A wonderful experience. Relaxed atmosphere and pleasant guides. We had already encountered sharks while snorkeling in the Maldives, but they were much smaller. These were fascinating.

Local expert tips

This activity books up quickly, and we highly suggest booking at least 2 weeks in advance, especially during busy seasons like summer and spring break.
Due to the size of the boat, there are no restrooms onboard. Restrooms are available at the harbor to use right before departure.
What to bring: Change of clothes, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and a bottle of water. Small hand-held cameras are not permitted in the water.
Rash guards and wetsuit jackets are highly recommended for jellyfish protection, but not required. One Ocean Diving has extra sunscreen on board, jellyfish spray, and no-itch gel on board for your convenience as well.
Recommended attire: Swimwear, and comfortable and casual outfit that can get wet.
Due to the nature of the boat and ocean conditions, we recommend that all guests take a motion sickness preventative at least one hour before the boat departure time.

How to get there?

If you're driving, head straight to Haleiwa Harbor on Oahu's North Shore which is located at 66-101 Haleiwa Rd, Haleiwa, HI 96712.

Park by the little brown restroom building near the harbor entrance on the back side (west) of the Haleiwa Joe’s restaurant.

Participants are required to sign a liability waiver at the time of check-in.
If you are allergic to jellyfish, you must bring your Epi-pen or other medication with you.
Anyone under 80lbs must bring an additional life vest that fits snuggly.
One Ocean Diving is not able to care for infants or tiny children, please leave them in the care of a loved one on land while you enjoy your time out at sea.
You must be physically fit and able to swim if you want to get into the water.

Q. What will I see during the tour?

A. You will be going to a resting area for a number of pelagic creatures including Reef and Galapagos Sharks. There are rare occasions when Tiger or Hammerhead Sharks come into the area as well. On your way to the snorkeling location, you can often see Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins and during the winter months (December through April), Humpback Whales make appearances as well.

Q. Is this activity safe?

A. Yes! Your captain and guides have been trained for years, and with a 100% safety record, they have done countless snorkeling and SCUBA expeditions in the area. They are very knowledgeable about shark behavior and will make sure your experience is safe and memorable.

Q. Will I need to wear snorkeling equipment?

A. Yes, you will need to keep your mask, snorkel and fins on at all times while in the water. This is for your safety and well being.

Q. What kind of boat will be used?

A. The "Pono Kai" is a 27-ft vessel designed for the waters of Hawaii. Due to its small size, there are no restrooms on-board, but there is ample storage areas for your belongings. During rough seas, the boat will have a tendency to rock, so it is highly recommended that you take a motion sickness preventative.

Q. What if I want to go on the boat ride, but not snorkel?

A. No problem! Just book the "Ride-A-Long" option and you can join your friends and family who are snorkeling.
