Two tailfins and numerous whale blowouts
Reviewed by: Gunnar Durén, 2015/12/13Given the early season we had low expectations on whale spotting, but we were at least looking forward to a great boat ride on the ocean. And we sure got that.
After about 20 minutes we spotted the first whale air blowout and there were many more. Finally two North Pacific Hump Back whales surfaced and dove down again, showing their tailfins. Great experience, great weather, great boat trip.

びっくりポンでした

小雨降る中、波も高く、うーんだめかなって思ってたら、クジラ君現れました。
ほんのチョットでしたが、運が良かったです。
その他にびっくりしたのが、スタッフも参加者も全部外人。日本人は私と家内の2人のみ、スタッフの外人さんが出航前に色々喋ってるけど、ちんぷんかんぷん。全く分かんない。
あと、お客の中に生後6週間の赤ちゃんと4歳の子供を連れた夫婦もいましたが、彼ら2人とも出航と同時にシャンパン飲みっぱなし。日本じゃありえないね。
びっくりポンだらけでした

Great Time
Reviewed by: HulaHoney, 2015/09/07My mom and I are seasoned travelers to Hawaii. We enjoy whale watching but this was our first time on this Waikiki Whale Watch Sail.
Our driver picked us up on time and was courteous and professional.
We sailed on the Honi Olani. It is a 45 passenger boat but for our tour there were only a dozen or so guests. We were given safety instructions and then we headed out to search for whales!
Captain Chad seemed very experienced and knowledgeable about the humpback whales and their patterns. He knew how long they would be down and which direction they were headed.
We spotted 2 whales and stayed with them most of the tour. The whales dive down and then come back up every so often for air. We saw the other large whale watching boats but we were closer than them and able to turn quicker and get to the whales when they popped back up.
We also saw green sea turtles, spinner dolphins and flying fish.
The boat has bathrooms on board and snacks were provided. There was fresh orange and apple, chex mix and granola bars. There is a covered area in case of inclement weather. The drinks were free for sodas and $1 or $2 for alcohol.
The crew was great. Chad, Jacob and Chad were more than happy to talk to you about the beautiful Hawaiian Islands and all they have to offer.
Our tour lasted a few minutes longer than expected because we came upon the pod of spinner dolphins. Nobody on board had conflicting plans so we were able to prolong the tour a bit.
Upon arrival to Waikiki our drive was able to drop us at a different location to do some shopping! It wasn't far from our hotel yet it saved our tired feet and legs.
I do recommend this tour to others. It would be great for any age. There were senior and young children alike on our sail. The little ones enjoyed the nets in the front of the boat. And the seniors were able to sit in the covered area to rest. I'll definitely be going out on the boat again on my next visit to Waikiki.

Great time
Reviewed by: Steve, 2015/04/20I recommend the whale watching with Hawaii Nautical. The crew was fabulous and very friendly. We got lucky because our family was the only one on board that day. We saw some green sea turtles and some spinner dolphins but the whales were very elusive that day. The captain tried his best and even gave us some extra time to try and catch sight of some whales. He felt very bad that we did not get to see some whales up close. We were not disappointed, we just enjoyed the cruise. But he gave us some coupons for another free trip with them anyways. Next time we are in Hawaii, we will go with them again for sure!

Waiiki Whale Watch Cruise
Reviewed by: Sharon & Jim, 2015/04/10Dave and the crew of the Honi Olani catamaran were very friendly and welcoming to their tour guests. We enjoyed our late morning cruise on a bright, sunny day which featured panoramic views of Honolulu, Waikiki and Diamond Head.
Unfortunately, following a through search with all eyes focused on the horizon, we did not see any whales during our late in the season (end of March) cruise. We did see several sea turtles which thrilled the children on board.
At the end of the cruise we received vouchers for another Hawaii Nautical tour which we plan to use on our next visit to Hawaii.
Although we didn't see any whales we would recommend this tour - how often do you have the opportunity to take a catamaran cruise in Hawaii!

