FAQ

Q. How long will a drive around Molokai take?
A. The guided tour is about 6 hours which includes regular stops for food and shopping and about 4 hours of driving. Otherwise, getting around Molokai on your own is easy since most destinations are within 35 minutes from any location.
Q. Is there a gas station on Molokai?
A. Molokai is a very small island so gas station operating hours are very limited. You can find several gas stations in Kaunakakai that are open every day until evening and a gas station in Maunaloa Village that is open only a few hours during the day and sometimes closed.
Q. Will we go down to Kalaupapa?
A. No, but the Alii tour will include a stop at a vista overlooking Kalaupapa. You must have permission before going to Kalaupapa which is best accessed by flight, hike or donkey ride down to the peninsula.
Q. Is there a shopping center on Molokai?
A. There isn't an actual shopping center on Moloka'i but there are lovely strip shops located all over the island. You'll find grocery stores, retail stores and local arts and craft specialty stores, along with many cafes and restaurants.
Q. How far in advance should I book ferry tickets?
A. We recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements and are not flexible, please book sooner. Last minute availability is often possible, but limited.
Q. How much is the fuel surcharge?
A. The ferry is subject to Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the fuel surcharge is decided according to PUC monthly calculations. As of September 2015, the fuel surcharge for each way is $25.47 / adult and $12.74 / child. To find out the current fuel surcharge, please call 808-667-6165.
Q. Are there additional fees for the car rental?
A. Yes, taxes and upgrade fees for the rental car are not included in the price of the package. They may include but are not limited to insurance, GPS upgrade, vehicle upgrade, taxes, etc.
Q. Is the activity provider doing their part to help protect the ocean?
A. A portion of all proceeds goes toward the Hawaii Ocean Project's continuing efforts to supply direct funding to accredited researchers whose work revolves around understanding and protecting our oceans and their inhabitants.
Q. What kind of vehicle upgrades are available?
A. Vehicle upgrade availability and prices are subject to change, but a tentative list of upgrade options can be found below.
