Until now, I always made sure to include scuba diving wherever I went, but this time I experienced horseback riding in the canyon with my wife. We went from Honolulu to the North Shore with a tour company guide, who was very knowledgeable. They provided detailed explanations of the famous landmarks we saw along the way, making the journey to our destination enjoyable.

Previously, I had only passed by Hawaii's sacred sites, the school where President Obama attended, the hospital where he was born, and other essential facts that one must know to have a conversation. (I wonder if we just got lucky with the guide and tour company?)

As mentioned in the tour description, after the pickup, we stopped at places like Moanalua Gardens, Dole Plantation, Turtle Beach, and explored Haleiwa Town. I thought we might not have enough time, but once I tried horseback riding, it felt like it was worth it.

When we arrived at Happy Trails (the horseback riding ranch?), the owner, who seemed to be in charge, explained how to ride and control the horse with plenty of humor and gestures. (The explanation was all in English, so it might be difficult for those without language skills.) However, the tour guide explained the basic operating methods in Japanese before we arrived, so there was no need to worry at all. Additionally, the guide was there to assist with the owner's explanations, so I felt reassured.

The horses were well-trained, and the owner selected the horses based on compatibility with the riders. (I wonder if that's true?) After we set off, we rode through the woods and up and down the canyon, experiencing just the right amount of stress and thrill.

　今まで、どこに行くのでも必ずスキューバダイビングは外せなかったのですが、今回渓谷乗馬を妻とともに体験しました。
　ホノルルからノースショアーへ、ツアー会社のガイドの元行ったのですが、ガイドの人が博学で、途中車窓からの眺められた名所旧跡などの説明を細かく案内してくれ、飽きずに目的地まで着くことができました。
　今までは、単に通り過ぎていたハワイの聖地や、現オバマ大統領の出身校、生まれた病院、アメリカ大統領になるための必須条件ｅｔｃ、まさに知識を取り入れておかなくては話せないような事柄を案内してくれたのです。（ガイド・ツアー会社に当たったのですかね？）
　このツアーは案内説明にもあるようにピックアップ後、モアナルガーデン、ドールプランテーション、海がめビーチ、ハレイワ・タウン散策など途中で立ち寄ります。参加して、ちょっと時間が足らないかなと思いがちでしたが、乗馬体験をしてみるとしょうがないような気がしました。
　ハッピートレイズ（乗馬体験場所の牧場？）に着くとオーナーと思われる人が乗馬のやり方、操り方法をユーモアたっぷりジェスチャーをまじえて説明してくれます。（説明は全て英語です、語学力のない方は無理かな？）・・・・・・・なんて言いません。
　現地に着くまでにツアーガイドの人が日本語で最低限度の操作方法を説明してくれますので、まったく心配ありません
　さらにオーナーの説明に対してもガイドの方がかたわらで説明してくれるので心配ありませんでした。
　馬については調教された馬で、オーナーが乗る人の相性を確かめながら馬を選んでくれているとの事でした。（ほんとかね？）
　出発した後、馬とともに林の中や渓谷を上ったり降りたり適度なストレスとスリルを味わいながら乗馬したのです。

　妻は今度は孫（小４）も連れて来てこの乗馬体験をさせるのだと張りきっています。

I participated this time because I wanted to experience horseback riding.

For beginners, there might be some anxieties like, "Will I be able to ride by myself?" or "What if I can't ride well and disturb others?!"

However, the horses used for this activity are well-trained for polo, and even someone like me, who is a beginner and not very confident in my athletic abilities, was able to enjoy it immensely.

All the necessary precautions regarding horseback riding are explained clearly in Japanese by the guide, so even those who are anxious about their English can participate with peace of mind.

Additionally, during the ride, the ranch staff provide fun support in very simple English, making the hour feel very short and giving a great sense of security.

The great thing about the mountain course is that you can enjoy the ups and downs of a course that you wouldn't typically find in Japan while feeling a pleasant breeze. Also, the view of the North Shore from the top of the mountain was fantastic.

Beyond the horseback riding experience, I think the guiding skills of this activity are worth experiencing. They make sure you enjoy everything on the way to and from the ranch, including Dole Plantation, turtle watching at Turtle Beach, and lunch at a non-frozen shrimp stand. Moreover, they can drop you off at your desired shopping area (DFS, Ala Moana) on the way back, allowing you to make the most of your day.

I participated alone this time and had some anxieties, but the guide provided excellent follow-up, so I was able to enjoy it very much.

今回は乗馬の体験をしたくて参加しました。

乗馬初心者の方は、
”自分一人で乗れるだろうか？”
”上手く乗れなくて他の方に迷惑をかけてしまうのではないか？！”
などの不安を多少なりともお持ちかと思います。

しかし、このアクティビティで使用される馬はポロ用にしっかり調教されており、初心者でかつあまり運動神経に自信がない私でも非常に楽しむことが出来ました。

乗馬に関する各注意事項は、ガイドの方がしっかり日本語で説明してくださるので、英語に不安を覚える方でも安心して参加することが出来ます。

また、乗馬中は牧場の方が非常に簡単な英語で楽しくフォローしてくれるので一時間がとても短く感じますし、安心感も非常にありました。

山コースの良いところは、日本では考えられないアップダウンがあるコースを気持ちがいい風を浴びながら楽しめるところです。
また、山の上からノースショアを一望できて最高でした。

乗馬体験以外にも、このアクティビティのガイド力は一度体験してみる価値はあると思います。
ドールプランテーション、亀海岸での亀ウォッチング、冷凍ではないシュリンプ屋台での昼食等、牧場までの行き帰り全てを無駄なく満喫させてくれます。
また、帰りは希望のショッピングエリア（DFS、アラモアナ）で車を下してもらうという希望にもこたえて頂けるので一日を無駄なく満喫することができます。

今回は一人参加で不安もありましたが、ガイドの方がしっかりフォローアップしてくれるので非常に楽しむことができました。

Horseback riding was amazing. I was able to ride for a long time, and instead of flat terrain, we went up and down mountains, which was a rare experience that I can't have in Japan.
At the turtle beach, I didn't see any turtles basking on the shore that day, but I discovered some turtles in the water! My excitement shot up instantly.
The shrimp I had for lunch was delicious. My sister, who was with me, said it was "the best" during her stay in Hawaii.

