Discover a side to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park that most people on large group tours never get to see. Embark on a hike around Kilauea, the most active volcano in the world, and experience the surreal twilight world of the Big Island as you trek several miles over black stone and crushed rock. The night culminates with a stop at Volcanoes Winery for a deliciously prepared meal and the chance to sample locally cultivated wines. In a wash of starlight, seek out the nighttime glow of lava from well-known volcanic vents before heading back to Hilo.

Is this hike dangerous?
  • The area around Kilauea Iki Crater is relatively inactive in terms of volcanic activity. Although steam and smoke can sometimes be found emerging from the crater floor, active lava is typically not present in this area. Your guide will be park certified and fully prepared to safely navigate the crater. Monitoring facilities at the park are very advanced, and in the unlikely event that evacuation is required, there will typically be sufficient advance warning, giving your guide enough time ensure that everyone gets to safety.
