The North Shore is truly a wonderful place, and it was an amazing experience to ride along the coast in the pleasant breeze. It was my son and son-in-law's first time riding, but the horses were smart, and they enjoyed it without any problems. Along the way, we took photos, and my son attached a GoPro to his arm to film while riding without any issues. We also had some commemorative photos taken, and even though it was in English, we received various explanations, making it the best memory of our trip to Hawaii.

I previously had a horseback riding experience at Kualoa Ranch, but the movie tour aside, the horseback riding felt very much like a "tourist attraction"—it was crowded, and we all went in a line together.

At Gunstock Ranch, my 2-year-and-10-month-old daughter could ride a pony, while my husband and I chose to ride horses. A staff member walked with my daughter's pony, and we followed behind on our own horses. There aren't many places that allow small children to ride alone, so it was a valuable experience! We chose a 20-minute ride, which was more than enough time for little ones! The grounds are incredibly spacious, allowing us to feel the great outdoors, and afterward, they let my daughter brush the pony and give it treats, which was really friendly of them. I definitely want to go back next time!

*However, there were no staff members who spoke Japanese. I don't think it would be too much of a problem, though.

Uchida drove us around Haleiwa Town beforehand and recommended various places, so we were fine without a guidebook. He helped us get to our desired restaurant smoothly, and I appreciated his thoughtfulness. We went to a fast-food restaurant, but it took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive, so time management is important since it doesn’t come out as quickly as in Japan. After that, we went horseback riding. We took a walk on horseback through a small hill covered with trees, similar to hiking. Riding on a natural mountain that hasn’t been maintained felt great. The horses are retired polo ponies, so they are well-trained and manageable even for beginners. It was a very enjoyable day. Thank you to the owner, Mark, and Uchida. I would like to ride here again.

【For Participants】
1. Touching turtles is prohibited by law. There was a person monitoring the beach. If you get closer than 2 meters to a turtle, you will be warned. I was glad that Uchida informed us about this in advance.
2. A group photo will be taken. When we reached a photo spot during the horseback ride, the owner took a photo of each group. Since it will be taken with your own camera, bringing a camera is essential.
3. A Japanese guide is necessary. The owner will teach you how to ride in English and simple Japanese, so you can understand the atmosphere, but if you ask questions in Japanese, I think the answers will be in English, so a guide is needed. Uchida provided detailed instructions in Japanese. There are also signs in Japanese explaining how to ride horses. When the owner gave instructions in English while we were riding, Uchida’s interpretation was very helpful when I didn’t understand. It’s not good to get injured due to a lack of knowledge from the rider, so I believe a Japanese guide is necessary for safe horseback riding, not just for this tour. (In past reviews, it was mentioned that a horse bit the one in front and was kicked by it, but the owner and Uchida warned us to keep a distance of at least 2 meters from the horse in front, so I think it was a mistake that wouldn’t happen if the rider was careful.) Additionally, we had to sign a waiver stating that injuries during horseback riding are our own responsibility. I think this is the same for any horseback riding tour. 4. Long pants are required. Horses only know their own body shape, so they may walk very close to trees, and a person’s knees might hit the trees. ④長ズボンは必須
馬は馬自身の体型しか把握していないので、馬が通れるギリギリで木の横を歩くことがあり、人間の膝が木にぶつかりそうになりました。慣れてくれば馬に指示して事前に木をかわすことができますが、ケガのリスクを減らすためにもジーンズ等厚手の長ズボンをお勧めします。馬の背中は思っている以上に高いです。
⑤自撮り棒禁止
馬は棒を怖がるそうで馬の上では自撮り棒は使わないように言われました。すごく揺れるので写真を撮るのは難しいと思います。片手で手綱を握り、片手で撮影できるなら動画なら撮ることもできます。

①貴重品の保管場所を作ってほしい

Along the way, we had some time, so we stopped by a coffee farm, enjoyed complimentary coffee, and listened to stories about the mountains where Zero fighters flew during the Pearl Harbor attack, reflecting on the happiness after the war while gazing at the blue Hawaiian sky. After that, we enjoyed ice cream at the pineapple plantation and finally arrived at Haleiwa's Old Town on the North Shore. We soaked in the local atmosphere of Hawaii that we had always dreamed of. Kazu shared information about local food and the history of the shops, and we savored Hawaiian dishes of tuna and shrimp, leaving us satisfied.

This is where Kazu truly shined as our local guide! He informed us that a world championship was taking place at the North Shore, where surfers from around the world gather. We asked Kazu if he could drop us off at the competition venue, and off we went to the world championship site! It was exhilarating to see the North Shore's Pipeline, which we had only seen on TV, with our own eyes! Our close-knit group of five had a precious experience! I highly recommend everyone to join Kazu's tour at North Shore through VELTRA. A wonderful experience awaits you! ^^;

I was looking forward to this tour.
The horseback riding itself was enjoyable, but the tour guide, Kaz, was very businesslike. He only said what he needed to say (just explanations) and ignored us or responded coldly when we tried to say something. Even when I just wanted to confirm something as a first-time participant, he would say things like, "I just said that, didn't I?" with a laugh, and "That's why I'm asking."
When my child spoke a little loudly, he covered his ears, sighed, and told us to be quiet, saying that if we didn't keep it down, it would irritate the tour guide again. I ended up scolding my child out of frustration.

