The town on the North Shore felt quite run-down, and others around me also said there wasn't anything particularly impressive. I would have preferred to visit the site of the Pearl Harbor attack, or I had heard from friends that the train at Dole was really nice, so I wished I had more time to ride the train there. After that, we went to the final show which was really the best part of the night!! They put on a beautiful show and highly recommend this to everyone!! This is a must do when coming to Hawaii!!!
It was fun seeing the different Polynesian cultures, but it was a bit too long of a day. We checked in at noon and didn't leave the grounds until 10:30 at night. You walk around the stores and different villages that are set up, then you have your luau, which is a buffet. That was nice. When you are done with that, you have 2 - 21/2 hours to kill before the show "HA- breath of life" (which was very good). It would have been OK, but the villages closed up, so you had nothing to do before the show. We had an OK time.
The journey takes about an hour and a half by bus to the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat dinner followed by a show. The dinner I had was on the cheaper side, so the variety was limited and it was just average. The drinks, aside from water, were too sweet.
For the more expensive option, I saw chefs in proper attire cooking from outside the entrance. The fire dance at the end of the show was amazing, while the other various dances were just okay. If you want to experience Hawaiian traditions, I think it's worth considering.
