This was my second time whale watching, and although the number of whales was few, we were still able to see some. Above all, the staff member who generously applied sunscreen was very friendly, constantly asking if I wanted a beer or a refill, which made the experience enjoyable. I actually wanted to go to Maui, but since I didn't have the time or money, I looked for tours on Oahu. I chose this tour on a whim, thinking that a smaller boat might allow for closer views than a larger one. Plus, it was a bit pricey for a morning tour to ensure I could board again if I didn't see anything. The hotel pickup was on time. I was unsure whether to wear flip-flops or shoes, but since I could leave my shoes before boarding, either option worked.

I thought we would go further out, but we only went to a point where we could see the hotels along Waikiki Beach, heading towards Diamond Head. After a while, I spotted the dorsal fin of a baby whale in the distance, and I was thrilled to see it raise its tail and dive! We stopped there and waited for it to resurface, but it never showed itself again.

We went a bit further but still didn't see any more whales, so we turned around to head back. On the way there and back, we saw a pod of dolphins swimming close enough to capture on camera. However, I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see more whales. I wondered if the larger, famous boat we passed had gone further or if the afternoon tour would have been better. I can't say for sure if my choice was the right one.

I want to feel satisfied that I saw at least one whale, but I can't shake the feeling that if we had gone further, we might have seen more. So, that's why I gave this rating. Well, I guess it's just the nature of wildlife (laughs).

ビーサンで行くか靴で行くか迷ったけど靴は乗船前に預かってもらえたからどちらでも。
もっと沖に行くのかと思いきや、ワイキキビーチのホテル群が見えるくらいの所をダイヤモンドヘッド方向に。
しばらくしたらやや遠くに子クジラの背鰭が見えて尾びれを上げて潜る所は見れて大興奮！
そこで停船し再浮上待つもその後姿を見せることはなく。
また少し先に行くも再びクジラを見ることはなく方向転換して帰路へ。
行きと帰りにイルカの群れが至近距離を泳ぐ姿はカメラにも納められるくらいの時間で見れました。
が、もうちょっとクジラを見れてれば、と思ってたので少しがっかり。
すれ違った大型の有名な船はもっと先まで行っていたのであちらのが良かったのか、はたまた午後のが良かったのか、と色々後悔とまではいかないけれど自分の選択が正解かどうかがわからない。
クジラが一回でも見れたから良しとしたいところですがあの一回が無ければもっと先に探しに行って貰えてもっと見れたのでは、などとのもやもやは消えず。なのでこの評価です。
まあ生き物なので仕方ないかな(笑)

I participated on January 28, 2019.
This boat didn't have a Japanese guide, so it was mostly foreigners, but in the end, this tour was great.
The pick-up was handled by a cheerful and friendly lady, and there were no particular issues. The boat was smaller compared to other whale-watching boats, which made it easier to see the whales.
There was a large cruise ship in a similar area, but it was crowded with people and far away, so a smaller boat is definitely more comfortable for viewing. Well, if you really want to see them up close, going to Maui would be the best option...
It might be a bit warmer when it's sunny, but since it was somewhat cloudy, it got cold if you were exposed to the wind for too long. Warm clothing is essential. Foreigners seemed to handle the cold well, even in short sleeves, but ordinary Japanese people would definitely need a thick jacket.

似たような場所に大型客船がいましたが、人は鈴なりになっているし距離は遠いしで、小型の船の方が絶対快適に見れますね。まあ、本当に間近で見ようと思ったらマウイ島に行くのがベストでしょうが…
晴れているともう少し暖かいかもですが、やや雲っていたので長く風に吹かれていると寒いです。防寒着は必須です。外国の方は寒さに強いので半袖でも平気そうでしたが、普通の日本人は厚手の上着がないと無理だと思います。
酔い止めは念のため飲んで行きましたが、無くても大丈夫かな？という程度でした。でもこれは海の状態に寄るので、持っておいたほうがいいと思います。
鯨達は2〜3頭いるようで、時々姿を見せました。割とすぐに見つかったので、拍子抜けする位でした。時期も良かったのかもしれません。1月-2月中旬がベストシーズンだそうです。これから行かれる方の参考になれば嬉しいです。

