Before boarding the boat, a local person guided us in Japanese, and even after getting on the ship, they communicated in simple English and Japanese, so I don't think there will be any communication issues at all. It was a unique experience to float on the sea with just my body. If you hand them your phone and ask, they will take pictures for you, and there was no charge for photography! (However, since I really enjoyed myself, I gave a tip at the end as a thank you.) I carefully selected this tour for my one-week trip to Hawaii. I participated with my children, aged 6, 9, and 12. There were quite a few moments of turbulence, and my middle child felt a bit seasick, but we enjoyed the views of Diamond Head from the opposite side of Waikiki Beach and the sunset over Waikiki. We boarded the boat in groups, and for those participating alone, other participants would ride twice to ensure everyone was in tandem. Saw Jake Shimabukuro recently at Blue Note Hawaii and was utterly blown away. I've never seen a musician with such complete mastery over their instrument. With a simple flick of the wrist, he can make the ukulele sound like a harp, koto or even an electric guitar. His original compositions are powerful and diverse, and everything is magnified by the great acoustics in Blue Note's venue. The food is worth a try too!
