Kauai
Not like it was 28 years ago. You are distanced fron dancers by stadium seating. Imu pig was good but the rest of the food was jusr adequate. Show wasn't spectular either.
It was great. The food options were incredible. Vegan menu items were a bonus. It was a fun, entertaining evening in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the family feeling.
We went to this luau with our two adult daughters. It was such a beautiful place to explore! We were able to walk around and take pictures. The dinner was good and nicely displayed. There was a little of something for everyone to like. The show was very good and entertaining. It got a little hard to sit for that long on the forward slanted seating though. I would recommend for a fun night.
Such a great experience- travel up the Wailua River, learn about history (Hawaiian and movie), visit the beautiful fern grotto, and learn the hula on your boat ride back to the dock. Easygoing and enchanting, photographic and peaceful.
Wow, what a wonderful experience! The fern grotto was breathtaking and I loved how they taught us how to hula!
Nice crew, entertainment (Hula and hawaiian music)
On a lovely sunny morning the cruise up the Wailua river to the Fern Grotto was a lovely experience. The entertainment was delightful and all staff friendly and helpful. Explanations about the history and nature were good.
Beautiful, interesting, very enjoyable. Crew were wonderful!
The Smiths river boat trip to the Fern Grotto was wonderful. We loved the live entertainment, they were great.
We have been to Luau's on all the islands but none of them can compare to the Smiths. The place is gorgeous. We felt like we were walking around in Disneyland. The food, service and show was excellent!
Smith's is a must to visit when on Kaua'i!!! Beautiful gardens and people who make you feel like extended family! A wonderful time!!
What a fabulous time! Loved this luaua show. It was best I've seen! Ate way too much but thoroughly enjoyed my evening!
Enjoyed trip up river much. Very nice crew. I wish they knew more about physical science of area. The history they shared was great. thx!
The tour of the Garden was fantastic. Peacocks all around. The tour guide was very hospitable and funny. The start of the Luau celebration was very informative and they explained about the tradition the Hawaiian people do and of their honorable way of life and respect for the planet in general. The seating was very organized and tables were called one at a time and in an expeditious manner. The food was very well presented and plenty of it. The salads and dressings were island flavor and very delish. The main dishes were local fish, Roasted Pork, Teryaki Chicken with your side of fried rice. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The Show was a great ending to the night with a history of the evolution of the Hawaiian Islands and its people. I would definitely do it again. Worth the time and money. Take a camera...plenty of photos.
Pros: I added the optional transfer for $12pp and it was nice to have someone else drive since drinks were included. This was a large tour bus with plenty of room. When you arrive, you are greeted with a flower lei. Some local venders were selling hand made items, spices, photos, and nuts. The grounds are well kept with a flower lei greeting. The food was very good and you could go back for seconds. The dancers and show was one of the best I have seen.
Cons: If you drive yourself, arrive early so you can find parking. Paying for the "Plantation Owner's Evening" I thought we should have been sitting closer and I didn't feel like I was being treated like an "Owner". See the photo I attached of how far back we were from the show. For some reason, our bartender was not having a good day and was basically being grumpy. I hope his attitude changed later.

This was an exceptional experience. Easily one of the highlights of our two weeks in Hawaii!
Smith's Tropical Paradise Garden Luau was an amazing experience. The grounds are amazing. There are many different types of Bamboo, Trees, flowers, and birds. The food is beyond delicious and the pork from the imu is mouth watering. The Luau is very colorful, long, and full of history. Loved the fire dancers. The entire family enjoyed their time here.
We attended the Smiths Luau and Show. The Luau and Show were very professionally organized. The Smiths have a family business and We would recommend their Luau and Show to anyone in the area. The food was very good, really liked the teriyaki beef and luau pork. The fire dancer at the nightly show was very good.
The food was fantastic, the grounds are gorgeous, and the show is absolutely mesmerizing! It was so cool to see all of the different influences that have contributed to the culture that is Hawaii. We cannot wait to come back and experience it again!
The show is as wonderful and the food was great! It was an excellent Hawaiian experience!
It was nice, although it was short. I rented a kayak for the same river. Hindsight I should of did my homework.
The pre dinner, dinner and the organization of entertainment surpassed my expectations. The show was awesome as well, if anything I'd say put some padding for the stadium seating.
Had a fun time at the luau. Good food and good dance show. Recommend that you go !!
My wife and I loved the quite trip down the river the music was great and the scenery was beautiful. Highly recommend to all looking to relax and escape it all!
Hurricane Iniki did in the fern grotto which I had not been aware of so was disappointed in that as it was always so beautiful. Other than that the river ride is always nice and Wailua such a beautiful place. The crew and entertainers were delightful and all in all it's a fun ride but as I said the fern grotto which is what most come to see was pretty much done in my mother nature. I had been on this ride more than once and first time as a child as my father was born in Lihue so I knew the grotto as it had been years ago so this most likely is what led me to my disappointment but first time goers will still find it a lovely trip and fun for all. Aloha
But this luau food , organization and content was better than the Polynesian village luau on Oahu. Food was great and liquor was included with admission.
Excellent. The food was wonderful and the hosts were very friendly. The show was good, but the male performers were average. I certainly recommend it though.
The landscaped grounds were beautiful. The host was perfect and gracious! Loved the show, which was after the dinner and even the show during the dinner. Only disappointment was the dinner. Would have thought for the price that we had something other than instant mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, rice w/seafood, and a chicken wing (other than the pulled pork). Mai Tai's were quite watered down, which was a disappointment. Not that I would want more than 2 - maybe 3 small drinks but it would have been nice to taste it somewhat.
This activity works for the whole family. The river is lovely and passengers get a bit of entertainment and a bit of history.
The staff and Captain were very nice. The musicians were outstanding! Loved the walk back to the boat, down the path through rain forest. A little disappointed in the viewing distance from the Fern Grotto. It was explained that in 2006, the area received torrential rainfall and suffered a mudslide. Since that time they had to built back the tour area, which means a viewing stage/deck, quite a ways away from the Fern Grotto itself. You can no longer go to the mouth of the cave, and pictures did not turn out well.