It was fun since it was my first time on a catamaran. The cabin with a roof, the open deck, and the net stretched over the water below allowed me to change my spot according to my mood, making it comfortable. The staff was friendly and kind. I had a very precious experience being able to see a baby whale up close. My one-and-a-half-year-old daughter was with me, but she fell asleep during the boat's rocking. After she woke up, she was happy walking around the boat. I was satisfied that we also got to see dolphins at the end, but the boat was rocking a lot... I tried on January 2nd in the morning and January 3rd in the afternoon, but I couldn't see anything at all; it was just a cruise. It would have been nice if they could have taken us to spots where we could see dolphins or turtles when we couldn't see whales, but there was nothing at all.

It was tough as a parent to see my 7-year-old's disappointment. I think it would be good to have announcements about the likelihood of sightings and explanations of the spots, but they spoke optimistically, saying that it’s unpredictable, which was very disappointing.

The pickup time slightly exceeded the regulation stating, "If more than 10 minutes have passed since the meeting time, call the office," so I was wondering what to do when a cheerful guy and a colorful van appeared. We arrived at the harbor in about 15 minutes.

After signing a document stating that I understood, "Even if you don't see whales, if the boat sinks or if you flirt and die, we won't provide compensation, and it's at your own risk," I boarded the ship.

The boat was clean and spacious. Additionally, there was a staff member who spoke Japanese well, which eased my concerns about the upcoming experience. They were very friendly. Alcohol and soft drinks were all-you-can-drink, and there were two restrooms available, so no worries there.

However, even though the waves were calm, the boat rocked quite a bit, so for those who get motion sickness, I think it would be a 200% chance of getting sick, and even taking motion sickness medication might not help, so it might be better to give up.

ただ、波は穏やかでも、船はそれなりに揺れるので、乗り物酔いする人は200％酔うので、酔い止めを飲んでも効かないレベルだと思うので、諦めた方がいいかもしれない。

外洋まで行く、往路ではクジラの潮吹きを見つけられなかったので、半ば諦めつつも、ビール片手に、ワイキキの外洋を、上空をかすめる、旅客機を見ながらのクルージングは、それはそれで、バカンス感もあり、コンテンツとしても良いかなと思っていた、往路で、クジラの潮吹きを発見。

甲板が一斉に盛り上がる。その後、運良く、複数のクジラが営業ダイビングや、営業潮吹きをしてくれて、盛り上がる。

Maitai Catamaran Waikiki Private Boat Charter

Best Office Holiday Party Ever!

We chartered a catamaran for our office holiday party, and it was the perfect relaxing, fun, and unusual activity for a wonderful time! The two men who captained the boat and tended the bar did a wonderful job! We enjoyed the beauty of being out on the water with excellent beverage service (great maitais!) and nice waves splashing the kids who sat on the net. We would recommend it highly not just for office parties, but for any group. It's a wonderful icebreaker or memory maker activity! We have a lot of diversity of personalities in our office, but everyone had a great time!

This is my second time going to Oahu but was traveling with friends who have never gone. One was really interested in whale watching so we saw links for the Honi Olani Catamaran Sail and decided to try this one out. We're super glad we did because this was such a great tour!

The staff are extremely friendly and they provide such a great experience. The first time we went, we didn't see any whales but that may have been because of the strong waves and number of boats sailing around which might have scared them away.
Regardless of seeing whales, the cruise was awesome. It was really nice to be able to feel the sun on the catamaran and have a nice beverage while we enjoyed the weather. The tour was nice to give us a free voucher to ride again to see if we can spot whales the second time and we did! We ended up seeing a mother whale teaching her male calf how to breach!

I would definitely cruise again with this crew when I come back to Oahu. Mahalo for the great experience guys