乗馬は最高でした。長時間乗れて、歩くのも平地ではなく山の登り降りがあり、日本では体験できない様な貴重な経験が出来ました。
海がめのビーチではこの日は甲羅干しをしているカメは見られませんでしたが、海の中にいるカメを発見！テンションが一気にあがりました。
お昼に食べた海老は美味しかった。一緒にいった妹はハワイ滞在中で『一番だった』と言ってました。

As experienced horseback riders, this was our first time riding by the seaside, and it was refreshing and a lot of fun! However, unlike in the canyon, the ride was only 45 minutes, which was a bit disappointing. If I could wish for anything, I would have liked to enjoy it a bit longer. The guide was a local Japanese person who shared a lot of detailed information about Hawaii. I think this is a recommended plan for beginners!

乗馬経験者の私たちでしたが、海辺での乗馬は初めてでしたので、新鮮で大変楽しめました♪
ただし、渓谷と違い、４５分と短い時間だったのが残念です。欲を言えば、もう少し堪能したかったです。
ガイドの方は現地の日本人の方で、ハワイについてとても詳しく話してくれました。
初心者の方にはお薦めのプランだと思いますよ♪

I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our ride. We were a group of five, Joe Shonkwiler (wife Donna), Charlie Johnson, Jeff Goorsky and myself. Sarah and Heidi were our guides. We had an awesome time!!! The ride was fantastic, the views great, the lunch delicious, the horses perfect, Sarah and Heidi outstanding! It couldn't get any better than that. The girls got a kick out of my husband since he had never ridden before as well as being allergic to horses. He did great! Just enough breeze was blowing to keep the allergies at bay and his horse was the perfect babysitter. Thank you again!

Gunstock Ranch is terrific in every way. The scenery is spectacular and the trail guides are fantastic.

Thank you for such a fantastic trail ride! Our guide, Brittany was great and it was so nice to have options for canter. Out of all the holiday riding experiences we have had, this has been the best by far. I can definitely say that if it wasn't for the 21 hour flight from the UK, we would be there every weekend!

I participated in a 2-hour horseback riding session. As I had read in previous reviews, the Japanese support here is not what you would expect in Waikiki. However, the stunning scenery and the refreshing experience of horseback riding without the mandatory helmets that you are often forced to wear in Japan is remarkable. The staff made a great effort to communicate, and I learned about the kukui nut tree, which is used for making leis, as we progressed through the ranch. Naturally, we encountered groups of cows along the way, which was fun. By the end of the 2 hours, my backside was in so much pain (I suffered from the pain for several days). Next time, when I go with friends, I plan to join the 2-hour course again.

ここでの書き込みでも見ていたように、ワイキキで期待できるような日本語対応ではありませんでした。
が。景色の素晴らしさや、日本で体験できる乗馬ではほぼ強制的に着用させられるヘルメット等がない乗馬の爽快感は特筆です。
スタッフさんもコミュニケーションをとろうと努力してくれているのがとてもよくわかり、お土産でも見かける、レイの材料として使われるククイナッツの木を教えてもらったり、牧場内を進んでいくうちに、当然のことながら、牛が団体で現れたり、楽しかったです。
さすがに、2時間が終わるころには、お尻が痛くて仕方ありませんでした（数日、痛みに苦しみました）。
次回、友達と行くときにも、もう一度2時間コースに参加する予定です。

I experienced horseback riding for the first time while learning to handle the reins. During the approximately two-hour ride, I was able to enjoy the magnificent scenery of Hawaii and visit movie filming locations, and the time flew by. The horse I rode didn't always listen to me and had some unexpected moments, like suddenly running off or stopping to eat, but it was a wonderful memory. Since you can't choose the horse, I think it's just luck of the day, but I believe all of them are good horses. The next day, I had muscle soreness and bruises.

初めての引き綱操作で乗馬を体験しました。約2時間の乗馬でハワイの壮大な景色や映画の撮影地を回ることが出来、あっというまに時間が過ぎました。私の乗った馬は少し言うことを聞かず、突然走り出したり、止まってえさを食べたりというハプニングもありましたが、とても良い思い出です。馬は選ぶことができないため、その日その日の運かなぁと思いますが、どの子もいい子だと思います。
翌日は筋肉痛であざが出来ました。

I participated in a seaside horseback riding plan with my mother on January 20th.

On this day, there were four participants in total: the two of us at the seaside and two in the valley.

Unfortunately, we couldn't stop by Moanalua Gardens as it was under construction, but we made a special stop at the Healing Stones in Wahiawa before heading to Dole Plantation. We had a good amount of time there, allowing us to leisurely enjoy the famous Dole Whip pineapple soft serve.

We also tried our hand at turtle watching on the North Shore beach, but the waves were high that day, and no turtles came ashore.

At 11 AM, we had lunch in Haleiwa. Our guide took us to the restaurant we wanted, and we had garlic shrimp at MACKY'S. The lemon pepper flavor was refreshing and highly recommended.

At noon, we dropped off the two participants from the valley horseback riding plan at Happy Trails, and we headed to Turtle Bay Resort, the seaside horseback riding point. Luckily, we spotted a whale from the car window during our drive!

Our horseback riding experience started at 12:30 PM, and during this time, it was just the two of us. We were lucky! I have some riding experience, but it was my mother's first time, so we decided to join this beginner-friendly plan. However, I found it a bit lacking for experienced riders since we weren't allowed to canter. Still, the scenery was beautiful with both bush and seaside views, so we could enjoy the atmosphere.

The ride was conducted at a walk to a brisk walk, which I think would be perfectly fine for beginners or those with little experience, and I was very satisfied with the content. There were some ups and downs along the way. The horses seemed well-trained, making them very easy to ride.

For the seaside horseback riding, the riding instructions were briefly explained by our guide/driver in the car, and there were none at the site. We were immediately assigned our horses and got on. Because of this, we had a solid 45 minutes of riding!

I think it was a great tour in terms of being able to enjoy horseback riding casually.

As a side note, one of the participants in the valley horseback riding fell off while dismounting and ended up muddy when we went to pick them up. For those going in the future, please enjoy yourselves without letting your guard down until the end!

