Oahu
This was my dads first dive in Hawaii while visiting and we could not have had a better morning diving with Divemaster Red! The first spot we dove for our deep dive was the Sea Tiger ship wreck which sits in about 115' of water yet is only about a half mile out. The wreck was full of life. We saw a big sea turtle, eels, a white tip reef shark and many different fish species including a frog fish. Our divemaster Red is insanely good at finding all kinds of difficult to spot marine life. There was also a few spots on the wreck that are opened up and safe to swim through if you are comfortable. The second spot we dove was the old Kewalo drain pipe. The visibility at this spot was absolutely perfect. There were so many different fish swimming around the reef. Red did not disappoint on this dive either! He found a tako (octopus) that we were able to take pictures of. He also found a few other rare, very difficult to find reef fish that I had never seen before! We couldn't have possibly enjoyed our time underwater more! The captain of the boat was hilarious keeping everyone entertained while top side. Due to the proximity of these awesome dive sites to the boat harbor it seemed like the longest amount of time spent on the boat was for our surface interval, which would be nice for those who get sea sick easily. Lucky for us, conditions were calm and perfect and we couldn't have had a better morning of diving. My best advice is to stay close to the Divemaster and pay close attention because they are looking for awesome things to show you that you would otherwise miss.
This was our second visit to the center and we enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. The guides were very friendly, knowledgeable and aware of each of our needs. The young performers were excited about their culture and were full of energy and joy as they shared their culture with us. The luau was very good and the show was excellent. A very enjoyable family activity. We would highly recommend thie Polynesian Cultural Center as s part of your Oahu experience.
After getting off at the airport, there was a staff member in an easy-to-find location. We loaded our luggage and set off. The driving was quite reckless. We started at a red light and got flipped off from the oncoming lane, and the driver reacted similarly. Even though it was a large vehicle, we made a forced U-turn in the middle of the road. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but since the shuttle is inexpensive, I might use it again.
The entertainment and activities were excellent!!
The young entertainers were very enthusiastic and had so much energy. We enjoyed this luau very much.
Aloha Scott, thanks for your review! We are so glad you had all the best at the luau, and we look forward to seeing you again. Mahalo from your Toa Luau Ohana! ^_^
I wanted to change the pickup location, and when I called the day before (with a Japanese staff member), they smoothly made the change for me, which was very helpful. I arrived at the meeting point earlier than scheduled (15 minutes early), and I felt sorry for the people already on the bus.
After picking up our luggage at the airport, we were relieved to meet with Roberts right there. We got into the car and set off to the hotel with several other groups. When we arrived at the first hotel and got out, the driver (who spoke only English) said, "Look at the luggage tag, NO," and we got back in the car to leave again. We spread out the map and looked at the scenery around us, feeling increasingly anxious. When we finally arrived at the last hotel, we were sure it was wrong, and as we tried to communicate with a few words, the driver said, "OK," and took us back to the original hotel. This incident happened because we had made a reservation mistake, but we were grateful for the kind "OK" that helped us out.
I think it was about an hour with each group lasting around 10 minutes. While waiting below, I thought 10 minutes would be short, but the time spent in the air during parasailing felt long. It was quite stable with little swaying, making it more comfortable than being on the boat. If the weather is good, the view is fantastic. I had some money with me for tips, but I was unsure how much to give.
My usual trips to Hawaii are filled with diving, but this time I decided to forgo diving and participate in horseback riding, which I was really looking forward to. I have ridden a horse 2-3 times before, and I was a bit anxious about whether I could handle two hours of riding, but I’m really glad I decided to go for it.
Next time I visit Hawaii, I want to go specifically for this two-hour horseback riding experience. The breathtaking scenery was overwhelming and truly moving.
I hesitated a bit because it seemed somewhat expensive, but it was something I couldn’t easily experience in Japan, and I think this price for two hours with transportation included is a great deal.