Everything Hoped For -The Perfect Experience
Reviewed by: Susan, 2015/04/05This was exactly what my husband and I had hoped for in a whale watching experience. By being on a sailing craft we were able to enjoy a sail as well as watching for those amazing humpback whales. The crew was fantastic and very informative. Our driver Shannon picked us up at our hotel and was delightful. Chad the captain of the catamaran was most interesting and had a lot to share about the island and the activities.
After hearing that Hawaii was the place to see the humpbacks during the winter months this was a "must do activity", we were not disappointed.
Great Experience - We would do it again.

The crew was very knowledgeable and always made sure your drink was full (did I mention that beer and wine drinks were only $1?? Can't beat that!) We felt that we were on a private, luxury tour the way that we were treated! Not to mention that we got up close and personal with an entire family of humpback whales!!! We followed them for awhile, watching them play and jump. It was the best tour we did in Hawaii and will definitely be doing it again next time we visit Hawaii!

Nice Cruise
Reviewed by: zenm, 2015/03/31My family and I went to a afternoon 2 hours whale watching. We couldn't see whales this time but we all enjoyed on catamaran cruise.
I love this catamaran, we sat on front of boat most of the time. We saw great views of the ocean, harbor, beach, diamond head,
coco head, and building of waikiki city. We also saw beautiful rainbow.
The captain and crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. They provided us free snack and soft drinks, you can get beer if you pay $1 that is good deal.
The captain gave us a free ride ticket because we did not see whales. So, we definitely come back to tour again when we come back to Hawaii!!
I also satisfied customer service of Hawaii activities when I book this tour. They also called me for remind the tour the day before,which is help us.
I definitely recommend this whale watching tour book by Hawaii activities.

Best whale watch in Honolulu

I've been on both Navatek and Star of the Sea whale watches and they do not compare to the experience you get with this whale watch. The catamaran is very clean and the crew was great! They were not only observant to everyone's safety on board they were hilarious! My family (including a two year old toddler) had an amazing time. I was very fortunate to have found this activity through Veltra. I was hosting a friend who had never been on a whale watch and it was an amazing experience. We chose the late morning tour and it was perfect. The boat went out and the crew was able to find whales within 30 minutes from take off. There were an estimated 5 male humpback whales swimming together and we circled them while they dove. They were so magnificent and during the time we were watching them the crew members told us much about their behaviors. they told us why it wasn't unusual that a group of males would be traveling together and they also told us what would've been different if we had spotted a mama and her calf. Although none breached out of the water we saw them come to the surface many times. It was so amazing to see so many of them at once! At one point we saw all five come to the surface and blow water from their backs at the same time. Talk about a magical vacation moment!
I'd book this again in a heartbeat!!

Great Activity, a couple whales and some dauphins.
Reviewed by: Gilles, 2015/03/28we just went to this activity last Wednesday 8.30 am and it was great! We arrived a bit early and just took a walk around the park. very nice area. They have easy parking next to the Marina where you can park for $1.00/ hour. The crew on the cruise was very nice and made us feel welcome right away. We were only 6 on the cruise witch made it very intimate. I think that is one of the great advantages of the morning cruise, We took a drink and sat on the front nats until we saw turtle and dauphins and finally on the way back a couple whales. The whales were the least impressive as you stand far away and they don t really jump out of the water as you see on TV. It was one mother and one maybe and they basically just came up to the surface to breath every so often. Everything considering, this was a great way to spend morning. Maybe a bit overpriced but the crew and amenities were great.
Compare to the huge ships, I would choose this one every time just so you actually feel like you are on a boat .
Snacks could use improvement and the way back to marina was a bit rushed

Wonderful crew, Dolphins and sea life up close
Reviewed by: Tina, 2015/03/25The catamaran was the perfect vessel to get up close to Dolphins, turtles and other sea life. From the minute we got on board the entire crew had welcomed us and made us feel comfortable. The captain explained what we would see and the rules of the vessel and was ready and willing to answer any questions or address any issues. I was impressed that they offered sunscreen to use and oil for motion sickness. It was thoughtful of them and they really cared about their passengers having a good trip. They had refreshments and juices for free. They offered beer for ($1) and mixed drinks for ($2). The drinks were strong, too. : ) We saw several pods of Dolphins, turtles and a whale. It was an awesome experience. I would take my children next time we go to Hawaii. Thank you to all the crew. You were the best!