母と２人で海辺乗馬プランに参加(1/20)しました。

この日の参加者は私たち海辺２人＋渓谷２人の計４人。

残念ながらモアナルアガーデンは工事中ということで立ち寄ることができず、今回は特別にワヒアワのヒーリングストーンに寄って、ドールプランテーションへ。しっかり滞在時間を取ってくださったので、名物のパイナップルソフトクリームのドールホイップをゆっくり食べることができました。
ノースショアのビーチでウミガメウォッチングにもチャレンジしましたが、この日は波が高くて浜辺に上がってくる奇亀はいませんでした。。
１１時にハレイワでランチ。希望のお店に連れて行ってくださったので、ＭＡＣＫＹ’Ｓでガーリックシュリンプを食べました。レモンペッパー味がさっぱりでおすすめです。
１２時に渓谷乗馬プランの２人をハッピートレイルズで降ろして、私たちは海岸乗馬ポイントであるタートルベイリゾートへ。移動中、運よく車窓からクジラが観測できました！

１２時３０分から乗馬体験。この時間帯は私たち２人の貸し切りでした。ラッキーです☆
私は乗馬経験者ですが、母は初体験でしたので、今回はこの初心者向けのプランに参加することにしたわけですが、やはりどーしても経験者には物足りないです。。駈歩はやらせてもらえませんからね。が、ブッシュあり海辺ありで、景色はとても良いので雰囲気だけは楽しめます。
常歩~速歩程度で行われるので、初めての人や経験の少ない人には問題なく、大満足の内容になってると思いました。わりとアップダウンはあります。馬はよく調教されているようでしたので、とても乗りやすかったです。
なお、海辺乗馬の場合は、乗馬の注意事項は車内でガイド兼運転手さんから簡単に説明があっただけで、現地ではまったくなし。いきなり馬がセレクトされ、騎乗する流れでした。その分、４５分しっかり乗れます！！

気軽に乗馬が楽しめる点においては、とても良いツアーだったと思います。

余談ですが、渓谷乗馬の１人が下馬する時に落ちてしまったそうで、迎えに行った時に泥んこになってました。これから行かれる方は最後まで気を抜かずに楽しんで来てください。

This time, I participated in this tour for horseback riding. It includes sightseeing at "This Tree, What Tree" and the North Shore, so it feels like a good deal. On the day of the tour, there were three groups with eight people, all of whom went horseback riding in the valley. It was a homey tour, and we were able to bond with the other participants.

Now, let me comment on the main horseback riding experience. It was our first time riding. I was a bit anxious because it was mentioned in the previous posts that the riding lecture would be in English. Happy Train is a small ranch run by a couple, and they explained everything with great enthusiasm using gestures, so it was easy to understand. In fact, the horses were well-trained, and we didn't need to give any commands at all.

We rode along a hilly mountain path, with the ranch's wife leading the way in a single file. The husband followed at the back. The ranch's dog (a Border Collie) also came along. It was mostly in the forest, and surprisingly, it wasn't too hot. There were a couple of spots where the view opened up, and we could see the sea of the North Shore. Since the horses are polo-style, we held the reins with one hand, allowing us to take photos (with a compact camera) with the other hand. The ranch staff also took photos for us along the way, so definitely bring a camera. I brought a waist pouch, but you can also borrow one.

The horses were really well-trained and walked in a straight line. They stopped automatically when the horse in front stopped, which made it quite easy. My wife's horse was unique, as it tended to walk on the edges and even pushed into the bushes at times... but that was quite funny.

I think even a six-year-old would be fine with this. However, since they are animals, one must not let their guard down, and we had to sign a waiver.

An hour and a half passed in no time. The ranch's wife shared various stories about the trees and nature while we were riding, and I really wished I could speak more English.

So, while experienced riders might find it a bit lacking, I believe it is a fantastic activity for beginners or those like us trying it for the first time. Both my wife and I consider this the number one memory of our trip to Hawaii.

今回、乗馬目的でこのツアーに参加しました。「この木なんの木」やノースショアの観光もついているのでお得感はあります。当日の参加者は３グループ８人で、全員渓谷での乗馬でした。アットホームなツアーで参加者で打ち解けることができました。
メインの乗馬についてコメントします。わたしたちにとって初めての乗馬です。あらかじめこちらの書き込みで乗馬のレクチャーは英語でと書かれていたので不安もありました。ハッピートレインは夫婦でやっておられる小さい牧場なのですが、夫婦が一生懸命に手振り身振りを交えながらレクチャーしてくださるのでよくわかりました。というより、馬がよく調教されていて、こちらが指示する必要がまったくなかったです。
アップダウンが結構ある山道を牧場の奥さんを先頭に一列になって進んでいきます。旦那さんが最後尾で付いてくれます。牧場の犬（ボーダーコリー）もついて来ていました。ほとんど森林の中で思ったより暑くなかったです。２か所ほど視界が開けていてノースショアの海が見えました。ポロスタイルの馬ですので片手で手綱を持ちますのでもう片方の手で写真（コンパクトカメラで）を撮ることができます。また牧場の方が途中で写真を撮ってくれますので是非カメラを持参してください。わたしはウエストポーチを持って行きましたが、貸してももらえます。
本当によく調教されていて一列できっちり歩いてくれます。前が止まると勝手に止まってくれますし、ちょっと物足りないくらい楽でした。妻の馬だけユニークな馬で、はしっこばかり歩いたり、ブッシュに突っ込んでいくとかありましたが…。それはそれで大笑いでした。
これなら、６歳の子でも大丈夫だと思います。しかし、動物のことですので油断は禁物ですし誓約書も書かされます。
１時間半あっというまに時間が経ちました。牧場の奥さんが乗馬中も色々と木や自然の話をしてくださるので、もっと英語が話せたらよかったとつくづく思いました。
ということで乗馬の経験者の方には少し物足りないと思いますが、わたしたちのような初挑戦や、初心者の方には大満足のアクティビティだと思います。妻も私も今回のハワイ旅行の思い出ナンバー１です。

I have participated in dolphin tours abroad twice in the past, but unfortunately, I never got to see any dolphins. This time, there was no sign of them for a while, and I started to feel anxious... But finally, I encountered about ten dolphins! I was able to swim with them (although it was quite tough since dolphins swim very fast...). I also got close enough to touch a sea turtle. It was a really fun experience.

