Great time

Reviewed by: Shannon, 2015/12/08

We made our reservation by phone and had no problems finding a date and time. Customer service over the phone was great.
When we checked in at the dock, the lady check us in was very nice. They have you check in an hour prior to departure, which is a long time to hang out on the dock. There was no where to hang out or sit while waiting.
The crew on the boat was very nice and the food was decent. Due to the weather we were not able to go to the original destination, but the crew found a couple of spots for us to snorkel. We didn't see any Dolphins or turtles, just a few fish. We saw a whale from a distance, but we didn't hang out long enough in the same spot to see if the whales would resurface.
In all, the boat ride was much longer than expected. Most of the time was spent on the boat going to a snorkeling spot right next to the shoreline.

Cruise summary and assesment

Reviewed by: Lynda DeWard, 2015/10/24

On October 7th we joined the Dolphin watch Snorkel cruise to Lanai. It was quite breezy that day and upon boarding we were informed that because of the weather the cruise to Lanai had to be canceled and alternate snorkel locations would have to be used instead of the live coral reefs originally promised off the coast of Lanai, and further, the activities and relaxing time on Lanai would be out of the question. Although very disappointed we understood the situation and sympathized with the cruise captain. She was very nice and we felt sorry for her. We proceeded to her first chosen snorkel location off the coast of Maui, dropped anchor and began preparation for our first snorkel dip. The underwater scenery was somewhat less than spectacular but the experience was interesting. Not having snorkeled for several years it was an exhilarating experience to paddle in the ocean and explore the ocean floor. Subsequently, we pulled anchor and headed for another snorkel area off the shore of Maui and had our lunch, which was quite good and filling. When we arrived at the second site it was too windy to dive there and we were forced to find another alternative site. Again, interesting but even less spectacular than the first and really too windy to enjoy. Exhausted and chilled we finally headed back to Lahaina harbor for our cruise departure. Final assessment, the crew was very good and experienced, the captain was very good and well informed and handled the situation, much as it was, graciously and all in all we did enjoy ourselves on the cruise, but we didn’t even come close to what we were expecting for our investment.

Beautiful Reef Tour Off Maui!

Reviewed by: Brian Soushek, 2015/10/20

The VELTRA tour I took was the Maui to Lanai Dolphin and Snorkel cruise on October 7th, 2015. The tour was a great opportunity to see the island of Maui from the water and snorkel in beautiful unspoiled coral reefs. The staff on the tour were attentive and hospitable. The food was great and there was plenty of it. We did not get to our destination of Lanai due to poor weather conditions. In my opinion the boat captain made a wise choice in avoiding a possible dangerous trip across the waterway between Maui and Lanai. The captain did offer the option of rescheduling our trip in order to see the island of Lanai, but our group was leaving the next day so this was not something we could do. I would suggest that anyone taking this tour should schedule it at the beginning of their vacation so if there is inclement weather they can change the date and have the full experience. One other concern was that lunch was served between our snorkeling opportunities and on my second snorkel trip I had a full stomach. I don't suggest doing this. If lunch had been served after the second snorkel it would have been easier on me. Overall though, a great time had by my family!

  • A shot of our tour boat!

  • Beautiful West Maui Mountains from the boat!

  • My sister, brother-in-law and nephew eating breakfast!

  • My parents having a good time!

A nice time with the family

Reviewed by: Julie, 2015/10/13

We recently went on the Maui to Lanai Dolphin watch and snorkel trip. Unfortunately not under the control of the crew but the weather was not great and winds were strong enough that we could not make the trip to Lanai. I would have rescheduled as they gave us that as an option but we left the next day so it was not possible. So instead the captain tried to make the best of it by taking us down the west coast of Maui. We stopped at the first snorkel spot and it was good- really far from the reefs so kind of difficult to see much. They gave us about an hour here and then we were supposed to move further south to the next location. When we arrived the weather had picked up so she turned around to head back. They finally settled on a location to let us snorkel again and the seas were rough- better snorkeling though once we got in. However they didn't leave us much time in the water and by the time we got out they said we were to close to the harbor to even have our free drink allowance so 3 people in our party missed out on that :( Bummer since they wouldn't serve it to us prior to snorkeling. Didn't get to see dolphins either (which is why my son wanted to take this trip) but I also know that is not guaranteed. Overall the crew made the best of a bad weather situation. Maybe next time.....

  • My son enjoying the sunshine!

My Snorkeling Adventure

Reviewed by: KennyB, 2015/08/10

My family and I had a great time snorkeling. We spent plenty of time in the water at 2 different locations and seen a verity of fish. In the morning we were served a continental breakfast which consisted of a verity of muffins and fruit and in the afternoon we were served lunch which included hamburger and chicken sandwiches and hotdogs for the kids. The crew was very attentive to all, helping us with our equipment and responding enthusiastically to any and all questions. I would sail with this fine group anytime. My only suggestion would be to serve the morning continental breakfast and afternoon lunch while the boat is not moving. The water was a little choppy which made it very difficult to balance while getting ones meal.

