜景にうっとりしながら、まったりとした時間を過ごす事ができました。
バナナボートにサンセット、満月に夜景と、このツアーではマンタ以外にもいくつもの感動が味わえました!!
また、ツアーの最後にマンタ大学のかわいい卒業証書がもらえます。どんな卒業証書かは、ツアーに参加してのお楽しみに。
鳥ちゃん、船長さん&ホノルルスタッフのみなさん本当にお世話になりました。こんな素敵な感動体験はめったにできません！
ハワイ島に来たなら、是非参加してみるべきツアーだと思います。

We participated in this tour for our honeymoon. We chose a tour that gathered at the meeting point, and although we arrived early at the port by rental car, we got lost because the port was so large (we had received a clear map in advance, but I forgot it at the hotel...) and ended up being over 15 minutes late to meet everyone! I felt really bad for making the tour group wait, but the staff welcomed us with smiles, which made me feel so relieved.

Once everything was ready, we finally set sail! The captain sped the boat up, and when I straddled the edge of the boat, it felt like a thrilling roller coaster ride! (Of course, you can also sit inside the boat). The sunset reflecting on the sparkling sea was incredibly beautiful.

Just as our excitement peaked, we arrived at Manta Point. There were many manta tour boats floating on the water, creating a very magical and beautiful scene. After getting back on the boat, we sped through the dark sea like a roller coaster again. Unlike the outbound trip, the lights from the land were so beautiful against the dark sea.

I was truly excited until the very end! Next time, I definitely want to join the dolphin tour on the Big Island! The staff were bright and fun, and I was very satisfied! Thank you!

現地集合をするツアーにしたのですが、レンタカーで集合場所の港には早めについたものの、港が広くて迷ってしまい（ちゃんと分かり易い地図は予め頂いていたのですが、ホテルに忘れてきてしまって・・・）15分以上遅れてやっと合流できました！ツアーの方をみんな待たせてしまっていたので申し訳なさで緊張していたのですが、スタッフの方が笑顔で迎えてくれて、すごくほっとしました。
そして準備が整い、ついに出港！キャプテンが船をビューっと飛ばして、船のふちにまたがれば、まるでジェットコースターみたいにスリル満点！（船の中で座って乗る事ももちろんできます）。サンセットできらめく海がとても綺麗で素敵でした。
テンションが上がりきったところでマンタポイントに到着。
たくさんのマンタツアーのボートが海に浮いていて、とても幻想的で綺麗でうっとり。
そして待ちに待った海の中へ！
海水は少し温かめで、ウェットスーツも貸して頂けたので全く寒くなかったです。
船から小さな浮くボートのようなものをだし、そこにつかまります。私は泳げないので少し心配だったのですが、スタッフの方がアテンドしてくれたので全く問題ないです！
シュノーケルをセットして、水中をのぞきながらマンタを待ちます。
そしてそして！！！念願のマンタが！私達の浮いている下の方を泳いでいるのが最初は見え、それだけでも興奮したのに、次ぎは目の前でくるりと回転してくれたのです！骨格からえらの中まで見れるくらい目の前にいるマンタに大興奮！！残念ながらそこまで近くに来てくれたのはその一回でしたが、何枚かのマンタが優雅に泳いでいるのが見えました。
船に上がって、またジェットコースターのように暗い海を走ります。往路とは違い、暗い海から陸の光がとても綺麗でした。
最後まで本当に大興奮！今度はハワイ島イルカ高校にもぜひ参加したいと思います！
スタッフの方も明るく楽しくて、とても満足です！ありがとうございました！

We didn't have the best start for our manta ray snorkeling - trouble checking in for our flight the day after stressed us a lot, so we were not really in the mood. But despite me getting pretty seasick, being in the water and experiencing these magnificent and majestic fish feeding was an amazing experince. I so much wanna do it again - but next time without being seasick :) Thanks to the crew and captain for being so nice to me
