The first ride of 2009 was on January 2 at Gunstock Ranch on Oahu. We drove from Waikiki via H1 → R63 → R83 heading north, passed the Polynesian Cultural Center, and just a few minutes further on the left, we saw the sign for Gunstock Ranch. It takes a little over an hour from Waikiki. On the way, we stopped by Cloverleaf Ranch. Two summers ago, my family of four, including the kids, had our first trekking ride there, which made it a memorable ranch for us. After that, my husband and I started attending lessons at the riding club Crane, where we experience ups and downs in a small arena while practicing canter.

Oahu has a couple of beginner-friendly trekking options, but Gunstock Ranch offers an advanced trail ride, which we eagerly signed up for. Due to poor conditions from the rain the day before, we were suggested to switch to a safer scenic ride. However, after discussing our riding experience with our young and cute guide Stephanie, who had a wonderful smile, we were allowed to canter in a safe area. TAKA had just ridden 15 kilometers along the coastline at Frontier Riding Club in Hokkaido last fall. However, for MAMI, who was on her first outdoor ride, it started with a trot, but by the second and third times, she was able to do a more dynamic canter, which was a thrilling experience compared to the small arena.

The group that rode before us consisted of a mix of three and two people, and it seemed they were trekking at a beginner's pace. They likely make efforts to accommodate as many requests as possible for the riding tour based on group composition and negotiations. I am especially grateful to Stephanie, our guide this time!

I was opposed by my family and looked at strangely by my colleagues, wondering, "Am I weird?" but I followed my heart that said, "I want to fly!" and went for it. In the end, I am filled with the feeling that it was great to fly. For me, the joy and satisfaction come even stronger after returning home than right after the jump. During free fall, the strong wind and noise make it hard to enjoy the scenery, but once the parachute opens, I was able to leisurely enjoy the beautiful sea and mountains of Hawaii. Watching others descend while waiting below is also impressive. It was quite cold between the plane and free fall, especially in winter! (Someone who participated with me said, "You seem calm. I didn't feel anything because I was so nervous.") If you're sensitive to the cold, I recommend wearing a long-sleeved, slightly thicker shirt. Also, the impact upon landing is stronger than expected, so those with knee issues should be careful. Some people enjoyed landing on their bottoms, but their pants ended up quite wet and dirty. I participated on the last day of my stay in Hawaii, during a winter when the weather can change quickly, but fortunately, the rain that fell in the morning stopped, and it turned into a beautiful day (actually, that afternoon, there was a storm-like rain, and everything was canceled). I didn't feel scared, and thanks to that, it became an invaluable memory as I approach my 40s. I sincerely thank the divers and staff who provided a safe and enjoyable skydiving experience! On Christmas Day, the only place where horseback riding was available was Gunstock Ranch. Although the prices were elevated for the holiday, considering the Christian culture, it was quite appreciated.

There was no shuttle service from the hotel, so we rented a car with a navigation system and challenged ourselves to drive on the right side for the first time. The navigation guided us to our destination without any issues when we entered the address, and by being mindful of the central lane always being on the left, we found that driving wasn't too different from Japan. (I felt it was convenient to have the postal code handy since the navigation I used didn't have a search function by phone number, etc.)

Now, regarding the horseback riding, besides our family of four, there were also four family members from California and two couples participating.

The owner of Gunstock Ranch led the way, with his wife at the midpoint and his daughter (around elementary school age) bringing up the rear as we set off.

It was the first time for my husband, daughter, and son to ride horses, but there were no issues at all. The very smart horses followed commands for right, left, and gallop, taking us along nicely.

While it's common to see guides leading horses in enclosed areas, riding through the great outdoors while enjoying the scenery was truly delightful.

All instructions were in English, but they were easy to understand. We had a lot of fun participating.

