The Mission Behind the Sanctuary

The relocation to its present site occurred by 2009, but the sanctuary’s foundation actually began earlier with cat sterilization efforts starting in 2004, using a horse corral in the Koele area. By relocating stray cats to the sanctuary, the organization reduces their impact on local wildlife while giving them a safe, loving home.

Growth and Community Support

The sanctuary covers approximately 3.5 to 4 acres, which is about 25,000 square feet. What started with just a few dozen cats has grown into a sprawling sanctuary housing over 600. With community donations and global support, the sanctuary continues to thrive as a model of animal welfare and conservation.

Things to Do at the Lanai Cat Sanctuary

Meet the “Lanai Lions”

Cat Cuddling & Playtime

Bring toys (or borrow some from the sanctuary) and watch the cats chase, jump, and play. It’s a great way to interact with the more energetic residents.

Cat Naps in the Shade

Many cats love lounging under trees and huts. Visitors can sit quietly and enjoy peaceful moments surrounded by purring companions.
