They came to pick me up earlier than scheduled. After signing some documents, we moved to a few other pickup locations and then headed to Diamond Head. Once everyone gathered, the guide started. I only understood about half of what was said, but it seemed like most of it was jokes. Everyone except me seemed to be native English speakers. However, it was no problem at all if you couldn't speak. The entrance fee and reservation for Diamond Head were handled by Veltra, so you can get in without doing anything. I was dropped off at the entrance of Diamond Head around 8:40, received a bottle of water, and was told to be back by 10:30.

The hike to Diamond Head takes about 30 to 40 minutes one way. There are many bumpy areas and stairs, so I recommend wearing sneakers. It can be quite windy and relatively cold at the top, so having a light jacket might be a good idea.

After coming down, I relaxed on a bench and looked at souvenirs. I was a bit anxious when the return pickup didn't arrive on time, but I thought, "This is America, so it’s probably normal." You also receive water on the way back, which you can decline if you don't want it. The drop-off location can be either the pickup spot or your hotel if it's nearby.

I gave a $10 bill as a tip, which seemed to be the average amount based on what I saw from other participants. I joined as a solo male traveler, but I wasn't singled out or anything; it was a straightforward and nice tour. If you can understand some English, this option is cheaper than a Japanese guide with tips included, so I think it's sufficient. For those who can use Lealea, it's easy to go that way. 男1人で参加でしたが、特にいじられることもなく、さっぱりしていて、いいツアーだと思いました。
多少英語が聞き取れれば、日本語ガイドチップ入りよりも安いので、こちらで十分だと思います。
レアレア利用できる人はそれで行くのが楽です。ザ・バスで行くと、トンネルの前で降りるので割と歩きますが、安いです。

Tommy picked us up early at a neighboring hotel/resort. As soon as we arrived, he mentioned me and my son by name and I signed a sheet stating we were present. He was kind, patient, relaxed and informative about the area offering great suggestions on different locations. This experience included our entrance fee to Diamond Head State Monument, transportation to and from the hotel. Our hike was moderate and offered beautiful scenery and awesome photo opportunities. The only area I felt somewhat claustrophobic was going into the tunnel on the way up. Tommy provided cold as well as room temperature water and the ride back was comfortable and convenient as we were dropped off right in front of our resort. Thank you for a great experience! Mahalo!

This is a tour where you dive about 100 feet deep to observe fish and other marine life. You board a boat from the port of Waikiki and then switch to a submarine for the dive.

At first, there isn’t much to see and there are few fish, but as you get closer to a sunken airplane or ship, you encounter large schools of fish! After viewing one side, the submarine turns around to show the guests on the opposite side as well. Along the way, we also saw sharks and sea turtles swimming.

The guide's explanations are in English. I should have downloaded the Japanese guide in advance, but I forgot. However, the English explanations provide real-time descriptions of the situation, so I’m not sure if the Japanese explanations follow that. I think it’s better to try to listen to the English.

Before boarding the boat, they take photos which they develop and sell by the return trip. You can also download the data via QR code later, but that is also paid. I was a bit anxious since it was an English-speaking driver. It seemed like the meeting point was different, and even after 10 minutes, the driver hadn't arrived. When I tried to contact them, the line was busy. Just when I was starting to think they might not come, the driver called my name loudly, and I was able to get on safely. During the ride, I couldn't understand the announcements at all, and since we were the only Japanese people, I felt a bit isolated, haha. We also received two bottles of mineral water for the round trip! Since it was just a plan to climb, I didn't feel rushed and was able to fully enjoy the scenery and nature. However, I later found out that taking the bus would have been significantly cheaper, which was a good lesson learned.

I was looking for activities to do in Hawaii with my 3-year-old, and I thought this would be a good option, so I made a reservation.

First, we took a larger boat to the diving point. During the ride, they pointed out things like, "Look, they're doing whale watching over there!" which made the journey enjoyable! We were also lucky to catch a glimpse of a sea turtle. My child had a great time.

Once we were in the submarine, we spent about 45 minutes underwater. While the adults enjoyed it, my active 3-year-old got a bit bored halfway through, and we ended up showing him a video for the last 10 minutes... (laughs)

However, for the first 15 minutes, he was excitedly saying things like, "The fish are waving at me!" I think it was a memorable experience for him since he even reenacted it during bath time when we got home!

Our family is an international marriage family living abroad, so English wasn't an issue for us. The guide was cheerful and shared jokes and interesting facts, which made it enjoyable, but those who are not confident in English might feel a bit left out. I heard that Japanese audio can be downloaded, but it might not always match what the guide is saying.

Overall, I think it was an activity that families with children can enjoy!

潜水艦に潜ってからは45分ほど。大人は楽しめるのですが、うちの3歳動きたい坊やは途中でちょっと飽きてしまって、残り10半のところでビデオを見せることになってしまいました、、笑

でも初めの15分は「お魚さんが手振ってるー」とか言って楽しんでいる様子でした。
家に帰ってからもそれをお風呂で再現したりしているので、きっと心に残った経験だったんだろうなと思っています！

我が家は国際結婚ファミリーで、海外在住なので英語は問題なかったのですが、ガイドが陽気な方で、ジョークをとばしたりうんちくを言ってくれるので、楽しめましたが英語が苦手な方は置いてけぼり感があるかもしれません。日本語オーディオがダウンロードできるとのことでしたが、ガイドが話していることとは必ずしも一致しないと思います。

総じて、子連れで楽しめるアクティビティだったと思います！

Our driver was wonderful and funny. I appreciate that he called us to tell us he had arrived at the pick-up spot. We didn’t see the van pull up and he was parked behind us. The hike is demanding especially in the rain. It was quite slippery on the way down. We had already purchased ponchos, but our driver had some for sale. We were able to complete the hike easily within the timeframe, and had time to stop in the gift shop. Just be aware of the weather and plan accordingly. Good shoes are a must!