子どもがちょっと大きな声で話したら、耳を押さえられて、ため息ついて、静かにしてください、といわれ、静かにさせないとまたツアコンの方をいらつかせるなあと、私も子どもに叱りイライラ。
彼が子どもが嫌いなのはわかりましたが、道中どっと疲れました。
また子どもがウミガメを楽しみにしてることを伝えても、
寄りますけど、冬場はほとんどいないですよ
と、あっさり。15分で戻ってきて。と、草むらを突っ切って行けと言われて、雨上がりの草むらを歩いて靴はビシャビシャ。
乗馬後も、すぐに帰りますから！とだけ言われ、感想を聞くわけでもなく、時間がおしてる。
などと言ってきて、ツアコンの方の顔色伺がって、どっと疲れて帰ってきました。
10万円近いツアー代金を払っていたので本当に残念でした。こちらの会社は2度ど利用しないと思います。

I started with the canyon plan, but I was suddenly informed that horseback riding was canceled due to the muddy ground from the rain the day before and the rain on the day itself, which made it even more dangerous. However, I was quickly switched to a seaside horseback riding experience where the weather was nice, and I had an incredibly fun time.

Hiro, who was different from the initial staff, was amazing until the very end. Before we went horseback riding, the staff explained the precautions in English and detailed the process of getting on the horse, which was very easy to understand. As a first-timer, I felt reassured and was able to ride without any trouble. The horse was calm and well-behaved.

After riding, I learned about tipping, which is not common in Japan. I was told that if I enjoyed the experience, I should hand over a certain amount of dollars at the end, so I was able to do that smoothly.

During lunch, I made a phone reservation to ensure we could eat as soon as the restaurant opened, and by the time we arrived, our orders were ready. Hiro also provided us with unique experiences that we wouldn't find elsewhere until just before we parted ways.

I know I've written a lot, but I truly believe that the quality of the tour was largely due to the role of the tour coordinator. Although I suddenly switched from the more expensive canyon horseback riding plan to the more affordable seaside option, thanks to Hiro, I had a really enjoyable day. Of course, the difference in price for the plans was refunded the next day.

乗馬に行く前には、乗馬のスタッフは英語で注意事項を喋るからと、こんなことの説明があるとかの馬に乗るまでの流れ等々を詳細に話してくれました。非常に分かりやすく、初体験の私も安心して苦労することなく乗馬できました。
馬も大人しく、行儀も良かったですよ。
乗馬後は、日本には無いチップについて、こういう訳で、楽しかったと思たら◯ドルを最後に手渡してあげてくださいと馬場に向かう車内て教えてもらっていたので、すんなり手渡すこともできました。
昼食時には、開店と同時に食べられるように、注文を各人に聞いて店に電話予約、店に着いた頃には、本当に注文した食事ができている状態でした。他にもヒロさんには、他では味わえないことを解散直前までやってもらいました。
長々書き込んでいますが、ツアーの内容が良かったと感じるのは、やはり同行するツアーコーディネーターの役割が100%ですね
値段の高い渓谷乗馬プランから、安めの海辺乗馬に突然なりましたが、ヒロさんのおかげで、本当に楽しい一日を過ごせました。
当然、プランの値段に対する差額は、翌日に戻ってきました。

It was a private experience just for us! This was my second time riding, but this one was the best! The sunset viewed from the sandy beach is an unforgettable memory! I recommend going by car, though. It was a tough rural town without transportation, haha. We used Uber! The driver was a nice person and waited for us until we were done. It's better to go with plenty of time to spare. By the way, it's almost completely dark at night since there are hardly any streetlights.

While riding through the trees, my horse occasionally tried to veer off to eat grass, but I could keep it on track with the reins. I had an absolutely amazing time! (laughs)

I was quite nervous at first, but thanks to the kind staff, I was able to ride without any issues after just a 5-minute briefing. There were ups and downs, and suddenly we passed through a tunnel in the forest that felt like something out of My Neighbor Totoro, riding on horseback. We climbed rocky areas while keeping an eye on free-range cows—it was quite an adventure! Surprisingly, my backside didn't hurt much at all. I kept saying how fun and interesting it was, and even though the experience was supposed to last an hour, they let us ride for about an hour and a half!

They only spoke English, but they talked slowly and clearly, which actually made it feel more authentic. There were just the two of us and another group, so it felt like a private experience! It had more of a Western vibe than a Hawaiian one, though... (laughs)

Above all, the horses were great, and the danger level was zero (☆∀☆). My wife, who doesn't like animals, was able to pet them normally and felt comfortable! If you sign a waiver for accidents beforehand, you can ride without a helmet (laughs). This explanation was a bit complicated, though...

It was truly a wonderful experience that made me feel like I had the great outdoors all to myself and made me love horses even more!

「乗馬場では鍵のかかるロッカー（無料）がございます」との説明文がホームページやバウチャーに記載されていたので、カメラなど貴重品をロッカー預けようと思っていましたが、実際にはロッカーは無く、ガイドに自分で貴重品を持つように言われて焦りました。
ウエストポーチなど、貴重品を入れられる小さめのバッグを持って行くことをお勧めします。