A friend who came with me was scared of horses and participated alone, but she was totally fine. The shuttle bus to and from the location had a lot of foreigners, and there were only about two groups of Japanese people, including myself. That made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived, I honestly thought, "Do such overweight foreigners really ride horses?" but most of them were just participating in other optional tours or were simply visiting.
Upon arrival, we checked in at the booth, stored our bags in a coin locker for $5 (with explanations in Japanese), and at the meeting time, we watched a simple horseback riding video in Japanese in a hut. Then, we rode in a group of about six people alongside about three instructors.
There were cliff-like areas and streams we crossed while riding, which was quite thrilling. Although the explanations were in English, I enjoyed it. Above all, I was overwhelmed by the vast scenery, and it really helped me relieve stress. If you keep one hand free, you can take pictures with your smartphone while riding, but I was a bit scared and wanted to take in the scenery with my eyes, so I purchased a photo of myself on the horse for $15 that was taken at the start. My backside got a little sore, but I had a truly meaningful time.
After horseback riding, I wanted to enjoy a leisurely meal, but since the last bus to Waikiki left at 3 PM, I hurriedly bought a small pound cake from the shop and jumped on the bus, which is the only regret I have (laughs). I didn’t even get to look around the souvenir shops.
Hawaii, especially Waikiki, is filled with Japanese tourists, but when I come here, I really feel like I’m in a foreign country surrounded by nature. I will definitely participate again!
At Sandbar Beach, I couldn't see the sandy beach due to the water level being up to my waist on the day of the tour, but I still had a good time. The lunch was plentiful and delicious. I was able to see some sea turtles from the boat as well. I saw a decent amount of fish while snorkeling, and overall, I was satisfied.
It started with a fun and easy-to-understand explanation from Yuki, who perfectly embodied the image of a Hawaiian sister, complete with laughter. The sandbar only appears at the perfect timing, which is difficult since it's a natural phenomenon. Unfortunately, it didn't appear during our visit. All the other staff members, besides Yuki, were friendly and kind. The lunch was also quite substantial. On the day we participated, the weather was rainy and cloudy, but it miraculously cleared up just in time for the sandbar, turtle watching, and snorkeling. As soon as we finished and returned to the port, it started to rain again, so we were really lucky. We were able to see many turtles. It was a lot of fun.
We went parasailing at my husband's request. I wasn't sure about the height, but we chose the middle option of 120 meters. It felt great to speed across the water on the boat, and it was enjoyable to watch the other passengers flying as well. Flying ourselves was truly the best experience. During the descent, we playfully dipped into the water, which also became a nice memory.
The day after arriving in Hawaii, we participated in a tour. It was my 4-year-old daughter, my 6-year-old son, my mother in her 60s, my husband, and me, a group of five. We were picked up at 5:30 AM, but thanks to the time difference, we had no trouble joining.
Our tour consisted only of Japanese participants. I wondered if only Japanese people make reservations for this tour. On the bus ride there, the guide provided fun explanations about the tour and information about Waikiki, and before we knew it, we had arrived. My son and daughter caught up on some much-needed sleep on the bus before boarding the boat.
This was my first time in Hawaii in September, and I didn't expect it to be so hot, but the temperature was just right for swimming. However, if you're feeling uncertain, it might be a good idea to rent a wetsuit. By the way, my mother and my son and daughter rented one. You must wear a life jacket, which also increases buoyancy, so I recommend it for those who are not confident swimmers.
I was disappointed not to meet the dolphin teacher this time, but I was very satisfied to see many turtles and fish. The chance of not meeting the dolphin teacher is only about 10%, so it seems rare. However, since we didn't get to meet, the tour company offered us a nice perk: half off the photo fee or a free participation in the next dolphin school.
It was a conscientious tour, and I would love to participate again.
Thank you so much to all the tour guides. I thought it was a wonderful tour because they genuinely tried to entertain everyone, including couples, older guests, and small children. Thanks to them, the kids had a fantastic time. My son, who was initially reluctant, got used to the ocean and enjoyed himself. He especially loved paddle boarding with my husband.