過去に2回、海外でイルカツアーに参加したのですが、残念ながら会えたことがありませんでした。今回もしばらくは全く気配なし。もしや...と不安に思った頃、ついに10頭くらいのイルカと遭遇! イルカについて泳ぐことができました(ただ、イルカは泳ぐのが速いので、かなりつらかったです...)。また、海ガメにも触れられるくらい近くまで行きました。とっても楽しい経験ができました。

After a brief explanation of horseback riding, we set off. The horse's pace is very slow, making it safe for children to participate. We enjoyed views of the ocean in the distance and visited locations used for filming, such as Jurassic Park. However, during the two-hour course, the horse seemed quite tired towards the end, which made me feel really sorry for it.

簡単な乗馬の説明ののち、いざ出発。馬の歩みは非常に遅いため、子供でも安全に参加できます。海を遠くに眺めたり、ジュラシックパークなどのロケに使われたところを回ったりします。ただ、2時間コースだと、馬がかなり最後の方はパテ気味で、とても申し訳ない気分になってしまいました。

This was my first time renting a van for sightseeing, and it was amazing! The driver taught us various things and seemed to have a hard time accommodating our requests, but he handled everything with a smile, and we were very satisfied.

今回初めてバンを貸し切っての観光をしましたが、最高でした！ドライバーの方もいろいろなことを教えてくれながら私たちのわがままを聞いてもらい大変だったように思いますが、笑顔で対応してくれとても満足しました。

I go to Hawaii every year for a work trip. I always participate in horseback riding, and this time I enjoyed a long ride. However, it was disappointing that the instructor only spoke English, so I couldn't communicate. I feel that if we could have conversed, it would have made for an even more enjoyable holiday.

毎年ハワイへ職場の旅行で行っています。その中乗馬は欠かさず参加していますが、今回は長時間の乗馬が出来て楽しかったです。ですが、インストラクターが英語のみだったのでコミュニケーションが出来ずに残念でした。会話ができればもっと楽しい休日をおくれたように思います。

We participated as a couple. On the day we joined, there were a total of 11 people in 5 groups. The driver entertained us with various stories until we reached the North Shore. We stopped by the Dole Plantation, which had many original products, and we had a great time even without shopping.

Although lunch was served quite early, around 10:30, all participants were surprised and said, "Already??" However, for us, who hadn't had breakfast, it was just the right time. Since it was Sunday, there was a food stall selling Huli Huli chicken, so we had lunch there. Nearby, there was also a famous shaved ice shop, allowing us to enjoy ourselves thoroughly before heading to horseback riding.

When we arrived at the ranch for horseback riding, the instructions were only in English, which was a bit confusing, but the ranch staff did their best to explain in English, so we were able to enjoy horseback riding throughout. Unlike Japanese ranches, we could ride for 90 minutes, which was very satisfying. I definitely want to participate again on my trip to Hawaii in two years, but since lunch costs are not included, I hope the tour price will be around $80 to $100.

私たちが参加した日は、５グループ合計１１人でした。
ドライバーさんはノースショアーへ着くまで、色々な話で楽しませてくれました。
途中ドールプランテーションへ寄りましたが、オリジナル商品が沢山あり、買い物しなくても楽しめました。
１０時半過ぎという早い時間に昼食となりましたが、参加者全員が「もう？？」と驚いていましたが、朝食を取っていなかった私たちにはちょうど良い時間でした。
日曜日ということもあり、フリフリチキンの屋台が出ていたので、私たちはそちらでランチにしました。
近くには有名なかき氷屋さんもあり乗馬へ行くまでも存分に楽しむことができました。
乗馬する牧場(～!)へ着くと、英語のみの説明になり、戸惑いましたが、牧場のお母さんが英語ながら一生懸命説明してくれたので、終始楽しく乗馬できました。
日本の牧場と違い９０分も乗馬できるので、非常に満足できます。
再来年のハワイ旅行でも是非参加したいと思いますが、昼食代などが含まれていないので、ツアー代金が８０~１００ドルほどになると良いなと思いました。

If you want to go horseback riding but don't want to do it at Kualoa and would like to do some sightseeing as well, I think this is a great option.

There were six participants, two people in three groups.

After being picked up before 9 AM, we were taken by our guide Wayne to Moanalua (the tree, what kind of tree is this?) → Dole → Haleiwa (for lunch) → North Shore (to see turtles) → horseback riding → and then back home.

It seemed that all the participants this time were repeat visitors who had already experienced the classic Oahu sightseeing course before horseback riding, so I thought it would be nice if we could arrange stops based on the participants' preferences.

The horseback riding was fantastic. Unlike Kualoa, where you ride in large groups for about 30 minutes, this time there were only eight of us: four Japanese, one from the West, and three from Southeast Asia, allowing us to take our time and climb the mountain over 90 minutes. It didn't feel at all like the experience of being "just put on a horse and walked" as it does at large facilities.

For some reason, the horse I rode had a habit of walking along the right edge of the mountain path, constantly bumping into trees and leaves.

It seems that the operation is run by a man and a woman who appear to be the owners, so there might be some horses that haven't been trained well. That was interesting in its own way. My wife was laughing the whole time watching me bump into the trees!

乗馬がしたい、でもクアロアじゃヤダ、一部観光もしたいという方にオススメだと思います。

参加者は２人×３組＝６人でした。

朝９時前のピックアップ後、ガイドのウェインさんに連れられてモアナルア（この木何の木）→ドール→ハレイワ（昼食）→ノース（亀）→乗馬→帰路という行程をこなします。

今回の参加メンバーは皆リピーターで乗馬前のオアフ観光鉄板コースは既に体験済みのようだったので、参加者の度合いに応じて寄るところをアレンジ出来ればいいなと思いました。

乗馬は最高でした。クアロアのように大人数で３０分程度というわけではなくて、今回は日本人４人、欧米系１人、東南アジア系３人＝８人というこじんまりとした人数でゆっくり９０分掛けて山を登ります。大規模施設での乗馬のように「乗せられて、ただ歩いた」って感じはまったくありません。

私の乗った馬はなぜか山道の右端ばかりを歩く（癖）ので木にや葉っぱに当たりっぱなしでした。

オーナーと思わしき男性と女性の２名で切り盛りしているようですので、中には調教がうまくいっていない馬もいるのでしょう。
それはそれで、おもしろかったです。ちょいちょい木に当たる自分を見て妻は終始大爆笑でした！

From 2005 to 2009

For us, who visit Hawaii every year, horseback riding is an essential activity.

This time, I had previously participated in this course with another optional tour, but I decided to go again because I wanted to visit the North Shore.

The hotel pickup was on time.

There were three groups, including my husband and me, totaling six people.

