I came to the Rock-a-Hula show as a first-timer to Hawaii to catch a show with my family. It offers a lively, pre-packaged, easy-to-digest introduction to hula, Hawaiian culture, and local history—mixed with plenty of iconic pop-culture moments that Hawaii has embraced and celebrated over time. The experience is broken into a few different ticket options, and what you pay really affects what you get. Here’s what to know before you go:

1. Ticket options & pricing
You can choose between show-only tickets or a luau buffet paired with the show. Pricing varies quite a bit. I was able to snag a 2-for-1 show-only deal, which came out to about $43 per person, and I also saw a single-ticket promo for around $60. The luau + show packages run $100+ depending on whether you upgrade to VIP. The buffet is definitely better suited for non-vegetarians, but there are some meat-free options.

2. The venue & overall vibe
This is a non-traditional show set in a large, comfortable amphitheater on the top floor of a shopping plaza. The show opens with a short historical video about the land and people of Hawaii set in 1920, which sets the timeline for the rest of the performance. From start to finish, the show runs about 1 hour and 10 minutes—just the right length in my opinion.

3. Show highlights
The pacing starts off a bit slow with traditional hula dancers and singers, then really picks up steam once the show moves into the 1950s. The Elvis segment is the longest and most prominent, and honestly, the performer is impressively spot-on in both voice and movement, covering several of Elvis’s biggest hits.

From there, the show transitions into tributes to the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson, his dance moves really get the audience excited with high-energy dance numbers. You’ll also see nods to familiar cultural touchstones like Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” Moana, and finally, a dramatic flaming poi performance honoring the fire goddess.

The driver arrived at the pickup location on time and was very kind to us, even though we are Japanese! If you're planning to climb Diamond Head, I definitely recommend going early in the morning. We were able to see a beautiful sunrise! ♪

Anyone can climb it. However, to climb Diamond Head, prior application is required, so it might be easier to join a tour like this. If you can apply in advance by yourself, it would be cheaper to get to the trailhead by bus or Uber.

誰でも登れます。但し、ダイヤモンドヘッドを登るには、事前申請が必要なので、このようなツアーで参加するのが楽かも知れません。自分自身で事前申請ができるのであれば、登山口まで、バスやウーバーで行った方が安いでしょう。

I applied with my husband and grandchild. The pickup was about 10 minutes late. I was moved by the wonderful experience and returned home feeling touched. January is the rainy season, and it rained a lot, but it seems we were able to see the sunrise, which was great! It was a bit pricey, but the transportation service was the right choice. 👍

I was moved by the fire dance! At the end, we were able to take photos, which became a nice memory. Since it's at the Hawaiian Center, the location is great, and I highly recommend it!

I signed up for the tour because I wanted to enjoy authentic hula. The hula dance and fire dance were spectacular and very impressive. In the impersonation show, there were performers resembling Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, and since I belong to the generation that grew up with Michael Jackson, it was great to enjoy both his songs and dance.

本場のフラが楽しめるということで、ツアーを申し込みしました。
フラダンスやファイヤーダンスは圧巻でとても良かったです。
モノマネショーではエルビスプレスリーやマイケルジャクソンのそっくりさんがパフォーマンスをされていて、特にマイケルジャクソンはドンピシャ世代なので、歌とダンスが楽しめて良かったです。

We participated as a family of three, and the experience of looking down at the city and the sea from such a high place was refreshing. We were very satisfied. Since the photos didn't turn out well, it might be better not to ask for them.

家族3人で参加しましたが、遥か高いところから街や海を眺める体験は爽快でした。大満足です。写真はちゃんと撮れているのないので、頼まない方がいいかも。

The weather was nice, which allowed us to see some very beautiful scenery! It was a really enjoyable experience.

The staff is accustomed to dealing with Japanese customers, but the explanations will be in English. However, during the boat ride, there are also explanations in Japanese, so I think it would be reassuring to pay attention to those as well.

You can have photos taken during the experience for an additional fee, and since they took many pictures, it became a great memory. I definitely recommend requesting this!

天気が良かったことも幸いし、非常に良い景色が見られました！とても楽しい体験でした。
スタッフの方は日本人の対応にも慣れている方ではありますが、説明は英語になります。船で移動中に流れる説明では日本語でも説明があるので、そちらも注意して聞いていた方が安心して臨めるかと思います。
別料金で体験中の写真を撮っていただくことができるのですが、たくさん撮っていただけていい思い出になったため、ぜひお願いすることをおすすめします！

The pickup and reservation process was very helpful. Since there was plenty of time until the meeting point for the descent, I was able to climb Diamond Head at my own pace and take lots of photos. On the way back, the route was to the hotel, but when I mentioned that I wanted to go to the KCC Market instead of the hotel, they kindly took me to the KCC Market and dropped me off there. The driver was cheerful, and it was a very enjoyable time.

