Reviewed by: Thuvan, 2022/03/05Waipio Valley Wagon Tour is a great way to see and experience the valley. Although the van drive down and up the valley was bumpy, we were glad it wasn't the wagon or hiking on foot because of the long, windy steep hill. We saw the waterfalls from afar (not up close), wild horses, taro fields, streams and river. We were a little disappointed that the tour did not go the black sand beach. Overall the wagon tour is a good way to see the valley below, especially for those who are not experienced in hiking uphill.

Bob is the guy!
Reviewed by: Sherrie , 2020/02/24Trust this experience to someone who knows how to drive and maneuver this very intimidating road down into the valley and back up! Bob is that guy! This narrow, winding, and steep road that serves as the only way in and out is simultaneously occupied by experienced drivers, novice drivers, experienced hikers, novice hikers, and everything in between. Bob was cool as a cucumber every inch of the way. As for the mule and wagon ride, Bob handled the mules with grace and respect and the mules were great hosts. Bob was very informative and knowledgeable about the Valley, its vegetation, its history, and its community’s way of life. We were well pleased and recommend this tour and Bob!

A definite must do
Reviewed by: Cathy W, 2020/01/23If you want a once in a lifetime Hawaiian experience, you have got to plan on this tour...it's hair-raising, heart-stopping & the absolute best day of our vacation...our van driver, Bob, drove us down to the valley in his trusty van, then introduced us to Banjo & Jim who pulled his trusty wagon...we learned alot about the valley, the folks who have lived there & live there now...breath-taking views & fabulous memories...highly highly recommended!

Wonderful experience in Waipio Valley

The waterfall was breathtaking and Bob's knowledge of the valley was captivating. So grateful to have chosen this adventure to share with my 7yr old grandson who was equally enthralled to have the experience.

Wild Ride

Waipio Valley Mule-Drawn Wagon Tour

Great Experience

Waipo Valley

A steep hill ride down in the 4x4 van was an experience in itself. I would recommend this as a way to explore the deeper valley in a n unusual way.

Wagons ho!

Best Tours on the Big Island

It was way more than that. The ride in the van just to get down to the valley is something else. The guide was excellent having lived his whole life in the valley. It is a very educational tour.

Waipio Valley - a joy to see.
Reviewed by: Fred, 2012/02/21Seven or 8 years ago my wife and I enjoyed a wagon ride through the Waipio Valley. Our daughter and her family were on The Big Island with us this year and we thought they would enjoy the same. Well this trip ventured further into the valley, had a very informed driver, and exceeded our previous trip by far. We would recommend it to other families to enjoy a visit to this unique valley in this manner.

The young man/tour guide who was raised in the valley, shared so much knowledge with us; the history, the topography, the flora and the fauna....he was GREAT, and the experience I'm sure would not have been as educational and fun if he were not a part of it.
PLEASE pass on to him just how much we appreciated his commentary......his attention to safety was also noted.

Awesome scenery, great guide!
Reviewed by: Randy and Cyndi, 2009/07/21This very pleasant tour gave us a unique look at some awesome scenery that is hidden away deep in the Waipio Valley. The wagon was surprisingly comfortable, and the mules were photogenic! Even though it rained quite a bit, we didn't get very wet. Our guide was a resident of the valley himself, and his family had lived there for several generations. He was both entertaining and informative. Don't miss this opportunity to see a piece of genuine Hawaii up close!

unique Hawaii experience
Reviewed by: Judy, 2007/12/07Great fun - very different from other Hawaiian activities. However, be aware that they do not go over to the beach. We all thought it was great fun - this is not for the "high end shoppers club" - this is for those that want to experience the "real Hawaii"!

I took my 4-year-old on the ride while the rest of the family did the horseback tour. You see all of the same sights and the guides are very knowledgable. The mules are a bit stubborn. But the real star is the valley - one of the most unique and beautiful places in the world.

Wagon tour

Our girls 4, and 8 had the best time and my dad of 80 and mom of 78 said this was the highlight of the whole vacation. The ride is bumpy at times but the wagon has nice padded seats and the wagon has springs on it to make it a better ride. On our trip our guide was great she told us all about the history of the valley, we sucked the nector out of some of the flowers seen wild horses crossed two small streams and seen how the locals still live off the land today in the valley. On out trip the Island was having a drought and all but one waterfall was flowing but dont let this stop you from taking this trip its still beautiful and fun so make sure you book this trip its worth it, we booked afternoon trip and loved it.