The male guide was gentle and shared enjoyable stories about the scenery we saw while driving, including the history of the Ala Wai Canal and Waikiki, as well as filming locations for LOST.

First, we visited:
Moanalua Gardens - "This Tree, What Tree?"
Dole Plantation Gardens
Kahuku Shrimp in Haleiwa
Sea Turtle Point
And the main event, the valley horseback riding.

All the staff at the ranch only speak English.

However, we felt reassured because the guide had already given us a briefing on horseback riding.

The staff chose horses that suited us, and I was matched with a horse that I thought would be perfect for me.

We leisurely rode up and down the valley.

At times, we could hear the sound of the waves and feel the sea breeze, enjoying our time.

Both beginners and experienced riders can feel safe with the gentle horses.

The ranch dogs also accompanied us, making it a truly healing experience for both body and mind.

毎年渡ハしている私達には乗馬は外せないアクティビティです。

今回のコースは以前ほかのオプショナルで参加したことがありましたが、またノースショアにも行ってみたかったので決めました。

ガイドの男性も穏やかな方で運転しながら見える景色の話からアラワイ運河やワイキキの成り立ち

ＬＯＳＴの撮影現場の話などを交えての楽しい話を聞かせて下さいました。

牧場のスタッフは皆さん英語しか話しません。

しかし予めガイドさんから乗馬の心得をレクチャーしていただいているので安心です。

スタッフの方が私達に合う馬を選んでくれてその馬に騎乗します。

きっと私はこの馬だろうなという馬をチョイスしてくれました。

のんびりと渓谷を登ったり下ったり

時には波の音が聞こえてきたり潮風を感じたりの時間を過ごしました。

初めての人も経験者の人も優しい馬たちなので安心できます。

牧場の犬達も一緒に付いてきてくれたりで心身共に癒される思いの一時でした。

Since my horseback riding experience at a ranch in Hokkaido, I had been thinking, "I want to ride a horse again!!" When I found this activity, I immediately signed up. There were other horseback riding tours available, but I chose this one because it offered a Japanese-speaking guide.

In the morning, I was picked up from my hotel and we headed to Dole Plantation and the North Shore, stopping at each participant's hotel. Along the way, our guide Wayne shared various stories in fluent Japanese, making the car ride enjoyable and never boring.

At Dole Plantation, our time was short, so I couldn't try the popular pineapple soft serve, but I was happy to visit since I had wanted to go there. Taking photos with the train in the background before departure also became a nice memory. By the way, the restrooms at Dole Plantation are spacious and clean, so I recommend using them.

Shortly after leaving Dole Plantation, the beautiful sea of the North Shore came into view, and I felt a rush of excitement. Our guide kindly parked the car in front of the famous North Shore sign, allowing us to take commemorative photos.

We had an early lunch in the town of North Shore. Since we participated on a Sunday, we had lunch at a stand selling "Huli Huli Chicken." There were also famous shrimp places in North Shore, but I had heard that "Huli Huli Chicken" could only be tasted at the weekend market, so I decided without hesitation. I was a bit nervous thinking, "Is it spicy?" but it turned out to be pleasantly spicy and delicious. The vendor also gave us something like pickled starfruit, which was tasty too.

After lunch, it was finally time for horseback riding. The canyon riding team took us to the mountain ranch first. This was where I had to say goodbye to Wayne, who was fluent in Japanese (crying).

At the mountain ranch, there was no Japanese explanation at all, and I struggled to understand everything in English. At first, I felt like crying, but the staff lady explained things with gestures, which gradually eased my anxiety about not understanding English.

The horse I rode was very free-spirited, and when it got thirsty, it headed straight for the water bucket on its own, giving off a "tough" vibe.

北海道の牧場で乗馬体験をして以来、「もう一度馬に乗りたい！！」と思っていたところ、ちょうどこのアクティビティーを見つけ、申し込みました。
他にも乗馬ツアーがありましたが、こちらを選んだ理由は日本語ガイドとあったからです。

朝、滞在先のホテルでピックアップしてもらい、各参加者のホテルを回りドールプランテーション、ノースショアへ向かいました。
途中、ガイドのウェインさんが流暢な日本語で色々なお話をして下さり、退屈することなく車中を過ごすことができました。

ドールプランテーションでは滞在時間が短いので、人気のパイナップルのソフトクリームを食することができませんでしたが、一度訪れてみたいと思っていましたので、嬉しかったです。
発車前の汽車をバックに写真撮影できたことも良い思い出になりました。
余談ですが、ドールプランテーションのお手洗いは広くてきれいなので、こちらでお手洗いを済ませることをお勧めします。

ドールプランテーションを出発してしばらすると眼前にノースショアの美しい海が目に入り、何だか興奮してしまいました。
有名なノースショアの看板の前で、わざわざ駐車して下さるので、こちらでも記念撮影できます。

ノースショアの街で早めの昼食タイムがあります。
私たちは日曜日の参加でしたので、「フリフリチキン」の屋台（？）で昼食を取りました。
ノースショアで有名なシュリンプのお店もありましたが、「フリフリチキン」は土日のマーケットでしか味わえないと聞いていたので、迷わず決めました。
「辛いのかなぁ」とドキドキしていたら、程よいスパイシーさで美味しかったです。
お店の人がスターフルーツのお漬物（？）みたいなのを配って下さり、そちらも美味しかったです。

昼食が終わると、いよいよ乗馬になります。
渓谷乗馬チームが先に山の牧場へ送っていただきました。
ここで日本語が堪能なウェインさんとはお別れです（泣）。

山の牧場では、日本語の説明は全くなく、ＡＬＬ英語で聞き取るのに必死で、最初は泣きそうになりましたが、スタッフのおばさんが身振り手振りで一生懸命説明してくれたので、英語が分からない不安さは次第に消えて行きました。

私の乗った馬は、非常に自由気ままな馬で、のどが渇いたりすると勝手に水桶へ向かってしまったりと「手ごわそう」な雰囲気だ

This was my second time in Hawaii. I had visited the North Shore before and loved the scenery and the town, so I wanted to go back. This tour included sightseeing at places I had been to before, like Moanalua Gardens and Dole, but I thought it would be fun to go horseback riding on the North Shore, so my husband and I decided to join.

At Turtle Beach, we met turtles for the first time, which we hadn't encountered during our last visit! In Haleiwa, we strolled for about an hour, including lunch, and we filled up on giant hamburgers at Kua Aina!