Great family trip!

Once we were on the boat, everything was what was expected. The crew was very nice and helpful. We found a pod of whales right away and then went and snorkeled at a reef because we had time. Drinks were great along the way.

Excellent day watching whales
Reviewed by: Roy and Trish Brooks, 2015/02/25Roy and I really enjoyed ourself, the guys were all great, we have been on a few different whale watch tours thru out the years, and by all means this was the best, we got to experience at least 40 sightings of whales, was simple wonderful. Will tell all our friends that visit Oahu, while we were on the boat we first saw several turtles, had to laugh cuz the guys said to look for trash cans lids, that was the green sea turtles and we saw about five of them, also the snacks they served were great I ate a lot of the fresh fruit and had a beer that they had available on tap. We will be sure to pass the word on of the great time we had and have passed out a few of the extra business cards we had. Great time.

Not a good experience
Reviewed by: Lina, 2015/02/25This was not a good experience for me because one of the crew members was rude at the beginning so it kind of ruined my trip. There was no lunch, they had some chips, an assortment of drinks and granola bars. We did not see too much whales but I guess it's not up to the crew, it is whenever whales want to get out of the water which in our case there wasn't that much to see. The boat was nice and I like the nets in the front, it was kind of fun to sit and watch the ocean from there. Drinks were good too. Captain was very good at maneuvering the boat. The boat was clean and acceptable. I think they could work on better manners for the crew and it won't be too bad.

Wow... I saw Whales
Reviewed by: Bonnie Michael, 2015/02/22On February 6, we went on the late morning whale watching tour. The winds had been 20 - 30 MPH earlier that week and the water had not settled down. In spite of this, Captain Josh and the crew gave us a great time. We were close enough to the humpback whales that I could catch their bodies with my camera. Plus it was fun seeing the whales blow water into the air.
I was impressed by the captain knowing both fluent English and Japanese and being very safety conscience.
The Crew was great. They pointed out whales, got us drinks and gave us great info on the whales. I also appreciated the shuttle picking us up and dropping us off.
All in all, it was a great trip. If I go Back to Hawaii, I will probably book another trip on this boat. I would highly recommend this captain and crew to anyone who wants a great day on the water.

Incredible experience!
Reviewed by: Stephen and Kelli, 2015/02/19Wow!! We did the afternoon whale watch on February 12, 2015. First, we are so happy we booked this tour instead of one of the large cruise-like ships. Everything was fantastic and exceeded our expectations from the very start. Our crew (Jacob, Julia, David and Dave) were phenomenal! Each was outgoing, friendly and very knowledgeable. They made sure each person was attended to and were in constant contact with each other as well as the passengers. We were so fortunate to have perfect weather/sea conditions and only 7 passengers, including ourselves, for the cruise. Because of its size, the catamaran easily maneuvered to change course when we spotted whales, which was often! Not only did our crew point out sightings, but also explained why whales did certain things, their habits and shared past whale experiences. We even got to see a sea turtle when we were heading back to the marina. We were so happy we booked with this company. The cruise was intimate and fun and the drinks were great, too! If you want a top-notch, personal experience, book here!! Even if we hadn't been so lucky to see so many whales, the sailing experience with these great people would have been well worth it!

Great Experience!