The weather forecast predicted rain and thunderstorms, but it turned out to be cloudy and not too hot, which was actually nice.
During the Haleiwa tour, they asked about my personal preferences and places I wanted to visit, allowing us to spend our time efficiently. If I could wish for anything, it would be an additional 15 minutes of stay time, as that would allow for a more relaxed experience.
The horseback riding by the beach was amazing! The feeling of openness when we emerged from the forest to the seaside was the best! I was healed by the sound of the waves while strolling.
Next time, I want to try horseback riding in the canyon!
I challenged myself to 150 meters. At first, I was a bit lost, but once I tried it, it was so much fun that I absolutely recommend the 150 meters and the water splash!
Everyone except us was from overseas, so I felt a bit out of place, but the guide spoke to us in broken Japanese and made sure we were okay, so I never got bored.
If you ask, they will take photos for you! There were some unique shots, and I was really glad I had them take pictures since it was such a special trip.
Manoa Falls was a different waterfall due to the impact of the hurricane (rockfall), but I was able to fully enjoy the unique flowers and plants of Hawaii. The walking distance was just right, and I could take my time while taking photos. The vegan lunch was also incredibly delicious, featuring only healthy options like vegetables and hijiki!
Thank you for your comment. The trail to the Aihualama Falls offers many plants that you won't see at Manoa Falls, making it a very lovely course as well. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We also tried parasailing for the first time. We challenged ourselves to the highest level at 150 meters, and my wife, who has a fear of heights, really enjoyed it. I think being higher allows for a longer time in the air, making it even more enjoyable. It became the best memory for us.
This time, I traveled alone, so I used this shuttle. When I was looking around at the group exit, someone called out to me, and I was able to find it right away. Also, the waiting time until getting on the shuttle was about five minutes, and I was able to get to the hotel very smoothly.
If you want to get out of Waikiki for a quick outing then this Tradewind Sail with Mana Kai Catamaran is perfect! Departing from the middle of Waikiki, it's a beach boarding and all you need is a pair of sunglasses and water. The captain and crew took us towards out the blue ocean and there you are just sitting looking at the iconic Diamond Head.
It's was great to just relax and bake under the sun for one hour!
Such a great time doing the 2hour ATV tour. Our guide Bill was amazing and full of knowledge.
Would definitely recommend the 2 hour tour, I feel one hour wouldn’t be enough time to see the amazing sights of the ranch.
Would do this tour again in a heartbeat.
I had been thinking for a long time that I wanted to experience it at least once, and I finally got to enjoy it. At first, I was nervous, but thanks to the cheerful foreigners in my group and the lively staff, I was able to truly have fun. I'm really glad I did it.
During my trip to Hawaii, I participated in horseback riding along the beach at Hawaii Polo Club's North Shore. This was my second time riding since my experience at Kualoa Ranch, but the location was different, and it felt wonderful to ride along the coastal course while enjoying the gentle sea breeze. We got caught in the rain for a bit, but thanks to that, we were lucky enough to see a rainbow. The horses were well-trained, so there’s no need to worry even if you're a beginner. I highly recommend everyone to join and experience this wonderful feeling!
The sea was rough from the morning... and there was a possibility of being sent back right after departure.
The waves were indeed a bit high, but we started looking for dolphins right away and spotted one ( •̀ᴗ•́ )/
On the way, we encountered a sea turtle!!
It was actually a couple of sea turtles having their time (laughs).
Then we went for the second round of dolphin searching...
And we found them again!!
Moreover, they were in a group, which was an amazing sight ( •̀ᴗ•́ )/
I really felt incredibly lucky, and it was so moving ( •̀ᴗ•́ )/
If you go to Hawaii, you definitely have to participate!!
Honestly, I thought I was being tricked when I joined, but... it was amazing (laughs).
I requested a transfer from Hilo Airport to the hotel, but there was no guidance upon arrival at the airport, and I felt lost and anxious asking various people for help. In the end, a driver from Roberts Hawaii called to inquire and successfully took me to the hotel.