In the horseback riding group, there was a foreign family along with us, making a total of six people. My husband was trying horseback riding for the first time, and I hadn't ridden in a few years, so I felt a bit nervous seeing the size of the horses. However, they carefully explained the instructions, and they matched the horses to the participants' sizes—smaller horses for children and women, and larger ones for men.

We rode in a line through the mountains, with the lead instructor checking on everyone as we progressed slowly. The horses were well-trained and followed the horse in front without needing much direction, so I had no worries at all. The course had some ups and downs, which made it even more enjoyable. From the top of the mountain, we had a stunning view of the North Shore sea! The instructor took photos at the scenic points. The riding time felt long enough to really enjoy it. I think it's something that both adults and children can enjoy!

今回が2度目のハワイ。
前回もノースショアは訪れていましたが、その時の景色や街並みが気に入って、また行きたいと思っていました。このツアーには、モアナルアガーデンやDoleなど前回も行った場所の観光が含まれていましたが、ノースショアで乗馬なんて面白いかも♪と思い夫婦で参加しました。
立ち寄った亀ビーチでは前回は出会えなかった亀に初対面！
HALEIWAではランチ込みで1時間ほど散策。KUAAINAで巨大ハンバーガーを食べてお腹いっぱいになりました！

渓谷の乗馬参加者は私達の他に外国人ファミリー。子供を含む計6人でした。
主人は乗馬初挑戦、私も数年ぶりだったので馬の大きさを見て少し緊張しましたが、注意事項など丁寧に教えてもらえたし、子供や女性にはわりと小柄な馬、男性には大きい馬と体格に合わせて馬を選んでくれました。
6人で列を成して山の中を歩く、といった感じで先頭のインストラクターの方が参加者の様子を確認しつつゆっくり進んでいくのですが、馬はしっかり調教されていて特に指示をしなくてもちゃんと前の馬についていってくれるので、何の心配もありませんでした。
コースは起伏があってそれがまた楽しかったです。
山の上からはノースショアの海が一望できて、景色は最高！
撮影ポイントではインストラクターの方が写真を撮ってくれました。
乗馬時間は長く感じるくらい十分楽しめました。
大人から子供まで楽しめると思います！

I experienced the 2-hour course. The horses are very intelligent, so there is almost no safety concern even for beginners. I was able to enjoy the best moments while being gently rocked by the horse in the magnificent nature.

Since the 2-hour course does not include transportation, we took The Bus (Route 55). It's only $2.25 one way, which is a great deal! It takes about an hour and a half from Ala Moana Shopping Center to arrive right in front of the ranch. However, it seems that the Route 55 bus runs infrequently, so I recommend allowing extra time for your departure.

２時間コースを体験してきました。
馬がとても利口なので、初心者でも安全面の心配はほとんどありません。雄大な自然の中をのんびりと馬に揺られながら最高のひと時を過ごせました。

２時間コースは送迎がついていない為、私たちはザ・バス(55番)で行きました。片道2.25＄なので、とってもお得です!アラモアナショッピングセンターからだいたい1時間30分弱で牧場の目の前に着きます。ただ55番のバスは本数が少ないようだったので時間に余裕をもって出発することをおすすめします。

I participated at the beginning of October. It was a relaxing trip in Waikiki, but I wanted to do some sightseeing in other places and also had a desire to go horseback riding, so I decided on this tour. I was torn between this and Kualoa Ranch, but I chose this one because the horseback riding time was longer and it included sightseeing in the North Shore.

The tour started with a meeting at the hotel at 9 AM. There were 10 people in total, including us, participating in the tour (all Japanese).

First, we made a brief stop at Moanalua Gardens for some photos. Next, at the Dole Plantation, we had about 30 minutes of free time to enjoy pineapple soft serve ice cream and stroll through the gardens. After that, we headed to Haleiwa. The drive was pleasant, with coffee fields stretching out along the way. It took about an hour and a half, but it didn’t feel long at all.

We arrived in Haleiwa around 10:30 AM. After that, we had about an hour of free time, including lunch. I heard there’s a famous garlic shrimp restaurant in Haleiwa, and it seemed like the other tour participants went there for lunch. Since lunch was quite early, I think those who decide to eat there should have a light breakfast that morning. We were dropped off at the Haleiwa Shopping Center and wandered around. We tried something called “Huli Huli Chicken” from a nearby food stall. This stall, which only opens on Saturdays, is quite famous and had many Japanese tourists. The whole roasted chicken was hot and well-seasoned, and while it may not look like much, I highly recommend it.

The horseback riding in the valley was a fun course with some ups and downs, but the scenery mostly felt like being in the forest. For experienced riders, it might be a bit lacking. However, they provide thorough instructions on how to ride and safety tips, so beginners will have no problem at all. After horseback riding, we stopped by Turtle Beach, but since we could see from the road that there were no turtles, we didn’t go down to the beach and headed back instead.

Although it was a bit rushed with the North Shore sightseeing and horseback riding in half a day, I was able to enjoy it as expected.

10月の初めに参加しました。ワイキキでのんびり過ごす旅行でしたが、他の場所も観光してみたかったのと、乗馬がしたいとう希望もありましたので、このツアーに決めました。クアロア牧場とで迷いましたが、乗馬の時間が長かったこととノースショアの観光も付いているということでこちらに決めました。
９時にホテルに待ち合わせでツアーはスタート。私達の他に４組１０人がツアーに参加していました。（全員日本人）
まずはモアナルアガーデンに少し立寄り写真撮影。続くドール・プランテーションでは３０分程の自由行動があり、パイナップルソフトクリームを食べたり、お庭を散策したり。その後、ハレイワへ向かいます。道中はコーヒー畑が広がっていたりして気持ちの良いドライブでした。時間にして１時間半くらいですが移動が長いという感じはしませんでした。
10時半くらいにハレイワに到着。その後昼食を含め１時間程の自由時間となります。ハレイワには有名なガーリックシュリンプのお店があるらしく他のツアー参加者の皆さんはそちらで昼食を取ったようです。昼食時間が相当早いので“ここで食べる！”と決めている方は当日の朝食は軽めが良いと思います。私たちはハレイワショッピングセンターで下ろしてもらいブラブラと散策。近くにあった屋台で“フリフリチキン”なるものを食べました。毎週土曜日だけ出店されるこの屋台は結構有名らしく日本人の観光客も多くいました。丸ごと焼いたチキンは熱々でしっかり味がついていて、見た目はさほどでもありません（笑）がおすすめです。
渓谷の乗馬は、起伏があり楽しいコースでしたが、景色はほとんど森林の中と言った感じでした。乗馬経験者には、少し物足りないコースかもしれません。ただ、馬の乗り方や注意点は丁寧に教えてもらえるので初心者でも全く問題ありません。乗馬の後は、ウミガメビーチに寄りましたが、道路からビーチが見下ろせるためウミガメがいないと分かるとビーチに降りることもなくそのまま帰路につきました。
半日でノースショア観光+乗馬だったのですこし駆け足でしたが、期待通り楽しむことができました。