ホテルとの送迎はありませんので、ナビ付きレンタカーを借り、初めての右側車線にもチャレンジ。
ナビは、住所の入力で目的地まで問題なく案内してくれましたし、常に左側に中央車線があることを意識して運転をすると、以外と日本と変わらずに運転ができます。
（ナビの利用には、郵便番号を控えておくと便利だと感じました。私が利用したナビは、電話番号などでの検索機能がなかったので･･･）

さて、肝心の乗馬ですが、私たち４人家族以外にも、４名のカリフォルニアから来た家族と、２名のカップルが参加していました。

ガンストック牧場のご主人が先導し、中間地点に奥さん、そして一番後ろには、娘さん（小学校中学年ぐらい）が付いて出発です。

主人、娘、息子は馬に乗るのは初めてでしたが、何の問題もなく、とても賢い馬は、右・左・ギャロップなどの指示に従ってちゃんと私たちを乗せてくれました。

柵の中で、管理者が引き馬をしてくれるケースはよく見ますが、大自然の中、景色を楽しみながらのお散歩乗馬、とても気持ちが良かったです。

説明は全て英語ですが、十分に聞き取りは可能です。
楽しく参加することができました。

I tried skydiving for the first time! I’m not great with heights, but it was more fun than I expected, and the rainbow I saw from 4,000 meters up was absolutely beautiful.

The weather was unstable, so we had some delays in jumping that day, but ultimately, I was able to enjoy the amazing views in clear skies. Depending on the instructor, some can be quite enthusiastic, and after opening the parachute, they might spin around a bit too much, which can make you feel a little queasy. Fortunately, my instructor was just right, and I felt perfectly fine.

I wanted photos and videos, but they were too expensive, so I gave up on that. On the way back, since we had some time left, we also did a little sightseeing. I can’t forget the taste of the shrimp I had during that time! Thank you, driver Komiya!

It was a trip with three friends for four days (actually three days). One of the memories from that trip was booking a skydiving experience at Pacific Skydiving Center two days before the trip after a big decision. I was full of anxiety, but the day itself was incredibly fulfilling and satisfying!!

Mr. KOMIYA, who provided our transportation, was the best staff member we encountered during our trip and someone we will never forget. He felt like a father figure in Hawaii. Surrounded by staff who were unique and helped ease our tension during the skydiving experience, it was definitely a tour we will come back to next time we visit Hawaii.

At first, I thought they would be riding small ponies, but in reality, they rode regular horses. The three of them had some experience with ponies, but this was their first time on regular horses.

Two staff members from the ranch accompanied us with three horses, holding the reins as we enjoyed horseback riding for over 30 minutes across the vast ranch.

サークルの中をグルグル回るだけでなく、けっこう岡の上まで上って他の馬の放牧場を見たり生まれたばかりの子馬を見たりと楽しい時間でした。

子供たちもまた乗馬をしたいと、大変楽しかったようです。

普通の乗馬ツアーは７歳以上とのことでしたので、また数年後にツアーに参加したいと思います。

I participated in the advanced course at Gunstock Ranch with my sister. If you're coming from Waikiki, I think it's easy to aim for the Polynesian Cultural Center as a landmark.

We were asked how much experience we had riding horses, and after doing some trotting in the circle, we set off. After walking along the mountain path, we suddenly broke into a canter through the woods. When the lead horse, Sara, started running, my horse quickly followed suit, and my sister's horse behind me joined in as well.

We ran quite a bit. It was my first time cantering in Western style, and I was a bit worried, but it turned out to be quite easy even with the long stirrups. It felt really good.

While observing the condition of the trail, we then trotted up and down the hills. At the top, Sara picked some guava fruit for us and took some pictures. The descent offered beautiful scenery, so we leisurely walked.

The weather was great, and it was a very fulfilling hour. If I have the chance, I would love to visit Gunstock Ranch again.

　結構走りました。ウエスタンの駈歩は初めてで、少し心配しましたが、長い鐙でも走りやすいものなんですね。すごく気持ちよかったです。
　道の状態を見ながら、後は速歩で坂道を上ったり下ったり。
　頂上では、サラがグアバの実を取ってくれて、写真も撮ってくれました。
　下りは景色がいいので、のんびり常歩です。
　お天気も良く、とても充実した1時間でした。また機会があれば、もう一度ガンストック牧場を訪れたいです。

We've never been on a glider ride before, and we are so glad that we did. It's crazy to fly without an engine and a propeller! We were a little scared first, but once we were up in the air, we enjoyed the breathtaking views of Mokuleia, Yokohama Bay, North Shore Coastline, etc... It's the best way to enjoy the scenary in the north shore from the sky. Highly recommended!!!