お迎えや予約の手続きも助かりました。
下山の集合までたっぷり時間があったのでダイアモンドヘッドに自分のペースで登ることもでき、たくさん写真も撮ることができました。帰りはホテルまでのコースでしたが、ホテルではなくKCCマーケットへ行きたいと伝えたら、快くKCCマーケットまで送ってくれてそこで下車しました。
ドライバーさんも明るくてとても楽しい時間でした。

My first parasailing experience!! The view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach from up high was so beautiful! The staff at the shop were kind and fun, making it an enjoyable experience.

The driver spoke English, so there was still a language barrier. Although there were no issues with getting on and off during the transfer, I couldn't get any water and ended up having to buy expensive water on-site. Diamond Head was wonderful.

運転手さんが英語なので、やはり言葉が通じない。送迎の乗り降りは、通じなくても、問題はなかったが、水がもらえず、現地で高い水を買うことになった。

I experienced this with my mother, who is almost 60 years old! It was great to have the experience of flying in the sky. We were also able to see Diamond Head! The guide was funny, and we had a lot of fun, haha.

We chose the 1,000 feet option, but I wasn't scared at all due to the height. I was surprised by the swaying of the boat that led the parasailing.

We took an Uber taxi to the meeting place, which cost about $10. Since our session started at 8:00, we made sure to arrive by 7:30.

1000フィートにしましたが、高さによる怖さは全然なかったです。パラセーリングを率いる船の揺れが伝わるので、そこはびっくりしました。

集合場所まではUberタクシーを利用して約10ドルで行きました。
8:00からの回だったので、7:30に間に合うように行きました。

The transportation included the entrance fee. The area was rich in nature with clean air, and above all, the weather was nice, providing a wonderful view. The ascent was a bit tough, but there were rest areas along the way, which was great! The descent was so pleasant that I was told I had a refreshing look on my face! Haha. I want to go again.

入場料込みの送迎でした。現地では自然豊かで空気が綺麗で、何より天気良くて素敵な景色でした。上りは少しきつかったですが、途中休憩スペースもあり良かったです！
下りは清々しい顔してると言われるほど気持ちよく降りられました！笑

I was worried about seasickness, but it ended safely. I had some anxiety since it was my first experience, but it was the best experience. My wife was filming videos on her smartphone, but I didn't have the luxury to do that.

I recommend this for those who can purely enjoy a Segway. It's not about sightseeing in particular. You stroll along the beachside park, feeling the pleasant breeze. It's a relaxed way to participate on your first day of sightseeing after arriving from Japan, especially if you're still getting used to things.

セグウェイを純粋に楽しめる方におすすめです。どこを観光するというわけではありません。ビーチ沿いの公園を心地よい風に吹かれながら散策します。
日本から到着してまだ慣れない初日最初の観光として気楽〜に参加出来ます。

The magician is Japanese, so his English is easy to understand, and he occasionally incorporates Japanese into his performance. He is considerate of small children as well. Not only is his storytelling skill impressive, but the quality of the magic is also outstanding. I can confidently say it was the most entertaining experience I've had through Veltra.

Since it's a small room with only 27 audience members, the level of enjoyment may vary depending on the crowd. During my visit, the audience members really added to the experience and brought out the best in the performance!

日本人マジシャンなので英語も聞き取りやすく、時折日本語を交えての進行もしてくれます。小さいお子さんにも配慮が行き届いています。話術のみならずマジックのクオリティの高さも素晴らしい。ベルトラの体験のなかでは一番面白かったと言っていいレベルです。
小さな部屋で、観客も27名と限られているため、参加した客層でもかなり面白さが変わるかもしれません。私の時はお客さん達もとてもいい味を出して（引き出されて）ました！

For my first trip to Hawaii, I didn't have a good sense of the area, and since it was a night show, I looked for something close to the hotel and booked this show.

I recommend it for those who want to see and enjoy Polynesian dance and hula dance (though I'm not quite sure of the difference). The performance features dancers and singers alternating while changing costumes.

The impersonators of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, who are well-known in America, performed their classic hits with impressive portrayals.

The venue was located inside a shopping center, so I was able to stroll through the center on my way back, and I felt safe enough that I didn't have to worry about security.