Fun

We didn't know what to expect. My wife was unsure of the water and didn't plain on going in. But we both did and both loved it! So glad the crew was there to help with gear and easing our fears. We went with our Son and his family. They made sure the kids not only knew what they were doing. But also had fun doing it. Ended up not feeling so well on the way back in. But the heat was the hottest it had been since 1979. So with that and the waves combined it didn't help. So nice to have someone to take you out feed you and bring you back. Thank you for the wonderful memories! We will check you out again when we come back.

Great Crew!

Reviewed by: Neufeldts, 2015/08/10

We had an awesome time out! The crew was a very happy, helpful, hard working, knowledgeable, crew! They ran a tight ship and did the job well. The first site was the best lots of colorful things to see and clear water. Second spot not as clear ,still great got to see a shark swim under me, all the way down thankfully! Food was good and did the trick. My daughter fell in love with I believe his name was Tommy. He was very good with her she is 6. The worst part the ride to the dolphins when we didn't find any. Otherwise it was great!

Fun Family Adventure!

Reviewed by: Donna, 2015/06/29

My husband and daughter and I had a lot of fun on our snorkel adventure. We boarded and as the boat left the harbor we were told that breakfast was ready. Breakfast consisted of assorted fresh fruit, several types of muffins, and 3 types of juice, and coffee. Our captain for the day was concerned that the winds were already as strong as they were. She tried to get close to the shore of Lanai but the water was too choppy. She said that we would not be able to enjoy ourselves in water that rough and was very concerned for our safety. She had to turn around and go back to the coast of Maui to look for calmer water. I was glad that she was so safety conscious. I was having a good time just riding on the boat over the open water. Going back across the water was a bit bumpy, but that made it more exciting. We ended up going to a spot just off the coast of Maui were there was some pretty coral. The captain had a crew of 4 others who were all life guards. When the boat was anchored, the crew got busy helping everyone with their face masks & flippers and getting into the water. They had life belts for anyone who wanted to put them on (most people did). They also had swim noodles or boogie boards for us to use. There was one passenger who didn't know how to swim. The crew helped her get in the water and gave her one of the boogie boards to hold onto. They stayed right beside her until she felt comfortable. We spent about an hour at this location, then we got back on the boat and went to a second location where people actually saw some sea turtles in the water!
This trip was definitely fun. The only complaint was the weather could have been better the day we went, but we still got to go to two different locations and had about an hour in the water at each location.
I would definitely recommend that others try this excursion. You will have fun even if you have never been snorkeling before!

Snorkeling cruise to Lanai

Reviewed by: Callie Ayers, 2015/06/22

We loved our trip from Maui to Lanai on this snorkeling cruise. The boat was a great size for the trip between the two islands. It was very clean and nice. The crew were all very helpful and friendly. We felt very confident in their abilities. They were all very knowledgeable about the trip and animal life that we encountered. The food was great, we loved having breakfast provided since we had to get up and be at the harbor so early. We were kind of disappointed to not see any dolphins. We felt like we had been told we would circle back to a specific point where dolphins are usually seen and that didn't happen. We were just taken back to Maui as soon as the second snorkeling stop had been made. Maybe we misunderstood what would happen there. Overall it was a great trip and a super fun way to spend the day.

Fun experience

Reviewed by: Brandon A, 2015/06/22

We had a very nice time on the our snorkeling excursion from Maui to the island of Lanai. The crew was very helpful, especially to our inexperienced snorkelers in our family. The food they prepared was good and there were plenty of drinks offered to keep us hydrated. I thought the crew was very helpful and were open to answering questions we had and also provided some nice insights on all of the islands. The coral reefs they took us to were very vibrant and the visibility was very clear. I was a little disappointed in the lack of variety in the fish we saw and we did not see any dolphin that day. All in all it was a very nice day and a nice change of pace.

Great Maui day trip

Reviewed by: stroey, 2014/11/18

We had a great time on this trip - the crew were friendly and informative, the snorkel locations (2) were varied with clear calm water and the scenery along the way spectacular.

Unfortunately on this trip, no dolphins. However, the added bonus was at least 6 humpback whales, with one curious juvenile circling the boat and the crew provided in-depth information about whale migration and habits which enhanced the viewing experience. Amazing!

Only detraction for me was that I felt more information could have been provided around the snorkel portion (e.g. type of fish, function of coral reefs) and the islands themselves would have really enhanced the experience.