During a family trip, I participated alone on April 2nd. My family (husband, mother-in-law, and son) joined a private tour on-site and explored from start to finish. After finishing diving around 10 AM, I was able to join my family for a private tour around Oahu.

It was my first time, and when I initially signed the waiver, I thought, "Should I back out...?" But I'm glad I took the plunge. As the plane ascended, we broke through the clouds, and I felt like saying, "Are we still going up?" However, from the dive point, there was no hesitation as we jumped one after another. Thanks to our instructor, Mike, I was able to enjoy the thrill of skydiving while feeling secure. Once the parachute opened, we descended slowly and leisurely. 着地後は、マイクさんとハイタッチ！とても貴重で素晴らしい体験ができました。次回ハワイへ行ったら必ず参加します。

We are a family that always goes horseback riding in Hawaii. So far, we have ridden in one place on Kauai, three places on Oahu, one place on Molokai, one place on Maui, and one place on the Big Island. This year, we were planning to go horseback riding on Lanai, but we learned that Gunstock Ranch started offering rides last year. Considering the time saved by not having to travel to another island, we quickly booked an afternoon ride online.

After passing through Kahuku from the North Shore, we spotted the sign on the right after about five minutes! We turned right and climbed a bit up the mountain, arriving at a ranch that was completely untouched by tourism. Immediately, friendly dogs and sheep came to greet us. We made our way past the horses that were grazing in the back and found the guides, all of whom were women. After chatting, we learned that they were Mrs. Smith, the ranch owner, her daughter, and a part-time worker from Colorado who came to study at a university in Hawaii.

Although they didn't speak any Japanese, it felt like visiting a neighbor's house for check-in, creating a very homey atmosphere. As we started riding, it felt as if we had chartered the entire experience just for our family. We passed through the rodeo practice area and the training area for the horses, navigating through trees that made us feel like we were in an orchard. While riding, we picked and ate guava, and after climbing for an hour, we reached a viewpoint overlooking the North Shore, Kahuku, and the northeastern sea. We took commemorative photos and videos with this beautiful scenery as our backdrop, watching the sunset behind the mountains as it illuminated the southern part of Kahuku while chatting with our guide on the way back down to the ranch center in 30 minutes.

I wouldn't recommend this for first-time overseas riders, but for those who are tired of touristy horseback riding and can speak a little English, I think this is the best place on Oahu. We were treated to a beautiful sunset that made us forget we were even on Oahu.

After arriving at the dive point, before I could even say "I'm scared" or "Wait," I was already falling one after another. I was the last one, but after counting to one, two, I found myself screaming "Yay!" while in the air, lol.

It was incredibly scary, but I became excited halfway through. I was screaming, but the force of the air coming in was so strong that I couldn't hear my own voice at all.

I didn't know I could go skydiving in Hawaii, so I forcefully convinced my friend to sign up. Honestly, I had high expectations for the "1-2 minutes of free fall," but when it comes to diving from above the clouds, it feels too high to really experience the fall. You just spin a few times for a moment after jumping (are you swaying?), and then you play around with the strong winds. Once the parachute opens, you start to understand what it feels like to be a bird, and the refreshing sensation takes over.

The good weather probably helped, but the dedicated Cessna was also incredibly stable. Compared to a commercial airplane moving through the air currents, there was virtually no vertical shaking.

Actually, the day before, I heard from a scuba diving instructor about another company where 5-6 people have had incidents each year, so I felt relieved to have chosen this place.

Both before and after the jump, everyone was really relaxed and willing to take photos, which suited me perfectly.

As a keepsake, I bought a T-shirt that the instructor was wearing, but $18 felt a bit pricey... (well, I guess it's like a tip).

Mr. Tim is a bit cheeky, but he's a really great guy!