After arriving, when I went to the lobby, they only spoke English, and when I showed my voucher, they asked me where I was going. Since I had a reservation, they should have been able to find out the hotel location. When I was ready and headed to the bus, I was the only one, yet I was made to wait on the bus without any explanation. The two drivers and one guide started chatting for a while, and it was unclear when we would depart. I was left waiting for about 10 minutes before we finally set off. I still don't understand what that time was for.
The staff doesn't speak any Japanese at all, but you can understand where the life jackets are and how to wear them through body language and nuances. The only other Japanese guests were a family with us, and everyone else was probably American, so we couldn't understand the English jokes and conversations, but since we came to Hawaii, we shouldn't expect Japanese. The waves were very calm, and it was clear until it started to get cloudy on our way back, which felt really nice. The experience of seeing the cityscape of Honolulu and the differently oriented Diamond Head from the sea is quite rare, making it a very valuable and refreshing experience. We were also lucky enough to have dolphins swimming alongside us. You can buy alcohol and soft drinks on board. There was a commemorative photo taken before departure, and you pay $15 when you return.
Had a great time riding round the ranch. Great mix of the ATV experience, sightseeing of movie sites and spectacular scenery. Guide was great though more time for photo stops would have been great. Fabulous photo opportunity and Jurassic experience at the end.
The bunker was interesting and it's amazing how many films were made here. The lunch after was tasty and a perfect end to the activity.
I took a different surfing lesson in Hawaii five years ago, but I couldn't stand up at all, so this was my second challenge. Surprisingly, I was able to stand and ride the waves! The instructor must be really good. Surfing is definitely fun when you can catch the waves! I highly recommend it!
I was waiting for a pickup at the hotel, but they were 10 to 20 minutes late. When I called, they said they were picking up at another hotel and would come back after that. I thought, "Well, that's fine," and continued to wait, but they ended up arriving 30 minutes late. When I got in the car, they were heading to the other hotel they mentioned on the phone.
In the end, I made it to the airport on time, but if you expect too much accuracy, it can take away from the enjoyment, so it's better to be prepared for that. Make sure to allow at least three hours before your departure.
- Although it's called Sandbar, due to the tides, it wasn't a sandy beach but just a shallow area. The height was about thigh-deep.
- During snorkeling, I didn't see a single fish in the 20 minutes.
- There were a lot of people, and it was quite crowded.
- However, the sea turtle watching was great, and I could see them well.
- The staff members were very friendly and fun.

I arrived at Dole 5 minutes before opening, entered through the back door, and was the first to get the Dole ice cup with toppings for $6.50, which I had previously given up on due to the long line!
In Haleiwa, I enjoyed the garlic shrimp at Camaron, which was recommended by our guide, and the rainbow shave ice from Matsumoto Shave Ice. We waited just long enough for those who were late to make it to the next horseback riding session, and I was thrilled when we found the two of them while slowly driving back. I really appreciate the consideration shown by our guide, Kaz.
During the drive, Kaz listened to everyone's requests and kept the atmosphere lively with stories and quizzes, so we had a fun time without getting bored.
My first horseback riding experience was much more enjoyable than I had imagined. The view from the horse was fantastic, and the scenery at Turtle Bay was beautiful. In the forest, there were moments when the hungry horse decided it was mealtime or strayed off the path, but as Kaz explained, the horse listened well to the gentle guidance, making it very cute. Horseback riding was amazing!!! I plan to include horseback riding at the top of my itinerary for my next trip to Hawaii.
On the way back, we made an unexpected stop at a macadamia nut farm (with free coffee and nut cracking), and I was able to take great photos of the murals in the Kaka'ako area from the car window.
It was also possible to get off at our desired locations, and after arriving at the hotel, I got off at Ala Moana and enjoyed shopping at my leisure.
Thank you very much, Kaz, for all your help. I truly appreciate it! (o^―^o)