初ハワイ旅行で土地勘がないこと、ナイトショーなので、帰路を考慮してホテルから近い場所で探してこちらのショーを予約しました。

ポリネシアンダンス、フラダンス(違いがよく分かってませんが)をとりあえず見てみたい、楽しみたい方におすすめです。
ダンスとシンガーが交代で衣装を変えつつ演目を進める形です。
アメリカでは知らない人はいないエルビスプレスリーとマイケルジャクソンのモノマネさんが往年のヒット曲を披露、特徴を捉えた演出でした。

会場はショッピングセンターの中でしたので、帰りはショッピングセンター内を散策しながら帰ることができましたし、治安は心配するほどではなかったのでよかったです。

This is a plan that provides round-trip transportation from hotels in the Honolulu area to the trailhead at Diamond Head Park. I don't usually exercise, but I found that one hour each way, or two hours round trip, is more than enough. You can also enjoy views of the streets of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, so I highly recommend experiencing it at least once. Our guide, Orlando, was kind and attentive, making the experience very enjoyable.

ホノルル界隈のホテルからダイアモンドヘッド公園にある登山口までを往復で送迎してくれるプランです。
日頃運動をしない私ですが、片道で1時間あれ、往復で2時間あれば充分です。
ホノルルの街並みやパールハーバーなども見渡せるので、一度は経験させることをお薦めします。
ガイドのオランドさんも優しく気配りのできた方で、非常に楽しかったです。

The food was average, or rather, it was just ordinary and sufficient. However, the show was incredibly powerful, and the dancing and singing were at a pro level, which moved me deeply. I definitely want you to see it.

食事は普通というか、ありきたりで満たせればいいかなぐらいですがショーは大迫力で踊りと歌唱力はブロレベルで感動しました。

I was worried about whether my 11-year-old child could ride a Segway, and I even had a dream the night before about falling. However, when they tried it, I was surprised to see that they were the best in the family! If they can ride a bike, they should be fine! The anxiety is only at first; adults get used to it quickly. I think it's definitely worth a try!

１１才の子供がセグウェイに乗れるか不安なせいか前日に転ぶ夢を見てしまいましたが、乗ってみると家族で一番上手くてビックリしました。自転車に乗れるようなら大丈夫そうです！
不安は最初だけ、すぐ大人でも慣れます。
やってみる価値はあると思いますよ！

Kilauea was hard to see due to the rain, but I was satisfied with everything else. The video of the eruption that I got from the guide was really great. I was especially happy to see the stars at night.

My high school daughter participated in a group lesson by herself. She was assigned to a group of three with one instructor who kindly taught even beginners, and she was able to ride some big waves! She came back very satisfied. She also saw a sea turtle. It was her first trip to Hawaii, and it was a very valuable experience. Thank you very much.

I was able to experience both the sea and the mountains in a compact way. The two guides were kind, and I was able to ask various questions since they were Japanese. It was meaningful to enjoy so much in just the morning.

I tried parasailing at 150 meters. Unfortunately, the weather was bad, but it was fun. I was also able to purchase photos taken while I was flying.

We were blessed with beautiful weather, and while paragliding, we had an amazing view of Waikiki and Diamond Head right beneath us. The operator was a veteran who skillfully maneuvered the motorboat by reading the wind, allowing us to dip our feet into the ocean and enjoy the experience. A couple in their 70s.

Last time it was 120 meters, but this time we did it at 150 meters. A difference of 30 meters is quite significant. Next time, we'll also go for 150 meters. Fortunately, on the way out to sea, we were able to do some whale watching.

前回は高さ120ｍでしたが今回は150ｍでやりました。30m違いは結構あります。次回も150mにします。ラッキーのことに沖合に出る途中ホエールウォッチング出来ました。

This is a great option for anyone looking for a convenient way to explore Manoa Falls without the hassle of driving.

It was early in the morning and the outside was completely dark, so I felt quite anxious about interacting with the locals. However, once it was over, it turned out to be a very smooth tour. The driver was really friendly and cheerful, and he provided appropriate advice while mixing in some jokes, which was a great help. When we reached the summit, it started to rain heavily, and we ended up soaking wet on the way down. However, the view from the top was amazing, and that moment when I could see the entire cityscape of Waikiki was truly moving.

朝早い時間で外は真っ暗で、現地の方とのやりとりということでかなり不安はありましたが、終わってみれば非常にスムーズなツアーでした。ドライバーの方は本当に気さくで明るい方で、冗談も交えながら適切なアドバイスもしてくださって大変助かりました。私達が頂上に到達した時に丁度かなりの雨が降ってきてしまい、帰り道はびしょ濡れになりながらの下山でした。ですが、頂上から見た景色は素晴らしく、ワイキキの街並みを一望できたあの瞬間は感動しました。

I really had a great time and felt wonderful; I wanted to keep flying forever! My rebellious son was also very satisfied. The staff were nice, which made it easy to enjoy myself.