I thought two hours would be long for my first horseback riding experience, but I got used to the horse and was able to enjoy the scenery, making it just right for a relaxed time. The horse was more accustomed and smarter than I expected, so it walked properly without me needing to give too many instructions. The scenery was magnificent, and it's easy to understand why it has been used in many film shoots. Riding on a horse, rather than in a mechanical vehicle, is quiet and creates a sense of unity with nature, which feels very pleasant.

However, it's undeniable that the details of the scenery and location were hard to understand since the explanations were only in English. If it were just a matter of understanding English, that would be one thing, but since they didn't use a microphone, it was difficult to hear the voice itself. This could lead to feeling like the two hours were too long, just staring blankly at the scenery without really understanding anything. We still felt sufficiently relaxed, though.

This might depend on the guide as well. The participants (just under 20 people) walked in a single line, with staff at the front and back. Since we weren't walking closely together, both staff members needed to guide us; otherwise, we couldn't hear the explanations. Normally, both might be guiding, but this time only the staff at the front was providing guidance, so we at the back could hardly hear any explanations. The front was made up of Western participants, while the back had Japanese participants, so the guide at the back might have thought it was pointless to explain in English, but I would have preferred explanations in English as well. If that's not possible, I think it would be good to use a microphone or earphones, or provide a map explaining the walking route. If the explanations and details were clear, two hours would fly by, and the recommendation level would significantly increase.

乗馬初体験で２時間は長いかと思いましたが、馬に慣れて景色を楽しむ余裕が出て、ゆったりと過ごすには丁度良かったです。乗馬そのものについては馬のほうが慣れていて賢いので、こちらがそんなに指示しなくてもきちんと歩いてくれます。景色は壮大で、多くの映画撮影に使われたというのも納得です。機械の乗り物ではなく、馬で歩くのは静かで、自然と一体感があってとても気持ちが良いです。
ただ、英語解説のみのため景色や場所の説明の詳細が分かりにくいことは否めません。英語が理解しにくいだけなら仕方ないですが、マイクを使わないので、声そのものが聞き取りにくく、ある意味何も分からず景色をボーっと眺めながらだけの２時間になって長すぎると感じる可能性もあります。私たちはそれでも十分癒されましたが。
ただしこれはガイドさんにもよるのかもしれません。
参加者は（２０人弱）一本の列になって歩き、先頭と最後尾にはスタッフがつきます。そもそも固まって歩かないため、両方のスタッフがガイドをしないと説明は聞こえないので、通常は両方行っているのかもしれませんが、今回は先頭のスタッフのみガイドをしていたので後方にいた私たちはほとんど説明が聞こえませんでした。前方は欧米参加者、後方は日本人参加者だったので、後方のガイドさんは英語で説明しても仕方ないと思ったのかもしれませんが、そこは英語でも説明をしてほしかったです。できないなら、マイクやイヤホン、歩く場所の説明ＭＡＰなどで対応しても良いと思います。説明や詳細が分かれば２時間はあっという間ですからおススメ度もかなりＵＰします。

I can't forget the fun of horseback riding twice on the mainland United States, so my parents and I participated together. It was their first time, but they enjoyed it.

At the beginning, they explain how to ride the horse and use the reins with simple Japanese, so I think it's not a problem even if you don't understand English. The horses are all calm and gentle. They are really smart horses, allowing us to enjoy horseback riding with peace of mind. They walk slowly, and when the horse in front stops, they stop properly and don't overtake. The owner and his daughter? follow us at the front and back, which was reassuring. There was only one moment when we cantered, which was a bit thrilling and fun!!

It was a hot day with strong Hawaiian sunshine, but the horseback riding in the valley was quiet and shaded by trees, making it pleasant. We could also see the ocean along the way, which was beautiful.

They take photos for you, and if you have time, you can also take your own photos and videos. You can either hang your belongings on the horse or leave them with them. They also lend you a waist pouch for valuables and cameras.

Although it was supposed to be a 90-minute ride, we were actually on the horse for about an hour, which was a bit disappointing. This time, with transportation included, we were able to stop by Dole Pineapple, garlic shrimp, a sea turtle beach, Haleiwa Town, and Moanalua Gardens, so I was satisfied. However, I would have liked a bit more time in Haleiwa Town.

The driver provided information about the hospital where President Obama was born and military bases along the way to North Shore, and we enjoyed the scenery from the car window. Without the transportation, it wouldn't be easy to get there, so I think having transportation is great.

Also, I think it would be perfect if the price were a bit lower!!

アメリカ本土での２回の乗馬の楽しさが忘れられなくて、両親と私の３人で参加しました。両親は初めてでしたが楽しんでくれていました。
初めに馬の乗り方や綱の使い方を簡単な日本語をまじえて説明してくれますので英語がわからなくても問題ないと思います。
馬はみんな落ち着いていて、おとなしいです。本当に頭のいい馬達で安心して乗馬を楽しむことができました。ゆっくり歩いてくれますし、前の馬が止まればきちんと止まって、抜かしたりしません。オーナーと娘さん？が先頭と後ろについてきてくれますので安心でした。途中一度だけ駆け足になりましたがちょっとしたスリリングがあり楽しかったです！！
ハワイの日差しはきつく暑い日でしたが、渓谷の乗馬は静かで木の影があるので気持ちよかったです。途中で海も見えてきれいでした。
写真も撮ってくれますし、余裕があれば自分でも写真やビデオをとることができます。
荷物は馬に掛けて持っていくか、預けることができます。
貴重品やカメラを入れるウエストポーチも貸してくれます。
９０分の乗馬とのことでしたが、実際馬に乗っていたのは１時間程でしたので少し残念でした。
今回は送迎付きで、ドールパイナップル、ガーリックシュリンプ、海亀のビーチ、ハレイワタウン、モアナルアガーデンにも立ち寄れたので満足でした。ただ、ハレイワタウンの時間が短かったのでもう少し長いとうれしかったです。
送迎の運転手さんはノースシェアまでの道でオバマ大統領の産まれた病院や米軍の基地等教えてくれ、車窓からの景色も楽しめました。
送迎がなかったら簡単に行けるところではないので送迎があるといいと思います。
あとは料金がもっと安いと最高だと思います！！

The main event of this trip to Hawaii was horseback riding. Since we chose the 2-hour course, there were no other Japanese participants, which was perfect for us as we were trying to avoid Japanese people during our travels (even though I am very much Japanese myself). We also drove there with a rental car.