The boat was on the smaller side, which was good...we could maneuver and move towards sighted whales more quickly and easier than the large vessels could. there were about 12 total guest on the boat with 4 total crew members, so the tour was very intimate. We enjoyed the friendliness and knowledge of the staff. Light snacks and refreshments were provided, and alcohol was available for $1 or $2 for those who wanted it. There was plenty of room in the covered area of the boat as well as the front deck. We spent the majority out on the deck, as the views from there were remarkable. One woman got seasick and the crew did what they could to help her out. I'd recommend Dramamine beforehand just in case! Regarding the actual whale sightings, we probably saw about 6 whales in the time that we were out there. Most of the time we would see the large fin protruding from the water a few times, and then we'd see the tale come up before the whale made a deep dive into the water. We saw one turtle as well. No spinner dolphins when we were out but I believe that those are a common sighting as well. The whales we saw were anywhere from 50-100 yards away, so we felt like we were pretty close, without being on top of them (they are huge!). Overall, we had a fantastic time. Just being out on the boat was worth the price, and the multiple sightings made it a great trip. Staff does not ask for tips, but we thought it was appropriate to leave one since they were so accommodating. I would certainly recommend to a friend!

Such an awesome experience in my life
Reviewed by: bigtree, 2015/02/11 Everything was perfect, which was sunny day and the pick-up car to Kewalo Basin arrived on time, actually a little early at the appointment place. It was my first whale watching excursion. I really like to recommend this tour if you are available.
The catamaran that my wife and I got on board, I think, is the perfect size for agile movement for following the humpback whales race and watching them closely and even listening to the mysterious and marvelous whale songs. I think this neat ship is much better than massive cruises to watch fast-moving whales.
Staff who are kind and informative also helped us to have a good memory of the whale watching trip. They are very friendly and kind, especially their informative knowledge will help you better understand the humpback whales traits like why they came to Hawaii and what they do and so forth.
More importantly, I think, the staff really know well about the best spot where we can watch whales. Thanks to the wonderful staff, we really enjoyed and got a lucky chance to watch dozens of whales and their competition race as well as the show of spouting water. Moreover, we could watch tremendous whale breach at the end of our trip, which was carried over the mom whale accompanying its baby. It was really an unbelievable and unforgettable moment in our life. It’s worth your every penny.

I love my job
Reviewed by: Chris, 2015/02/09We were picked up by a friendly gentleman who treated my older travelers very respectfully. When we got to the harbor the captain was very thorough yet fun with the way he spoke to us. We knew exactly what to expect and what to do.
When we got going, the crew was very friendly and spent a lot of time talking to us about whales and whatever else we wanted to ask about. They were very upbeat and wiling to get us drinks at any time. The boat was clean and the music was good.
I've been on many whale watching cruises and I would recommend this outfit to anyone. From the captain, who speaks fluent Japanese, all the way down the crew these people have passion for what they do and it shows.

Reviewed by: Arysa, 2015/02/09We started our activity by getting picked up at our hotel by a friendly shuttle driver. We were with my mother-in-law and her sister. The driver suggested they used hotel restroom before we left, which was very nice, considering they were elderly and the restroom on the boat can be a little tricky to say the least.
When we got to the shipyard we were greeted by the captain and the crew. They were very thorough and professional.
We set off to find whales and the crew was very accommodating and interacted with everyone. They always asked if we needed anything.
We didn't have much luck spotting whales this day. We spotted a few in the distance and finally a mom and baby after looking an extra 30 minutes past our scheduled time.
Not really their fault, but a little disappointing.
I would recommend these folks. They are a good crew.

Whale watching cruise!

We arrived at the harbor and the stuffs were very friendly and happy to assist us. The check in (as well as the reservation though the Veltra) was smooth and easy.
They offered us free non alcoholic beverages and snacks(fruits, chips and etc) at the bar on the cruise.
Once we left the harbor, the stuffs toughly us about the whales we were about to see. They were super friendly, and we learned a lot about the whales from them from this cruise which was awesome.
It was less than a 2 hr cruise with lots of focusing trying to find whales!! We saw at least 10 whales actions like a humpback breaching and tail-slapping!!
We all enjoyed it!