気軽に写真に応じてくれるし自分には合ってました

記念にインストラクターも着てるＴシャツ買ったんですが、

I did this with my 23 year old daughter and we both felt that this was an outstanding activity! The ride was great - some hills, windy trails, spectacular views, just the right length - 90 minutes. The staff was super - Darleena couldn't have been better - so knowledgeable, friendly and patient! The horses were very calm and perfect for this type of ride. We both agree that this is one of the best things we've done on Oahu. We've already recommended Gunstock Ranch to other family members that are planning to visit Hawaii. (I'll send photos later)

I had wanted to try this for a long time, and it was incredibly exciting. We did various activities this time, but this was number one. I highly recommend it! I wanted to take photos, but it would have been better if it were a bit cheaper. The collared shirt flapped around and was uncomfortable while flying, so be careful.

My mother insisted on signing up for something she absolutely wanted to do! My father and I (both university students) were like, "What?!" This is my third time in Hawaii. Every time I go, my mother challenges herself with various activities! Climbing to the top of Diamond Head, stargazing on the Big Island at night, scuba diving, horseback riding, bodyboarding... and so on (laughs). The highlight was definitely skydiving! It's a must-do! The staff were amazing! I was surprised to see Taguchi from KAT-TUN participating privately! It became a great memory. I will go again and bring photos from that time!

I booked the lunch ride for myself and Daughter in June of 2007. I have to commend the Gunstock Ranch, we had such a wonderful time with our 2 tour guides and saw the beautiful sights of Oahu from the bottom to the top. Were we found seashells on the very top of the mountain and mongoose along the path to get there. The Lunch and the company the tour forward will last us forever until we can get back again to do it all over, I would not hesitate to recommend this extremely enjoyable activity. If you ever need a recommendation please let me know.

This time, my husband and I experienced skydiving for the first time. The moment we jumped out of the plane was so quick that I didn't have time to feel scared; I was dropped on a count of one, two, three, so I didn't feel that much fear. The weather was nice, and the view was really beautiful.

However, while falling, the wind was strong, making it hard to breathe. Additionally, when the instructor asked me, "Do you like roller coasters?" and I answered, "Yes!" I was spun around to the right and left, which made me feel a bit nauseous. There were also others doing aerial spins.

My instructor was Japanese, so after the parachute opened, he explained various things while we enjoyed the scenery, which made it easy to understand. I'm glad I was able to land safely. The video and photos became great keepsakes.

Date of participation: March 19, 2007 (Monday). We participated as a couple. Gunstock Ranch is about an hour and a half by car from Waikiki, located beyond the Polynesian Cultural Center. The area is lush and green, quite different from the rocky terrain of the Big Island, making it suitable for horseback riding. We gathered at 8:30 in the morning. It was just the two of us participating. After the rain, the greenery and rainbow were beautiful. We signed some documents, learned the basics of horseback riding, and mounted our horses. We proceeded with three horses into the greenery. Along the way, the female guide asked, "RUN?" and when I answered "YES," we started to gallop. The horse I rode was well-trained and very responsive. Since it was a horse that wanted to run, I hardly had to kick it at all. We mostly galloped except for the climbs and descents to the hill and some slippery red dirt areas. The trees on both sides formed an arch, and we moved through it at a comfortable speed. The guide picked guava fruit for us, which was sour and delicious. When we reached the top of the hill, we had a 360-degree view. We could see the ocean as well. The wind felt nice, and the view was amazing. The hour flew by. It was a lot of fun.

ガンストック牧場はワイキキから車で約１時間半、ポリネシアカルチュアルセンターの先にあります。緑が一面に広がっていて、ハワイ島のゴツゴツした地面とは違い、乗馬に適していました。朝、８時半に集合。参加は私たち夫婦２人のみ。雨上がりで緑と虹がとてもきれいです。書類にサインをし、乗馬の基本を教えてもらい騎乗。緑の中へ３頭で進んでいきます。途中、女性のガイドさんから「ＲＵＮ？」と言われたので「ＹＥＳ」と答えると駆け足開始。乗った馬は良く調教されていてとてもよく言うことを聞きます。走りたがりの馬だったのでほとんど蹴らずにすみました。丘までの上り下りや、赤土むき出しで滑りやすい場所以外はほとんど駆け足です。両側の木がアーチになっていて、その下を心地よいスピードで進みます。ガイドさんがグァバの実を採ってくれます。すっぱくておいしい。丘のてっぺんに上ると、そこからは３６０度の視界が開けます。海も見えます。風も気持ちよく最高の眺めです。あっという間の１時間でした。とても楽しかったです。