I felt completely at ease during the horseback riding, and above all, the scenery was absolutely stunning! As we rode through the valley, which is a filming location for Jurassic Park, it truly felt like a dream, and I was completely healed by nature. Since it seems that you can only visit this place on the 2-hour horseback riding course, I highly recommend it!

今回のハワイ旅行のメインイベントだった乗馬。
2時間コースにしたので、他の日本人は皆無で、旅行中日本人を避けている（自分はバリバリ日本人なんですけどね）私たちにはぴったり。現地へもレンタカーで行きました。
乗馬自体も全く不安なく、何よりも景色がすばらしすぎる！！ジュラシックパークのロケ地になっている渓谷を進んでいるときは、本当に夢のようで、大自然に完全に癒されました。
2時間コースでしか乗馬でここへは訪れないようなので、ぜひとも2時間コースをおすすめします☆

At first, I thought two hours might be a long time, but once I actually tried horseback riding, it felt like no time at all. Perhaps because they are used to dealing with tourists, the staff was very accommodating, and the arrangements for watching the video about horseback riding were well organized. My family of four is quite experienced with horseback riding, but even complete beginners can enjoy it safely and comfortably. Additionally, during the ride, they provide explanations in both English and Japanese about the locations (scenery) and history, which adds to the experience. We also pass through filming locations from movies like Jurassic Park and Lost, which I think would be a delight for movie fans.

最初は2時間は時間的に長いかな、と思いましたが実際乗馬をしてみればあっという間に感じました。さすがに観光客相手に慣れている為か対応や乗馬に関してのビデオを見る段取り等、うちの家族は４人共乗馬は何度も乗っていて慣れてますが、まったくの初心者でも安全、安心に乗馬が楽しめます。また乗馬中も英語、日本語で場所（景色）や歴史について説明してくれますので楽しめますし、ジュラシック・パークやLOST等のロケ地の中を通りますので映画ファンにはたまらないと思います。

I had a great time, but I would appreciate it if we could have some bathroom breaks and rest periods along the way.

とても楽しかったのですが、途中でトイレや休憩時間を入れていただけれるとありがたいです。

Overall, it was fun to run a lot, but my butt got chafed and hurt.

ともかく、たくさん走れて面白かったがお尻がすれて痛かった。

The first ride of 2009 was on January 2 at Gunstock Ranch on Oahu. We drove from Waikiki via H1 → R63 → R83 heading north, passed the Polynesian Cultural Center, and just a few minutes further on the left, we saw the sign for Gunstock Ranch. It takes a little over an hour from Waikiki. On the way, we stopped by Cloverleaf Ranch. Two summers ago, my family of four, including the kids, had our first trekking ride there, which made it a memorable ranch for us. After that, my husband and I started attending lessons at the riding club Crane, where we experience ups and downs in a small arena while practicing canter.

Oahu has a couple of beginner-friendly trekking options, but Gunstock Ranch offers an advanced trail ride, which we eagerly signed up for. Due to poor conditions from the rain the day before, we were suggested to switch to a safer scenic ride. However, after discussing our riding experience with our young and cute guide Stephanie, who had a wonderful smile, we were allowed to canter in a safe area. TAKA had just ridden 15 kilometers along the coastline at Frontier Riding Club in Hokkaido last fall. However, for MAMI, who was on her first outdoor ride, it started with a trot, but by the second and third times, she was able to do a more dynamic canter, which was a thrilling experience compared to the small arena.

The group that rode before us consisted of a mix of three and two people, and it seemed they were trekking at a beginner's pace. They likely make efforts to accommodate as many requests as possible for the riding tour based on group composition and negotiations. I am especially grateful to Stephanie, our guide this time!

2009年の初乗りは1月2日オアフ島のガンストック牧場でした。ワイキキからレンタカーでH1→R63→R83と経由北上し、ポリネシアンカルチャーセンターを過ぎさらに北上、5分も行かないところに左手にガンストック牧場の看板があります。ワイキキから１時間ちょっとってとこでしょうか。行きに途中クロレア牧場に立ち寄りました。2年前の夏、子供たちとともに家族4人で初トレッキング常歩乗馬し、乗馬にはまった記念すべき牧場です。その後、乗馬クラブのクレインに夫婦で通い狭い馬場で駈歩のレッスンに一喜一憂しています。オアフの乗馬ツアーは初心者向けのポコポコトレッキングは２~３ありますが、ガンストック牧場はアドバンスド・トレイル・ライドがあり勇んで申し込みました。前日の雨による悪コンディションのため、安全なシーニック･ライドへの変更を提案されましたが、とっても若くてキュートで笑顔の素敵な女性ガイドのステファニーに乗馬経験を話し、セーフティーな場所でキャンター（駈歩）ＯＫってことになりました。TAKAは昨秋北海道のフロンティア乗馬クラブで海岸線を15キロ走ってきたところです。しかし初外乗のMAMIは最初トロット（速歩）でしたが、２回目３回目とどんどんダイナミックなキャンターが出て狭い馬場との違いに感動充実の時間となりました。私たちの前の時間に乗馬したグループは３＋２人の２組の混合でしたが、ビギナーのペースでのトレッキングだったようです。グループ編成と交渉次第で可能な限りの希望通りの乗馬ツアーの実現に努力してくれるのでしょう。とくに今回ガイドをしてくれたステファニーには大感謝ですっ♪

It was my first time riding a horse, but it was a well-trained horse, so it walked on its own without me having to do anything. It was such a cute horse.

乗馬は初めてでしたが、よく教育された馬なので何もしなくても歩いてくれました。とってもかわいい馬でした。