Fairly expensive dinner with a far away sighting of whale... Timing is the "Key"
Reviewed by: Whatnao, 2015/01/31It was ok at best. There were three crue members in this activity and beverage(Approx. five kinds of Juice) and Snacks(Chips, Cookies, Apples, and Oranges) were provided. All crue members are friendly and helpful. Clean Deck and Interior.
You hope for the whale shooting out of the water with the earth shaking splash....keep hoping. Animals are unpredictable. We did see them blow air up it, but it was very far away and nothing like the pictures! I think it is all about the "right" timing to see something like "the" picture scene. Not worth the money in my opinion. Although all crues are friendly and helpful, obviously there is nothing they can do about the whales.

Waikiki Whale Watch Sailing Cruise
Reviewed by: Nancy Brown, 2015/01/24If I could give this cruise more than five starts I would!! This Whale watching cruise was the highlight of my visit to Oahu! The crew Josh, Julia and Jacob were outstanding! The perfect hosts! We witnessed several whale sightings and the crew was very informative about the whales, answering every and all of the guests questions. The catamaran we sailed on was very well kept and we felt safe on our ride out into the Ocean, we traveled at low speeds making the ride very pleasurable. I recommend this tour above any whale watching tour in Oahu, you will not be disappointed! Thank you again to Josh, Julia and Jacob you all were amazing!!!

Great cruise

When my husbund and I went to this trip I thought we will see one or two whales very far away. But thanks Dave and his wonderful crew we saw so many things! We saw dolphins, turtles, fishes and whales of course. There were several points where we saw them. One of the whales jumped out the water many times and it was amasing.
It was like we saw Discovery channal but we saw this with our own eyes. We took so many beautiful pictures! The crew was very polite and nice to everybody. They came to us and other tourists and told us about whales habits, it was really useful and interesting.

Amazing whale watch!!!

We choose Waikiki Whale Watch Sailing Cruise (from Kewalo Basin)-and for 100% it wasn't a mistake. Our capital was Dave-really cool cap!)) First of all he told that we'll try to see whales, turtles, dolphins- and he realized all programm! I red a lot about such trips, so we were ready that we wouldn't see whales too close- so my advise- the better optics u have-the better photos ull have. If u have go-pro take it for sure, cause u can make reAlly cool video under the water with dolphins, which were really close to boat). So really want to advise this trip-u ll never regret about it-we never saw whales and it was really great emotions. One more thing-don't take trip on a big boat-our was really comfortable, only 17 people-so it was easy to take pictures and run from one side of boat to another, trying to make good photo))

ホエールウォッチングクルーズ ワイキキ指定ホテル送迎付きプランあり＜午前・午後／ドリンク（飲み放題）付き／ケワロ湾発＞

ワイキキのホテルからピックアップ後、約15分でケワロ湾に到着。午前中ということで、風もほとんどなく、酔い止めが少し心配な私たちにも安心して出航できそう。いっしょに乗船した15名のうち、半分が日本人でした。子供連れが多かったです。
出航後、ワイキキのホテル群を海上から見ることができ、ワクワク感がさらに増し、朝焼けの中、逆光のダイヤモンドヘッドにも大満足。すると、目前にトビウオがぴゅーんと。船内は歓声が沸く。乗船後、約15分後”OVER THERE”指さす方向を見ると、いました。くじら君たち。説明によると親子２頭、この時期は、子育てのため温かいハワイにやってきて、その後アラスカやカナダ方面に移動するという。カメラを構えて、潮吹きのシーンを撮ると何度目かにしっぽをパチンとする。しっぽパチンからは、深く潜ってしまい、５分以上何も起こらない。移動してしまうのだ。
次はどこから、待っていると全く予期せぬとこから、潮が・・・こんな光景を３度以上見て１時間半後、くじらに名残惜しさをもちながら寄港。
キャプテンによると１２月から４月がホエールウォッチングのシーズン。今日は何度も見ることができてラッキー。前日は見られなかったとのこと、１２月はまだ早いらしい。運もあるのだなとつくづく感じました。ちなみに午後は、びっくりするくらいのスコール。本当にラッキー、ラッキーの時間を過ごすことができました。
